CALL for PAPERS
CONFENIS 2012, 19 -- 21 September 2012, Ghent Belgium
ENTERPRISE INFORMATION SYSTEMS OF THE FUTURE
EVOLVING TOWARDS MORE PERFORMANCE THROUGH TRANSPARENCY AND AGILITY
Enterprise information systems (EIS) are large-scale modular software
systems, such as ERP, that support and integrate process information
flows, information reporting and business analytics within and between
complex organizations. They provide a technology platform that enables
organizations to integrate their information assets and coordinate their
business processes. As the central nervous system of the organization,
they ensure that information can be shared across all functional
departments and managerial levels. EIS are invaluable because they
eliminate the problem of information fragmentation caused by multiple
information systems in an organization.
The CONFENIS series of conferences offers an annual opportunity to EIS
researchers and practitioners to present recent research or application
experiences, to provide feedback to peers, to set out the vision for
future research and developments in the field, and to create or confirm
long-lasting and fruitful collaborations.
With the theme of CONFENIS 2012 we wish to emphasize two evolutions in
the science and practice of EIS. The first evolution is the development
of more open systems, for instance, the creation of interoperation
between systems from collaborating organizations or the composition of
systems from standard modules and packages offered by different vendors.
The second evolution is the move towards more flexible systems, meaning
easily configurable and adaptable systems based on service-oriented
software architectures, the software as a service business model, cloud
computing infrastructures, and software product line approaches. We
therefore especially welcome Design Science research and technical or
evaluation papers on methods, techniques and technologies to make EIS
more transparent, e.g. research on enterprise modelling, ontology and
architecture that would 'open up' the structure and behaviour of
enterprise systems, as well as empirically-driven research and
theoretical, conceptual or even visionary papers on how flexible EIS
solutions can foster business agility and innovation.
Apart from research papers, the call for papers is also open to
practice-driven experience reports that reflect upon openness and
flexibility in the context of the acquisition, implementation, use and
management of EIS in organizations. The conference is hosting an
industry & service track aimed at exploring emerging topics in depth. We
therefore particularly welcome contributions from starters, SME's,
social profit organizations, organizations within non-business sectors
or any other kind of organization that was not targeted by the standard
monolithic enterprise system software packages of the past.
Accepted papers will be published as full or short papers in a Lecture
Notes in Business Information Processing (LNBIP) volume by Springer.

*Four types of papers, two different tracks *
We are soliciting four types of papers for two different tracks: an
*academic track *that is mainly focused on research issues in EIS and an
*industry & service track *that is mainly focused on practical issues in
EIS.
1. *Regular research papers *(academic track) report on completed EIS
research that complies with rigorous scientific standards. These papers
present original results of completed research studies with the aim of
obtaining feedback from fellow researchers. The ambition level for these
papers, after revision incorporating the expert feedback, is a
publication in an academic journal or as a book chapter published by an
internationally recognized publisher.
2. *Work-in-progress papers *(academic track) are short papers that
present the design and preliminary results of ongoing EIS research
studies with the aim of obtaining early feedback and further guidance
from experts and peers. Work-in-progress papers will be evaluated using
the same academic standards as regular research papers (except for
completeness requirements).
3. *Conceptual or visionary papers *(industry & service track) are
papers that may target practitioners, researchers, or both. Their aim is
to convey a clear message based on well-founded arguments, though not
necessarily based on the results of specific scientific studies. The
ideas expressed may be driven by experience with the practice of EIS or
research in EIS. These papers will be evaluated mainly for their
readability, innovativeness, and soundness of the ideas expressed.
4. *Experience reports *(industry & service track) describe real-life
experiences with EIS that authors wish to share with fellow
practitioners and EIS researchers. They focus on specific problems and
solutions in specific contexts. Their aim may be to help other
practitioners facing similar problems or to solicit help and possible
solutions from other practitioners (or EIS researchers). We especially
welcome papers aiming at following domains: healthcare IT, sme's and
ERP: from design for large enterprises towards adaptation for smaller
organizations (sme's) and social profit organisations, from
transactional systems to decision-making systems, from ERP and SCM over
CRM, Office Systems towards Business Intelligence and Web 2.0,
approaches for training and communication when implementing ERP, change
management in the context of planning and/or implementing ERP, sources
of success and failure when selecting, planning, implementing ERP,
evaluation and benefits management of EIS projects, characteristics,
skills and competencies of planning and/or implementation teams
The evaluation of these papers will be based mainly on readability,
relevance to the conference, and potential interest to the conference
participants. The submission process will be handled by the EasyChair
conference management system. Only submission of electronic manuscripts
via EasyChair is allowed. The submission guidelines provide further
information on the submission requirements for these different tracks
and types of paper.

**** Scope *****
WWW has been driving global information integration. In spite of the many applications in all domains of our societies: e-business, e-commerce, e-learning, e-science, and e-government, for instance, as well as the tremendous advances by engineers and scientists, the seamless integration of information and services remains a major challenge. The current shared vision for the future is one of semantically rich information and service oriented architectures for global information systems. This vision is at the convergence of progress in technologies such as XML, Web services, RDF, OWL, of multimedia, multimodal, and multilingual information retrieval, and of distributed, mobile and ubiquitous computing. iiWAS2012 is the 14th in the series of the highly successful International Conference on Information Integration and Web-based Applications& Systems. Recently, iiWAS has been held in Ho Chi Minh City (2011), Paris (2010), Kuala Lumpur (2009), and Linz (2008). This year Bali will host iiWAS2012. The iiWAS conference series have provided opportunities to researchers, graduate students, and industry practitioners to address recent research results and current industry practices in the area of information integration and web-based applications.
We invite two types of submissions: Full Technical Papers and Short Position Papers. A Full Paper should provide solid conceptual and theoretical foundation and substantial support for its results and conclusions as a significant contribution to the field. A Position Paper could be "demo" or ˜work in progress, i.e., it reports the latest emerged ideas, approaches, methodologies, systems and application scenarios but have not yet been fully implemented and/or undergone extensive evaluation.

Worlds*
18th Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS2012)
09 - 12 August 2011, Seattle, Washington, USA,http://amcis2012.aisnet.org/
*Introduction:*
The rise of new media channels during the last few years has changed the
way consumers communicate and exchange information. Most major companies
now build virtual communities and virtual worlds on blogs, Facebook Fan
Pages, Twitter, Second Life, and the like in an attempt to manage
customer relationships through consumer engagement and participation in
these online social platforms. Customers can easily communicate their
opinions, exchange product information, and rate companies and their
offerings on online product-review communities. They can freely join
their favorite online brand communities and engage in those communities
through dynamic communication processes (e.g., providing comments on
pictures and videos related to the brand or company). Consumers can even
be involved in product development as developers solicit input from
customers on blogs and virtual worlds. These behavioral expressions by
customers reflect their engagement in virtual communities and virtual
worlds.
Recently, customer engagement and participation in virtual communities
and virtual worlds has become a subject of research in the IS area. The
main purpose of this mini-track is to provide a forum for the exchange
of research ideas and best practices related to customer engagement in
these online social platforms. It also aims to raise awareness in terms
of the latest trends and developments in virtual communities and virtual
worlds, and address the challenges of encouraging and managing customer
engagement in these platforms. This minitrack is open to all types of
research, conceptual or empirical. Examples of possible topics of
interest include (but are not limited to):
§Models of customer engagement and participation in virtual communities
and virtual worlds
§User-generated content in virtual communities and virtual worlds
§Electronic word of mouth and online brand reputation management in
virtual communities and virtual Worlds
§Customer engagement and marketing intelligence
§Customer engagement and customer knowledge management
§Customer engagement and prosumers
§Customer relationship management (e.g., satisfaction, trust, loyalty)
and customer engagement in virtual communities and virtual worlds
§Social network analysis and customer engagement in virtual communities
and virtual worlds
§Platform differentiation and customer engagement effectiveness
§Customer engagement in mobile social platforms

Data centers have become an integral part of the backbone infrastructure
for
information technology. In particular, they provide a cost efficient
solution
for provisioning a wide range of computing resources in diverse
environments
such as business, scientific, or mobile. Due to the rapid growth of user-
defined and user-generated programs, applications and content, the
complexity
of deploying and operating data centers is expected to increase.
Considering
the high volume of mixed workloads, the diversity of services offered, and
the
increasing mobility of users across geographically distributed areas, the
performance optimization of data centers has become ever more necessary and
challenging, especially concerning criteria such as scalability,
reliability,
manageability, power efficiency, area density, and operating costs. As a
result, adaptive and autonomic optimization strategies are essential in
managing the multi-dimensional complexity of data center performance.
The goal of this workshop is to promote a community-wide discussion to find
and identify suitable strategies to enable effective and scalable data
center
performance optimizations. We are looking for papers that present new
techniques, introduce new methodologies, propose new research directions,
or
discuss strategies for resolving open performance problems at all layers of
a
data center.

CALL FOR PAPERS
18th Americas Conference on Information Systems
Seattle, Washington <x-apple-data-detectors://0/>, August 9-12, 2012
<x-apple-data-detectors://1/>
Track: Decision Support, Data Management Systems, Knowledge Management,
and Business Intelligence (SIGDSS)
Minitrack: Knowledge Management Value, Success and Performance Measurements
DESCRIPTION
Research into knowledge management (KM), organizational memories,
and organizational learning has been affected by investigations such
as implementation aspects, system developments, or knowledge flows
during a number of years. Therefore, a high maturity level of KM
research has been achieved. However, organizational KM initiatives
are more and more faced with budget cuts and justification demands
due to intense competition in todayâ??s business environments. The
influences of the rapid pace of globalization and of the ongoing
liberalization of national and international markets lead to the
emergence of increased pressure on existing companies. Project
managers of KM initiatives like Chief Knowledge Officers need to
justify their budgets and thus are in need of qualitative and
quantitative evidence of the initiativesâ?? success. In addition,
ROI calculations and traditional accounting approaches do not tell
an adequate story when proposing knowledge-based initiatives. This
minitrack explores research into strategies, methodologies, and
stories that relate to measure this success. In addition, this
minitrack will be used to explore the bodies of performance
measurements that define the current state of research in measuring
KM, organizational memory, and organizational learning success.
Eventually, another purpose of this minitrack is to present research
on how to value knowledge-based initiatives
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
â?¢Frameworks and models for assessing knowledge management and/or
organizational memory systems
â?¢Methodologies and processes for measuring knowledge management
and/or organizational memory success and performance
â?¢Impact of knowledge management strategy, organization, systems,
culture, and other issues on knowledge management/organizational
memory success
â?¢Organizational effectiveness/efficiency due to knowledge
management/organizational memory/organizational learning, knowledge
and organizational memory use
â?¢Knowledge management, organizational memory, and organizational
learning metrics
â?¢Knowledge management, organizational memory, and organizational
learning success factors and key performance indicators
â?¢Benchmarking of knowledge management/organizational memory
initiatives
â?¢Case studies of knowledge management and organizational memory
success and performance measurements
â?¢Measuring knowledge management and/or organizational memory
performance in global organizations and globally dispersed communities
â?¢Effectiveness and/or efficiency of knowledge
management/organizational memory systems
â?¢Modeling and measuring the impact of social software on knowledge
management performance
â?¢Defining knowledge management and organizational memory success
â?¢Rigorous anecdotes and user stories and their theoretical basis
to facilitate the value of knowledge-based initiatives
â?¢Developing grounded theory approaches to valuing knowledge-based
initiatives
