and Design for Service-Oriented Enterprises*
*(part of Systems Analysis and Design (SIG SAND) Track)*
*AMCIS - Americas Conference on Information Systems,
Seattle, Washington, USA, August 9-12, 2012*
Enabled by the recent advances in web services, business
process automation, and service-oriented architectures,
organizations around the world have embarked on the
development of the next-generation enterprise
infrastructures, referred to by some as "Service-Oriented
Enterprises". Essentially, service-oriented enterprises are
organizations that take advantage of service-oriented
computing to support agile enterprises. Gartner has defined
enterprise agility as "the ability of an organization to
sense environmental change and respond efficiently and
effectively to that change." Currently, there are many open
research issues on the analysis and design for the
service-oriented enterprises that need attention from the
MIS community. This minitrack provides a forum for
researchers and practitioners who are interested in
presenting their work in this area. The suggested topics are
found in, although not limited to, the following list:
·*Analysis and design of business services*
·*Best practices in analysis and design for service-oriented
enterprises*
·*Business modeling in service-oriented enterprises*
·*Centrality of information in service-oriented enterprises*
·*Componentization of businesses*
·*Enterprise services for business process automation*
·*Innovative paradigms and techniques in support of flexible
business processes*
·*Language issues in service-oriented computing*
·*Modeling of process services*
·*Modular service composition (or enterprise service mash-ups).*
·*Service modeling and catalog management*
·*Service-oriented system analysis and design techniques*

*AMCIS 2012 E-government (SIGe-Gov) Track Call for Papers*
*Location: *Seattle, Washington**
*Dates:*August 9-12, 2012**
For over a decade governments around the world have looked
for ways to take advantage of the developments in the
Internet and associated information and communication
technologies. Emerging from e-business ideas in the late
1990s, e-government is seen as a concept that is focused on
fully exploiting these advancements unlike any other
initiative seen before in the public sector. Initially
viewed as an alternative service delivery mechanism,
e-government is now considered as a key enabler of public
sector transformation for effective governance, transparency
and accountability and citizen participation in democratic
processes and policy making. E-government influences every
aspect of daily life and covers a broad range of topics from
service delivery to constituent participation and technology
adoption to electronic governance.

Mini-track Description
For research and professional practice in the field of Information
Systems, ethics maintains a broad range of concerns that impact the work
of professionals, academics and researchers, and the work and lives of
those who are dependent upon the successful and appropriate deployment
of information systems (for example, Chatterjee, Sarker& Fuller, 2009;
Mingers and Walsham, 2010). Recent world events reported in the media
highlight the need for a constant review of ethics, both in application
and theory, through sociopolitical and sociotechnical lenses.
The use and application of computing technologies typically derives
positive and negative influences for humanity. Accounts exist of the
negative impacts of unforeseen events, the misuse of technologies, or
the corruption of otherwise well-intentioned technologies, as well as
being part of a wider negative impact on the environment. It is when
such events occur that the role that practitioners and researcher play
is brought into question. Typically, ethics in computing and information
technology has concentrated on certain specific areas such as whether
ethics in computing is a unique field, how ethics is treated
pedagogically, issues of logic versus moral responsibility, matching
computer use against human values, the ethics of professionals and
practitioners, and so on. However, some of the debates regarding ethics
have been renewed in light of recent advances in technology and the uses
to which technology is applied.
Moor (1985, p. 266) says: â??A typical problem in computer ethics
arises because there is a policy vacuum about how computer technology
should be used. Computers provide us with new capabilities and these in
turn give us new choices for action. Often, either no policies for
conduct in these situations exist or existing policies seem inadequate.
A central task of computer ethics is to determine what we should do in
such cases, that is, formulate policies to guide our actions.â??
This mini-track provides a forum for the expression of debates and
arguments surrounding these and other issues. Authors can present cases
that have arisen out of present and past researches, and events that
clarify ethical dimensions. Papers should be of a standard where
specific issues are identified and questions or solutions presented.

Second Call for Papers for AMCIS 2012 Minitrack on
Intersectionality of Identities in Information Technology
Usage, Participation, and Behavior
Track: Social Issues and Social Inclusion Track
Description:
With the full integration of technology into many aspects of
daily life- personal, professional, and social- it is of
importance to evaluate the usefulness of this technology
from a multitude of perspectives. Increased focus on factors
such as globalization, innovation, and diversity are
escalating the need for these valuable perspectives.
Therefore, it is important to not only investigate how
technology is being used, but to understand more deeply who
the users of the technology are. In an effort to do so,
studies of IT users, workers, and behaviors must expand
their examination beyond single-category analyses. Rather
than looking at human differences through a single lens
(such as race or gender alone), utilizing an intersectional
perspective of multiple identities may uncover meaningful
realizations about those interacting with technology.
Intersectionality, in this context, reflects the position
that the experiences of an individual are influenced by a
myriad of factors including race, gender, age,
socio-economic status, sexuality, geographic location, and
education level, among others. These factors may interact in
ways which provide a person with added opportunities or
obstacles in their interaction with technology.
The notion of intersectionality of individuals with respect
to IT is a developing research area which examines the
complexity of how individual differences may interplay and
interact. Studies on the topic have noted that the use of
this perspective is critical understanding the ability to
attract and retain minority talent in the IT workforce
(Yakura, 2006; Kvasny, 2003); Kvasny et al., 2009; Trauth et
al., 2008, Gurrier et al., 2009), the experiences of users
of health-care IT systems (Warren, 2010; Morgan, 2009), and
political participation (Lettis, 2006). In particular, the
use of intersectional analyses will help to further the
discourse around social inclusion and Information technology
by developing an added breadth of knowledge around
technology users.
This track invites papers that focus on the intersection of
identity characteristics and/or human differences with
respect to the use of, participation in, or behavior with
information technology. I am interested in including papers
that are both conceptually and empirically based.
Suggested Topics:
The topics of interest include but are not limited to the
following:
? The influence of the intersection of race, gender, and
culture on adoption and use of information and communication
technologies (ICT)
? Analysis of the digital divide from a multilayered
demographic perspective
? Demographic analyses of Information Technology workers
and/or the underrepresentation of minority groups in
technical work
? The role of intersectionality in health?care IT use and
behavior
? How human differences improve or affect the use of or
participation with ICT among socially inclusive communities
? The role of multiple user characteristics in information
searching, retrieval, or human information behavior
? The analysis of multiple identities in cyberspace or
social networking communities
? Use of technology for health, education and economic
development for greater social inclusion of individuals
and/or organizations

Betreff: [AISWorld] CFP: FOIS Workshop on Ontology Driven IS Engineering

*** CALL FOR PAPERS ***
4th International Workshop on Ontology Driven IS Engineering (ODISE)
URL: http://people.brunel.ac.uk/~cssrssc/events/odise2012/
co-located with Formal Ontology in Information Systems (FOIS) 2012 -
http://www.kr-med.org/icbofois2012/fois.htm
Graz, Austria - 24-27 July 2012
*** Theme ***
Ontologies are becoming increasingly popular in the development of
information systems. Their use however is mainly limited to either the
initial or end phases of the lifecycle, namely business modelling and
implementation, and their adoption is normally not characterised by an
integrated and coherent end to end approach which systematically
discovers the real-world semantics of business requirements,
represents such semantics in formal ontologies and subsequently
grounds the software design and implementation ontologically. What is
also lacking is a sound approach to ontological reuse such that
existing ontological patterns be used to drive the discovery of system
requirements with the potential to more easily identifying previously
developed software components which can be semantically mapped to
those ontological patterns.
Ontology-Driven Information Systems Engineering (ODISE, pronounced
odyssey) concerns the practical and formal application of ontologies
to all phases of the software development lifecycle. Contributions in
the form of research, research-in-progress papers and practitioner
reports are welcome. Of particular interest to the workshop are
contributions that emphasise formal ontologies and real world
semantics in improving IS engineering and contributing toward
developing software that is more adaptive and responsive to changing
business requirements.
This workshop is aimed at discussing the above themes and to bring
together academics, researchers and practitioners (with a background
in IS engineering and/or ontology development) in order to develop an
agenda of future collaborations that combine research and industrial
expertise.
Topics for contributions include, but are not limited to:
- Ontology as a means to inform the process of gathering requirements.
- Ontology as a means to inform architecture development directly from
requirements specifications.
- Ontology as a means to inform the software design directly from the
architecture specification.
- Ontology as a means to model the software development process and
the software product itself.
- Ontologies as run-time artefacts or to inform the design of run-time
artefacts.
- The role of ontology reasoning in the software engineering process.
- The role of ontologies in model-driven development.
- Philosophical ontologies (3D vs. 4D) and their role in IS development
- Comparison of different ODISE mechanisms (e.g. domain-specific
modelling, profiling, etc.).
- Comparison of the role of foundational ontologies vs. domain
ontologies in ODISE.
- Ontology driven development of service software.
- Methodological issues for ODISE.
- Problems of semantic mismatch between traditional IS modelling
paradigms, approaches, techniques, etc. and ontological modelling.
- Ontology-based development/modelling/programming languages.
*** Important Dates and Submission ***
Authors are invited to submit papers via EasyChair. Please check the
workshop Web site for further instructions. Deadlines are as follows:
30 April 2012: Submission deadline for ODISE paper
31 May 2012: Notification of acceptance

http://worldcomp.phanfare.com/5408606
An important mission of WORLDCOMP is "Providing a unique platform for
a diverse community of constituents composed of scholars, researchers,
developers, educators, and practitioners. The Congress makes concerted
effort to reach out to participants affiliated with diverse entities
(such as: universities, institutions, corporations, government agencies,
and research centers/labs) from all over the world. The congress also
attempts to connect participants from institutions that have teaching as
their main mission with those who are affiliated with institutions that
have research as their main mission. The congress uses a quota system to
achieve its institution and geography diversity objectives."
One main goal of the congress is to assemble a spectrum of affiliated
research conferences, workshops, and symposiums into a coordinated
research meeting held in a common place at a common time. This model
facilitates communication among researchers in different fields of
computer science, computer engineering, and applied computing. The
Congress also encourages multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary
research initiatives; ie, facilitating increased opportunities for
cross-fertilization across sub-disciplines. 67969
MEASURABLE SCIENTIFIC IMPACT OF WORLDCOMP:
As of November 23, 2011, papers published in WORLDCOMP set of proceedings
have received 15,860 citations. In recent months (March to November 2011),
there had been 1,475 citations to WORLDCOMP papers (about 164 citations per
month). The above record is significant (thanks to the authors). As the
result of high impact (based on citations) of WORLDCOMP papers, "Microsoft
Academic Search" has listed each individual track of the congress among its
compiled list of "Top Conferences". The citation record of WORLDCOMP set of
proceedings is in fact higher than the citation data of many reputable
journals in computer science and computer engineering. (The above citation
data does not include citations to WORLDCOMP papers published in 2011; thus,
it is highly probable that the actual number of citations is higher;
citation data was obtained from http://academic.research.microsoft.com/ )
