Dear Colleague,
Greetings! I would like to invite you to submit a chapter proposal to a new book I am editing, entitled "Privacy Protection Measures and Technologies in Business Organizations: Aspects and Standards", assuming this topic lies within your work area. For details, please see the Call for Chapter Proposals posted at:
http://www.igi-global.com/AuthorsEditors/AuthorEditorResources/CallForBookC…
Here are some excerpts from the Call for Chapter Proposals:
Introduction
The recent rapid growth of the Internet, together with increases in computerization, has been accompanied by soaring deployments of client-related business applications. Since business ultimately depends on the consumption of people, this has led to more and more consumer personal information in the possession of business organizations. This in turn has led to concerns over potential violations of consumer privacy. In response, various governmental jurisdictions have enacted privacy legislation to protect the privacy of consumers. However, legislation alone is not enough. Protective foolproof measures must be in place to guard against potential invasions of privacy. For example, business communication and collaboration include content sharing and email. How can these be safeguarded against the leakage of consumer personal information? As another example, internal business systems comprise workflows that handle and process client personal information. What measures are needed to avoid inadvertently and illegally revealing this information? What standards can be followed to reduce this risk?
Objective of the Book
This book will aim to deliver a coherent collection of chapters that provide significant new insights from five areas of investigation, as follows: 1) the current legal framework concerning the protection of consumer privacy in business organizations, 2) the nature and identification of consumer private information, 3) the measures and standards that can be applied and integrated within business organizations to protect consumer privacy, 4) the integration of business structures and workflows with privacy protection measures, and 5) the impacts of applying and integrating privacy protection measures on business operational and financial performance. Although theoretical and conceptual studies are equally welcome, the likely practical implications of your research should be emphasized in all contributions.
Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before July 15, 2010, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Please email submissions (Word document) to: gmyee(a)sce.carleton.ca. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by August 1, 2010 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected by October 31, 2010. All submitted chapters will be reviewed between authors on a double-blind review basis.
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to receiving your proposal.
Sincerely,
George

Call for paper - IxD&A ( Interaction Design and Architecture(s) ) Journal
(ISSN 1826-9745) - special issue on
"Design Centered and Personalized Learning in Liquid and Ubiquitous
Learning Places (DULP):
Future Visions and Practical Implementations"
==========================================================================
Guest Editors:
Carlo Giovannella, University of Rome Tor Vergata - ScuolaIaD, Italy
Sabine Graf, Athabasca University, Canada
==========================================================================
The special issue is intended to investigate further the practical
implications of DULP vision on the future of TEL and to give the
opportunity to participate in the debate also to those who could not
attend the DULP@ICALT2010 workshop.
According to the objectives of the DULP@ICALT2010 Workshop the special
issue of the IxD&A Journal intends to offer an interdisciplinary arena
where everybody can present and discuss ideas on what could be the future
of TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning) in the next few years, under the
consideration of the DULP concepts. A future that has to be possible and
that, thus, should be closely related to the present researches and
educational processes.
We remind that the DULP vision aims at combining Design inspired learning,
Ubiquitous learning, Liquid learning places (& liquid society), and Person
in place centered design, which shall lead to challenging technologies,
rethinking pedagogies, and being design inspired.
This special issue should be of interest for all those who do not want to
stop at the "simple" development and use of technologies but consider them
as the basics for supporting innovative educational visions aimed at
improving the experience of the training process. For this it is expected
that the special issue would be of interest to all those that look at the
TEL with a strong interdisciplinary attitude, the same one that inspire
the DULP vision: technologists, educators, psychologists and sociologists
and all those that consider the technology an indispensable ally rather
than a service provider.
Looking towards the future is a challenge also for creatives and
especially for designers of virtual and physical environments dedicated to
TEL and, more in general, for people involved in educational processes,
dealing with design for the experience and with its significant qualities.
This special issue is looking for authors that
a) starting from the current state of the art, are able to imagine a
realistic future of TEL that should be applicable in real contexts; b)
will present development and use of technologies able to induce a fruitful
encounter between disciplines, to the benefit of the centrality of the
learning experiences and of the expectations of the individuals.
Open list of themes that may inspire the design for the future:
- Future visions and models for ubiquitous learning in liquid learning
places - New generation of virtual and physical learning place
- Balancing communities and personal identity
- Ecological detection of learning experience qualities
- From media literacy to design literacy

--- Rationale
Thanks to the confluence of urban monitoring applications and portable
cameras carried by humans everywhere, video acquisition, processing, and
storage systems have become an integral part of the fabric of today’s
life.
Besides the classical applications such as security and surveillance,
cameras have been considered for creating novel applications based on
the notions of smart homes, ambient intelligence, human-computer
interaction, social networks, ambient assisted living, smart seminar
rooms, building emergency management, assistive technologies, and many
more.
Cameras are mounted at fixed location in the urban infrastructure, or
are moved around by humans or vehicles. Fusion of data between the
cameras is explored as a means to enhance the interpretation task or to
add confidence to the monitoring results. Such fusion can occur across
different spatio-temporal levels and between subsets of fixed and mobile
cameras as per the needs of the application and the availability of
valuable information from each camera.
This workshop aims to act as a forum for sharing new techniques and
applications based on pervasive video analysis for researchers,
developers and practitioners from academia and industry.
Addressing new challenges related to processing of distributed
observations with a network of cameras and applications based on joint
video analysis between fixed and mobile cameras will be the subjects of
interest. Techniques and applications based on fixed or mobile camera
systems will also be considered.

Information Systems (http://www.elsevier.com/locate/is/), Elsevier
(http://www.elsevier.com), Special Issue on "Advances in Managing, Updating
and Querying Exact and Uncertain Sensor and Stream Databases"
(http://si.deis.unical.it/cuzzocrea/IS2010/).
Chair
-------
Alfredo Cuzzocrea (http://si.deis.unical.it/cuzzocrea/), ICAR-CNR and
University of Calabria, Italy
Aim and Scope
-------------------
The issue of effectively and efficiently managing, updating and querying
sensor and stream databases is gaining increasing attention from the
database research community. Sensor and stream databases arise in a plethora
of emerging application scenarios, ranging from environmental sensor
networks to supply chains, from low-level communication networks to RFID
deployments, from stock quote tools to network monitoring components, from
scientific database applications to statistical analysis environments, and
so forth.
In all the application scenarios above, sensor and stream data is both
uncertain and imprecise. Uncertainty and imprecision in sensor and stream
data derive from the intrinsic processes generating such data, which may
suffer from missing data or faults of sensors/stream-sources, errors
occurring in the transmission layer of sensor/stream networks, probabilistic
nature of signals traversing sensor/stream networks, and so forth.
While traditional challenges of sensor and stream processing
(bounded-memory, single-pass processing, blocking query operators,
multi-rate arrivals, and so forth) affect managing, updating and querying
exact sensor and stream databases, additional challenges arise when dealing
with novel uncertain sensor and stream databases. Hence, innovative models,
algorithms and techniques for managing, updating and querying uncertain
sensor and stream databases must be devised, perhaps embedding probabilistic
or statistical approaches.
With these goals in mind, the proposed IS special issue will cover
theoretical as well as practical aspects of managing, updating and querying
exact and uncertain sensor and stream databases, thus constituting a
milestone in sensor and stream database research, with a rare multi-aspect
research vision spanning from elegant models and formalisms to effective and
comprehensive methodologies and efficient algorithms.
Relevant research areas for the proposed IS special issue include, but are
not limited to, the following ones:
- advanced query algorithms for exact and uncertain sensor and stream
databases;
- complex query predicates on exact and uncertain sensor and stream
databases (e.g., aggregation predicates);
- temporal and multi-version queries on exact and uncertain sensor and
stream databases;
- preference queries on exact and uncertain sensor and stream databases;
- probabilistic queries on exact and uncertain sensor and stream databases;
- pub-sub primitives in networked exact and uncertain sensor and stream
databases;
- cleaning methodologies over exact and uncertain sensor and stream
databases;
- pruning/deletion methodologies over exact and uncertain sensor and stream
databases;
- querying multiple exact and uncertain sensor and stream databases;
- fusion primitives in networked exact and uncertain sensor and stream
databases;
- model-driven acquisition methods for exact and uncertain sensor and stream
databases;
- handling massive-in-size sensor and stream databases;
- compressed representations of exact and uncertain sensor and stream
databases;
- mediator-based architectures for networked exact and uncertain sensor and
stream databases.

Betreff: [AISWorld] Call for papers - JAIS sponsored Theory Development
Workshop
Datum: Wed, 9 Jun 2010 11:22:12 -0400
Von: JAIS <JAIS(a)case.edu>
An: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org
Journal of Association for Information Systems sponsored Theory
Development Workshop Associated with ICIS 2010 in St Louis, USA
Dear Colleague,
Following the eight successful theory development workshops since
December 2002, the Senior Editors of the Journal of Association for
Information Systems (JAIS) are organizing the 9th theory development
workshop immediately preceding the ICIS 2010 The theory development
workshop is tentatively scheduled on SATURDAY 11TH OF DECEMBER BEFORE
THE CONFERENCE. Exact location of the workshop will be announced
later.
The purpose of the workshop is to promote scholarship that focuses on
new theoretical advances in the Information system field. The design
of the workshop follows the Academy of Management Review (AMR) Theory
Development Workshop format that has proved successful in promoting
theory development in that field. Workshop participants will discuss
drafts of their theoretical work with JAIS senior editors, members of
the JAIS Editorial Board, and other workshop participants. The
workshop is structured to provide detailed feedback from other
researchers who are also developing theoretical work for future
journal submission. There is no obligation for the authors to submit
their work once completed to JAIS, although JAIS is a top quality
outlet that does welcome conceptual and theoretical papers in addition
to empirical ones. In fact, six to seven papers accepted for the
workshop have been submitted yearly to the journal for publication
consideration and fast tracking. Typically 2-3 manuscripts submitted
to the workshop have been published or are accepted for publication at
JAIS within the next 14 months.
Prior to the workshop, participants whose papers have been accepted to
the workshop will receive one to three papers to read and review.
Reviews will follow a brief, structured format that allows
participants to critique their own papers and the papers of other
participants. Reviews will focus on constructive comments and
recommendations for ways to improve the papers. During the workshop,
participants will meet in small groups with a JAIS senior editor and
editorial board members. During this discussion, participants will
receive specific feedback on their papers and provide feedback to
others in their group. A JAIS senior editor and editorial board
members will facilitate the small group discussion so that each
participant gets equal time to gather comments from other members of
the group. Please consult the JAIS website for the list of Senior
Editors and the Editorial members ( http://jais.aisnet.org)
Selection for the JAIS Theory Development Workshop is competitive.
This workshop only addresses theory-building, conceptual foundations
and model development issues. All manuscripts must demonstrate new
theory development to be considered. Papers submitted to conferences
or scheduled to be presented at conferences (e.g., ICIS) can be sent
as long as the primary contribution is new theory development.
However, papers under review or revision at a journal are excluded.
The application deadline is September 4, 2009. Papers should be no
more than 35 pages in length (max 8000 words), double-spaced, 12 point
font, with citations in JAIS format
(http://aisel.aisnet.org/jais/format.html). Longer manuscripts are
also considered if the length is well motivated.
To submit a paper to the workshop, upload an electronic copy of your
paper (including 3-4 key words on the abstract page) to Sprouts:
Working Papers on Information Systems. See information here:
http://sprouts.aisnet.org/home.html
Please note: once you register and set a "user" account, login and go
to "manage deposits" to upload your paper as "new item". In the
submission form, make sure that you designate the paper to
"Proceedings of JAIS Theory Development Workshop" and select "Kalle
Lyytinen" as the Reviewer of your submission.
Prior to submission, please read carefully the authors guide here
http://sprouts.aisnet.org/authors-guide.html. Your will receive an
acknowledgement of your submission within 7 days. If not, please
contact the JAIS office in acouple days or so for checkup. No
applications will be accepted after September 4, 2010. Individuals
selected as participants will be notified by October 22, 2010.
If you have technical question, please direct them to
admin(a)sprouts.aisnet.org. Please direct all your non-technical
questions to Kalle Lyytinen, Editor of JAIS, email: kalle(a)case.edu and
copy to jais(a)case.edu.
