Technical papers should: (1) clearly describe innovative and original research, or (2) report a survey on a research topic in the field. * New Ideas and Emergent Results (NIER) papers (6 pages + 1 page references). NIER papers should describe novel and promising ideas and/or techniques that are in an early stage of development. To that end, NIER papers will be reviewed with dedicated review guidelines. * Experience papers (6 pages + 1 page references). An experience paper should describe the experiences gained from applying/evaluating software engineering research results in practice. It is encouraged that the partners from both practice and research join the effort as co-authors and that the paper reflects the perspective of both sides. The papers should emphasize the value of the experience for the community - in particular the lessons learned due to the transfer of research results to practice. * Artifact papers (6 pages + 1 page references). Artifacts describe model problems, exemplars, or useful sets of resources for the broader SEAMS community. This year we solicit artifacts in two modalities: associated with a research paper and standalone. In the research paper modality, the artifact complements a long research paper and does not require a separate paper submission, the authors need to complete the self-assessment and attach their paper to the submission. The standalone modality requires the submission of an artifact paper (6 pages + 1 page references) in addition to a self-assessment form. The authors of accepted artifacts will have an ACM Artifact badge attached to their paper. All artifact papers will be presented at SEAMS. * Demo papers (6 pages + 1 page references). Demo papers should demonstrate the use of self-adaptive software in a proof-of-concept, prototype or real-world application. Unlike artifact papers, these software systems may not be at a stage of development where they can be released to the broader SEAMS community for other researchers and practitioners to use them in their own work, or may not be suitable for release as artifacts. However, demo papers can also be accompanied by an artifact. In this case, the artifact will be evaluated together with the paper and, if accepted, will receive an ACM Artifact badge. * Doctoral project papers (4 pages + 1 page references). A doctoral project paper should describe the dissertation research of a PhD student in the field of self-adaptive and self-managing systems. This paper has to be authored by the student only. A suggestion for structuring the paper is as follows: - The problem to be solved in your thesis (justify why this problem is important and make clear that previous research has not yet solved that problem). - Your research hypothesis (claim). - The expected contributions of your dissertation research. - How you plan to evaluate your results and to present credible evidence Of your results to the community. - A description of the results achieved so far and a planned timeline for completion. Students of accepted papers will present their research during SEAMS and receive personalized and specific feedback on their research plan. Students will also have the opportunity to further engage with the audience during a poster session. Instructions for formatting posters will be provided after the notification. We encourage submissions from PhD students at any stage of their research. * Special session papers on ethical concerns of self-adaptive systems (2 pages including references). SEAMS 2020 will organise a panel session devoted to ethical concerns associated with self-adaptive systems. Interested authors are invited to submit an extended abstract in which they identify, analyse and sketch potential solutions to the ethical challenges surrounding self-adaptive systems. ___ Paper Submission Details and Review Process All submitted papers and artifacts will be reviewed by at least three members of the program committee. Papers must not have been previously published or concurrently submitted elsewhere. Papers must conform to the IEEE Conference Proceedings Formatting Guidelines (title in 24pt font and full text in 10pt type, LaTEX users must use \documentclass[10pt,conference]{IEEEtran} without including the compsoc or compsocconf option), and submitted via EasyChair. Accepted papers will appear in the symposium proceedings that will be published in the ACM and IEEE digital libraries. General Information ------------------- FOSDEM [3], the Free and Open source Software Developers' European Meeting, is a free and non-commercial two-day weekend event organized early each year in Brussels, Belgium. The goal is to provide open source developers and communities a place to meet with other developers and projects, to be informed about the latest developments in the open source world, to attend interesting talks and presentations on various topics by open source project leaders and committers, and to promote the development and the benefits of open source solutions. Ada Programming Language and Technology --------------------------------------- Awareness of safety and security issues in software systems is ever increasing. Multi-core platforms are now abundant. These are some of the reasons that the Ada programming language and technology attracts more and more attention, among others due to Ada's support for programming by contract and for multi-core targets. The latest Ada language definition was updated early 2016. Work on new features is ongoing, such as improved support for fine-grained parallelism, and will result in a new Ada standard scheduled for 2021. Ada-related technology such as SPARK provides a solution for the safety and security aspects stated above. More and more tools are available, many are open source, including for small and recent platforms. Interest in Ada keeps further increasing, also in the open source community, and many exciting projects have been started. Ada Developer Room ------------------ FOSDEM is an ideal fit for an Ada Developer Room. On the one hand, it gives the general open source community an opportunity to see what is happening in the Ada community and how Ada technology can help to produce reliable and efficient open source software. On the other hand, it gives open source Ada projects an opportunity to present themselves, get feedback and ideas, and attract participants to their project and collaboration between projects. At previous FOSDEM events, the Ada-Belgium non-profit organization organized successful Ada Developer Rooms, offering a full day program in 2006 [4], a two-day program in 2009 [5], and full day programs in 2012-2016 [6-10], and in 2018-2019 [12]. An important goal is to present exciting Ada technology and projects also to people outside the traditional Ada community. Our proposal for another dedicated Ada DevRoom was accepted, and now work continues to prepare the detailed program. We most probably will have a total of 8.5 schedulable hours between 10:30 and 19:00 in one of the rooms which accommodate from 59 to 85 participants. More information will be posted on the dedicated web-page on the Ada-Belgium site [13], and final announcements will of course also be sent to various forums, lists and newsgroups. Call for Presentations ---------------------- We would like to schedule technical presentations, tutorials, demos, live performances, project status reports, discussions, etc, in the Ada Developer Room. In 1995, Microsoft's Windows 95 operating system was launched, the DVD format was introduced, Java 1.0 was introduced by Sun Microsystems and do you remember IBM’s legendary laptop ThinkPad? What is surprising is that Amazon officially opened in 1995. For IS academics, educators and practitioners it can be argued that technologies have changed but have organisations and society really changed? It would be a challenge to put a date on the commentary below made by a CIO from the finance sector: “I began to look at how technology was linked to our overall corporate strategy. I tried to assess how new applications impacted the enterprise; my intuition was that we were investing a lot but not getting the desired productivity. As I began to focus on what we were doing, it was clear that, generally, we did not change the processes that were being automated. These papers are assigned a 10-page limit. Short paper: Ongoing works with relevant preliminary results, open to discussion. These papers are assigned a 7-page limit. Poster paper: Initial work with relevant ideas, open to discussion. These papers are assigned to a 4-page limit. Company paper: Companies' papers that show practical experience, R & D, tools, etc., focused on some topics of the conference. These papers are assigned to a 4-page limit. Submitted papers must comply with the format of Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing Series (see Instructions for Authors at Springer Website or download a Word Template or Latex Package) be written in English, must not have been published before, not be under review for any other conference or publication and not include any information leading to the authors’ identification. Therefore, the authors’ names, affiliations and bibliographic references should not be included in the version for evaluation by the Program Committee. This information should only be included in the camera-ready version, saved in Word or Latex format and also in PDF format. These files must be accompanied by the Consent to Publish form filled out, in a ZIP file, and uploaded at the conference management system. All papers will be subjected to a “double-blind review” by at least two members of the Program Committee. Based on Program Committee evaluation, a paper can be rejected or accepted by the Conference Chairs. In the later case, it can be accepted as the type originally submitted or as another type. Thus, full papers can be accepted as short papers or poster papers only. Similarly, short papers can be accepted as poster papers only. Poster papers and Company papers are not published in the Conference Proceedings, being only presented and discussed. The authors of accepted poster papers should build and print a poster to be exhibited during the Conference. This poster must follow an A1 or A2 vertical format. The Conference includes Work Sessions where these posters are presented and orally discussed, with a 7 minute limit per poster. The authors of accepted Full papers will have 15 minutes to present their work in a Conference Work Session; approximately 5 minutes of discussion will follow each presentation. The authors of accepted Short papers and Company papers will have 11 minutes to present their work in a Conference Work Session; approximately 4 minutes of discussion will follow each presentation. PUBLICATIONS and INDEXING To ensure that a full paper or short paper is published, poster paper or company paper is published, at least one of the authors must be fully registered by the 8th of January 2020, and the paper must comply with the suggested layout and page-limit. Additionally, all recommended changes must be addressed by the authors before they submit the camera-ready version. No more than one paper per registration will be published. An extra fee must be paid for publication of additional papers, with a maximum of one additional paper per registration. One registration permits only the participation of one author in the conference. Poster and company papers will not be published, just presented in the conference.
