____________________________________________________________
Since 1994, when the first RefsQ took place, Requirements Engineering (RE)
continued to be a dominant factor influencing the quality of software,
systems and services. The RefsQ working conference series has now
established itself as one of the leading international forums to discuss
RE in its (many) relations to quality.
RefsQ09 seeks reports of novel ideas and techniques that enhance the
quality of REs products and processes, as well as reflections on current
research and industrial RE practices.
In the past, REFSQ has been organised in conjunction with other
conferences, mainly the International Conference for Advanced Information
Systems Engineering (CAiSE). For the first time, REFSQ will in 2010 be a
stand-alone conference.
WORKING CONFERENCE FORMAT
RefsQ has a long tradition of being a highly structured and interactive
forum. Each session is organised in order to provoke discussion among the
presenters of papers, pre-assigned discussants and all the other
participants.
Scope
We invite submissions on any aspect of RE. We encourage researchers and
practitioners from the RE, software engineering, information systems,
service science and embedded systems fields to present original work.
Contributions from related areas such as formal methods, systems
engineering, human computer interaction, economics, management and social
sciences are very welcome for the insights they provide in RE.
CALL FOR PAPERS
We invite original submissions in various categories:
Full research papers (up to 15 pages), including solution papers,
empirical studies, surveys, and comparative studies,
Experience reports (up to 15 pages), describing positive and negative
experiences,
Vision papers (up to 6 pages) stating where the research in the fi eld
should be heading towards,
Problem statements (up to 6 pages) describing open issues of pratical or
theorectical nature,
Research previews (up to 6 pages) reporting on research results at a
premature stage.
Posters (1 page) describing ongoing work. N.B. Posters will be published
in the proceedings.
See http://www.refsq.org for detailed instructions to authors about
format, evaluation criteria and submission procedure.
CALL FOR WORKSHOPS
This year we invite proposals for workshops to be held in conjunction with
the conference, related to the RefsQ topics. Contact the workshop chair
for more information about submission of proposals.
PUBLICATION
The proceedings will be published in Springers Lecture Notes in Computer

Call for Papers
Special Issue of the Empirical Software Engineering Journal
'Empirical Studies in Software Architecture: Opportunities, Approaches,
and Challenges'
http://www.lmsa-community.org/wikis/index.php/ESE-SA
---------------------------------
Guest Editors
M. Ali Babar, Lero, Ireland.
Patricia Lago, VU University Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Arie van Deursen, Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands.
----------------------------------
Important dates
Deadline for submission: 30 November 2009
Date of notification to authors (first round): 15 February 2010
Proposed date of publication: Tentatively in Summer 2010
----------------------------------
Context and Theme
In recent years, the software architecture community (i.e., researchers
and practitioners) has developed many methods, techniques, and tools to
support software architecture design, documentation, and evaluation
activities. However, apart from a few exceptions, there has been little
effort to gather and use empirical evidence to support the claims of
efficacy or capabilities of different methods and techniques developed for
supporting the software architecture process. The aim of this special
issue is to provide an authoritative reference on systematically selecting
and rigorously applying suitable empirical methods for evaluating methods,
techniques, and tools developed for supporting the software architecture
process.
This issue is particularly interested in carefully designed and rigorously
conducted empirical studies to demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses of
different methods, techniques, tools (e.g., ADLs, design methods, analysis
tools) developed to support the software architecture process (i.e.,
design, description, and evaluation). The editors of this special issue
have made available some example papers and relevant guidelines published
in software engineering literature at
http://www.lmsa-community.org/wikis/index.php/ESE-SA . Although not
mandatory, we strongly encourage the authors interested in submitting
their work to carefully examine these papers and give full considerations
to the guidelines papers while preparing their manuscripts for this
special issue.
Articles on the following topics are of interest. In all cases
appropriateness of the empirical research design and reliability and
validity of the achieved results should be emphasized:
Empirical analysis of the benefits and limitations of different
architecture design methods
Empirical comparisons of different Architectural Description Languages
(ADLs) and architectural modeling tools
Empirical analyses of contemporary and emerging approaches to
architecting (e.g., aspect-oriented, model-driven, and service-oriented)
Empirical studies illustrating benefits and limitations of technologies
for architectural knowledge and rationale management
Empirical studies aimed at clarifying the misconceptions and false hopes
of applying architectural styles and patterns
Experience reports or empirical case studies, particularly those that
demonstrate the scope and limitations of architecture design, description,
and evaluation approaches.
o Papers describing the failures in using certain approaches will be of
as much interest as the papers of success stories.
Empirical studies describing the social, organizational, and economic
aspects of institutionalizing architectural practices
Survey papers that present either the state-of-the-art or the
state-of-the-practice to examine and compare past results in this area,
particularly survey papers focusing on limitations. Particular
interest will be paid to surveys using published results to assess the
strength of evidence provided and illustrate the limitations of the
studied approaches.
--------------------------------
Submission guidelines
All manuscripts should be compliant with the journal's submission
guidelines, which can be accessed by visiting journal's website
(http://www.springer.com/computer/programming/journal/10664 ) and must not
have been published previously or be currently under consideration for
publication in any other journals or conferences. Significant extensions
to substantive papers published in conferences are also welcome, provided
that the editors are made aware of the previous publications.
The paper submissions via the online submission system at
http://www.editorialmanager.com/emse/

CAISE 2010
CALL FOR PAPERS
22nd International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering
(CAiSE'08)
Evolving Information Systems
JUNE 7-11, 2010, Hammamet, Tunisia
Papers submission deadline: November 30, 2009
http://www.caise2010.rnu.tn
SCOPE AND TOPICS:
This year's special theme is "Evolving information systems".
Modern information systems are the result of the interconnection of
systems of many organizations, are running in variable contexts, and
require both a lightweight approach to interoperability and the capability
to actively react to changing requirements and failures. In addition,
users of information systems are becoming more and more mobile and
ubiquitous, requiring the system to adapt to their varying usage contexts
and goals.
The evolution of an information system should be a continuous process
rather than a single step, and it should be inherently supported by the
system itself and the design of the information system should consider
evolution as an inherent property of the system.
The special events and invited speakers of CAiSE '2010 will shed light on
this theme from various perspectives.
Goal: CAiSE'2010 aims to bring together researchers and practitioners in
the field of information systems engineering. CAiSE'2010 invites
submissions on the design, development, maintenance, and usage of
information systems - and especially submissions dealing with evolving
information systems.
Topics of interests include, but are not restricted to:
Methodologies and approaches for IS engineering
- Enterprise architecture and enterprise modelling
- Requirements engineering
- Business process modelling and management
- Simulation
- Model, component, and software reuse
- IS reengineering
- IS engineering approaches for adaptive and flexible information systems
- Service science
- Knowledge patterns and ontologies for IS engineering
- IS in networked & virtual organizations
- Method engineering
Innovative platforms, architectures and technologies for IS engineering
- Service-oriented architecture
- Model-driven architecture
- Component based development
- Agent architecture
- Distributed, mobile, and open architecture
- Innovative database technology
- Semantic web
- IS and ubiquitous technologies
- Adaptive and context-aware IS
Engineering of specific kinds of IS:
- eGovernment
- Enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, CRM)
- Data warehousing
- Workflow systems
- Knowledge management systems
- Content management systems
Quality concerns in IS engineering
- Knowledge, information, and data quality
- Quality of models and their languages
- Usability, security, trust, flexibility, interoperability
IMPORTANT DATES:
Papers submission deadline: NOVEMBER 30, 2009
Notification of acceptance: February 18, 2010
CAISE 2010 Conference & Workshops: June 7-11, 2010
TYPES OF CONTRIBUTIONS:
We invite four types of original and scientific papers:
o Formal and/or technical papers describe original solutions (theoretical,
methodological or conceptual) in the field of IS engineering. A technical
paper should clearly describe the situation or problem tackled, the
relevant state of the art, the position or solution suggested and the
potential - or, even better, the evaluated - benefits of the contribution.
o Empirical evaluation papers evaluate existing problem situations or
validate proposed solutions with scientific means, i.e. by empirical
studies, experiments, case studies, simulations, formal analyses,
mathematical proofs, etc. Scientific reflection on problems and practices
in industry also falls into this category. The topic of the evaluation
presented in the paper as well as its causal or logical properties must be
clearly stated. The research method must be sound and appropriate.
o Experience papers present problems or challenges encountered in
practice, relate success and failure stories, or report on industrial
practice. The focus is on 'what' and on lessons learned, not on an
in-depth analysis of 'why'. The practice must be clearly described and its
context must be given. Readers should be able to draw conclusions for
their own practice.
o Exploratory Papers can describe completely new research positions or
approaches, in order to face to a generic situation arising because of new
ICT tools or new kinds of activities or new IS challenges. They must
describe precisely the situation and demonstrate how current methods,
tools, ways of reasoning, or meta-models are inadequate. They must
rigorously present their approach and demonstrate its pertinence and
correctness to addressing the identified situation.
SUBMISSION CONDITIONS:
Papers should be submitted in PDF format. The results described must be
unpublished and must not be under review elsewhere. Submissions must
conform to Springer's LNCS format and should not exceed 15 pages,
including all text, figures, references and appendices. Submissions not
conforming to the LNCS format, exceeding 15 pages, or being obviously out
of the scope of the conference, will be rejected without review.
Information about the Springer LNCS format can be found at
http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html. Three to five keywords
characterising the paper should be indicated at the end of the abstract.
The type of paper (technical/empirical evaluation/experience/exploratory
paper) should be indicated in the submission.
PUBLICATION:
Accepted papers will be presented at CAiSE'2010 and published in the
conference proceedings, which is published in the Springer Lecture Notes
in Computer Science (LNCS).

Technical Tracks
============
Hypertext 2010 will consist of three autonomous tracks, each with its own program committee and reviewing team.
Track 1 - Social Computing
----------------------------------------
Chair: Anabel Quan-Haase, University of Western Ontario
This track invites papers investigating social processes and practices in Hypermedia and Web 2.0 environments. These include tagging, filtering, voting, editing, trusting, and rating. These social processes result in many types of links between texts, users, concepts, pages, etc. We want to better understand the processes and practices themselves as well as the social, political, and semantic networks that result from these processes over time. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Social information diffusion
Social linking
Social and collaborative annotation
Social knowledge and information representation Social networking technologies (e.g., Facebook, YouTube and Twitter) Mapping and visualization of social spaces and networks Linking virtual networks and offline networks Time analysis of social, information, and semantic networks Critical mass and incentives of social participation (e.g. games) Automatic and user-based evaluation
Track 2 - Adaptive Hypermedia and Applications
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Chair: Richard Kopak, University of British Columbia
The Adaptive Hypermedia and Applications track invites papers reporting on theoretical, empirical, and methodological studies on adaptive hypermedia, including the application of adaptive hypermedia in varying domains and contexts. The scope of the Adaptive Hypermedia and Applications Track includes all forms of Web and Hypermedia system generated personalization, including user modeling, recommender
systems, and e-learning. Topics may include, but are not limited to:
Adaptive presentation of hypermedia content Adaptive navigation (link hiding, dynamic maps) Adaptivity and the semantic Web Algorithms and methods in explicit recommender systems Comparison of effectiveness of implicit and explicit recommender systems User modeling Evaluation and usability of adaptive systems Personalized e-learning Personalized digital libraries
Track 3 - Hypertext in Education and Communication
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Co-Chairs: Mark Bernstein, Eastgate Systems, Inc., David Millard, University of Southampton, UK
Hypertext tools are indispensable for e-learning and m-learning, and teaching. Hypertext as a discipline in its own right -- including literary fiction, new scholarship and digital media -- plays a growing role in education. This track targets hypertext as both a tool and a discipline, as well as focusing on the use of spatial hypertext and Web 2.0 applications such as blogs, wikis and e-portfolios. We hope to highlight our understanding of links as a new component of writing and communication, and to increase our understanding of the ways that they are used in education, research, journalism, and literature. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
blogs and wikis in teaching and learning collaborative e-learning non-linear writing and interactive fiction communication theory and the web concept maps and knowledge structures digital narratives open educational resources personal learning and research tools hypertext literature and art e-journalism digital aesthetics and cyber culture
Types of Submission
===============
The Conference welcomes the following types of submissions
Papers: Papers must report new results substantiated by experimentation, simulation, analysis, or application. Authors are invited to submit papers presenting original, not previously published works. Submission categories include:
- regular research papers (max 10 pages) discussing mature work, and
- short papers (max 5 pages) describing preliminary results of on-going work or novel thought-provoking ideas.
Posters and Demos: Technical demonstration of new tools and innovative applications of hypertext are solicited, as well as research at a preliminary stage. Submissions may include:
Posters (max 2 pages) offer researchers a unique opportunity to present late-breaking results, significant work in progress, or research that is best communicated in an interactive or graphical format. Poster submissions are welcomed in areas related to any of the three tracks. Please note, however, that posters describing work at the proposal stage will not be accepted.
Demos (max 1 page) should describe the system and include a list of any required supporting equipment. We assume that most equipment will be supplied by the demonstrator. Poster and demos presentations further provide researchers with an opportunity to obtain direct feedback about their work from a wide audience during the poster session.
Workshops: Workshops will be held on the first day of the conference, Sunday, June 14th. Paper sessions will begin on Monday June 15. The purpose of the workshops is to provide a more informal setting for the exchange of ideas on a focused topic and suggest directions for future research. As such, they also offer a good opportunity for researchers to present their work and to obtain feedback from an interested community. Acceptance of workshop proposals will be based on the organizer's experience and background in the topic, and on the relevance of the subject matter. See the Track descriptions for ideas.
Formating and Submission
====================
All submissions should be formatted according to the official ACM SIG proceedings template and submitted via EasyChair. Accepted papers will appear in the Hypertext 2010 Conference Proceedings and will also be available through the ACM Digital Library.
