The International Workshop of Software Architecture Principles for and
with Cloud Computing (ArchiteCloud 2010)
http://www.nicta.com.au/people/tosicv/architecloud2010
In conjunction with the 10th IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Cluster,
Cloud and Grid Computing CCGrid 2010
(http://www.manjrasoft.com/ccgrid2010/mainpage.html)
May 17-20, 2010, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Paper submission deadline: December 20th 2009
Workshop Theme: Empower Cloud Applications with Architectural Principles
Cloud computing is an emerging computing paradigm that aims to
streamline the on-demand provisioning of software, hardware, and data as
services. Deploying applications on a Cloud can help to achieve
scalability and maintain a flexible infrastructure at user sites. A
variety of challenges arise when deploying and operating applications and
services on a Cloud in dynamic and evolving environments. Some examples of
such challenges are: how to manage and guarantee service level agreements
(SLAs) of services by leveraging Cloud computing capacity; how to
integrate collaborative services deployed on-premise and on different
Clouds; how to handle exceptions of long-running transactions across
loosely coupled services on Clouds; how to deploy business processes and
monitor their runtime status, among others. These challenges can be
partially faced by applying architectural principles to Cloud application
design. Building solutions that either reuse established software
architecture principles for Cloud applications or facilitate new
architectural principles specific for Cloud computing will provide deep
insights not only about how to design Cloud applications, but also how to
evaluate the practical usage of Cloud computing technologies. For example,
past work on architectures for ultra-large scale systems can be useful for
Cloud applications.
On the other hand, there is also a significant impact of Cloud
computing on software architecture. As the popularity and diversity of
Cloud applications grows, some principles for architecting software (and,
more generally, IT) systems require re-examination and new architectural
principles have to be identified. The aim of this workshop is to encourage
academic researchers and industry practitioners to present and discuss all
software architecture-related research and experiences in the broad
spectrum of Cloud computing.
The topics of the workshop include but are not limited to:
Relevance of particular architecture principles and approaches for Cloud
computing
Impact of Cloud computing on architecture of software and, more
generally, IT systems
Patterns, best practices and experience report in development for
Cloud-based applications
Architecture support for enhancing Cloud computing interoperability,
including standards and protocols proposal or extension for integrating
applications on-premise and different Cloud platforms
Cloud architectures of emerging applications, such as mashup for
enterprise services, data intensive computing and scientific workflows
Architecture support for SLA management and negotiation protocols for
dynamic Cloud service binding
Architecture accountability of Cloud services, including mechanisms,
algorithms and methods for monitoring, analysing and reporting service
status and usage profile
Architecture support for trust in/by Cloud services (service as a
trustor and/or a trustee)
Capacity planning of services running on the Cloud
Deployment and configuration of Cloud services
Architecture support for dynamic resource management to support
computing needs of Cloud services
Cloud architectures for dependability and security
Business analysis and process for designing large scale SOA applications
 Evaluation methods for Cloud architectures
Important Dates
 Submission deadline: December 20th 2009
Notification of acceptance: January 30th, 2009
 Camera-ready copy: February 15th, 2009

2nd International Workshop on
Future Trends of Model-Driven Development
(FTMDD10)
8 12 June 2010
in conjunction with the 12th International Conference on
Enterprise Information Systems (http:// www.iceis.org/)
Funchal, Madeira - Portugal
Background and Goals
------------------------------
The Model-Driven Architecture (MDA) is an approach to the development of
IT systems fostered by the Object Management Group (OMG) that separates
the specification of the system functionality from its implementation on a
particular platform. A common pattern of MDA development is to define a
platform-independent model (PIM) of a system, and to apply (parameterised)
transformations to this PIM to obtain one or more platform-specific models
(PSMs). In this context, PIMs are reusable models that consolidate the
application development effort. Furthermore, MDA advocates the use of OMG
core technology, especially the Meta-Object Facility (MOF) and
MOF-compliant languages such as UML and CWM. In Model-Driven Development
the MDA principles and technologies are applied in the development of
software systems.
MDD is already around for some years and is about to become commodity in
software development due to its benefits (reduction on development costs,
improvement of software quality, reduction of maintenance costs and the
support for controlled evolution of IT systems). MDD has also been applied
in many application areas, such as real-time and embedded systems, and
telecommunication systems, and, more recently, to the development and
integration of enterprise information systems. However, the MDD research
community is wishing to explore the bounds of MDD, by investigating new
applications areas and combinations with other emerging technologies,
like, for example, pervasive context-aware systems, Semantic web, Semantic
web services, SOA and ontologies. This workshop aims at fostering the
further development and application of MDD techniques. This is the second
edition of this workshop, in which we want to build upon the very
successful first edition last year in Milan.

CALL FOR PAPERS and POSTERS
Agent-Directed Simulation Symposium (ADS'10)
Orlando, Florida, USA
April 12-14, 2010
http://www.site.uottawa.ca/~oren/conf-org/ADS_2010/ADS-CFP.htm
Manuscript Submission: November 30, 2009.
Sponsored by The Society for Modeling and Simulation
International (SCS) in collaboration with ACM/SIGSIM.
==============================================================
As part of the 2010 Spring Simulation Multi-conference (SpringSim'10)
http://www.scs.org/confernc/springsim/springsim10/springsim10.htm
the 2010 Agent-Directed Simulation Symposium is a premier platform to
explore all three aspects of the synergy of simulation and agent
technologies. Hence, it has a special place within simulation and
agent conferences, including agent-based (social) simulation
conferences. Therefore the ADS symposium fills a gap in the agent
community as well as the simulation community.
The purpose of the ADS symposium is to facilitate dissemination of the
most recent advancements in the theory, methodology, application, and
toolkits of agent-directed simulation. Agent-directed simulation is
comprehensive in the integration of agent and simulation technologies,
by including models that use agents to develop domain-specific
simulations, i.e., agent simulation (this is often referred to as
agent-based simulation -when other two important aspects are not
considered), and by also including the use of agent technology to
develop simulation techniques and toolkits that are subsequently
applied, either with or without agents.
Hence, agent-directed simulation consists of three distinct, yet
related areas that can be grouped under two categories as follows:
1. Simulation for Agents (agent simulation): simulation of agent
systems in engineering, human and social dynamics, military
applications etc.
2. Agents for Simulation (which has two aspects): agent-supported
simulation deals with the use of agents as a support facility to
enable computer assistance in problem solving or enhancing
cognitive capabilities; and agent-based simulation that focuses
on the use of agents for the generation of model behavior in a
simulation study.
Through the theme of agent-directed simulation, the symposium will
bring together agent technologies, tools, toolkits, platforms,
languages, methodologies, and applications in a pragmatic manner. In
this symposium, established researchers, educators, and students are
encouraged to come together and discuss the benefits of agent
technology in their use and application for simulation. It is a way
for people to discuss why and how they have used agent technology in
their simulations, and describe the benefit of having done so.
The theme of ADS'10 is based on the observation of the following
premises.
* The growth of new advanced distributed computing standards along
with the rapid rise of e-commerce are providing a new context that
acts as a critical driver for the development of next generation
systems. These standards revolve around service-oriented
technologies, pervasive computing, web-services, Grid, autonomic
computing, ambient intelligence etc. The supporting role that
intelligent agents play in the development of such systems is
becoming pervasive, and simulation plays a critical role in the
analysis and design of such systems.
* The use of emergent agent technologies at the organization,
interaction (e.g., coordination, negotiation, communication) and
agent levels (i.e. reasoning, autonomy) are expected to advance
the state of the art in various application technologies is
difficult. Using agent-supported simulation techniques for
testing complex agent systems is up and coming field.
* To facilitate bridging the gap between research and application,
there is a need for tools, agent programming languages, and
methodologies to analyze, design, and implement complex,
non-trivial agent-based simulations. Existing agent-based
simulation tools are still not mature enough to enable developing
agents with varying degrees cognitive and reasoning capabilities.
ADS'10 will provide a leading forum to bring together researchers and
practitioners from diverse simulation societies within computer science,
social sciences, engineering, business, education, human factors, and
systems engineering. The involvement of various agent-directed
simulation groups will enable the cross-fertilization of ideas and
development of new perspectives by fostering novel advanced solutions,
as well as enabling technologies for agent-directed simulation
AUTHOR GUIDE
* Technical papers provide a longer format for presenting experience
reports, research results, or descriptions of "work in progress".
They are limited to 8 pages.
* Short position papers are targeted at raising a question or framing
an issue for discussion during the symposium. Position papers are
limited to 3 pages.
* Poster presentations present an opportunity to present work in
progress and receive feedback from colleagues. A one page write-up
of the poster presentations will be included in the proceedings.
(For all, required font sizes are: min 10 pt for text and min 9 pt for
figures or references).
Papers should be submitted electronically to
http://www.softconf.com/scs/ADS10/ .
All papers will be subject to a peer-reviewing process by three program
committee members. (Please see the key dates listed below.)
FINAL PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
All prospective authors, whose papers are accepted for inclusion in the
program, will be invited to submit their position or technical papers
to ADS'10. Accepted and registered papers will be published in the
conference proceedings by the SCS. In addition, the committee will
select a set of best papers. Authors of these papers will be encouraged to

Paper Review Policy
IEEE Policy and professional ethics requires that referees treat the
contents of papers under review
as privileged information not to be disclosed to others before
publication. It is expected that no
one with access to a paper under review will make any inappropriate use of
the special knowledge,
which that access provides. Contents of abstracts submitted to conference
program committees should
be regarded as privileged as well, and handled in the same manner. The
Conference Publications Chair
shall ensure that referees adhere to this practice. Organizers of IEEE
conferences are expected to
provide an appropriate forum for the oral presentation and discussion of
all accepted papers. An
author, in offering a paper for presentation at an IEEE conference, or
accepting an invitation to
present a paper, is expected to be present at the meeting to deliver the
paper. In the event that
circumstances unknown at the time of submission of a paper preclude its
presentation by an author,
the program chair should be informed on time, and appropriate substitute
arrangements should be made.
In some cases it may help reduce no-shows for the Conference to require
advance registration together
with the submission of the final manuscript.

1st International Workshop on Empirical Research in Process-oriented
Information Systems
Official website: http://www.bpm.fit.qut.edu.au/erpois2010/
---------------------------
I. Workshop Theme and Goals
---------------------------
Since the advent of business process reengineering in the 1990s, modeling
and optimization of business processes has become a critical factor in
business as well as in non-profit and government organizations. Today,
with many forms of interorganizational cooperation in the form of
e-business, outsourcing, and other kinds of value webs, business process
management and coordination process management are crucial for the
survival of organizations. As a result, information systems are required
to manipulate not only data but also processes. Process-oriented
information systems (POIS) are systems that can provide data support as
well as process support to organizations. Examples are workflow management
systems, ERP systems, and systems for cross-organizational coordination
management.
Some of the challenges facing POIS include requirements management,
performance monitoring, service level agreements and governance. The 1st
International Workshop on Empirical Research in Process-Oriented
Information Systems (ER-POIS 2010) aims to provide a platform for
exchanging empirical research results about POIS problems and solutions.
The workshop takes an empirical perspective, which means that we will not
solicit papers that propose solutions, new techniques or methods, but
solicit papers with empirical research results about existing problems or
implemented solutions, or about empirical validations of proposed
solutions. We assume the solutions have been specified elsewhere, possibly
in earlier papers.
We encourage the use of any research method, ranging from experimental
research to surveys, case studies and action research, provided that a
discussion of the validity of the method and of the results obtained with
the method is included in the paper.
-------------------
II. Workshop Format
-------------------
The workshop will comprise presentations of accepted papers and tool
reports. Submitted papers will be reviewed by at least three members of
the program committee, and will be evaluated on the basis of significance,
originality, technical quality, and exposition. Papers should clearly
establish their research contribution and shall particularly address the
relation to transferring methods and technologies into practice.
All accepted papers will appear in the joint electronic CAiSE workshop
proceedings (distributed on USB sticks). At least one author for each
accepted paper must register for the workshop and present the paper.
Please note: Top workshop papers will be published (after extension and
enhancement) in a Special Issue of the Journal of Cooperative Information
Systems (IJCIS).
-----------------------

Papers should be submitted in the Springer LNCS format.
Papers have to present original research contributions not concurrently
submitted elsewhere. The title page must contain a short abstract, a
classification of the topics covered, preferably using the list of topics
above, and an indication of the submission category (full paper | position
paper | tool report).
Papers should be submitted in PDF format electronically via the EasyChair:
http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=erpois2010
