Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISA)
An International Journal
Call for Papers for the Special Issue on the
'Design, Implementation and Evaluation of Modelling Tools'
Deadline for submission of an extended abstract: March 31, 2012
Deadline for submission of the final manuscript: May 1, 2012
Editors of the Special Issue
Ulrich Frank, University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany
Andreas Oberweis, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany
Stefan Strecker, University of Hagen, Germany
Description of Special Issue
The effective and efficient use of conceptual modelling methods and
modelling languages presupposes the availability of corresponding
modelling tools. Modelling tools represent a class of software systems
aimed at supporting modellers in constructing, documenting and
maintaining conceptual (meta) models and, at the same time, at
fostering integrity of models. Particularly with regard to
domain-specific modelling (DSM) approaches, the development of
graphical modelling tools has gained importance to support model-based
analyses and to realise a model-driven software development cycle. The
design, implementation and evaluation of modelling tools raises
particular software engineering and modelling challenges pertaining,
for instance, to model and diagram management, consistency and syntax
checking, synchronous and asynchronous collaborative modelling,
inter-tool diagram exchange, and model version control. Users of
modelling tools are faced by particular challenges resulting, for
instance, from partly subtle interdependencies between modelling tool,
its meta modelling environment, and the specification as well as
application of modelling languages.
This Special Issue is dedicated to capturing the current state-of-the
art in the area of modelling tool research with a focus on methodical
development of modelling tools. We strongly encourage submissions that
go beyond 'yet another modelling tool' and invite submissions that
address research challenges and direct further research. It is
expected that the submissions are based on sound methodical,
theoretical, conceptual-analytical and, where appropriate, hermeneutic
and/or behaviouristic approaches (e. g. case study-based
research). Submissions may not have been submitted or be under
consideration elsewhere and must constitute original work. It is
possible to submit a major revision of a manuscript already published
in workshop or conference proceedings given that the earlier
publication is properly referenced. In addition, it must be clearly
described and/or marked which parts of the manuscript have been
revised and of what nature the changes are.
Topics of interests to this Special Issue include but are not limited
to:
Software development methods dedicated to the development of modelling
tools,
Systems architectures and architecture modelling for modelling tools,
Automated modelling tool generation and corresponding theoretical,
technical and practical challenges,
Interdependencies between modelling tool, its meta modelling
environment, and the specification of modelling languages,
Approaches to bridge the gap between modelling languages and
implementation languages,
Modelling tools for collaborative modelling and solutions to
corresponding software development challenges,
Design patterns and rules with respect to modelling tool development,
Economic analysis of modelling tools and their development,
especially under consideration of free and open source software
frameworks and platforms,
Challenges in modelling tool development and potential solution
candidates (e.g., layout algorithms, model versioning, distributed
modelling, tool usability),
Evaluation and critical review of modelling tools, their
architectures, underlying frameworks and platforms,
The use of modelling tools in organizations.
Experience reports and case studies on modelling tool development,
evaluation, and use in practical applications are encouraged as well
and will be considered for the special EMISA category of articles,
'Guidelines for Successful Practice', intended to foster the
application of modelling methods and languages in organizations.
Important dates:
2012-03-31: Optional submission of an extended abstract (max. 4 pages;
motivation of research, research method, related work, key results).
Submissions of an extended abstract is strongly recommended.
2012-05-01: Deadline for submission of manuscripts.
Instructions for authors including guidelines for manuscript
preparation are available online. Authors are asked for electronic
submissions via the submission management system available at
http://www.wi-inf.uni-duisburg-essen.de/ojs/. In case of multiple
authors, it is required to name one author who uploads the
submission. The submission should include a cover page with the
paper's title and the names, affiliations and e-mail addresses of all
authors. The first page of the paper starts with the title and does
not carry the authors' names. Submissions must be completely anonymous
(including document metadata). Submitted manuscripts are accepted
either in MS-Word or PDF format. A LaTeX template is
available. Submissions should not exceed 7.000 words. In addition to
the paper, an abstract (around 150 words) has to be
provided. Submitted papers will be reviewed within no more than two
months. The review process is double blind. Authors who submit a
manuscript guarantee that it has not been published elsewhere, nor is
intended to be published elsewhere. Papers that were accepted for
publication must be written according to the style defined for the
journal. Please keep in mind that the journal EMISA uses British
English.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
First International Cashless Society Roundtable (ICSR)
A roundtable in Copenhagen, Denmark, April 18 & 19, 2012
Abstract submission deadline: February 29, 2012
Sponsored by the Copenhagen Finance IT Region, the
Department of IT Management, Copenhagen Business School, and
Financial Services Innovation Centre, University College Cork
CASHLESS SOCIETY
For centuries, coins and bills were the only options to make
purchases and to transfer money between people and
organizations. The second half of the last century witnessed
the introduction of plastic cards, Electronic Fund Transfer,
Internet banking, and pre-paid payment cards all aimed at
making payment more efficient. With advances in information
technology a number of new payment solutions has emerged,
including premium SMS payments, M-PESA, Pay Pal, Google
Wallet, and Bit Coin, Flatter, and Square-Up. Many of these
innovations offer advantages in terms of costs, security,
and convenience, they also pose a number of challenges and
risks related to, at least, technical standards, data
security, legal issues and consumer behavior. Overall, these
innovations are changing people?s perception and experience
of money and paying.
The innovation process in payments is promoted by different
groups of actors (such as financial institutions, start-up
software companies, merchants, and mobile operators) and by
international governmental agencies (for example the
European Central Bank). Not only new payment solutions
attract a lot of attention in media and press, but they also
trigger a debate regarding the cashless society.
The development towards a cashless society affects our life.
It will have an impact on the actors in the payment
eco-system, leading to a number of both anticipated as well
as unanticipated consequences on individual, organizational
and society level. These consequences are of critical
importance and need to be explored. We stress the importance
of investigating a cashless society from multiple
perspectives, including economics, technical,
infrastructure, sociological, anthropological, design, and
information systems, to mention a few.
This roundtable will examine the consequences and impact of
a cashless society from multiple perspectives at different
levels of analysis. Specifically, topics of interest may
include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Cash in the future
- New payment solutions as disruptive technologies
- Social consequences of a cashless society
- Digitalization of money
- Changes in the payment eco-system
- Emerging payment business models
- Role of money and payments in society
- Economics of payments
- Emerging payment technologies, e.g. mobile payments, Bit
Coin, Flatter etc.
- Designing new payments and payments techniques, e.g. NFC,
Bio metric payments
- Integrity and privacy issues
Confirmed keynote speaker:
Professor Priya Raghubir from New York University Stern
School of Business. Her interests are in the areas of
marketing research and in particular consumer behavior,
marketing strategy, and psychological aspects of prices and
money.
SUBMISSIONS
Abstracts for presentations are invited and should be not
more than 2000 words. Please also provide a short (100 word)
bio, with full contact information including email addresses.
Abstracts are due February 29, 2012. Please email your
abstract to cashlessroundtable(a)gmail.com
<mailto:cashlessroundtable@gmail.com>.
Acceptance decisions will be announced March 3.

*CALL FOR PAPERS*
18th Americas Conference on Information Systems
Seattle, Washington, August 9-12, 2012
*Track:*IS in Healthcare
*Miniâ??track title:*Adoption and Meaningful Use of Electronic Health
Record (EHR) Technology
*Description*
Through regulatory mandate and/or financial incentives, most developed
countries are driving the implementation of some types of healthcare
information technologies that capture, maintain, and exchange the
healthcare records electronically. In U.S. for example, the Health
Information Technology (HIT) program of the American Recovery &
Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) has been defined to modernize the health
care system by promoting and expanding the adoption of health
information technology by 2014. This program calls for up to four years
of Medicare incentive payments to hospitals who meet the requirements of
â??meaningful useâ?? of â??certified electronic healthcare record (EHR)
technologyâ??.
Past experiences in enterprise information system implementations,
however, have usually delivered less than their promise, and at more
cost than anticipated. Yet the need for success in EHR implementations
is greater given our demographic trends and an increasingly expensive
system. Accordingly, this mini-track track seeks to promote and
encourage the use of proven industry technologies and knowledge in
healthcare settings. Here, the learning cycle can be reduced and the
bridge across the digital divide mended. The track welcomes both
conceptual and empirical research on adoption and meaningful use of HER
either at the individual, group, or organizational level.
*Suggested Topics*
This track will provide a platform for researchers and practitioners to
submit original studies on the following subjects and on other
appropriately connected topics:
·EHR design
·Adoption of EHR
·Enablers and inhibitors of EHR implementation
·Measures for meaningful use benchmarks
·Best practices of EHR implementation
·Organizational change management with EHR implementation
·Patient interaction with EHR
·Standardization of information interchange in EHR
·Internet/intranet applications (e.g. medical protocols, patient
information, etc.)
·Workflow management in healthcare chains
·Patient privacy and data security in EHR
·EHR's role in supporting rapid learning and decision making
·EHR across the digital divide
·Tele-health and EHR
·EHR and social media
·Research directives on EHR study

AMCIS 2012 - Call for Papers
Mini-Track: Enterprise Architecture & Organizational Success
Enterprise Architecting (EA) is the process of developing an enterprise
Information Technology architecture -- both its description and its
implementation. An EA description focuses on a holistic and integrated
view of the why, where, and who uses IT systems and how and what they
are used for within an organization. An enterprise architect (and
his/her team) develops the strategy and enables the decisions for
designing, developing, and deploying IT systems to support the business
operations as well as to assess, select, and integrate the technology
into the organization's infrastructure. Alignment between business and
IT has remained one of the top three issues for CIOs and IS managers for
several years as reported by CIO magazine.
An EA implementation focuses on remediating, renovating, or replacing IT
systems in compliance with the EA description to achieve the proposed
benefits. EA is central to the execution of business strategies.
Organizations vary in their degree of EA maturity. While the research
literature has devoted substantial attention to the development of
effective EA frameworks and the alignment of business and IT, there is
very little empirical evidence about the organizational benefits of EA.
For example, we know very little about which processes, approaches or
coordination practices lead to an effective architecting effort or
whether this effort leads to measurable organizational benefits.
Consequently, we are soliciting paper submissions that: advance our
knowledge of EA; help us learn about effective processes and approaches
to effectively manage the EA; and begin to identify ways to measure the
organizational benefits derived from EA. Papers will be solicited in
several areas, including, but not limited to the following:
. Architecting Processes, Methodologies and Practices
. Architectural Frameworks and Theory
. Business Process Architecture
. Tools and Techniques Supporting Architecting
. Service-Oriented Architectures (including Web Services)
. System versus Software Architectures
. Addressing EA Challenges
. Integration of EA with IT Governance and SOA
. Surveys and Case Studies
. EA and Organizational Success
Important dates:
March 1st. 2012 Deadline for paper submissions
April 6, 2012 Notification of acceptance
April 25, 2012 Final copy due
Instructions for authors:
The entire paper should be no more than 5,000 words, including all
materials and sections such as figures, tables, and references. All
conference submissions will be double-blind, peer reviewed, and must be
submitted using the online submission system at
http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/amcis2010. For complete instructions for
authors and information about the conference, visit the AMCIS 2010
