Minitrack: Diffusion of IS Innovations in Social Networks
Track: Adoption and Diffusion of Information Technology (SIGADIT
<http://www.sigadit.org/>)
August 9-12, 2012, Seattle, Washington
CALL FOR PAPERS
The diffusion of information systems (IS) innovations can be visualized
as a process of communication by which members of a social system may
become aware of IS innovations over time. The social system may comprise
individuals or organizations, deal with formal or informal connections,
exist for hedonic or instrumental purposes, structured as aristocratic
or egalitarian networks, and based on strong or weak ties among members.
Communication mechanisms and patterns within such social systems can
vary considerably and can significantly affect the diffusion process
over time. We solicit theoretical expositions and empirical
investigations that deal with the diffusion of IS innovations.
Topics relevant for this mini-track include, but are not limited to, the
following:
- Types of communication channels for diffusion of IS innovations
- Relationship between network characteristics (e.g., network
centrality) and diffusion
- Speed of diffusion of IS innovations within networks
- Effects of organizational (or network level) mechanisms on diffusion
- Political moves underlying diffusion of IS innovations
- Positive and negative communication regarding IS innovations and diffusion
- Patterns of diffusion (e.g., S-shaped curve) within social networks
- Modeling diffusion within social networks

---Workshop Content---
The prevalence and maturity of today's mobile technologies allow for a
mobilization of cooperative work on a large scale. While there is a plethora of
technologies offering mobile cooperation support in the field, there still is a
need for a methodological reflection on the mobilization of cooperative
processes. The field of CSCW needs to develop a framework for the analysis and
practical design of mobile cooperation - the full day workshop on Mobile CSCW
at COOP 2012 is intended to be a starting point for this endeavor.
Intending to develop a conception of Mobile CSCW that is applicable both for
business an research, we will address three pivotal questions from a joint
perspective of research and practice:
1) When and how can processes of cooperation be mobilized adequately?
2) which opportunities and barriers arise from current findings and
technologies for mobile cooperation support?
3) How does cooperation change through mobile access to cooperation support and
how does mobility shape new technologies for cooperation?
Aiming at knowledge exchange and co-production, the workshop invites both
researchers and practitioners and incorporates presentations of participants'
work and interactive sessions.
The workshop is held in conjunction with the 10th International Conference on
the Design of Cooperative Systems (COOP 2012).
---Topics---
The workshop welcomes different kind of contributions, including the
description of case studies and other empirical work on mobile cooperation
support, position papers e.g. describing future research and practical
experiences with mobile cooperation support. Although we strongly encourage
partners or tandems from research and practice (just as the organizers) to
present their work of implementing mobile CSCW in real contexts, researchers
and practitioners without a partner present are also cordially invited to
contribute their work.
Topics of the workshop include but are not restricted to the following:
Studies on mobile cooperation processes
- Analysis of cooperation processes and their (potential for) mobility
- Mobile work and its affordances
- Mobility of cooperation processes and their parts
- Communication in mobile cooperation
- Advantages and disadvantages of mobile and mobilization of cooperation
Experiences with mobile technologies for cooperation support
- Adoption and adaption of mobile technology in cooperation
- (Positive and negative) Effects of mobile technology on communication and
cooperation
- Integration of mobile devices into existing IT and process infrastructures
- Usage patterns of mobile cooperation support, including personalization
Theories, frameworks and design approaches supporting mobile cooperation
support
- Constraints, needs and benefits of mobile cooperation
- Mappings between technology and mobile needs
- Insights into the way (mobile) technologies change (mobile) cooperation
- Design of mobile cooperation processes and technologies
- Modeling of mobile business processes ñ patterns and procedures to depict
mobility, its opportunities and to conduct the necessary steps of
transformation.

---Venue---
The 10th International Conference on the Design of Cooperative Systems (COOP
2012) will be held in Marseille, France from 29 May to 1 June 2012.
COOP 2012 will be the tenth COOP conference and twenty years on from the first
conference in 1992 we are asking practitioners to reflect on what have been the
successes and the failures, and what are the remaining challenges in our
relevant domains. The conference aims at bringing together researchers who
contribute to the analysis and design of cooperative systems and their
integration in organizational unity, public and other settings, and their
implications for policy and decision-making.
The COOP conferences suggest that cooperative systems design requires deep
understanding of collective activities, involving both artifacts and social
practices. Contributions are solicited from a wide range of domains
contributing to the fields of cooperative systems design and evaluation: CSCW,
HCI, Information Systems, Knowledge Engineering, Multi-agents, organizational
and management sciences, sociology, psychology, anthropology, ergonomics,
linguistics, etc.

SASO 2012 - Call for Papers, Poster, Tutorials and Workshops
6th IEEE International Conference on Self-Adaptive and Self-Organizing Systems
Lyon, France; 10-14 September 2012 --- http://saso2012.univ-lyon1.fr/
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The aim of the SASO conference series is to provide a forum for the foundations of a principled approach to engineering systems, networks and services based on self-adaptation and self-organization. To this end, the meeting aims to attract participants with different backgrounds, to foster cross-pollination between research fields, and to expose and discuss innovative theories, frameworks, methodologies, tools, and applications. The complexity of current and emerging computing systems has led the software engineering, distributed systems and management communities to look for inspiration in diverse fields (e.g., complex systems, control theory, artificial intelligence, sociology, and biology) to find new ways of designing and managing networks, systems and services. In this endeavor, self-organization and self-adaptation have emerged as two promising interrelated facets of a paradigm shift.
Contributions must present novel theoretical or experimental results, or practical approaches and experiences in building or deploying real-world systems, applications, tools, frameworks, etc. Contributions contrasting different approaches for engineering a given family of systems, or demonstrating the applicability of a certain approach for different systems are particularly encouraged.
---------------
Call for Papers
---------------
The aim of the SASO conference series is to provide a forum for presenting the latest results about self-adaptive and self-organizing systems, networks and services. To this end, the meeting aims to attract participants with different backgrounds, to foster cross-pollination between research fields, to expose and discuss innovative theories, frameworks, methodologies, tools, and applications, and to identify new challenges. The complexity of current and emerging computing systems has led the software engineering, distributed systems and management communities to look for inspiration in diverse fields (e.g., complex systems, control theory, artificial intelligence, sociology, biology, etc.) to find new ways of designing and managing networks, systems and services. In this endeavor, self-organization and self-adaptation have emerged as two promising interrelated facets of a paradigm shift.
Self-adaptive systems work in a top down manner. They evaluate their own global behavior and change it when the evaluation indicates that they are not accomplishing what they were intended to do, or when better function or performance is possible. A challenge is often to identify how to change specific behaviors to achieve the desired improvement. Self-organizing systems work bottom up. They are composed of a large number of components that interact locally according to typically simple rules. The global behavior of the system emerges from these local interactions. Here, a challenge is often to predict and control the resulting global behavior.
Important Dates

All contributions must present novel theoretical or experimental results, or practical approaches and experiences in building or deploying real-world systems and applications. Contributions that contrast "conventional" engineering principles with novel approaches making use of SASO principles are especially welcome.
Submissions Instructions
All submissions should be 10 pages and formatted according to the IEEE Computer Society Press proceedings style guide and submitted electronically in PDF format. Please register as authors and submit your papers using the SASO 2012 conference management system. The proceedings will be published by IEEE Computer Society Press, and made available as a part of the IEEE digital library. Note that a separate call for poster and demo submissions has also been issued.
Emerging Topic Papers
---------------------
In addition to regular papers, SASO also encourages the submission of papers on emerging topics. These submissions should be clearly marked as such (indicating "Emerging Topic:" in the title) and should provide a well-rounded survey of novel questions, methods and abstractions that are relevant for the design of SASO systems along with a clear indication of the possible impact on the SASO community. In this category we particularly encourage submissions that present innovative applications of methodological frameworks being used in other fields of science that study SASO related phenomena, thus highlighting connections and potential for collaboration between different scientific communities.

----------------
If selected, authors shall prepare a final, camera ready version of the extended abstract, taking into account all feedback from reviewers, and formatted according to the IEEE Computer Society Press proceedings style guide. Posters will be advertised in the final program, and authors' two-page extended abstracts will be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press as part of the conference proceedings. Abstracts will also be available as part of the IEEE Digital Library.
Poster Content
--------------
All posters should include the following information:
- The purpose and goals of the work.
- Any background and motivation needed to understand the work.
- Any critical hypotheses and assumptions that underlie the work.
- A clear summary of the contribution and/or results, in sufficient detail for a (re)viewer to understand the work and its relevance. If the work is at an initial stage, it is especially important to state clearly the anticipated contributions and any early results towards them.
- The relationship to other related efforts, where appropriate. Authors of accepted posters may be asked to point out relationships to work represented by other accepted posters.
- Where to find additional information. This should include but is not restricted to: a web site where viewers can go to find additional information about the work how to contact the authors, including email addresses citations for any papers, books, or other materials that provide additional information.
Poster Layout Guidelines
------------------------
The format of posters and the nature of poster sessions require authors to capture the viewers' attention effectively, and present core concepts so as to clearly position the context of their research work. For this reason, graphic representations, figures, and screen shots are typically the main medium of communication in successful posters. Few attendees will stop to read a large poster with dense text. If screen shots are used, please ensure that they print legibly and that the fonts are large enough to be read easily once printed. Though left to the authors' discretion, we recommend that authors bring laminated A0 or A1-sized posters with them to the conference. Facilities for printing posters are available in Ann Arbor, but may not be conveniently located to the conference venue.
Attendance
----------
At least one of the poster authors is required to register at the conference and will be required to give a brief presentation of the poster in the interactive poster session, as well as staying with the poster to discuss the work with conference attendees for the duration of the scheduled poster sessions.

Author notification 15 May 2012
Camera-ready paper submission 05 June 2012
Workshop dates 15 October - 18 October 2012
Theme of the Workshop
---------------------
Web Information Systems (WIS) use the Web paradigm (and technologies) to retrieve information from data sources and deliver it to the users. Due to their complex requirements the design of WIS is not a trivial task. Design methodologies provide guidelines for the creation of WIS so that the complexity of this process becomes manageable. Based on the separation-of-concerns principle some of these methodologies propose models to specify different aspects of WIS design like data integration, navigation structure, user interface, user interaction, presentation personalization, etc.
Recent advances in networking technologies enabled WIS access via different devices (e.g., PDA, Smart phone, PC, BlackBerry, etc.). In addition to this device heterogeneity there is also a heterogeneous audience (e.g., different backgrounds, different goals, etc.) that wants to access the same system. In order to improve the user experience, these systems often need to personalize the content and its presentation based on the current user needs (e.g., user’s browsing platform or user preferences).
Another aspect that can influence the behaviour of a WIS is the context of use (e.g., the geographical position, the temporal information, the weather conditions, etc.). Systems that are able to exploit this kind of information will further improve the application usefulness for their users. Integrating such information is possibly made available by specialized services and the need to seamlessly integrate these services into a WIS is therefore an important part of WIS development research.
As the Web data is very diverse, WIS are seeking efficient and flexible approaches to provide integrated views over heterogeneous data sources. These data sources are usually autonomous (maintained by different organizations), overlapping, frequently changing, and distributed. All these characteristics make the data integration on the Web a very challenging research topic.
The increased use of rich-clients applications (e.g., AJAX, OpenLaszlo, etc.) poses new demands to WIS design. The design of these applications needs to go beyond the server roundtrip paradigm by considering the new functionality added to clients, an intelligent data-push communication with the server, interactive-rich graphical interfaces, etc. Also, with the current emergence of social Web applications (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, etc.) there is a need to properly model the highly dynamic aspects of these systems. In addition, WIS can tap into the data made available by these systems to provide for previously unforeseen functionalities. Making use of rich clients and allowing users to establish social networks are some of the features that need to be considered when developing Web 2.0 applications.
Semantic Web (also known as Web 3.0) technologies (e.g., RDF(S), OWL, etc.) can help in the representation and processing of the different WIS design models aiming for an improved interoperability. One example of such a model is the user profile which is often described using a CC/PP vocabulary. Due to their focus on distribution over the Web, Semantic Web representation languages prove to be useful also for specifying the semantics of data and the semantics of interfaces in order to facilitate the integration of heterogeneous databases and Web services, respectively. The best practice recommendation of Linked Data allows Web applications to seamlessly publish, interconnect, and access information on the Semantic Web. The inference mechanisms of the Semantic Web (captured in the semantics of the representation language or in rule-based languages like RuleML and SWRL) can be used for deriving new information or building intelligent services on the Web.
Over the last few years, Web services have offered new opportunities to deploy WIS. Web services are independent from specific platforms and computing paradigms, and have the capacity to form composed processes, referred to as composite Web services. Web services composition fulfils user requests that require the participation of several component Web services. Several composition languages are now available (e.g., BPEL, WSFL, etc.). Semantic descriptions of Web services are also proposed for automating composition (e.g., OWL-S, WSMO, WSDL-S, etc.). A research topic that is worth pursuing is the modeling of these composite Web services.
Goal of the Workshop
--------------------
The aim of the workshop is to provide a platform for bringing together researchers, practitioners, designers, and users of WIS and discuss how specific issues of Web Information Systems (WIS) design can be addressed by means of modeling. Specifically, we will discuss how the influence of Semantic Web technology can help in a model-driven WIS development. Thus, the workshop should enable a fruitful exchange of ideas in the state-of-the-art of WIS modeling.
Topics of Interest
------------------
The workshop topics include but are not limited to:
* Methodologies for WIS Design
* WIS Architectures
* WIS Adaptability
* WIS Personalization
* WIS Evolution
* Semistructured Data in WIS
* Data Models in WIS
* Query Languages in WIS
* Integration of WIS
* Optimization Techniques for WIS
* Security in WIS
* Business Rules in WIS
* Web Services in WIS
* WIS Ubiquity
* Social WIS
* Rich Client WIS
* Web Metadata in WIS
* Ontologies in WIS
* Linked Data in WIS
* Semantic Web Information Systems
Paper Submission
----------------
Prospective workshop participants are invited to submit a paper related to one (or more) of the workshop topics. The page limit for workshop papers is 10 pages. Papers should be formatted according to Springer LNCS style http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html.
The organizers will oversee a peer-review process for the submitted papers. Manuscripts not submitted in the LNCS style or having more than 10 pages will not be reviewed and thus automatically rejected. The papers need to be original and not submitted or accepted for publication in any other workshop, conference, or journal. Papers should be submitted to wism2012(a)ese.eur.nl in PDF format.

CALL FOR PAPERS and POSTERS
Agent-Directed Simulation Symposium (ADS'12)
Florida Hotel and Conference Center, Orlando, FL, USA
March 26-29, 2012
http://www.scs.org/springsim/2012?q=node/205
Manuscript Submission: February 6, 2012.
Sponsored by The Society for Modeling and Simulation
International (SCS).
Co-located with the 2012 SISO Spring Simulation Interoperability Workshop (SIW)
==============================================================
As part of the 2012 Spring Simulation Multi-conference (SpringSim'12)
http://www.scs.org/springsim/2012
the 2012 Agent-Directed Simulation Symposium is a premier platform to
explore all three aspects of the synergy of simulation and agent
technologies. Hence, it has a special place within simulation and
agent conferences, including agent-based (social) simulation
conferences. Therefore the ADS symposium fills a gap in the agent
community as well as the simulation community.
The purpose of the ADS symposium is to facilitate dissemination of the
most recent advancements in the theory, methodology, application, and
toolkits of agent-directed simulation. Agent-directed simulation is
comprehensive in the integration of agent and simulation technologies,
by including models that use agents to develop domain-specific
simulations, i.e., agent simulation (this is often referred to as
agent-based simulation -when other two important aspects are not
considered), and by also including the use of agent technology to
develop simulation techniques and toolkits that are subsequently
applied, either with or without agents.
Hence, agent-directed simulation consists of three distinct, yet
related areas that can be grouped under two categories as follows:
1. Simulation for Agents (agent simulation): simulation of agent
systems in engineering, human and social dynamics, military
applications etc.
2. Agents for Simulation (which has two aspects): agent-supported
simulation deals with the use of agents as a support facility to
enable computer assistance in problem solving or enhancing
cognitive capabilities; and agent-based simulation that focuses
on the use of agents for the generation of model behavior in a
simulation study.
Through the theme of agent-directed simulation, the symposium will
bring together agent technologies, tools, toolkits, platforms,
languages, methodologies, and applications in a pragmatic manner. In
this symposium, established researchers, educators, and students are
encouraged to come together and discuss the benefits of agent
technology in their use and application for simulation. It is a way
for people to discuss why and how they have used agent technology in
their simulations, and describe the benefit of having done so.
The theme of ADS'12 is based on the observation of the following
premises.
* The growth of new advanced distributed computing standards along
with the rapid rise of e-commerce are providing a new context that
acts as a critical driver for the development of next generation
systems. These standards revolve around service-oriented
technologies, pervasive computing, web-services, Grid, autonomic
computing, ambient intelligence etc. The supporting role that
intelligent agents play in the development of such systems is
becoming pervasive, and simulation plays a critical role in the
analysis and design of such systems.
* The use of emergent agent technologies at the organization,
interaction (e.g., coordination, negotiation, communication) and
agent levels (i.e. reasoning, autonomy) are expected to advance
the state of the art in various application technologies is
difficult. Using agent-supported simulation techniques for
testing complex agent systems is up and coming field.
* To facilitate bridging the gap between research and application,
there is a need for tools, agent programming languages, and
methodologies to analyze, design, and implement complex,
non-trivial agent-based simulations. Existing agent-based
simulation tools are still not mature enough to enable developing
agents with varying degrees cognitive and reasoning capabilities.
ADS 2012 will provide a leading forum to bring together researchers and
practitioners from diverse simulation societies within computer science,
social sciences, engineering, business, education, human factors, and
systems engineering. The involvement of various agent-directed
simulation groups will enable the cross-fertilization of ideas and
development of new perspectives by fostering novel advanced solutions,
as well as enabling technologies for agent-directed simulation
AUTHOR GUIDELINES
* Technical papers provide a longer format for presenting experience
reports, research results, or descriptions of "work in progress".
They are limited to 8 pages.
* Short position papers are targeted at raising a question or framing
an issue for discussion during the symposium. Position papers are
limited to 3 pages.
* Poster presentations present an opportunity to present work in
progress and receive feedback from colleagues. A one page write-up
of the poster presentations will be included in the proceedings.
Formatting guidelines and author instructions are available at
http://www.scs.org/conferences .
Papers should be submitted electronically to
http://www.softconf.com/scs/ADS12 .
All papers will be subject to a peer-reviewing process by three program
committee members. (Please see the key dates listed below)
FINAL PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
All prospective authors, whose papers are accepted for inclusion in the
program, will be invited to submit their position or technical papers to
ADS'12. Accepted and registered papers will be published in the conference
proceedings by the SCS. The committee will select a set of best papers. Authors

PAPER SUBMISSIONS
Submitted papers must not substantially overlap papers that have been
published or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal or a
conference with proceedings. All submissions should be appropriately
anonymized (i.e., papers should not contain author names or
affiliations, or obvious citations). Submissions are to be made to the
submission web site at http://www.insticc.org/Primoris.
Two categories of papers can be submitted:
- Full Paper: A full paper presents a work where the research is
completed or almost finished. Authors of regular submitted papers
will indicate at the time of submission whether they would like
their paper to also be considered for publication as a position
paper.
- Position Paper: A position paper presents results that are
preliminary or that simply require few pages to describe. A position
paper may be a short report and discussion of ideas, facts,
situations, methods, procedures, or results of scientific research
(bibliographic, experimental, theoretical, or other) focused on one
of the conference topics. The acceptance of a position paper is
restricted to the categories of "short paper" or "poster".
Submitted papers must be formatted according to the SECRYPT format
(with the exception that authors should be blinded in the submission),
which is described at http://secrypt.icete.org/paper_formats.asp.
Submission page limit is 10 pages for full paper and 6 pages for
position papers.
Accepted papers will be subject to the limit of: 10 pages (for full
papers), 6
pages (for short papers), and 4 pages (for posters). Submitted papers
will be subject to a double-blind review process. All submissions
should be anonymized. All accepted papers/posters will be published in
the conference proceedings. A short list of presented papers will be
selected so that revised and extended versions of these papers will be
published by Springer-Verlag in a CCIS Series book. Authors of
accepted papers/posters must guarantee that their papers/posters will be
presented at the conference.

Subject: [AISWorld] 2nd CFP: AMCIS 2012 Minitrack "IT/IS
Evaluation & Performance Measurement"

CALL FOR PAPERS
18th Americas Conference on Information Systems
Seattle, Washington, August 9-12, 2012
(http://amcis2012.aisnet.org/)
Track: Strategic Use of Information Technology
Mini-Track Title: IT/IS Evaluation & Performance Measurement
*************************************************
DESCRIPTION
Annual worldwide spending on information technology (IT) and
information systems (IS) has been increasing for many years.
For 2011, Gartner expects, for example, the total
expenditure on IT to reach 2.5 trillion US dollars (Gartner
2010). Simultaneously, however, a greater number of IS
failures are still emerging. A questionnaire-based survey,
carried out in 2006 in the USA, had indicated that only 62%
of software projects were considered successful (Verner et
al. 2006). The paradox of high investments and low
productivity returns has, therefore, remains a top concern
for both practitioners and researchers (Brynjolfsson 1993).
During the last two and a half decades, research on
measuring IS success has been a popular stream of research.
A number of models have been proposed in attempts to define
IS success ( DeLone and McLean 1992, 1993) and identify
various causes of success or failure, mostly from an
individual perspective. Complementary, the research stream
on the business value of IT (e.g., Kohli and Grover 2008,
Melville et al. 2004) has focused on the benefits from a
broader â?? in most cases the organizational â??
perspective. Researchers and practitioners interested in
submitting papers to this minitrack are encouraged to
present their research into strategies, methodologies,
tools, and stories that relate to the evaluation of IT/IS
and IS/IT performance measurement.
SUGGESTED TOPICS
Possible paper topics include, but are not limited to, the
following:
o Strategies, methodologies, tools, and case studies that
relate to the evaluation of IT/IS and IS/IT performance
measurement.
o Frameworks and models for assessing IS
success/effectiveness and IT business value
o Measuring IS success/IT business value in global
organizations and globally dispersed communities
o Impact of strategic, organizational, process-related,
cultural, and other issues on IS success/IT business value
o Critical discussion of existing approaches
o IS success factors and key performance indicators
o Qualitative and quantitative evaluation techniques
o Benefits management/measurement
o Benchmarking initiatives comparing IS across different
organizations and industries
o Empirical studies are also solicited that evaluate
specific types of IS such as:
- Customer Relationship Management Systems
- Project (Portfolio) Management Systems
- Knowledge Management Systems
- Decision Support Systems
- Collaborative Systems
- Enterprise Systems
- IT service management frameworks
o Case studies of IS success and performance evaluation
