CALL FOR PAPERS
2nd International Workshop on evidenced-based Technology Enhanced Learning
ebTEL 2013
Salamanca, Spain 22-24 May, 2013
http://ebtel.usal.es
co-located with the PAAMS 2013 Conference
================================================================
IMPORTANT DATES
Paper submission deadline: December 14, 2012
Acceptance notification: February 8, 2013
Final version submission: February 25, 2013
Conference dates: May 22-24, 2013
SCOPE
Research on Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) investigates how information and communication technologies can be designed in order to support pedagogical activities. The Evidence based Design (EBD) of a system bases its decisions on empirical evidence and effectiveness. The evidence-based TEL workshop (ebTEL) brings together TEL and EBD. The workshop aims at collecting contributions concerning evidence-based TEL systems, like their design following EBD principles as well as success stories or best practices that educators, education stakeholders or educational psychologists used to improve their students' learning experience, in particular for students with specific difficulties (e.g. poor/slow readers, students living in impoverished communities or families).
The previous edition of ebTEL collected TEL contributions from computer science, artificial intelligence, evidence-based medicine, educational psychology and pedagogy. Like the previous edition, the international ebTEL’13 edition aims at being a forum in which TEL researchers and practitioners alike can discuss innovative evidence-based ideas, projects, and lessons related to TEL. The meeting will be held in Salamanca on May 22nd-24th 2013, in parallel with the PAAMS'13 International Conference.
TOPICS AND KEYWORDS
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
- Evidence-based personalisation, user modelling and adaptation in TEL
- Evidence-based games and game learning for TEL
- Knowledge representation and reasoning for evidence-based TEL
- Knowledge management and evidence-based TEL
- Natural language processing and evidence-based TEL
- Semantic web and evidence-based TEL
- Web 2.0 and Social Learning environments for evidence-based TEL
- Sharing and interoperability between evidence-based TEL systems
- Effective teaching techniques and strategies for learning
- Evidence-based design case studies
- Evaluation guidelines, methodologies and methods for evidence-based TEL
- Evidence-based TEL for users with special needs
EXPECTED PARTICIPANTS
The ebTEL workshop invites contributions in the area of TEL, both from computer science as well as evidence-based medicine, educational psychology and pedagogy. Researchers from these areas and education stakeholders are all expected contributors or participants. The organising committee will particularly encourage the participation of stakeholders and researchers in the educational or TEL field so as to foster the sharing of best practices in the field, and disseminate the research progress in the educational context.
SUBMISSION DETAILS
We invite the submission of papers (max. 8 pages in Springer format) reporting original research, not previously published, relevant to the workshop's themes.
All submissions will be carefully reviewed by an international program committee. All submitted papers will undergo a thorough review process; each paper will be refereed by at least two experts in the field based on relevance, originality, significance, quality and clarity.
The proceedings of the previous edition of ebTEL are available via Springer at Fhttp://www.springer.com/engineering/computational+intelligence+and+complex….
PRESENTATION AND PUBLICATION
All the accepted papers will be presented during the workshop and published by Springer in the Advances in Intelligent and Soft Computing series. At least one of the authors will be required to register for the workshop in order to present the paper and have it included in the proceedings. It also foresees keynote presentations by experts in the TEL area.
GRANTS
The BISITE research group (http://bisite.usal.es) of the University of Salamanca, organiser of PAAMS 2013, offers 40 grants/awards to facilitate the attendance to doctoral and young doctors both to the
event itself (including Workshops and Special Sessions) and to the parallel collocated events. More information: http://www.paams.net/grants

Special Issue on Models and Protocols for
Digital Ecosystems
Springer Computing Journal
http://www.springer.com/computer/journal/607
**************************************************************
Digital Ecosystems are an emerging paradigm capturing the
behavior of
large-scale collaborating communities on the global ICT
infrastructure.
Such behavior includes critical features like dynamicity of
coalitions,
different data access paradigms (including the ones known as
"big data"),
vulnerability to new types of attacks and support for
innovative value
generation and sharing.
This special issue is open to researchers from both academia
and industry
working on the Digital Ecosystem paradigm.
Topics of interest include:
1. Models for the design, verification, and validation of
functional and
non-functional features of ecosystem coalitions.
2. Protocols and interaction techniques suitable for
large-scale ecosystem
collaborations.
3. Design and access frameworks for ecosystem "big data" layers.
4. Value and revenue models for business ecosystems.
Contributions are sought on novel theoretical approaches, as
well as on
practical experiences and experimental results regarding
Digital Ecosystems.

Betreff: [WI] Call for Papers for a Special Issue of the Information
Systems Journal: Information Systems addressing the Challenges of
Environmental Sustainability
Datum: Wed, 26 Sep 2012 09:37:06 +0200
Von: Petra Schubert <petra.schubert(a)uni-koblenz.de>
An: WI(a)aifb.uni-karlsruhe.de
Please note the attached Call for Papers for a Special Issue of the
Information Systems Journal: Information Systems addressing the Challenges
of Environmental Sustainability.
The challenges of environmental sustainability have been identified by
influential thought leaders like Michael Porter as being a force for change
of the same magnitude as globalization and the IT revolution.
Technology, including IS, is acknowledged as a key source of solutions to
address environmental challenges and this area of research is located at
the core of the IS field of study. IS researchers, however, have been
slower to engage with these challenges than researchers in disciplines like
accounting, economics and management who have been making contributions
over several decades.
This Special Issue aims to contribute to the development of relevant and
rigorous IS research in this domain that demonstrates the applicability of
IS as a source of empirical solutions to a range of environmental
challenges and promotes the application, testing and development of IS
theory informed by practice. Given the multi-faceted nature of challenges
to environmental sustainability, joint contributions by authors with
perspectives from across academic disciplines and industry are particularly
encouraged.

1st CALL FOR PAPERS
21st European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS 2013) June 5-8, 2013,
at Utrecht University
Track 03: Business Process Management
Deadline for paper submissions is December 7, 2012.
DESCRIPTION
Business Process Management (BPM) is comprised of concepts, methods, and
tools dedicated to the identification, capture, improvement, implementation,
and execution of organizational processes. BPM draws from and interacts with
established concepts such as Total Quality Management, Business Process
Reengineering, and Six Sigma. Moreover, BPM is supported by technologies
such as workflow automation and service-oriented computing. Business Process
Automation promises significant efficiency gains through standardized
process flows, automated resource allocation, and application integration in
the process context.
BPM is in high demand due to the ongoing pressure to improve operational
efficiencies, opportunities related to process outsourcing/off-shoring, and
compliance requirements that mandate standardized processes. Industry
analysts such as the Gartner Group have identified BPM as a top priority of
CIOs for the last eight years.
The technical questions of modeling, simulating, and executing processes
have been studied extensively in the past, but little work has been
published about the adoption, use, and organizational consequences of BPM
since the first wave of papers on Business Process Reengineering in the
early 1990s. This is notable because the technology underlying BPM has
matured significantly since then, and the organizational uptake of BPM
technology is widespread.
This track encourages the wider adoption of Information Systems research in
the domain of BPM beyond methodological and technical questions. In
particular, we are interested in papers that contribute BPM-related theories
and empirical evidence. Overall, the track explicitly encourages research
using a wide variety of methodologies covering quantitative and qualitative,
empirical and theoretical research approaches such as case studies, action
research, surveys, experiments, and design science research.
