The 2012 Workshop on the Security of the Internet of Things (SecIoT'12)
Munich (Germany), July 30, 2012
http://www.nics.uma.es/seciot12
in conjunction with
IEEE ICCCN 2012, July 30 – August 2, 2012
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Important Dates:
----------------
Paper Submission due: March 9, 2012
Acceptance notification: April 25, 2012
Final papers due: May 10, 2012
Overview/Scope:
---------------
While there are many definitions of the Internet of Things (IoT), all of
them revolve around the same central concept: a world-wide network of
interconnected objects. These objects will make use of multiple
technological building blocks (e.g. wireless communication, sensors,
actuators, RFID) and connectivity paradigms (e.g. cloud-based
infrastructures, P2P systems) in order to allow people and things to be
connected anytime anyplace, with anything and anyone. However, mainly due
to the inherent heterogeneity of this vision and its broad scope, there
will not be a single silver bullet security solution that will fulfill all
the security requirements of the IoT. Therefore: How can we include
security as a core element of the IoT? How will the IoT interact with
other security mechanisms of the Future Internet? What security
requirements will be truly challenged by the ultimate vision of the IoT?
It is precisely the goal of this workshop to bring together researchers
and industry experts in areas relevant to the security of the Internet of
Things to discuss these and other significant issues. Moreover, this
workshop also has the objective to serve as a forum not only for
presenting cutting-edge research, but also for debating the role of
security and its practical implications in the development of the IoT.
Topics of interest for the workshop include the following:
----------------------------------------------------------
* New security problems in the context of the IoT.
* Privacy risks and data management problems.
* Identifying, authenticating, and authorizing entities.
* Development of trust frameworks for secure collaboration.
* New cryptographic primitives for constrained "things".
* Connecting heterogeneous ecosystems and technologies.
* Legal challenges and governance Issues.
* Resilience to external and internal attacks.
* Context-Aware security.
* Providing protection to an IP-connected IoT.
* Web services security and other application-layer issues.
* Security of cloud-based M2M/IoT platforms.
* Distributed policy enforcement and rights management.
* Usability of security and privacy technologies in the context of the
IoT.

CALL FOR PAPERS
7th Workshop on Security and High Performance Computing Systems
(SHPCS 2012)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
As part of
The International Conference on High Performance Computing& Simulation -
(HPCS 2012)
http://hpcs2012.cisedu.info/
July 2-6, 2012
Madrid, Spain
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: February 11, 2012
SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES
Providing high performance computing and security is a challenging task.
Internet, operating systems and distributed environments currently suffer
from poor security support and cannot resist common attacks. Adding
security measures typically degrade performance. This workshop addresses
relationships between security and high performance computing systems in
three directions.
First, it considers how to add security properties (authentication,
confidentiality, integrity, non-repudiation, access control) to high
performance computing systems. In this case, safety properties can also
be addressed, such as availability and fault tolerance for high performance
computing systems. Second, it covers how to use high performance computing
systems to solve security problems. For instance, a grid computation can
break an encryption code, or a cluster can support high performance intrusion
detection. More generally, this topic addresses every efficient use of a high
performance computing systems to improve security. Third, it investigates the
tradeoffs between maintaining high performance and achieving security in
computing systems and solutions to balance the two objectives. In all these
directions, various performance analyses or monitoring techniques can be
conducted to show the efficiency of a security infrastructure.
The workshop seeks submissions from academia and industry presenting novel
research on all theoretical and practical aspects of computer and network
security, as well as case studies and implementation experiences. Papers
should have practical relevance to the construction, evaluation,
application, or operation of secure systems.

CALL FOR PAPERS

AMCIS 2012 Track on Decision Support, Data Management
Systems, Knowledge Management, and Business Intelligence
(sponsored by AIS SIGDSS)
Mini-Track Title: Predictive Analytics
************************************************* *
*Description*
The term Predictive Analytics stems from the field of
Business Intelligence. Business Intelligence is concerned
with the support of decision-making. Decisions are by nature
future oriented (past and presence cannot be influenced
anymore). In any case of uncertainty about the future,
forecasts are necessary to provide a decision support.
Predictive Analytics is a form of data analysis to gather
information and apply methods to predict future
developments. Therefore, Predictive Analytics can be
regarded as a conceptual part of Business Intelligence. But
still there is a discussion whether the term is just a vogue
expression or whether it can differentiate itself from
existing fields like data mining or knowledge discovery. It
is perceptible that a couple of publications focus mainly on
empirical evaluation. Of course, such a development is
comparable to other academic fields like Knowledge Discovery
in Databases which emerged from a practical side as well. To
establish it as a field of research, more theoretical
background is needed and models need to be provided which
describe the process of prediction and the usage of the
different methods like simulation or Data Mining. The aim
of the minitrack is to address aspects of academic
background and practical ones as well. With a critical
perspective all aspects of the described field need to be
regarded to support an academic perception of the research
field.

*Topics are (but not limited to):*
·Definition and theoretical background of predictive analytics
·Methods of Predictive Analytics
·Data Mining, Knowledge Discovery in Databases, Simulation,

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last seven years, the European Workshop on RFID
Systems and Technologies (RFID SysTech) had become a central
platform in Europe for personal networking and information
exchange in the field of smart object technologies and
applications. Based on this great success we are now proud
to announce the first Smart SysTech - European Conference on
Smart Objects, Systems and Technologies to be held in Munich
from June 12th to June 13th. This change is accompanied by
an extension of our main topic. While RFID remains one of
the cornerstones, we open the focus of the event. This is
due to the fact that AutoID technologies and the “Internet
of Things” have grown together to advanced networked “Smart
Objects” technologies.
While the networking of objects for the purpose of data
collection and distributed control is no longer a recent
phenomenon, the sheer number of things that are networked to
information systems has dramatically risen. Today, the
Internet is increasingly extended to all kinds of physical
assets: product components, finished products, logistic
units, equipment, documents, vehicles, buildings and
electronic meters as well as embedded systems of all kind.
Mature industries, like the energy or automotive are in
euphoric mood and accordingly, we see enormous research and
technological development activity: For instance, Auto-ID
technologies, such as RFID, are being increasingly combined
with data storage capacity and sensors or other
communication devices that provide real-time data such as
position, temperature, pressure, vibrations etc. These
special-purpose computer systems are able to sense
information from the real world or perform actions upon it
and are also able to communicate with other networked
computer systems.
The resulting integration into existing business processes
and IT infrastructures under the side condition of enabling
an interaction between intelligent objects and business
applications within and between enterprises in a generic,
flexible and scalable manner is a considerable challenge. At
the same time, the economic potential is promising and will
also help enterprises to address completely new challenges
in the area of sustainability and energy management, home
automation and demand respond: Interacting with smart
devices will ensure that enterprises get correct, auditable
trails for sustainability metrics or billing information for
recharging electric cars. However, business-to-business
integration solutions such as the EPCglobal network or other
bilateral approaches have to be developed further in order
to meet the supporting requirements.
The specific profile of this conference is to examine both
the technology and economic aspects:
• the latest achievements in technologies and systems for
smart objects
• their integration into information systems and business
processes and
• their business value.
Scientists and practicians from the fields of electrical
engineering, computer science and information systems will
find an excellent opportunity to participate in
interdisciplinary discussions, set up new networks and
exchange information on a professional level. In addition to
the conference and a poster session, an industrial
exhibition and demo session presenting the latest
innovations will be held.

CALL FOR PAPERS - 18th Americas Conference on Information
Systems (AMCIS)
Minitrack"Advancing Enterprise Resource Planning Through
Technology"
August 9-12, 2012, Seattle, WA, USA
**********************************************************
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems have evolved from
large monolithic systems to more and more fragmented systems
distributing just about any aspect of a system: functions,
processes, data, hardware and infrastructure. This change
has gone hand in hand with the incorporation of more and
more business functionality into ERP. Starting from material
requirements planning (MRP) and manufacturing resource
planning (MRP II), the financial and human resources
functions as well as executive information systems and
eventually long-term strategic planning support for senior
management have been included. These developments have made
an ERP system "the" core information system of an
organization -- and the technological backbone that other
information systems need to collaborate with. ERP related
functionality such as supply chain management (SCM),
customer relationship management (CRM) and supplier
relationship management (SRM) is either integrated, embedded
or closely coupled with an ERP system.
Software, hardware and networking technology has enabled the
increased importance of ERP systems, but it also posed
technological and managerial challenges. In contrast to the
early ERP monoliths, we nowadays have distributed
architectures -- both conventional in-house architectures
such as client-server and service oriented architectures
(SOA) as well as externally hosted architectures used by
application-service-providing (ASP) and software-on-demand
solutions. With the appearance of mobile commerce,
software-as-a-service (SaaS) approaches and cloud computing,
additional challenges have emerged.
Technologies such as radio frequency identification (RFID)
have opened up new opportunities for an organization to act
and react in real-time. RFID, smart items and the "Internet
of things" impose new requirements on ERP systems, such as
being capable of context-aware information processing.
For the new technologies to be successfully implemented,
security issues need to be resolved and a satisfactory level
of trust in the technologies has to be created.
Organizations seem to be hesitant about having their
mission-critical business processes run somewhere out in a
"cloud" and maintaining their core business data in a
nirvana. Neverthelsee, cloud computing is rapidly gaining pace.
In the past, the vendors of software-on-demand solutions
have not been able to generate significant revenue from this
type of solution. This is about to change, as cloud
computing is penetrating every branch of business
information processing.
The rationale of this minitrack is exploration of new
technologies that can further enhance enterprise resource
planning. We invite papers that pursue a constructionist
approach to information systems development, following an
engineering-like or design-science research style. Papers
presenting the development of prototypes as a proof of
concept are welcome. Technology-oriented papers should give
consideration to the business value of the proposed
approaches or solutions.
*Suggested Topics*
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
·Architectures for ERP and related business information systems
·ERP systems based on service oriented architectures (SOA)
·Software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions for ERP and related
areas
·Orchestrating an ERP system from web services/enterprise
services
·ERP on demand for small and medium-size enterprises
·Federated ERP systems, standardization and collaboration issues
·ERP and cloud computing
·Impact of virtualization and infrastructure-as-a-service on ERP
·Integrating RFID solutions with ERP
·Impact of the "Internet of things" on future ERP systems
·Integrating legacy ERP systems with new components using
state-of-the-art technologies
·Mobile ERP and related areas such as mobile SCM, mobile CRM
and mobile SRM
·Security issues and trust in new technologies for
enterprise resource planning

Research in the area of BPM has traditionally focused on the
development and extension of associated tools, methods,
standards and technologies. However, when evaluating the
suitability of existing BPM technology for a particular
project, it is important for practitioners and academics
alike to have an informed opinion about their qualities and
deficiencies.
Over recent years, the development of insights and
evaluations of BPM technology based on empirical research
has gained prominence in the community. The introduction of
empirical research methods such as experimental, survey,
case study or modeling and simulation methods into BPM (as
well as into the development of process-aware information
systems) has begun to provide more valid, quantitative or
qualitative data on the various aspects, effects and
consequences of BPM technology in use. These insights are
important, not only for IT professionals, but also for
researchers dealing with analytical, theoretical or
technical challenges in the field of BPM. While early
results have been promising, the demand for empirical
insights into BPM and BPM technology remains strong.
Our ER-BPM'12 workshop continues to address this demand and
seeks to stimulate empirical research that, in turn, can
contribute to a better understanding of the problems,
challenges and existing solutions in the BPM field. In
particular, the workshop provides an interdisciplinary forum
for both researchers and practitioners to improve the
understanding of BPM-specific requirements, methods and
theories, tools and techniques. Therefore, the ER-BPM'12
workshop will deal with different facets of applying and
using BPM methods and technologies; and it will give new
insights into the challenges, applications, and perspectives
emerging for BPM technology.

reviewed by at least three members of the program committee,
and will be evaluated on the basis of significance,
originality, technical quality, and exposition. Papers
should clearly establish their research contribution and
shall particularly address the relation to transferring BPM
methods and technologies into practice. The workshop will
also comprise a demo sessions, where presenters can showcase
advanced prototypes based on their research.
*Format of the Workshop and Proceedings:*
**
The workshop will comprise presentations of accepted papers,
tool presentations, and keynotes. Moreover, the workshop
will also include an "Empirical Fair" (EF): Participating
practitioners can propose studies that their organizations
would like to have conducted, and researchers can propose
studies that they would like to conduct in industry. Doing
so, practitioners and researchers can create new networks
for further joint studies. In other words: The EF is a
meeting point to match demand and supply of empirical
studies among researchers and practitioners.
All accepted papers will appear in the workshop proceedings
published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Business
Information Processing (LNBIP) series. There will be a
single LNBIP volume dedicated to the proceedings of all BPM
workshops. As this volume will appear after the conference,
there will be informal proceedings during the workshop. At
least one author for each accepted paper must register for
the workshop and present the paper.
