Special Issue On: Social Commerce: Development and Management
Submission Due Date: 12/31/2012
Introduction
Since late 2008, social commerce has emerged as a new model of e-commerce and has provided a new way of accessing customers for merchants. The rapid growth of social commerce is in part driven by Web 2.0, which shifted the business environment from business-oriented to user-oriented. There are many innovative ways to develop social commerce. For example, social commerce intermediaries such as Groupon and LivingSocial not only provide information reach and richness to customers, but also make use of social networking sites (e.g., Facebook and Twitter) and various merchant reputation sites (e.g., Yelp and TripAdvisor). Because social commerce is such a recent development, there is still a paucity of studies on the social, behavioral, economic, and managerial aspects of social commerce. This makes it very challenging for business organizations to make informed decisions in regard to social commerce adoption/implementation.
Objective
This special issue seeks to foster a scientific understanding of social commerce, provide a timely publication of current research efforts, and forecast future trends in the social commerce area. This special issue is concerned not only with individual customers and customer groups, but also with the social, organizational, and technological aspects of social commerce.
Recommended Topics
Topics to be discussed in this special issue include (but are not limited to) the following:
• Conceptual frameworks for understanding social commerce
• Design of social commerce networks
• Economic, social, and cultural issues of social commerce
• Factors influencing adoption of social commerce
• Merchant reputation systems and social commerce
• Pricing strategies for social commerce intermediaries
• Security and privacy in social commerce
• Social commerce and advertising
• Social commerce and network externalities
• Social commerce business models
• Social commerce for governments
• Social commerce for large enterprises
• Social commerce for small and medium-sized enterprises
• Social commerce in franchising
• Social commerce intermediaries and value networks
• Social commerce management
• Social mobile services
• Social software for social commerce
• Strategies for social commerce development
• Theories in social commerce
• Trends in social commerce
• Trust, loyalty, and adoption in social commerce
• User generated content
Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this fast track special theme issue on Social Commerce: Development and Management on or before December 31, 2012. Description
An increasing number of activities of public and private organizations
are engineered and managed as services, often creating a new potential
for economic growth and welfare through innovation and
productivity gains. This development is mirrored in the domain of
information systems. This becomes evident in developments to use service
as the organizing logic for providing IS, in the use of service as an
architectural paradigm (SOA), and in the development of internet-based
service infrastructure for processes, applications, and infrastructure.
Moreover, the increasing amalgamation of IS-enabled corporate and
consumer services create substantial opportunities to create novel
IS-enabled business services.
The information systems discipline thus needs to advance research on
phenomena related to IS as a service and IS-based
services. Researchers and practioners alike suffer from a lack of
theory-rooted knowledge for developing, engineering and managing
such services as well as leveraging IS for business service innovation.
At the same time, the success of services challenge established concepts
of the IS discipline, such as the clear separation between corporate IS
and consumer IS or internal IS and external services. Service-focused
research in IS thus need to create and refine concepts, models, methods,
and systems to reflect these developments.
Service research and service science span several disciplines, such as
marketing, operations management, innovation management, engineering,
computer science, and IS. Research on service engineering and management
thus learns from and contributes to a wider research
discourse. Moreover, the move into services is a global phenomenon and
increasingly a global marketplace that calls for relevant and rigorous
research that reaches across geographical and disciplinary boundaries.
The track welcomes empirical, theoretical and design work on IT-enabled
services as full research papers and research in progress papers.
Methodologically and epistemologically, the track is open to
all approaches and perspectives.
Topics of interest
The track seeks to attract research from a diversity of research
paradigms in three areas:
1) Rethinking IS as service:
- IT service management and service capability management
- Service governance, risk, and compliance
- Service architecture and modularity
- Service lifecycle management
- Service portfolio management
- Service requirements management
- User-generated services
2) Leveraging IS for value creation with service:
- IS and service business model innovation
- Data-driven services
- (Consumer) information services
- Mobile services
3) Theorizing service beyond IS:
- Contributions to interdisciplinary service science research from an IS
vantage point
- Service systems
- Reference models / meta models of service(s) / Service ontologies
- IS and value co-creation/resource integration

First Open EIT ICT Labs Workshop on Smart Grid Security
SmartGridSec12
Berlin, December 3rd, 2012
Call for Contributions (Talks and Poster Presentations)
>> Forward to colleagues who may be interested. <<
General Information
The First Open EIT ICT Labs Workshop on Smart Grid
Security, an activity of the action line smart energy
systems of the EIT ICT Labs, will be held at the EIT ICT
Co-Location Centre Node Berlin, alongside the 2012 Berlin
IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Conference, on December 3rd,
2012. The Co-location Centre (CLC) is inside the campus of
TU Berlin, in the heart of the city's west - a hotspot
where education, research and industry, see
http://eit.ictlabs.eu/ictlabs/
nodes-co-location-centres/berlin/. SmartGridSec12 is also
co-sponsored by the Network of Excellence on Engineering
Secure Future Internet SW, NESSoS, www.nessos-project.eu/
Context and Motivation
The need for a reliable, efficient, and sustainable energy
supply is steadily increasing. The Smart Grid is proposed
as an innovative, flexible, adaptable system which
revolutionizes the current interconnection architecture and
creates new services and offering new management and
business opportunities for many stakeholders. Real-time
communication between the consumer and the utility will
allow the consumer to optimize local energy production,
storage and usage; power will flow in different directions,
depending on where generation takes place; buildings will
actively participate of in the grid as consumers,
producers, and energy storage facilities; electro-cars can
be charged during low-demand periods and used as short-term
energy storage.
Components will communicate with each other and will
provide operational and nonoperational information to users
and administrators. This will require the use of global
communication networks, like the Internet, and will open
the door to conventional hacking and to cyber attacks. Not
only will it be necessary to carefully assess the threads
and risks, but also to have a consensus on the definition
and implementation of measures and mechanisms to cope with
them, or to recover from them. The infrastructure,
workflows, processes and systems must be protected against
unauthorized modification, required information should be
accessible in the right place at the right time, the
sensitive personally identifiable information (PII) related
to the consumption of energy, the location of the electric
car, but also confidential business information etc must
remain secure from unauthorized access.
There is a clear need in Europe to integrate the fragmented
research and development efforts in securing the Smart
Grid. This workshop will be a venue to share and
consolidate results, plan joint work, and create networks
to accomplish these ambitioned goals.
Program Committee welcomes proposals for contributions on
any topics related to:
- Attackers, Threats, Risk Analysis
- Security of Smart Grid protocols
- IDS / IPS / SIEM for Smart Grids / SCADA systems
- Security related Smart Grid test beds and simulators
- Security for long term deployment
- Securing the Smart Grids from the business and market
perspective: Products, Stakeholders, Models
- Cross organizational security aspects
- Real-time monitoring and recovery
- Privacy issues
- Standardization
- Certification, Regulatory issues

-- CALL FOR PAPERS - Deadline for submissions: 29 October
2012 --
*IADIS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE MOBILE LEARNING 2013*
Lisbon, Portugal, 14 to 16 March 2013
(http://www.mlearning-conf.org/
** Conference background and goals*
*Free as Birds Learning in the Cloud*
Mobile learning is concerned with a society on the move. In
particular, with the study of “…how the mobility of learners
augmented by personal and public technology can contribute
to the process of gaining new knowledge, skills and
experience” (Sharples et al. 2007).
A growing understanding of the learning and instructional
affordances of mobile technologies (alongside technological
developments), have enabled the design and investigation of
mobile learning experiences across contexts and dimensions
of mobile learning. For instance, the literature in the
field is rich in studies which investigate how learners move
physical locations, utilising several devices/technologies,
interacting with various social networks (perhaps across
formal and informal learning settings), as they pursuit a
learning path or event.
There is much appreciation of learning principles, such as
contextual, situated, augmented and collaborative among
others, particularly suited to mobile learning. There is a
well of studies reporting on how these principles can be
best applied in the field. There are also always new
technologies being implemented in the context of mobile
learning for example, ‘smarter’ phones, e-readers, tablet
and augmented reality applications. However, the evaluation
of mobile learning is an area that has lagged behind.
The mobile nature of mobile learners and the application of
traditional evaluation strategies and tools, have often
limited the scope of investigation to what can be observed
by researchers or captured by external recording devices
(such as video or sound). Thus, a challenge remains to
understand what happens while learners are on the move.
The advent of cloud computing and learning analytics offer
potential for exploring innovative mobile learning
experiences and alternative evaluation strategies which may
in turn, shade light into what learning happens in the move.
The IADIS Mobile Learning 2013 International Conference
seeks to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion
of mobile learning research which illustrate developments in
the field.
** Format of the Conference
*The conference will comprise of invited talks and oral
presentations. The proceedings of the conference will be
published in the form of a book and CD-ROM with ISBN, and

Subject: [AISWorld] Call for minitrack proposals for the IS
Philosophy Track at AMCIS 2013
Date: Tue, 2 Oct 2012 17:49:19 -0500
From: Nik R Hassan <nhassan(a)d.umn.edu>
To: AISWorld <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
IS Philosophy Track AMCIS 2013
Philosophy for a Hyperconnected World
Â
The IS Philosophy track at AMCIS has always been a popular
track for attendees. The IS Philosophy track is accepting
proposals for Minitracks. The theme for AMCIS 2013 is
*Hyperconnected World: Anything Anywhere Anytime*. Â
Following the spirit of the theme, it would not be too
difficult to imagine the opportunities and philosophical
problems a hyperconnected world presents. To submit a
minitrack proposal,*Â *you must send in a) minitrack chairs
(names, emails, affiliation); b) minitrack title; c) short
description of minitrack for the AMCIS 2013 website (up to
150 words); d) call for papers for your minitrack to:
http://aisel.aisnet.org/amcis2013_minitracks/. The deadline
for proposal submissions is October 18, 2012. THAT'S ONLY
TWO WEEKS AWAY! Information about minitracks is available at
http://amcis2013.aisnet.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=84….
Â
The IS Philosophy track description is provided below
Track Chairs:
Â
Nik Hassan, University of Minnesota Duluth,Â
nhassan(a)d.umn.edu <mailto:nhassan@d.umn.edu>
Â
Alan Litchfield, Auckland University of Technology,Â
alan.litchfield(a)aut.ac.nz <mailto:alan.litchfield@aut.ac.nz>
Track Description:
Â
As a field of research, Information Systems (IS) can no
longer be regarded as a fresh poppy in the domain of
scientific research, and the time has passed where IS ought
to have built a solid core of theory (Litchfield, 2012).
This stance is supported by Lakatos (1970) who says: in any
field of research, terms must be agreed to from a hardened
core around which theories can be established, providing a
buffer against attack and where weak theories are tested and
fail without harming the field itself. For example,
Schneberger and Wade (2010) list some 74 theories that have
their roots in human related activities from sociology,
economics, and politics, to computer science, engineering,
mathematics, and physics. Of those, what are the criteria
for determining core theory?
Â
The Philosophical Perspectives in IS track provides a forum
for scholars to discuss and reflect on the present state of
IS research and its future prospects. We invite papers that
discuss philosophical aspects of the IS field from all IS
domains, and from all angles and levels of inquiry.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* The relevance of philosophy to the IS field
* Reviews and redefinitions of philosophy in specific
domains (e.g. philosophy of IS education, philosophy of
human computer interaction, philosophy of IS
development, philosophy of IS security, etc.)
* Critical evaluations of the metaphysical, ontological,
epistemological and axiological foundations of IS
research methods
* Identifying novel research philosophies and thus
research approaches, methods and perspectives for the IS
field
* In the age of the global village, hyperconnected,
socially-networked society, and organizations without
boundaries, what shape will the IS field take and how
will its status as a reference discipline shift?
* How might we approach both information sharing and data
protection from a variety of philosophical approaches?
For example, is the disruptive force of WikiLeaks more
beneficial or harmful to societies as a whole?
* Applications of specific philosophical theories or
methods (such as phenomenology, hermeneutics, critical
realism, and others)
* Sociomaterial philosophy and methodology
* Philosophical issues in quantitative, qualitative and
mixed methods
* Ethical and normative issues
* New approaches to advance IS identity and relevance
