===========================================================
Track: DATA AND INFORMATION QUALITY (SIGDQIQ)
Minitrack: DATA AND INFORMATION QUALITY OF UNSTRUCTURED DATA
August 9-12, 2012, Seattle, Washington
http://amcis2012.aisnet.org/
===========================================================
--- DESCRIPTION ---
Unstructured data include free-form text such as found in
word processing
documents, e-mail, Web pages, spreadsheets, and text files,
as well as
nontextual data?images, sound, video, and graphics.
Estimates of the proportion
of unstructured data in organizations are
staggering?analysts estimate that 80
percent of the data are unstructured. Analysts have also
observed that the major
drivers for unstructured data growth are Microsoft Office,
email attachments,
and backup and archival, as well as the generation of
multiple and distributed
copies of data. In particular, the Web is a primary
unstructured information
source for nearly every knowledge worker. Evidently,
organizations that rely
solely on structured, record-oriented data have incomplete
information.
In recent years, there is a growing interest in accessing
unstructured data and
utilizing them, often together with structured data.
Applications vary from
counter-terrorism and biomedical information extraction to
business
intelligence, customer relationship management, and more.
Although they have
enormous potential for improving the completeness of
information in particular
and its quality in general, unstructured data introduce
numerous new challenges
for data and information quality research.
We welcome papers that address technical, managerial, and/or
societal data
quality challenges or solutions for fulfilling the potential
of unstructured
data. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to,
the following list:
-- Data quality on the Web
-- Business intelligence with structured and unstructured data
-- Social aspects of data quality
-- Integration of structured and unstructured data
-- Reconciliation of comparable sources
-- Scalability and scalable solutions
-- Reusing and repurposing unstructured data
-- Governance of unstructured data
-- Cost and benefit assessments
-- Quality assessment methods and cleansing of complex data

Motivation
----------
Modern enterprises face a strong pressure to increase agility and competitiveness, to operate on the global market, and to engage in manifold alliances. However, the vast majority of strategic initiatives in enterprises fail, meaning that enterprises are unable to gain success from their strategy. The key reason for these failures is the lack of coherence and consistency among the various components of an enterprise. At the same time, the need to operate as a unified and integrated whole is becoming increasingly important. Currently, these challenges are dominantly addressed from a functional or managerial perspective, as advocated by the management and organization sciences, and as implemented in MBA programs. Such knowledge is indeed necessary for managing an enterprise, but it is inadequate for bringing about changes. To do that, one needs to take a constructional or engineering perspective. Only engineers bring about changes.
In addition, both organizations and software applications are complex systems, prone to entropy. This means that in the course of time, the costs of bringing about similar changes increase in a way that is known as combinatorial explosion. Entropy can be reduced and managed effectively through modular design based on atomic elements.
Lastly, the individual persons in an enterprise, in cooperation, are ultimately responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the enterprise. They are also collectively responsible for the evolution of the enterprise, in order to meet new challenges. These responsibilities can only be borne if members have an appropriate knowledge and an effective awareness of the construction of the enterprise.
Focus and Goal
--------------
The Enterprise Engineering Working Conference 2012 is the second working conference in the emerging field of Enterprise Engineering. The goal of the conference is to gather academics and practitioners in order to share innovative research issues and practical experiences, and to facilitate profound discussions about the challenges mentioned above. It is the mission of the discipline of Enterprise Engineering to develop new, appropriate theories, models, methods and other artifacts for the analysis, design, implementation, and governance of enterprises by combining (relevant parts of) management and organization science, information systems science, and computer science. The ambition is to address traditional topics in said disciplines from the Enterprise Engineering Paradigm (www.ciaonetwork.org/publications/EEManifesto.pdf). The result of the efforts should be theoretically
rigorous and practically relevant.
Topics of interest to this working conference include, but are not limited to:
* Enterprise Ontology
* Enterprise Architecture
* Enterprise Governance
* Enterprise modeling and simulation
* Domain ontologies
* Modeling (cross-enterprise) business processes
* Reference models for (cross-enterprise) business processes
* Business Process Management
* Business Rules Management
* Information systems design
* Information system architectures
* Component based system design
* Service Oriented Design
* Business process modeling and simulation
* Participatory systems
Organization
------------
The Enterprise Engineering Working Conference 2012 follows the successful 1st EEWC in 2011, and the preceding series of workshops (CIAO!'10, CIAO!'09, CIAO!'08, MIOS-CIAO'06, MIOS-INTEROP'05, MIOS'04) held at the DESRIST, CAiSE and OTM Federated conferences.
We are looking for articles on current or recently finished research projects as well as articles from practitioners. Based on our motivating experience of the previous workshops and working conference, the Enterprise Engineering Working Conference 2012 is planned to be a real working conference, providing ample time for profound discussions following short presentations.
Publication
-----------
The EEWC proceedings will be published in the Springer LNBIP series "Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing".

CALL FOR PAPERS
18th Americas Conference on Information Systems
Seattle, Washington <x-apple-data-detectors://0>, August
9-12, 2012 <x-apple-data-detectors://1>
Track: Social Issues and Social Inclusion
Minitrack: The Dark Side of Social Networking -- Social and
Ethical Issues
DESCRIPTION
Online social networks are web-based services, platforms, or
sites that /â??/allow individuals to (1) construct a public
or semi-public profile within a bounded system, (2)
articulate a list of other users within whom they share a
connection, and (3) view and traverse their list of
connections and those made by others within their system/â??
/(Boyd and Ellison, 2008). By facilitating the establishment
and maintenance of social relations as well as the sharing
of interests and activities within individual networks,
social networking sites (such as Facebook, Twitter,
LinkedIn, MySpace, YouTube, and more recently Google+) have
become increasingly integrated in our modern culture,
changing the way we work, study, play and socialize, and how
we spend time and money.
Notwithstanding the many personal, educational, and work
benefits offered by online social networks, their use raises
a variety of social and ethical concerns (e.g., privacy and
security threats, cyber-bullying, addiction, deception,
censorship and surveillance). The objective of this
mini-track is to develop theoretical insight and
understanding on topics and issues that address the
*/troubling/* or */dark/* side of online social networks. We
welcome conceptual, theoretical, and empirical papers that
enrich our understanding of the social and ethical issues of
online social networks.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
-- Privacy risks
-- Security vulnerabilities
-- Cyber-bullying and cyber-stalking
-- Social network addiction
-- Risk to child safety
-- Risk to reputation and confidentiality
-- Violations of intellectual property right
-- Ethical issues in social network analysis and mining
-- Risk of identity theft
-- Deception on social networks
-- Reduction in productivity and disruption to working
environment
-- Negative impact of social networking on relationships
(e.g., social isolation and distraction from quality
relationships)
-- Negative health consequences (e.g., personality and brain
disorder) associated with the use of social networking sites
-- Social network surveillance
-- Social network censorship
