The International Conference on Ambient Systems, Networks and Technologies (ANT-2010) is a leading international conference which provides an international forum for researchers, developers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government to address research challenges and to present and discuss research ideas, developments and experiences related to the ambient systems infrastructure, models, and technologies.
The general aim of ambient systems is to provide an environment wherein computing devices exist anywhere and everywhere. In such systems mobile and embedded computing devices form ad hoc collaboration using different communication networks (e.g., wireless networks, RFID, etc) in order to share and exchange information and provide services. Ambient systems pose new research challenges due to the open and unreliable nature of the environment and the complexity and heterogeneity of the computing devices and the underlying communication networks. These characteristics challenge traditional techniques and demand new ways of approaching the problems related to the ambient systems.

Motivation
----------
Modern enterprises face a strong economical pressure to increase
competitiveness, to operate on a global market, and to engage in
alliances of several kinds. Agility thus has become the new guiding
principle for enterprises. This requires flexible organizational
structures and business processes, as well as flexible supporting
information systems and a flexible ICT-infrastructure. In addition, an
enterprise needs to be able to easily expand or shrink, be it through
cooperation with other enterprises, through mergers or acquisitions,
or through insourcing or outsourcing of services.
In order to meet these economical requirements, enterprises rely
increasingly on the benefits of modern information and communication
technology (ICT). However, the appropriate knowledge to deploy this
technology as needed, and in an effective and efficient way, is
largely lacking, particularly knowledge regarding the cooperation in
and between enterprises and knowledge regarding the interoperability
of their information systems.
Focus and Goal
--------------
The CIAO! workshop is a leading workshop in the emerging field of
Enterprise Engineering, which is based on the notions of Enterprise
Ontology and Enterprise Architecture. Enterprise Ontology is
conceptually defined as (the understanding of) the essence of an
enterprise. Operationally, it is its highest-level constructional
model, completely independent of the way in which it is implemented.
Enterprise Architecture is conceptually defined as the normative
restriction of design freedom. Operationally, it is the set of design
principles that are applicable to the (re)design of the enterprise's
business processes, organization, information systems, etc.
The goal of the workshop is to gather academics and practitioners in
order to share innovative research issues and practical experiences,
and to facilitate profound discussions about these issues, in
particular about the application of the notions of architecture and
ontology in dealing with inter- and intra-organizational business
processes and the interoperability of supporting information systems.
Topics of interest to this workshop include, but are not limited to:
* Modeling (cross-enterprise) business processes
* Reference models for (cross-enterprise) business processes
* Cooperation theories (e.g., the language-action-perspective)
* Domain reference ontologies
* Enterprise ontologies
* Enterprise architectures
* Business rules
* Information system ontologies
* Information system architectures
* Component-based system development
* Ontology-based web services
* Interoperability testing and verification
* Service Oriented Architecture
Organization of the Workshop
----------------------------
The CIAO! 2010 workshop is the 6th workshop of a series of successful
workshops. (CIAO!'09, CIAO!'08, MIOS-CIAO'06, MIOS-INTEROP'05,
MIOS'04) held at the CAiSE and OTM Federated conferences so far.
We are looking for articles on current or recently finished research
projects as well as articles from practitioners. Based on our
inspiring experience of the 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 workshops,
the CIAO! 2010 workshop is planned again to be a real workshop,
providing ample time for discussions and group works, during two days.
Consequently, the paper presentations will be short, covering only the
highlights. In addition, the focus of discussion will be on CIAO: the
problem areas Cooperation and Interoperability, and the application of
Architecture and Ontology in dealing with them.
Submission Conditions
---------------------
Papers should be submitted in PDF format. The results described must
be unpublished and must not be under review elsewhere. Submissions
must conform to Springer's LNBIP format and should not exceed 15
pages, including all text, figures, references and appendices.
Submissions not conforming to the LNBIP format or exceeding 15 pages
will be rejected without review. Information about the Springer LNBIP
format can be found at Springer LNBIP Web page (http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-7-487211-0

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
Transforming Government Workshop 2010
March 18-19, 2010, Brunel University, UK
http://www.tgovworkshops.org
Keynote Speakers:
- Prof. Vishwanath Venkatesh, University of Arkansas
- Dr. Stephen King, Leeds University, UK
Background:
E-government implementation efforts have now evolved from basic
information provisioning to more integrated and joined up service
offerings in most developed countries. Having successfully implemented a
number of transaction-based e-services by e-enabling front office and
customer facing processes, most developed countries are now working
towards realising transformational government (or T-Government). The
transformational phase is considered the highest level of maturity for
e-government programmes and encompasses redefining the delivery of
government services by providing a single point of contact to citizens
that makes the government transparent to citizens and businesses.
This phase involves reengineering and e-enabling back office processes and
information systems to enable more joined-up and citizen-centric
electronic government services. However, public sector transformation is a
massive and complex undertaking involving distributed decision-making that
requires a good understanding and evaluation of the political context,
business processes and technology.
Also, from a demand perspective extensive efforts are required to increase
citizens awareness about the transformation of the delivery of government
services and their online availability which would result in increased
e-participation. In order to prevent digital divide in terms of using
electronic government services, it is also necessary that citizens from
all facets of society are equipped with basic ICT skills as well as
private and or public access to high-speed internet connections. Yet,
despite the availability of innovative technologies, government agencies
are faced with many technical, organizational, and socio-economic
challenges and barriers that need to be addressed when developing,
adopting and diffusing electronic government systems and services.
Furthermore, from an organisational perspective t-government has
introduced an environment where most public institutions such as
healthcare, social services, education and employment have struggled with
the need to balance issues such as transparency and opaqueness, or social
inclusion and professionalism. Consequently, there has been increasing
pressure on the academic and practitioner communities for research that
focuses on bridging the gap between t-government theory and practice. The
aim of this workshop is to provide a common platform for academics and
practitioners to discuss and present original research highlighting issues
related with technical, organizational, managerial and socioeconomic
aspects of both (e) and (t)-government implementation and adoption.
Selected papers will be considered for publication in:
- Information Systems Journal
- European Journal of Information Systems
- Transforming Government: People, Process and Policy
- International Journal of Electronic Government Research

Special Issue: Innovation in the Digital Economy
GUEST EDITORIAL PREFACE
Special Issue on Innovation in the Digital Economy
Elena Druica, University of Bucharest, Romania
Viorel Cornescu, "Nicolae Titulescu" University, Romania
Widely accepted and widely discussed, the new approaches of the even newer Digital Era economy are far from being observed on a theoretical level only. Social, economic, psychological, and emotional impacts share the costs and benefits of the new paradigm, and the practices it triggered in frameworks where the evanescence of the physical boundaries leads both to increasing possibilities of making profit and to decreasing responsibility given to the human side of things. This special issue explores a broad part of this vast subject and provides the readers with an opened perspective toward various impacts of using digital tools in order to deal with innovation.

PAPER ONE
Professional Adhocracy, an Appropriate Design for Knowledge Economy in the Light of Mintzberg's Perspective
Ali Asghar Pourezzat, University of Tehran, Iran
Ghazaleh Taheri Attar, Allame Tabatabaei University, Iran
Success in the economy of digital age requires special capabilities, making the limited economical resources into valuable products. Among future limitations, limitation of super-specialized and expert human resources is very important and determining. Super-specialized human resources are considered as strategic factors, and the structure of future organizations should be designed in a way to best utilize the capability of these resources. Therefore, the main problem of future organizations is exploiting and utilizing the knowledge of super-specialized human resources. In this regard, combining the flexibility of adhocratic organizations and expertise-oriented credit of professional bureaucratic tried to design a relatively appropriate structure in the light of Mintzberg's perspective in order to succeed in future age or the knowledge-oriented age of digital economy.

Raheem Olasupo Akewushola, Lagos State University, Nigeria
Mustapha Abiodun Okunnu, Lagos State Polytechnic, Nigeria
Babatunde Rahman Yusuf, Lagos State University, Nigeria
Information technology success has been widely discussed in the past two decades. As systems and technologies are being improved and developed, discussions on their effectiveness and evaluation on their success have been continuously debated by researchers, scholars, and practitioners throughout the years. Besides the major concern of information technology effectiveness, this study identifies availability of Internet facilities and software packages as the major independent variable affecting organization success. A purposive selection is adopted in selecting forty medium scale enterprises from five divisions of the Lagos state. Descriptive statistics are used to determine the distribution of the data collected, and the co-efficient of multiple determinants (R2) are used to determine the percentage contribution of the enterprises that had access to Internet facilities and software packages.

Existing technology adoption models do not explicitly differentiate between the buyer and user of technology, seemingly assuming that the users and buyers are the same. This article reports on an investigation into cell phone/mobile phone use, with samples from China and the UK. There are three distinct stakeholders: the user, the initial purchaser, and the service payer and the relation between these stakeholders can be complex. The article presents a metric that captures six distinct relationships between the user, buyer, and service payer which can be used to distinguish between different adoption groups. This article also provides an enhanced TAM that captures some of the complexity of the user-buyer-service payer relationship in the adoption process for mobile technologies. In addition, the metric and enhanced TAM may be applied to other consumable technologies and working environments.

EDITORIAL PREFACE
IJDSST 1(4)
Guisseppi A. Forgionne, University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC), USA
Decision making support systems (DMSS) are information systems that
interactively support the decision making process of individuals and groups
in life, public and private organizations, and other entities. Each DMSS is
a vehicle that delivers computer and information technology and decision
technology to the local or internet system, typically involving accounting,
cognitive science, economic, management science, and statistical models that
describe the decision problem explicitly and provide solution
recommendations. This issue of IJDSST involves new hardware and software for
DMSS, new models to deliver decision making support, dialog management
between the user and system, data and model base management within the
system, output display and presentation, DMSS operations, and DMSS
technology management. Since the technologys purpose is to improve decision
making, articles in this issue are expected to link DMSS technology to
improvements in the process and outcomes of the decision making process
theoretically, mathematically, or empirically in a systematic and scientific
manner.

INTRODUCTION
Introduction: Technologies for Collaborative Decision Making
Pascale Zaraté, Toulouse University, France
Ana Respicio, University of Lisbon, Spain
Collaborative decision making (CDM) is positioned at the intersection of
several disciplines, such as information systems, operational research,
management science, organizational theory, and artificial intelligence. CDM
research is focused on decision making with special emphasis on supporting
groups and individuals requiring communication, negotiation, and agreement.
The spread of new technological developments, such as Web-based systems or
mobile services, has contributed to transform the way organizations and
groups operate and organize their decision making processes. These
situations constitute a challenge for organizations and supporting them is
extremely innovative. This issue of IJDSST proposes new systems supporting
decision makers in distributed environments and presents a study using
multi-criteria decision analysis methodologies.

PAPER ONE
Supporting Collaborative Multi-Criteria Evaluation: The VIP Analysis Plug-In
for Decision Deck
João N. Clímaco, INESC Coimbra and University of Coimbra, Portugal
João A. Costa, INESC Coimbra, Portugal
Luis C. Dias, INESC Coimbra and University of Coimbra, Portugal
Paulo Melo, INESC Coimbra and University of Coimbra, Portugal
This article presents the VIP analysis plug-in of Decision Deck 1.1, a
platform that hosts different evaluation methods to support decision makers
in the collaborative evaluation of alternatives in a multi-criteria and
multi-experts setting. VIP analysis is a tool for aggregation of
multicriteria performances by means of an additive value function under
imprecise information. VIP analysis incorporates different methods to
support the progressive reduction of the number of alternatives, introducing
a concept of tolerance that lets decision makers use some of the methods in
a more flexible manner. By being included in the Decision Deck platform, VIP
analysis is now integrated with other decision aiding methods within a
coherent interface.

PAPER TWO
Model Inspection in the Context of a Distributed DSS
Matthias Buchs, University of Fribourg, Switzerland
Pius Hättenschwiler, University of Fribourg, Switzerland
Dicodess is a model-based distributed cooperative decision support system
framework. It encapsulates the underlying model in a graphical user
interface shielding users from the technical details of model configuration
and optimization; however, a model usually evolves over time and therefore
needs verification and validation accordingly. Model views are a new concept
for modeling language and domain independent model visualizations. The focus
is not primarily on visualizing model input or model output but on the
models structure, the formalized knowledge. Modelers, as well as domain
experts, are able to inspect a model visually in order to get a better
understanding and to have a common base of discussion. The improvement of
model understanding and communication among the people involved leads to
models of better quality. This article proposes an example integration of
model views into Dicodess.

PAPER THREE
Towards the Realization of an Integrated Decision Support Environment for
Organizational Decision Making
Shaofeng Liu, University of Plymouth, UK
Alex H.B. Duffy, University of Strathclyde, UK
Robert Ian Whitfield, University of Strathclyde, UK
Iain M. Boyle, University of Strathclyde, UK
Iain McKenna, BVT Surface Fleet Ltd., UK
Traditional decision support systems are based on the paradigm of a single
decision maker working at a standalone computer or terminal who has a
specific decision to make with a specific goal in mind. Organizational
decision support systems aim to support decision makers at all levels of an
organization (from executive, middle management managers to operators), who
have a variety of decisions to make, with different priorities, often in a
distributed and dynamic environment. Such systems need to be designed and
developed with extra functionality to meet the challenges such as
collaborative working. This article proposes an integrated decision support
environment (IDSE) for organizational decision making. IDSE is an open
software platform which allows its users to define their own decision
processes and choose their own exiting decision tools to be integrated into
the platform. The IDSE is designed and developed based on distributed
client/server networking, with a multi-tier integration framework for
consistent information exchange and sharing, seamless process co-ordination
and synchronisation, and quick access to packaged and legacy systems.

PAPER FOUR
A Multi-Criteria Decision Aiding System to Support Monitoring in a Public
Administration
Maria Franca Norese, Politecnico di Torino, Italy
The Piedmont Region Financial Institute has had to construct a procedure and
a system to monitor projects that a regional law has financed. In this
context, the integration of a new data reading approach in a monitoring
procedure has been proposed and a multi-criteria decision aiding method,
ELECTRE TRI, has been applied to the problem, first to explain a possible
use of the acquired information and then to be integrated in the information
system. The model base of the prototype system is used as a shared space and
a common framework to better understand the aims and information needs of
the monitoring process. The application of ELECTRE TRI to the models
analytically synthesizes the information elements, to face the difficulties
of the monitoring process in its different phases and to support decisions,
in terms of modifications and integrations of activities for future law
applications.

Advances in the Web and mobile technologies offer new and exciting
services to users in various domains such as e-business, healthcare,
entertainment, and scientific activities. With the advances in mobile
technologies, Web also gets richer in its contents and usability. In
addition to its widespread usability in the e-commerce, education, and
media, it has established its roots in exchanging and sharing information
in social communities. For example, user-generated contents in the social
networks have transformed the Web into a new era or the Web2.0 - these
contents comprise a wealth of information often involving multimedia data
such as audio, video, pictures and blogs.
These new developments however introduce many new challenging problems to
researchers. For example, one of the major issues is to deal with the
resource scarcity in mobile environment. Though mobile devices and
wireless networks are improving their resources, they are still far behind
the wired networks and desktop PCs in terms of bandwidth, memory,
processing speed and battery powers. The other major challenge is how to
effectively build mobile systems that can dynamically adjust its behavior
reacting to the changes in location, context, and variation in network
bandwidth.
************************************************************
TOPICS OF INTEREST
This symposium aims to bring together researchers in an effort to
highlight the state-of-the-art and discuss the issues and opportunities to
explore new research directions and develop new ideas. We strongly welcome
submissions that include results which advance the state of the art
relating to the theme of the symposium, either through theoretical
analysis or experimental analysis. The main topics to be addressed include
(but not limited to):
- Architectures for Web and mobile information services
