IEEE JOINT CONFERENCE ON REQUIREMENTS ENGINEERING
sponsored by:
IEEE Computer Society, Univ. Essen, CRP Henri Tudor,
Promatis AG
in cooperation with:
ACM Sigsoft, GI, IFIP WG 2.9, INCOSE, RESG (BCS),
Requirements Engineering Journal, Univ. Namur
Requirements Engineering (RE) is the branch of systems engineering
concerned with the real-world goals for, functions of, and constraints
on software-intensive systems. It is also concerned with how these
factors are taken into account during the implementation and
maintenance of the system, from software specifications and
architectures up to final test cases. RE requires a variety and
richness of skills, processes, methods, techniques and tools. In
addition,
diversity arises from different application domains ranging
from business information systems to real-time process control systems,
from traditional to web-based systems as well as from the perspective
being
system families or not.
Topics of submissions may include, but are not limited to:
* domain specific requirements engineering
* prioritising and agreeing on requirements
* business case, case studies and experience reports
* requirements evolution
* requirements driven change management
* requirements engineering education
* application and extensions of UML
* tool support for RE, including light weight and web-based tools
* goal, scenario and model-based RE
* prototyping, animation and simulation
* handling of quality requirements
* interplay of requirements and architecture
* detection of requirements violations/contradictions
* requirements engineering for product families
* requirements management and traceability
* requirements elicitation techniques
* cognitive, social, political and cultural factors in RE
* linking business and technical requirements
To increase industrial contributions and to provide a forum for
exchanging practical experience and problems as well as research results
we invite four types of contributions:
- experience papers (including case reports, success and failure
stories
and empirical studies) must clearly present lessons learned that are
of
interest and benefit to a broad audience of researchers and
practitioners. They should not exceed 8 proceedings pages.
- research papers must clearly present an original contribution to the
state-of-the-art or practice. Research papers should not exceed 8
proceedings pages.
- vision papers should state industrial challenges or future research
plans and directions and should provoke discussions. They will
undergo a separate review process. Vision papers should not
exceed 4 proceedings pages.
- industrial presentations about experiences and problem statements.
Submissions in this category should include a one page abstract and a
presentation outline not exceeding four pages. The abstract of
accepted
presentations will be published in the proceedings. The talk outline
and/or slides will be published in a separate proceeding.
SUBMISSION INFORMATION
Paper submissions will be reviewed by the PC for significance,
soundness, and quality of presentation. Research and experience papers
exceeding 10 pages will be rejected without review. For research and
vision papers, specific attention will be paid to originality. All
submissions must describe work that has not been submitted to or
presented at another forum. Revised versions of a selection of best
papers will appear , depending on focus, in a special issue of
Requirements Engineering Journal or IEEE Software.
Electronic submissions will be accepted at the symposium website
starting one month before the deadline. Authors without web access must
make advance arrangements with the Program Chair at least two weeks
before the deadline. Papers submissions must not exceed the specified
number of pages, and must be in IEEE CS Press format (see

From: Manuel Mora <mmorauaamx(a)visto.com>
To: ISWORLD(a)LISTSERV.HEANET.IE
Dear colleagues interested in the topic of Decision-Making:
We have extended the deadlines to receive 4-page abstracts and to receive the
full papers for the CFP presented below. This extension will enable us to
gather more papers and eventually to offer our academic community higher
quality material for this special issue.
We believe that research in advanced IT has many Computer Sciences based
forums, but we also believe there are possible forums in which Information
Systems, Operations Research, Management Science and Systems Approach can be
shared. For this reason, we invite submissions from these different
approaches to this CFP. In particular, we encourage studies that present
scientific evidence demonstrating how advanced IT is, or can be, used to
enhance the Decision Making process.
Thanks for your interest in the CFP presented below, and apologizes for
multiple postings. Sincerely.
G. Forgionne, Information Systems Department, UMBC
J. Gupta, Department of Management, BSU

March 31, 2002 : Review process due.
April 15, 2002 : Notification of acceptance/rejection.
June 30, 2002 : Camera-ready version due.
Publication date : Late 2002.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
THEME JUSTIFICATION:
IS/IT field has a rich set of research streams. One of these, Decision
Making Support Systems (DMSS), it has focused in doing research about how
IS/IT can be deployed to support all the phases of decision making
process. Despite this field has around 30 years old, new research
threads have emerged in the last years.
This issue addresses the state of the art of DMSS because these require a
variety of advanced IS/IT to enhance the design, development, utilization,
and evaluation processes. These advanced IT's include, among many others:
machine learning, fuzzy logic, virtual reality, genetic algorithms,
case-based reasoning,intelligent agents, logic programming, data mining,
neural networks, knowledge-based simulation and human computer interfaces.
Therefore, we are developing a Special Issue of the Journal of Decision
Systems with articles devoted to the following main research questions:
(a) how can advanced IT enhance DMSS ?;
(b) how can advanced IT affect the process of DMSS design,
implementation and evaluation?; and
(c) how can advanced IT be integrated in DMSS to modify organizational
structures and management practice?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
ISSUE MISSION AND AIMS:
This Special Issue's mission is to present state of the art on applied DMSS
integrating new IT. The main aims of this special issue are:
(1) to generate a compendium of quality applied papers on advanced IT in
DMSS, (2) to help diffuse scarce knowledge about effective methods and
strategies for successfully designing, developing, implementing, and
evaluating DMSS that integrate advanced IT, and
(3) to create an awareness among academicians and practitioners about the
relevance of DMSS in the current complex and dynamic management environment.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
TOPICS SOUGHT:
Papers are solicited that contribute in these aims. Potential topics include,
but are not limited to:
(1) Cases of DMSS that integrate advanced IT in business, commerce (including
e-commerce), government, health care, banking, military, manufacturing, etc.
(2) Strategies that promote the design, development, and implementation of
successful DMSS that integrate advanced IT, (3) Methodologies for
integrating advanced IT in data, knowledge, model, dialog, and feedback
management , (4) Studies that compare the effectiveness of advanced IT in
DMSS versus other traditional IT, and (5) Studies related with the effects
of DMSS that integrate advanced IT, on organizational structure and
management practice.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTRUCTIONS:
The suggested length for each manuscript will 20-25 double-spaced typed
pages, including graphs, tables, figures, and references. Original papers
should be written to conform with the Journal of Decision Systems style
guidelines document, which is available upon request. Papers will be
evaluated using a double blind peer-review process. A 4-page abstract is
requested before or on December 15, 2001. Please send all submissions
electronically to: forgionn(a)umbc.edu with copy to editors.dmss.jds(a)visto.com

G'day
The following is posted on behalf of J. David Hunger <jdhunger(a)iastate.edu>,
program chair for
NORTH AMERICAN CASE RESEARCH ASSOCIATION (NACRA)
2002 CALL FOR CASES / PAPERS / SYMPOSIA
The North American Case Research Association (NACRA) will hold its 2002
meeting at The Banff Conference Centre in Banff, Alberta, Canada, from
Thursday, October 3 through Saturday, October 5, 2002. Banff is 78 miles
west of Calgary (and only an hour away from beautiful Lake Louise) in the
Canadian Rockies.
NACRA is a collaborative organization of approximately 450 case writers and
teachers, mostly in the business disciplines, who support each other¬s
research and writing efforts. NACRA¬s annual conference features roundtable
discussions where all participants receive knowledgeable suggestions about
their cases in a constructive atmosphere. The goal of these workshops is to
help authors develop their cases for use in the classroom and for
publication in refereed journals, such as NACRA¬s Case Research Journal,
and/or textbooks. Cases, case-related papers, and proposals are invited
from all fields that use cases as part of their teaching methodologies,
including business, education, hospitality/tourism, and health care.
Cases may deal with any topic in any academic discipline where dynamic
classroom discussion is useful. NACRA prefers cases that are
decision-oriented and based on field research. Cases and case-related papers
must be original work based on real events, real people, and real
organizations, and must not have been previously published or accepted for
publication elsewhere, either in journals or books.
The conference also offers a workshop on case writing and teaching for
faculty and graduate students who wish to learn more about these areas.
This is an opportunity for people who have never written a case to learn
more about this process. A person new to case research may also submit a
proposal for a case study to a special case development track.
The submission deadline is June 3, 2002. Detailed instructions for
submissions are available on the NACRA web site: www.nacra.net
