Engineering Middleware for Service-Oriented Computing
Special Issue of the International Journal of Systems and Service-Oriented
Engineering (IJSSOE)
http://www.dedisys.org/em4soc/

Submission due date: February 8, 2010
Guest Editors
Karl Michael Goeschka, Vienna University of Technology, Austria
Helen Hye-young Paik, University of New South Wales, Australia
Vladimir Tosic, NICTA, Australia
Objectives of the Special Issue
Service Oriented Computing (SOC) plays a key role in todays middleware
technology. Although the immediate need of middleware support for SOC is
evident, current approaches and solutions still fall short of providing
sufficient support for various issues, among others service discovery,
re-use, re-purpose, multi-channel delivery, composition and aggregation,
quality of service guarantees, dependability and security, management and
monitoring.
Moreover, dramatic increases in the availability of mobile devices and
embedded/networked sensors, and the rapid emergence of cloud computing and
server virtualization (such as Platform as a Service, Infrastructure as a
Service and Software as a Service) raise new challenges for the field.
Consequently, the goal of this special issue is to report on significant
new developments within the field of middleware for Service Oriented
Computing. We seek original research papers that report mature results and
advances in this area. We also invite analytical review or survey articles
that present in-depth views on the state-of-the-art middleware for SOC
concepts, systems, trends and challenges.
Topics
Topics to be discussed in this special issue include (but are not limited
to) the following:
* Architectures and platforms for middleware for SOC
* Aspect-orientation in Web services middleware
* Autonomic computing solutions for Web services
* Best practices and patterns for Web services middleware
* Middleware for Cloud Computing, Grid/Utility Computing
* Middleware for discovery and/or selection of Web services
* Middleware for Web Service choreography/orchestration
* Middleware for Semantic Web-services
* Middleware for Web services in mobile, embedded, and
ubiquitous/pervasive environments
* Monitoring and management middleware for Web services
* Negotiation middleware for Web services
* Policy-based middleware for Web services
* Quality of service middleware for Web services
* SLA and technical policy support through middleware.
* Reputation and/or trust middleware for Web services
* Reliability, dependability, and fault-tolerance middleware for Web
services
* Security and/or privacy middleware for Web services
* Service-oriented middleware

WORKSHOP CHAIRS
- Dov Gabbay (King's College London, Bar-Ilan University and University
of Luxembourg)
- Leendert van der Torre (University of Luxembourg)
--------------------------------------------------------------
ABSTRACT
In the past two decades, a number of logics and formal frameworks have
been proposed to model
and analyse interconnected systems from the security point of view.
Recently, the increasing
need to cope with distributed and complex scenarios forced researchers
in formal security to
employ non-classical logics to reason about these systems.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together logicians and formal
security researchers
to foster the cross-fertilization between these two areas. Logicians
have a lot to benefit
from specifying and reasoning about real-world scenarios as well as
researchers in security
can apply recent advances in non-classical logics to improve their
formalisms.
We are interested in logical foundations of security and in particular
in the following topics:
Language-based security Access
Control
Judgemental Analysis
Privacy
Automated Theorem Proving Protocol
Verification
Term-Rewriting Systems applied to Security Architectures
Logical Programming Trust and Reputation
Management
Modal Logic Static Analysis of
Programs
Dynamic Logic Risk
Management
Epistemic and Deontic Logic Policy Compliance
Security in Multi-Agent System
Formal Cryptography

Call for Applications
Program Chair:
* Josiane Mothe (France)
* Philippe Roy (France)
The RIAO conferences are meeting places for scientific and industrial specialists in information retrieval. There are sites for presentations of both high-level peer-reviewed scientific research and prototypes and of innovative products, selected by a special Call for Applications. This present Call for Application has been sent at the same time that the Call for Papers for the RIAO 2010 Conference. The products presented are chosen uniquely on the basis of their innovativeness in the area of the conference topics.
The "Centre de Hautes Etudes Internationales d'Informatique Documentaire" (C.I.D.) organizes the RIAO conferences every three years since 1985. RIAO stands for "Recherche d'Information Assistee par Ordinateur", i.e. computer aided Information search.
RIAO conferences have two selection committees: a Program Committee for scientific papers, and an Applications Committee which seeks out and selects those innovative products for the conference.
The RIAO conferences are not trade shows since the teams presenting innovative applications are selected and do not pay for the booth and time that they are given during the conference.
Companies whose application fulfills the criteria of novelty and of innovativeness can fill in an electronic form designed by the conference organizers that describes their submitted application.
In addition to the form, application submitters will have to provide access to an online or CD version of the demo or released product that demonstrates the claimed innovative functionalities of the application. Applications Committee members will verify the functionalities of the product.
After examination of the dossier and the demonstration of each application, the Application Committee members select the best products.
Each chosen company will be provided with a demonstration space (including table and chair) free of charge. The space is near the amphitheatre in which the scientific papers are presented.
Each company may also be given a special time slot (15 minutes) to give a short presentation of the product.
A dedicated social event sponsored by Cap Digital, digital content cluster of the Paris Region, will allow selected companies to meet with French top innovative SMEs in the domain of knowledge engineering and multimedia services.
The general topic of the Call for Applications is:
ADAPTIVITY, PERSONALIZATION AND FUSION OF HETEROGENEOUS INFORMATION
Detailed topics are listed above in the call for papers.
Descriptions of the products demonstrated during RIAO 2010 will be published in the proceedings.
To submit an application please fill the following form: http://riao.free.fr/index.php?action=application.form&lang=en
