Description
-----------
Over the last two decades Machine Learning (ML) has made incredible
advancements showing to be very effective in solving specific tasks and
robust in many experimental learning applications. Deep learning,
statistical (relational) learning, reinforcement learning and
(logic-based and/or probabilistic) learning are among the many ML
approaches that are witnessing such advancements. On the other hand,
Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KR) has continued to be at the
core of Artificial Intelligence (AI) research providing solutions for
explicit declarative representation of knowledge and knowledge-based
inference, which have theoretical and practical relevance in many
aspects of AI as well as in new emerging fields outside AI. The synergy
between these two areas of AI has the potential to unlock new
advancements on foundations of AI that offer new insights into open
fundamental challenges included, but not limited to, learning symbolic
generalisations from raw (multi-modal) data, using knowledge to
facilitate data-efficient learning, supporting interpretability of
learned outcomes, federated multi-agent learning and decision making.
This year, for the first time, KR2020 will host a special session on
"Knowledge Representation and Machine Learning". This special session
aims at providing researchers and industrial practitioners with a
dedicated forum for presentation and discussion of new ideas, research
experience and emerging results on topics related to computational
learning and symbolic knowledge representation and reasoning. This
special session provides the opportunity for fostering meaningful
connections between researchers from these two main areas of AI and, at
the same time, offering the possibility to learn about progress made on
these topics, share their own views and learn about approaches that
could lead to effective cross-fertilisation among research in ML and KR
and new innovative solutions to key AI research challenges.
----------------------
Expected contributions
----------------------
The Special Session on KR and ML at KR2020 invites submissions of papers
across KR and ML on advancements in one of these areas for the purpose
of addressing open research challenges in the other, integration of
computational learning and knowledge representation and reasoning, and
the application of combined KR and ML approaches to solve real-world
problems, including case studies and benchmarks.
We welcome papers on a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:
-- Learning ontologies and knowledge graphs
-- Learning action theories
-- Learning common-sense knowledge
-- Learning spatial and temporal theories
-- Learning preference models
-- Learning causal models
-- Learning tractable probabilistic models
-- Probabilistic reasoning and learning
-- Graphical models for knowledge representation and reasoning
-- Reasoning and learning over knowledge graphs
-- Logic-based learning algorithms

---------------------------------------------
Submission Guidelines and Evaluation Criteria
---------------------------------------------
The special session emphasizes KR and ML, and welcomes contributions
that extend the state of the art at the intersection of KR and ML.
Therefore, KR-only or ML-only submissions will not be accepted for
evaluation in this special session.
Submissions will be rigorously peer reviewed by PC members, who are
active in KR and ML. Submissions will be evaluated on the basis of the
overall quality of their technical contribution, including criteria such
as originality, soundness, relevance, significance, quality of
presentation, and understanding of the state of the art.
In this special session, the selection process of the highest quality
papers will apply the following criteria:
* Importance and novelty of using knowledge representation and reasoning
to advance machine learning, or novelty of using machine learning
solutions to advance knowledge representation and reasoning.
* Applicability of the proposed solutions in real-world.
* Reusability of datasets, case studies and benchmarks for systems
and/or application papers.
* Proved theoretical or empirically demonstrated practical advancement
of the proposed solution with respect to baseline pure KR or ML approaches.

In the era of Digitalization, new technologies (Internet of Things,
Augmented reality, Cyber-Physical Systems, Cloud Computing, and so on)
change not only enterprises and organizations functioning, but also all
aspects of human life: robots assisted disabled people, smart buildings,
digital enhanced visits for heritage, serious games for learning… the
list is long. These various technologies are intended to improve or
enhance life of humans. In one way or another, they contribute to a
smarter life.
Until now, digital technologies have been brought into the game as silo
solutions. Reasoning holistically about information in the context of a
bank or a manufacturing plant is routine practice. However, it is less
common with emerging technologies for everyday life public digital
application. We deeply believe that methods, models and techniques
inherited from IS engineering research could considerably improve the
way human interact with the digital world and would change the user
experience.
The goal of the workshop is to bring together researchers and
practitioners who are interested in the application of disruptive
technologies to Smarter Life. The workshop topics include, but are not
limited to, the application and emerging concepts of rising digital
technologies to different fields of life through the perspective of
information systems:
·Cultural Heritage,
·Traditional and Urban Farming,
·Patient Experience Design and Health,
·Sustainable Development
·Digital Education and Teaching Experience Design for World Wide Audience,
·Smart Home/ Smart Buildings and so on.
As this holistic approach mixing human life and digital systems is a
challenge for the 21st century and the society we are building, we are
also inviting contributions about:
·Societal Applications of Robots,
·Serious Games and User Experience,
·Performance Augmentation for Individuals and Groups,
·Social Networks for Smarter Life,
·Sustainable Artificial Intelligence,
·Ethical and Philosophical Aspects of New Technologies Usage with Humans.
We invite both research and practice-oriented papers focused on
digitalization of various aspects of life.
*Submission:*
The length of the paper should not exceed 12 pages (including all text,
figures, references and appendices) for full papers, or 6 pages for
short papers.
Authors should consult Springer’s authors’ guidelines

use their proceedings templates, either for LaTeX
<ftp://ftp.springernature.com/cs-proceeding/llncs/llncs2e.zip>or for
Word
<ftp://ftp.springernature.com/cs-proceeding/llncs/word/splnproc1703.zip>,
for the preparation of their papers. Springer encourages authors to
include their ORCIDs <https://goo.gl/hbsa4D>in their papers. In
addition, the corresponding author of each paper, acting on behalf of

KR Doctoral Consortium Call for Applications
September 12-18, 2020
Rhodes, Greece
https://kr2020.inf.unibz.it/
The 17th International Conference on Principles of Knowledge
Representation and Reasoning (KR 2020) invites PhD students to apply for
the Doctoral Consortium program.
1) AIMS AND SCOPE
The Doctoral Consortium (DC) is a student mentoring program bringing
together PhD students and senior researchers from the area of KR. The
aims of the consortium are:
* to provide a forum for students to present their current research, and
receive feedback from other students and senior researchers;
* to promote contacts among PhD students working in similar areas;
* to support students with information and advice on academic, research,
and industrial careers.
The DC is intended for PhD students who have a specific research
proposal and some preliminary results, but who have sufficient time
prior to completing their dissertation to benefit from the consortium
experience. Preference will be given to students satisfying these
criteria, but well-motivated applications from students who are at
earlier or later stages of their doctoral studies will still be considered.
For accepted students there will be a row of dedicated events, including
DC invited talks on research practice, a lightning talk session, a
poster session, and a mentoring lunch. Each student will be given ample
time to present their work and therefore be able to fully benefit from
direct feedback from the assigned senior researcher mentor and the wider
KR conference audience.
2) APPLICATION SUBMISSION
Applications must be submitted by email. Each application must contain
the following elements combined into a single PDF document.:
(1) Thesis summary. A description of the problem being addressed, your
motivation for addressing the problem, proposed plan of research, the
progress to date (what you have already achieved and what remains to be
done), and related work. It must be four pages maximum in AAAI style
(http://www.aaai.org/Publications/Author/author.php).
(2) Curriculum Vitae. A description of your background and relevant
experience (research, education, employment), of two pages maximum.

Subject: [AISWorld] CFP: JMWAIS Special Issue on Information Security
and Privacy - The Challenge of New Technologies
Date: Thu, 9 Jan 2020 15:48:19 +0000
From: Biros, David <david.biros(a)okstate.edu>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
CALL FOR PAPERS - SPECIAL ISSUE JOURNAL OF THE MIDWEST ASSOCIATION FOR
INFORMATION SYSTEMS (JMWAIS)
THEME: INFORMATION SECURITY AND PRIVACY - THE CHALLENGE OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES
Description:
The recent proliferation of new information technologies such as
artificial intelligence/machine learning, the Internet of Things (IoT),
cryptocurrencies, blockchain and cloud storage and computing have
created new challenges for advocates of information security and
privacy. Traditional controls such as demilitarized zones, intrusion
detection systems, patch management systems, and firewalls may not be
sufficient to protect data, systems, and privacy. Existing research
extolls the benefits of these new technologies in a variety of scenarios
and contexts. Smart home automation can be beneficial to the handicapped
and elderly. Home security camera can protect property and belongings,
and have even been used to help law enforcement solve crimes. Wearable
technologies like smart watches with ECG technology can warn users when
a serious health issue may be present. Other new technologies like
cryptocurrencies (e.g. Bitcoin) and cloud computing promise new
opportunities for business and commerce.
However, research to date has yet to consider the security and privacy
implications of these promising new technologies. For example, recent
news reports of major data breach in fitness-tracking apps (Dickey 2018)
and wearable devices data compromising the location of secret military
bases (Taylor 2018) underscore the security consequences and instigate a
lack of trust. It has been reported that an AI algorithm lead to the
erroneous firing of teachers (Thomas 2019). In another report, a company
AI human resource recruiting initiative concluded that all female
applicants were unacceptable for corporate leadership positions (Harrer
2018). In other cases, home security camera that are easy for users to
install are also easy for hackers to exploit. Along with the security
implications are the privacy issues. Wearables and other IoT devices
enable the collection of vast amounts of data involving millions of
people. Users need to understand these privacy implications in order to
make informed choices with respect to the devices used and configured.
This special issue calls for research papers that investigate the
information security and privacy challenges that accompany the new
generation of technologies.
We seek completed research papers in topics including but not limited to:
* Privacy and Security risks posed by home automation on personal data.
* Proliferation of security risks posed by home automation to organizations.
* Future of cyber-crime and cyber-terrorism in the age of ubiquitous
technologies.
* Privacy and Security risks posed by wearables on personal health
information.
* Policy considerations for new technologies such as IoT
* Privacy and Security risks posed by cryptocurrencies on financial
information.
* Policy considerations for cryptocurrencies.
* Implications of sharing economy on information privacy and security.
* Feasibility of expansion of existing security controls to IoT.
* Privacy and Security standards in IoT-enabled devices that contain
cameras and microphones.
* Ownership and Informed consent of information generated by IoT and
Ubiquitous technologies
* Security Implications of novel financial technologies (FinTech)
including mobile payments and blockchain.
* Security considerations for cloud computing and storage
* Cloud storage security configurations
* Legal and contractual issues in cloud storage
* Security implications when aggregating large data sets for analytics
* Public knowledge and perceptions of artificial intelligence
* Ethical issues of artificial intelligence and machine learning
* Risks and mitigation strategies for artificial intelligence and
machine learning
* Unintended consequence of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Dear Colleagues,
this is an invitation to submit a research paper to the NeGIS workshop
at CAiSE'20. I hope this can be of interest to you. You are kindly
invited to spread the information.
CALL FOR PAPERS
==========================================================
1st International Workshop on Next Generation Information Systems:
Modeling, Monitoring and Management in Cloud and Fog Computing (NeGIS 2020)
Co-located with CAiSE'20
June 9th 2020 Grenoble, France
==========================================================
SCOPE
======
The amount of data and services supported by Information Systems (ISs)
has increased exponentially during the last few years. To improve their
efficiency and reduce costs, modern organizations have been shifting
their services, with part of their ISs, to the Cloud. More recent
developments have shown an inversion towards decentralization and
distribution of applications and services in the huge pool of devices
and computing facilities available nearer to the customers. This shift
is due to the impact of Internet of Things, which is further increasing
the amount of data to be stored and computed. Fog Computing is the last
frontier for ISs, where data and services can be moved in the continuum
of resources between the cloud and the edge.
In this workshop, we aim to collect contributions investigating issues
related to the management of cloud and fog computing in modern
information systems with a focus, but not limited, on energy efficiency,
security, and privacy, their relations and trade-off with other
requirements such as response time and throughput. In doing so, we are
considering both the application components of the information system
with their complexity, as well as the management of the data used by
such applications. We also consider the impact of the human in the loop,
looking at how the awareness and the behaviors of users and designers in
socio-technical systems can affect the effective adoption of energy and
security policies.
Topics include but are not limited to:
- Modelling Cloud and Fog computing solutions for modern Information
Systems
- Monitoring and Managing Information Systems in Cloud and Fog Computing
- Models, methods, and tools for data management in Cloud and Fog Computing
- Energy-awareness and sustainability in Information Systems: metrics
and measurements
- Quality of Service, energy efficiency and security in Mobile Edge
Computing
- Methodologies and tools for energy efficiency and security compliance
in Cloud and Fog computing
- Adaptive approaches to manage energy consumption, QoS, and security of
applications and systems
- Energy and Security aware blockchain solutions
- Energy and security requirements in Information Systems and
Socio-Technical Systems
Energy and security behaviours in Socio-Technical Systems
Negis2020 will be co-located in Grenoble with the 32nd International
Conference on Advanced Information Systems (CAISE'20, 8-12 June 2020).

Subject: [AISWorld] Call for Papers: AMCIS 2020: Mini-track: Problems
in Financial Information Technology (PFIT ’20)
Date: Thu, 9 Jan 2020 17:08:29 +0000
From: Templeton, Gary <GTempleton(a)business.msstate.edu>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org (aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org)
<aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Track: Decision Sciences and Analytics (SIGDSA)
26th Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), Aug. 12-16, 2020
Salt Lake City, Utah
This mini-track solicits papers using methods to critically examine
issues hampering the emergence and understanding of financial
information technology (FIT) in research and practice. Authors are
encouraged to identify and investigate three specific problem areas in
finance that affect modern organizations: technology (“FinTech”),
analytics and messy data. What are the problems and solutions in these
areas? What can researchers do to move beyond the current state of
research and practice concerning these IS-relevant issues? In what ways
do specified problems impact important IS theories and streams, such as
the productivity paradox, IT business value, and information economics?
What are the pros and cons and comparative performance of any proposed
solutions? These are the types of questions that may be explored in this
mini-track.
We are particularly interested in completed or emerging research
addressing the conference theme, New Frontiers in Digital Convergence.
Therefore, we hold at a premium papers advancing our understanding of
organizations engaged in digital convergence for value creation. In
particular, we are interested in information technology firms since they
engage in digital convergence out of competitive necessity.
We encourage thought provoking papers utilizing the wealth of archival
data (e.g., Compustat and CRSP) accessible by many in the IS research
community. We especially value thought provoking papers pushing known
boundaries of the three mentioned FIT themes (FinTech, analytics and
messy data) in order to improve IS practice. For these reasons, we are
interested in high quality papers that illuminates and addresses the
effects of the following issues (among others) on modern organizations:
FinTech
* Finance-Technology alignment
* Resistance to change
* Barriers to innovation
* Systems scalability
* FinTech success
* Outsourcing FinTech
* Issues specific to FinTech firms
* Compliance management
* FinTech application frontiers
* Blockchain and cryptography
Financial Analytics
* Workflows
* Queries
* Data storage
* Analytical efficiency and economics
* Analytical skills
* Data security and privacy
* User-friendliness of big data
* Artificial intelligence and machine learning
* Big data analytics
* Analytical procedures
Messy Financial Data
* Non-normality
* Missing data
* Imputation
* Inflated frequencies
* Variables with low levels (i.e. binary)
* Outliers
* Negative denominators
* Measurement bias
* Illogical values
