ICST Transactions on e-Education and e-Learning - Call for Papers
http://icst.org/e-education-and-e-learning/
Scope
Education is one domain that has accompanied civilization through the
centuries, adapting its tools to fulfill the expectations of the
students and the needs of the teachers. Such tools can be as obvious and
traditional as pencils and a notebook, or as complex and innovative as
websites and multi-user virtual environments. Typical in-person learning
environments, such as classrooms and meeting rooms, are at times not the
best solution to enable and maximize a student’s ability to learn.
Although they do fulfill their purpose of giving students the
possibility of reaching course material and instructors, they also
create a barrier that cannot be easily overcome.
Web-based instruction and multi-user virtual environments break the
time-limited barrier innate to typical lectures and explore, through
innovative technologies, a concept as old as humankind: socialization
and the feeling of belonging to a community. Many universities, public
institutions and private businesses are projecting themselves on the
Internet and in virtual worlds to reach the customer at any time, giving
them the idea of virtual presence that cannot be delivered through a
simple website.
Topics to be discussed in this journal focus on (but not limited to) the
following concepts:
• Teaching / Educational Models and Frameworks
• Accessibility and usability of web-based instruction in the classroom
• Best Practices
• Developing courses and content to be used in on-line educational
environments
• Student engagement
• Experiments
• Impacts of on-line on traditional teaching and learning strategies

Unique Advantages of Publishing with ICST
ICST offers authors the revolutionary e-SCRIPTS system – a Web 2.0-based
peer-review and manuscript management application that guarantees
objective and fast reviewing, through an innovative reviewer bidding
process that automatically matches the most qualified reviewer to the
paper based on internationally recognized indicators such as H-index.
Also based on that, acceptance decisions are expected to be now made in
weeks instead of many months. In addition, ICST provides extremely short
publication times by posting the paper on-line immediately after
acceptance and extreme visibility/impact to the scientific community via
synergies with the other ICST tools such as EU Digital Library and a
broad abstract dissemination channel without compromises on the
protection of authors’ intellectual property. All these innovative
aspects are coupled with traditional elements of technical excellence,
such as indexing by ISI, EI, DBLP, INSPEC, Google Scholar, and all other
major indexing organizations, as well as ISSN registration.
In short: fast and high-quality review; rapid publication; innovative
publishing tools; and decision-making really open to the community.
Special Issues Proposals
ICST Transactions on e-Education and e-Learning is aiming at devoting
space for special issues on specific topics proposed by Guest Editors.
We welcome special issues proposals: for instructions on their
submission, please contact the giovanni.vincenti(a)icst.org or eeel(a)icst.org.
What to submit
Original unpublished contributions are solicited that can improve the
knowledge and practice in the field. Tutorial and survey articles of
permanent reference value are also welcome.
Submissions must be original and should not have been published, or
submitted for publication, elsewhere. Authors are encouraged to submit
extended versions of papers previously presented at a conference or
workshop with clear indication of how the paper has been extended for
the journal submission.
This journal is being submitted to ISI, EI, DBLP, INSPEC, Google
Scholar, and all other major indexing organizations. ISSN # 2032-9253
When to submit
The ICST Transactions on e-Education and e-Learning are always accepting
submissions from authors on a rolling basis. We recommend that authors
submit the first draft of their work to the Editors-in-Chief by January
15 in order to ensure the publication of the material by the Summer issue.

(in conjunction with International Conference on Information Systems)
The purpose of this workshop is to provide a forum to discuss new
research directions in the area of business process management and
business service automation. A critical goal of the workshop is to
cultivate high quality research concerning Internet-enabled business
processes and services, which include new technological advances such as
cloud computing, mobile commerce, service virtualization, and big data
analysis.
This workshop aims to extend the boundaries of research in business
process management by integrating new elements that have not been
sufficiently emphasized in the past. The recent rapid advances in
information systems have created both challenges and opportunities to
develop new business services via innovative business processes. For
instance, we know how to automate routine, formal business processes but
have not really attempted computerizing ad hoc processes that may emerge
spontaneously and have short life span. These may include examples like
setting up ad hoc meetings that may involve a number of people from
different places, different IT devices and platforms, an evolving
agenda, a set of documents as inputs and outputs and some decisions and
outcomes. Such meetings are often very valuable but also time consuming
to organize and manage.
Another important area of interest of this workshop is to promote
theoretical efforts in business processes. The business process modeling
and automation research has been largely driven by the need to solve
practical problems. There has been a lack of strong theories in this
area and we believe that it is essential to develop new theories about
business process and service automation. The Process Virtualization
Theory (http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1085328),
proposed by Eric Overby, presents an excellent example of such theories
and provides a great starting point for a theoretical discussion at the
workshop.
Given the nature and purposes of this workshop, we invite papers of no
more than five pages that are well articulated and formatted in _single
line spacing, Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1 inch margins_.We particularly
seek position papers but also welcome conceptual papers with a strong
theoretical flavor, as well as completed research papers or
research-in-progress papers. Suggested research topics include, but not
limited to, the following ones:
·Cloud computing and process management
·Collaborative processes in social media
·Coordination and cooperation mechanisms for process management
·Data mining for process technologies and management
·Financial service applications
·Frameworks and methodologies for collaboration processes
·Healthcare and process management
·Human resource management under distributed process technologies
·Metrics and measurements in business processes and services
·Evaluations of business process and service implementations
·Mobile commerce and process management
·Organization and culture issues in process automation
·Process competencies in information intensive businesses
·Process management methodologies
·Business process theories and applications
·Technology and architecture issues in process driven organizations
·Telecommuting and process modeling
·Workflows in collaborative operations and systems
·Consequences of process and service virtualization
·Possible emergence of novel virtual intermediaries
·Public policy implications

*AMCIS 2013 Call For Minitrack Proposals : Enterprise Systems Track*
We invite the submission of minitrack proposals for the Enterprise Systems
track at the 19th Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS
2013), which will be held on August 15-17, 2013 in Chicago. AMCIS 2013
brings together academics and industry professionals around the world to
exchange knowledge related to the AMCIS 2013 theme, Hyperconnected
World: Anything Anywhere Anytime.
*IMPORTANT DATES*
October 18, 2012: Minitrack proposals due
November 19, 2012: Revised Minitrack proposal due
January 4, 2013: Manuscript submissions for AMCIS 2013 begin
*Track co-chairs: *
* Randy Bradley, University of Tennessee
* Reneé Pratt, Washington & Lee University
* Carsten Brockmann, University of Potsdam
*Track Summary:*
The introduction, use and maintenance of enterprise systems (ES) require
a significant investment of organizational energy and resources. As such,
ES represent the largest IS investment an organization is likely to
make. Many
organizations are now upgrading, replacing, or extending their original
ES. Early
versions of ES provided back office functionality that integrated a
range of internal
business processes, whereas modern ES have evolved to include support for a
variety of front office and inter-organizational activities and
processes, such as
customer relationship management (CRM) and supply chain management (SCM).
The design of such large integrated systems represents a major technical
challenge,
requiring new ways of thinking about business processes, system
development,
and enterprise architecture.
Because of both their size and their integrated nature, ES are difficult
to implement
and are associated with a variety of organizational changes. Organizations
expect, but unfortunately do not always realize, significant benefits
from their
sizable investments in ES. Because of the importance of ES in
organizations,
educators continue to explore approaches for introducing ES into IS and
other business curricula.
Suggested topics/minitracks include, but are not limited to:
*Case studies of enterprise systems
*Business models of ES providers
*Maintenance of ES
*Introduction of ES
*ES in health care
*ES technologies
*ES development
Minitrack chairs will be responsible for a) promoting their minitrack to
generate manuscript submissions to AMCIS 2013; b) soliciting and
assigning reviewers for manuscripts submitted to the minitrack; and c)
making recommendations to track chairs about each manuscript submitted
