P E S O S 2 0 1 0 -- The Second International Workshop on
Principles of Engineering Service-Oriented Systems
Cape Town, South Africa, May 1-2 (tentative), 2010
In Conjunction with the 32nd ACM/IEEE International Conference
on Software Engineering (ICSE 2010)
Submission: January 11, 2010
Notification: February 20, 2010
------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.s-cube-network.eu/PESOS
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Service-oriented systems represent a new class of software systems, in
which software is being used and integrated as temporary services rather
than being 'physically' integrated and owned permanently by the software
user. Those services are loosely-coupled, autonomous software entities
owned by third parties and representing different functionality, which
can be combined to support dynamic business processes. Thereby, service-
oriented systems provide a more flexible approach to software develop-
ment, provisioning and maintenance, allowing addressing the dynamics of
a system's environment and continuously evolving requirements.
Service-oriented systems have attracted great interest from industry and
research communities worldwide. Service integrators, developers, and
providers are collaborating to address the various challenges in the
field.
PESOS 2010 is intended to provide a forum for presenting and discussing
a wide range of topics related to service-oriented systems. The aim of
PESOS is to bring together researchers from academia and industry, as
well as practitioners working in the areas of software engineering and
service-oriented systems to discuss research challenges, recent develop-
ments, novel applications, as well as methods, techniques, experiences,
and tools to support the engineering and use of service-oriented systems.
The workshop seeks contributions that address theoretical foundations,
practical techniques, empirical studies, experience, and lessons learned
related to service-oriented systems.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

PESOS 2010 in Cape Town: May 1-2, 2010 (tentative)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topics
------------------------------------------------------------------------
PESOS 2010 will place special emphasis on understanding user-centric
aspects, i.e., all the aspects related to the participation of human
actors during the specification, design, implementation, verification,
validation, deployment, and operation of service-oriented systems.
This includes contributions that discuss what activities can be auto-
mated (e.g., replacing human intervention) and for which activities
user interaction and involvement will remain key.
The workshop seeks contributions addressing, but not limited to, the
following topics:
* Service-oriented software system life-cycle
* Specification of service-oriented systems
* Requirements for service-oriented systems
* Design and architecture of service-oriented systems
* Verification, validation, and testing of services and
service-oriented systems

* Service-oriented business process integration and management
* Service personalization and context-aware provisioning
* Service dependability, survivability, and reliability
* Trust, security, and privacy in service-oriented systems
* Quality of service
* Service visualization and re-factorization
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Submissions
------------------------------------------------------------------------
All contributions will be reviewed and evaluated based on originality,
technical quality and relevance to the workshop theme. Besides research
papers, experience papers and practical reports on industrial case
studies are particularly welcome.

Second Call for Papers
News:
- New Program Committee Members
- Call for Workshop Proposals
- Call for Tutorial Proposals
- Call for Graduate Symposium Submissions
****************************************************************
Diagrams is an international and interdisciplinary conference series,
covering all aspects of research on the theory and application of
diagrams.
Recent advances in technology have enabled the use of diagrams, sketches
and other visualizations to become an integral part of our lives. For
effective communication with these novel and sophisticated visual
representations, we need insight into how diagrams are used, how they are
represented, which types are available and when it is appropriate to use
them. These concerns have triggered a surge of interest in the study of
diagrammatic notations for communication, cognition, creative thought,
computation and problem-solving.
The study of diagrammatic notations and their use must be pursued as an
interdisciplinary endeavour. Diagrams is the only conference series that
provides a united forum for all areas that are concerned with the study of
diagrams: for example, architecture, artificial intelligence, cartography,
cognitive science, computer science, education, graphic design, history of
science, human-computer interaction, linguistics, logic, mathematics,
philosophy, psychology, and software modelling.
Diagrams 2010 is the sixth event in this conference series, which was
launched in Edinburgh in 2000. Diagrams attracts a large number of
researchers from virtually all related fields mentioned, placing the
conference as a major international event in the area.
Diagrams 2010 will be co-located with the 32nd Annual Meeting of the
Cognitive Science Society (Cogsci-2010). This co-location will provide a
lively and stimulating environment, enabling researchers from related
communities to exchange ideas and more widely disseminate research
results.
Diagrams 2010 will consist of sessions including presentations of refereed
papers, posters, and also tutorial and workshop sessions. For the first
time in history of Diagrams we will organize workshops and postgraduate
student sessions. We invite submissions of:
- long research papers (15 pages)
- short research papers (7 pages)
- posters (3 pages)
- tutorial proposals (2 pages; see the conference web page for full
details)
- workshop proposals (2 pages; see the conference web page for full
details)
- graduate symposium submissions (3 pages; see the conference web page for
full details)
that focus on any aspect of diagrams research. Long papers should present
original research results. Short papers and posters should present
original research contributions, position or problem statements, summarize
software to support the use of diagrams, or integrate results published
elsewhere which are of interest to the Diagrams community.
All submissions will be fully peer reviewed. The proceedings, which will
include accepted long and short papers and posters, will be published by
Springer in their Lecture Notes in Computer Science series,
http://www.springer.com/lncs.
Full details on the preparation of submissions can be found on the
conference web site
http://www.diagrams-conference.org/2010/content/submission
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- applications of diagrams
- computational models of reasoning with, and interpretation of, diagrams

Computing systems are rapidly changing with multicore, GPUs, clusters, volunteer
systems, clouds, and grids offering a confusing dazzling array of opportunities.
New programming paradigms such as MapReduce and Many Task Computing have joined
the traditional repertoire of workflow and parallel computing for the highest
performance systems. Meanwhile the Life Sciences are continuing to expand in
data generated with continuing improvement in the instruments for high
throughput analysis. This “fourth paradigm” (observationally driven science) is
joined by complex systems or biocomplexity that can build phenomenological
models of biological systems and processes. This workshop juxtaposes these
trends seeking those computational methods that will enhance scientific discovery.
The purpose of this the workshop is to provide the opportunity for researchers,
scientists, engineers, and students to discuss and share the latest research in
parallel and distributed high performance systems applied to Life Science
problems. It aims to offer an interactive environment for investigators working
on novel “computational thinking” for (Systems) Biology, Bioinformatics,
Biocomplexity and Cheminformatics, so that future activities and collaborations
will be initiated, as well as fostering discussions about the utilization of
HPDC systems in their respective research initiatives. Selected papers will be

Multi- and many-core microprocessors are being deployed in a broad
spectrum of applications including Clusters, Clouds and Grids. Both
conventional multi- and many-core processors, such as Intel Nehalem and
IBM Power7 processors, and unconventional many-core processors, such as
NVIDIA Tesla and AMD FireStream GPUs, hold the promise of increasing
performance through parallelism. However, GPU approaches in parallelism
are distinctly different from those of conventional multi- and many-core
processors, which raises new challenges: For example, how do we optimize
applications for conventional multi- and many-core processors? How do we
reengineer applications to take advantage of GPUs’ tremendous computing
power in a reasonable cost-benefit ratio? What are effective ways of
using GPUs as accelerators? The goals of this workshop are to discuss
these and other issues and bring together developers of application
algorithms and experts in utilizing multi- and many-core processors.
Selected papers will be published in a special issue of the Journal
Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience.
Topics of interests include (but not limited to)
* programming languages and models
* innovative algorithms
* data-intensive applications
* optimization and debugging tools
* Clouds, Grids and Clusters of many-core processors
* system software
* compiler technologies
* runtime systems
* operating systems
* workload characterization
* performance modeling and evaluation
* homogenous and heterogeneous many-core architectures
* many-core as accelerators
* interconnection networks
* many-core embedded systems
