The nature and scope of the Information Security field have evolved over
the past several years. No longer are we just concerned with protecting the
technical edifice. Our emphasis has become more holistic and we tend to
consider all aspects of information protection as central to the field of
security. The Annual Security Conference provides a forum for discourses
in Security, Assurance, and Privacy that will define the moment and provide
a useful basis for nurturing further dialogues.
Contributions in the form of research papers, panel proposals, and case

Motivation for enterprise engineering
Modern enterprises face a strong pressure to increase agility and
competitiveness, to operate on the global market, and to engage in
manifold alliances. However, many strategic initiatives in enterprises
fail, meaning that enterprises are unable to gain success from their
strategy. One of the identified reasons for such failures is the lack of
coherence and consistency among the various components of an enterprise.
At the same time, the need to operate as a unified and integrated whole
is becoming increasingly important. Currently, these challenges are
dominantly addressed from a functional or managerial perspective, as
advocated by the management and organisational sciences, and as
implemented by traditional programs in business schools. Such knowledge
is indeed necessary for managing an enterprise, but it is insufficient
for bringing about changes in a fully systematic and integrated way. To
do that, one needs to take a constructional or engineering perspective.
In addition, both organisations and software applications are complex
systems, prone to entropy. This means that in the course of time, the
costs of bringing about similar changes increase in a way that is known
as combinatorial explosion. Entropy can be reduced and managed
effectively through modular design based on atomic elements.
Lastly, the individual persons in an enterprise, in cooperation, are
ultimately responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the
enterprise. They are also collectively responsible for the evolution of
the enterprise, in order to meet new challenges. We believe these
responsibilities can be born in a much more effective way if members
have an appropriate knowledge and an effective awareness of the
enterprise given by a sound engineering approach put forward by a
full-fledged scientific discipline.
The mission of enterprise engineering
The CIAO! Enterprise Engineering Network
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=fU0HBQBRV1RXABhSA1NQGlVdDw5LVlIPX…>
is a community of academics and practitioners who strive to contribute
to the development of the discipline of Enterprise Engineering (EE), and
to apply it in practice. The long term aim is to develop a holistic and
general systems theory based understanding on how to (re)design and run
enterprises effectively.
The ambition is therefore to gather and develop a consistent and
coherent set of theories, models and associated methods that: enable
enterprises to reflect, in a systematic way, on how to realise
improvements; and assist them, in practice, in achieving their aspirations.
In doing so, sound empirical and scientific foundations should underlie
all efforts and all organisational aspects that are relevant should be
considered, while combining already existing knowledge from the
scientific fields of information systems, software engineering,
management science, organisational sciences, as well as philosophy,
semiotics and sociology, amongst others.
To this end, the network regularly organises events
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=fU0DUwMFAVkCABgHCFMHGlUMAVNLDVILA…>
such as the Enterprise Engineering Working Conference and associated
Doctoral Consortium to drive the promotion and development of the
enterprise engineering body of knowledge.
A history of rigour, relevance and an open perspective
The Enterprise Engineering Working Conference (EEWC) series emerged out
of the CIAO! workshop and doctoral consortium held from 2008 until 2010,
after which they transitioned into the Enterprise Engineering Working
Conference (EEWC).
The EEWC regularly featured an industrial track. To institutionalise the
interaction between the practice of enterprise engineering, and
enterprise transformation in general, it was decided that as of 2017 the
TEE series
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=fU0LVAMKVFNbXxhSAwAOGlUJWgVLVgBcD…>
on Transformation and Engineering of Enterprises would be fully merged
into the EEWC series.
The TEE series of events (including PRET, LABEM, and AppEER) provided a
practice-driven perspective on enterprise engineering, featuring papers
taking real-world cases of enterprise transformations as a starting
point. Merging TEE into the EEWC series aimed to enable a tight
integration of rigour and relevance and constitutes the EEWC Forum
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=fU0DB1ECVwNbWhgHAQMHGlUKDg9LVlwKA…>,
integrated in the conference week.
The origin of the scientific foundations of our present body of
knowledge is the CIAO! Paradigm (Communication, Information, Action,
Organisation) as expressed in our Enterprise Engineering Manifesto
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=fU1VAwJSVAdbARhXAlIDGlUOXFJLVVQOW…> and
the paper: The Discipline of Enterprise Engineering
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=fU1QAANXUQUCABhQAg4GGlVdWVBLDFRdC…>.
In this paradigm, organisation is considered to emerge in human
communication, through the intermediate roles of information and action.
Based on the CIAO! Paradigm, several theories have been developed, and
still are being proposed. They are published as technical reports
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=fU1SAlZVUQACXRhQAQVSGlVZWQVLDQAMX…>.
Considering theories or sets of theories as lenses to see and understand
reality we can say that two main lenses have emerged out of the CIAO!
network efforts: the Enterprise Ontology theories and the Normalized
Systems theory, both with relevant results in practice.
Organisations and their enterprises, being socio-technical systems, are
the result of a social dialogue among the social individuals that make
up the organisation and the two currently identified lenses are, so we
certainly expect, not enough. More lenses are needed and the current
ones are open to extensions and/or improvements.
The CIAO! community has always taken the view that (1) rigour and
relevance, and (2) a shared understanding (based on a shared "meta
ontology", such as the EE paradigm) is a crucial element in ensuring
effective discussions within the community. In adding/extending lenses,
new members are expected to underline these qualities as well. In
adding/extending lenses, it is expected that the "meta ontology" will
evolve/extend based on new, shared, insights.
Dedicated Sessions
Having in mind the spirit put forward in the previous section, the EEWC
aims to expand its community and reach out to other communities to find
synergies and cooperate in the development of the EE discipline. To this
end, from 2017 onwards the EEWC includes special/dedicated sessions
focused on lenses and/or domains as to inspire and facilitate this
cooperation effort. Thus, in the EEWC 2019 we plan to give focus to the
following domains:
* Enterprise Ontology
* Normalized Systems
* Foundational Ontologies
* Fact Based Modeling
* Enterprise Interoperability
* Standards and Policies in sectors/domains:
o Smart Cities
o Construction
o Supply Chain Management
* Other EE topics
There is one single track in the conference and accepted submissions
will be assigned to one of the sessions above.
Relevant topics
Topics of interest to for the EEWC include, but are not limited to:
* Business Process Management
* Business Process Improvement
* Business Process Modelling and Simulation
* Business Rules
* Business Rules Management
* Collaborative, Participatory, and Interactive Modelling
* Domain Ontologies

Publications and Conference format
The EEWC proceedings will, as always, be published in the Springer LNBIP
(Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=fU0HAFEBBwJWWBhQUQdQGlUPWlJLVQUIC…>)
series.
We are looking for papers on current or recently finished research
initiatives/projects as well as papers from practitioners. Based on our
motivating experience of the previous working conferences, the seventh
EEWC is planned to be a real working conference, providing ample time
for profound discussions following the paper presentations. Therefore,
normally 40 minutes slots are planned for each accepted full paper, with
a maximum limit of 15 pages. Since the EEWC 2017 we now accept
publication (also in the Springer proceedings) and presentation of short
papers with a page limit of 9 pages to be adapted from the original
submission with page limit of 15 pages.
As a result of the merging of the TEE Series
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=fU0LVAMKVFNbXxhSAwAOGlUJWgVLVgBcD…>
with the EEWC and also to foster community building and more sharing and
discussion regarding preliminary research and reporting on practice in
our domains, we introduced in 2017 the EEWC Forum
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=fU0DB1ECVwNbWhgHAQMHGlUKDg9LVlwKA…>
where case reports are accepted, as well as posters invited from the
submissions to the EEWC not accepted as full or short papers but with
interesting contents to discuss. Case reports and posters will be
officially published on CEUR

For over 50 years, ACM SIGMIS Computers and People Research (CPR)
conference has engaged the academic and practitioner communities in
understanding issues pertaining to the intersection of information
technology and people. From its roots in the IT workforce, CPR has
broadened its focus to deal with all aspects of this important and
complex relationship. We are delighted to welcome the 2019 ACM SIGMIS
CPR conference to exciting Nashville, Tennessee from June 20-22, 2019.
In the world of information systems, some issues are transitory, and
some endure. The focus of the 2019 conference is on these enduring
questions. A few of the enduring questions are:
Individual
· What leads to individuals resisting the use of IT (resistance,
workarounds, BYOD)?
· What are the impacts of emerging technologies (social media,
analytics, blockchain) on workers?
· How does the design of a system or technology impact worker
acceptance and/or resistance?
· How do individual humans interact with robotic co-workers?
Organizational
· How can organizations understand emerging technologies and their
potential risks and opportunities?
· What factors impact retention and turnover in the IT workforce?
· What unique challenges exist for managing IT workers, and how do
we meet those challenges?
· What is the business value of IT? From what does this value derive?
· What are the best ways to organize IT work?
· Will emerging IT enable new organizational forms? What are those
forms?
Societal
· How does IT impact the nature of work? How will IT impact the
nature of work in the future?
· How can we address the various digital divides?
· How does the interaction of IT and people impact innovation, and
how is innovation impacted by this interaction?
· How does IT impact entrepreneurial activities?
Workforce
· Why are some demographic groups under-represented in the IT
workforce?
· What are the characteristics of the IT workforce? How are these
characteristics changing?
· How can universities best prepare students for careers in
information systems and information technology?
· What are the key skills for entry into the IT workforce? How are
these skills changing?
· What ethical issues result from embedding IT in work?
· What security and privacy issues result from embedding IT in work?
IS Education
· How do we help students develop the skills needed for entry into,
and success in the IT workforce?
· How can we attract promising students to IS programs?
· How should IS programs deal with emerging technologies?
· How do IS programs differentiate themselves from computer
science, analytics, data science and other overlapping programs?
· How can universities best prepare students for careers in
information systems and information technology?
In addition to the conference theme, we also invite submissions to a
general Information Systems track that broadly addresses issues at the
intersection of information technology and people.
Doctoral Consortium
A doctoral consortium will take place as in previous years in
conjunction with the CPR 2019 conference. It is meant for students
spanning those at an early stage in their doctoral program to those who
are more advanced and are at the stage of writing their dissertation
proposal, and who are conducting research on a topic related to the
conference theme or to the broad focus of the CPR conference on
understanding issues pertaining to the intersection of information
technology and people. The purpose of the consortium is two-fold: 1)
provide feedback and guidance to students on their proposal while at a
stage where feedback can be considered for future dissertation work, and
2) provide mentoring and networking opportunities to students who wish
to pursue careers as researchers at the intersection of information
systems and people.
Doctoral students must be nominated to the consortium by a faculty
sponsor. Students nominated for the consortium should submit via email
to Dr. Indira Guzman (Indira.Guzman(a)trident.edu
<mailto:Indira.Guzman@trident.edu>) a 10-page research proposal
(including all text, figures, and references; double space) to be
reviewed by a panel of highly qualified senior faculty mentors. The
doctoral students selected to participate in the doctoral consortium
will receive one round of written feedback on their proposal.
At the conference, each student will have 15-20 minutes to present their
research ideas and receive feedback in-person from experienced
researchers and fellow consortium participants. The doctoral consortium
will allow activities in plenary mode and intense workshop sessions in
smaller groups. The submission deadline for doctoral consortium
application is the same as the general submission deadline. Accepted
students may choose to publish the full proposal that was submitted for
evaluation or an extended abstract of their proposal in the conference
proceedings.
Funding will be available to assist with travel and registration fees to
students selected for the doctoral consortium.
Proceedings
Accepted papers will be published by ACM in the refereed conference
proceedings, which will be distributed at the conference. Authors of
accepted papers may choose to publish complete papers or extended
abstracts of their research in the conference proceedings. All completed
research papers that are to be published in their entirety in the
conference proceedings will be considered for the Magid Igbaria
Outstanding Conference Paper of the Year Award. The Magid Igbaria
Outstanding Conference Paper and other exemplar papers will be invited
for publication in the DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems—the
quarterly journal publication of ACM SIGMIS. Articles will not be
published in the event proceedings if at least one author of a submitted
work is unable to present their article at the conference.
AUTHORS TAKE NOTE: The official publication date is the date the
proceedings are made available in the ACM Digital Library. This date may
be up to two weeks prior to the first day of your conference. The
official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings
related to published work. (For those rare conferences whose proceedings
are published in the ACM Digital Library after the conference is over,
the official publication date remains the first day of the conference.)
Proceedings of all previous CPR conferences are available in the ACM
Digital Library at http://portal.acm.org/dl.cfm.
Conference Location
Nashville, Tennessee is known as the Home of Country Music, but it has
much more to offer. Nashville is the state capital, and is home to
numerous higher education institutions, including Vanderbilt University,
Tennessee State University, Belmont University, and Lipscomb University.
Healthcare, not music, is Nashville’s largest industry, employing
200,000 and contributing $30,000,000,000 to the regional economy.
Nashville is also the third fastest growing economy in the United
States. As one might expect, Nashville has a lively music scene in
addition to the honky-tonk music venues along the famed “District,” the
city boasts a major performing arts center and opera and ballet
companies, along with the Nashville Symphony. Nashville is home to
numerous country music icons, such as the Ryman Auditorium, the Grand
Ole Opry House, and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, but also
boasts numerous art centers and museums, and a botanical garden. The
Nashville International Airport provides direct flights to over fifty
cities, including London (Heathrow), Dallas, Los Angeles, New York (JFK
and LaGuardia), Chicago, and Washington D.C. (Reagan and Dulles).

September 17 - 19, 2019
Vienna, Austria
Knowledge Management (KM) is a discipline concerned with the analysis
and technical support of practices used in an organization to identify,
create, represent, distribute and enable the adoption and leveraging of
good practices embedded in collaborative settings and, in particular, in
organizational processes. Effective knowledge management is an
increasingly important source of competitive advantage, and a key to the
success of contemporary organizations, bolstering the collective
expertise of its employees and partners. There are several perspectives
on KM, but all share the same core components, namely: People, Processes
and Technology. Some take a techno-centric focus, in order to enhance
knowledge integration and creation; some take an organizational focus,
in order to optimize organization design and workflows; some take an
ecological focus, where the important aspects are related to people
interaction, knowledge and environmental factors as a complex adaptive
system similar to a natural ecosystem. An information system (IS) is an
organized system for the collection, organization, storage and
communication of information.

Dear colleagues,
Please find the CfP for the special issue on Emerging technologies,
Enterprise Systems and Knowledge Management.
*Knowledge Management Research & Practice*
*Special Issue: Emerging technologies, Enterprise Systems and Knowledge
Management*
Enterprises systems are systems that integrate all data and information
systems and services as a type of Enterprise Knowledge Directory (EKD:
Galup, Dattero, & Hicks, 2003). They are internal to the enterprise and can
gather and interpret data and information from outside the enterprise’s
boundary (e.g. internet, supply chains, etc.) to serve multi-organizations.
Enterprise systems can integrate ICT -related communications; for example,
record video conferences for storage, retrieval, analysis and use in
decision-making. As an all embracing and integrated organizational-based
data, information and intelligence- based system, Enterprise Systems should
logically be related to organizational KM and certainly integral to
organizational KMS. Surprisingly, however, the literature has barely made
this connection.
Knowledge management in the organisation relies in great part on the
information systems in which the data are entered, processed, stored and
extracted as the output and the basis for analysis. This type of
information system in the context of an enterprise are often called
enterprise systems (Przemyslaw, 2014) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
Systems. They require high implementation costs and are normally customized
to fit individual organizational requirements.
As indicated by the literature, organizational knowledge sharing is greatly
affected by the service quality, system quality and technology in the
enterprise systems (Somayyeh and Ali, 2018). For example, at the
operational level, business processes are the foundation for designing,
implementing, and staff training in the adoption or upgrading of enterprise
systems that influence the service quality and system quality. At the same
time, managing knowledge life cycles and aligning the analysis to process
management is essential to create business value (Christian, 2014).
At the strategic level, Business Intelligence and data analytics are often
built-into the enterprise systems to serve executive decision making. These
systems can gather key information by sorting and extracting data from the
distributed databases in large organisations including multinational and
global enterprises. The process is actually a way of articulation as
described by Richard, Herschel, and Nory (2005, p50), converting tacit
knowledge into explicit knowledge by specifying the purpose of the
decision, articulating parameters, objective functions, and relationships,
providing what-if analysis, and evaluating the alternatives. They further
suggest that there exists a reciprocal interaction effect between KM and BI
as the need to correct and validate the computational logic of data
requires the sense-making capabilities of knowledgeable people. As such
there are implications that to most effectively manage knowledge in
organisation requires coordination with the implementing and running of
enterprise systems in such areas as design, training, user environment,
culture, and top management involvement and IT support.
Despite the critical role of enterprise systems in organizations, there has
been little literature studying it in relationship to the management of
organizational knowledge and the context of knowledge management systems.
For example, it is difficult to locate research investigating how KM is
organized and maintained within enterprise system environments, and what
the influences of the contextual factors such as the industry type, firm
sizes, and top management are. Enterprise systems are designed into many
different forms in the markets. Using SAP as an example; it has been
adopted by city councils, the army, food industry, airlines, and recently
insurance corporations (SAP, 2014). There are also enterprise systems for
not-for-profit organizations such as hospital resource planning (HRP) in
hospitals and healthcare organizations, computer reservation system (CRS)
in the tourism industry, and manufacturing execution system (MES) in
production industries.
In addition, the dynamic nature of business and technology can also impact
the evolution of the enterprise systems (Wang, Pauleen and Chan, 2013). To
reflect rapid changes in recent years, technologies need to be studied with
ES and KM in order to understand how KMS may be impacted due to changes
wrought by emerging technologies (e.g., IOT, Big Data, social media tools,
and artificial intelligent) and ES.
Industry practitioners and academic researchers have focused on the
importance of investment and adoption of emerging technologies for quality
and productivity improvements. There is a need to see how these factors
with the ongoing development of knowledge management literature and the
increasing functionality and scales of enterprise systems in the changing
business world.
*What can I contribute?*
Submissions are invited to investigate these phenomena. Areas of particular
interest include: how new technologies enhance knowledge management in
enterprise systems settings; how changes in business affect the evolution
of KMS. Prospective topics include, but are not limited to the list below
and all social science research methods will be considered.

Enterprise Systems, such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer
Relationship Management (CRM), Supply Chain Management(SCM), Manufacturing
Execution Systems (MES) , Customer Reservation Systems (as used in airline,

Simulation (NUMTA2019-HPCMS)
TH Le Castella Village
Le Castella – Isola Capo Rizzuto
Crotone, Italy
DEADLINE for One-page Abstract submission: March 18, 2019
**************************************************************************
Model development for the simulation of the evolution of artificial
and natural systems is essential for the advancement of Science. The
increasing power of computers has allowed to considerably extend the
application of computing methodologies in research and industry, but
also to the quantitative study of complex phenomena. This has
permitted a broad application of numerical methods for differential
equation systems (e.g., FEM, FDM, etc.) on one hand, and the
application of alternative computational paradigms, such as Cellular
Automata, Genetic Algorithms, Neural networks, Swarm Intelligence,
etc., on the other. These latter have demonstrated their effectiveness
for modelling purposes when traditional simulation methodologies have
proven to be impracticable.
An important mission of the HPCMS Special Session within the NUMTA
2019 3rd International Conference and Summer School is to provide a
platform for a multidisciplinary community composed of scholars,
researchers, developers, educators, practitioners and experts from
