An important mission of WORLDCOMP is "Providing a unique platform for
a diverse community of constituents composed of scholars, researchers,
developers, educators, and practitioners. The Congress makes concerted
effort to reach out to participants affiliated with diverse entities
(such as: universities, institutions, corporations, government agencies,
and research centers/labs) from all over the world. The congress also
attempts to connect participants from institutions that have teaching as
their main mission with those who are affiliated with institutions that
have research as their main mission. The congress uses a quota system to
achieve its institution and geography diversity objectives."
One main goal of the congress is to assemble a spectrum of affiliated
research conferences, workshops, and symposiums into a coordinated
research meeting held in a common place at a common time. This model
facilitates communication among researchers in different fields of
computer science, computer engineering, and applied computing. The
Congress also encourages multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary
research initiatives; ie, facilitating increased opportunities for
cross-fertilization across sub-disciplines. 32229

MEASURABLE SCIENTIFIC IMPACT OF WORLDCOMP:
As of November 23, 2011, papers published in WORLDCOMP set of proceedings
have received 15,860 citations. In recent months (March to November 2011),
there had been 1,475 citations to WORLDCOMP papers (about 164 citations per
month). The above record is significant (thanks to the authors). As the
result of high impact (based on citations) of WORLDCOMP papers, "Microsoft
Academic Search" has listed each individual track of the congress among its
compiled list of "Top Conferences". The citation record of WORLDCOMP set of
proceedings is in fact higher than the citation data of many reputable
journals in computer science and computer engineering. (The above citation
data does not include citations to WORLDCOMP papers published in 2011; thus,
it is highly probable that the actual number of citations is higher;
citation data was obtained from http://academic.research.microsoft.com/ )

In recent years, Business Process Management (BPM), a set of
structured methods and
technologies for managing business processes, has emerged as
a powerful concept used by
organisations across all industries. Designing, measuring,
improving, simulating, and
controlling business processes has become the central
challenge to improve organisations´
performance and to ensure success in a highly competitive
world. As a result, the need for
BPM expertise is increasing with many BPM-related roles
emerging, which often requires
new sets of skills. Thus, BPM education has been raised as a
perennial topic.
The topic of BPM education has many different facets. For
example, the challenges of
converting the ?function-oriented? organisations and its
employees to process-oriented
thinkers; effectively training employees to select and use
the specific methods and tools for
managing business processes within the different areas of
designing, measuring, improving,
simulating, and controlling, and the overall challenges of
teaching a complex multidisciplinary
domain like BPM. Furthermore, it is recognised that BPM
education is not only
required for those in BPM specific roles in an organisation,
but an essential requirement for
employees on all levels including top executives,
supervisory board members, workers
associations, and other stakeholders ? to ensure acceptance
and support for improvement
initiatives. The required skill sets for BPM capabilities
are very diverse and include business
skills, technical skills, and a range of soft-generic-skills
such as facilitation, negotiation,
relationship, and change management, and to date there is a
lack and a need for a clear body
of BPM knowledge. A further challenge is how to spread
BPM-related knowledge to all
levels of an organization to ensure BPM thinking is embedded
in all daily actions. Subsequently,
there are many issues awaiting to be examined, studied, and
addressed.
This special issue of the KM&EL international journal is
dedicated to learning, instructing,
and disseminating knowledge in the field of BPM. In this
call, we invite manuscripts that
report empirical studies (both quantitative and qualitative)
of investigating issues and
challenges related to BPM education as well as the use or
design of tools supporting teaching
efforts. In addition, this special issue welcomes
manuscripts discussing conceptual
frameworks or theoretical constructs related to learning,
teaching, and disseminating BPM
knowledge.
Recommended topics of interest include, but not limited to:
·Strategies of learning and educating about BPM
·What should be taught under the ?BPM? banner?
·**Curriculum design for BPM training in companies,
government, and universities
·Learners? perceptions and their impact on their
participation in BPM initiatives
·Learners? motivation in BPM initiatives
·Strategies and tools to facilitate learning in the BPM context
·Role of instructors, coaches, or facilitators in BPM
·Role plays and other tools for teaching purposes in BPM
projects
·New approaches to delivering BPM education, including the
use of collaborative
tools, Web-based conferencing, and social networking
·**Best practices for incorporating advanced information
technology into BPM education
·**Use of advanced technologies such as process simulation
for (distance) education
in BPM
·**Constructs and factors influencing the success of
learning and educating BPM
knowledge
·**Strategies and tools to facilitate peer interactions,
collaboration, and other learning
activities
·Setting up a BPM center of excellence to disseminate BPM
know-how
·Building, managing, and sustaining knowledge on BPM

The International Conference on Electronic Commerce (ICEC) is a forum
for the exchange of new ideas related to emerging technologies and
managerial practices in electronic commerce, IT services and mobile
business. ICEC attracts global leaders in research from industry and
academia. It recently has been held in Minneapolis (2007), Innsbruck
(2008), Taipei (2009), Honolulu (2010), and Liverpool (2011). ICEC 2012
in Singapore will feature: refereed paper presentations on leading
research issues; invited research sessions and keynote presentations;
and panels on emerging issues that bring academic and industry
participants together in dialogue. Because of ICEC's proximity to the
vibrant international business and high-tech setting of Singapore, we
expect to have involvement from business, technology and public policy
experts.
This ICEC has an exciting theme: "Competing on Real-Time Data Analytics:
Connecting the Virtual and Physical Worlds of Social Commerce." We
encourage development and presentation of research on real-time data
analytics in the context of social commerce, where there are many
applications. They range from delivery of location-based services in
mobile devices, to online booking systems in travel and hospitality
management, to risk management systems in financial services, to
e-gaming. We hope to make a unique data set available to researchers
interested in using it for research for ICEC 2012. We will host special
tracks on the development of research on real-time data analytics in
social commerce related to our research at the Living Analytics Research
Center.
In addition to data analytics in social commerce, ICEC 2012 seeks
submissions on topics that include but are not limited to: B2B/B2C
e-commerce, cloud computing and IT services, digital business models,
data mining and recommender systems, e-government, auctions and markets,
emerging IT, information privacy, Internet economics, Internet gaming,
legal issues in e-commerce, location-based systems, mobile and pervasive
commerce, Internet service pricing, recommender systems, secure

======================================================================
Web Personalization and recommendation systems have been steadily gaining ground as essential components of today's Web based applications, including in e-commerce and customer relationship management, in the delivery of business services, in providing support for Web search and navigation, and in reducing cognitive overload in information rich interactive social Web applications. The proliferation of Web 2.0 applications has allowed users to go beyond simple consumers of information and instead actively participate in shaping collaborative environments in which users, resources, and user-provided content are all networked together. This, in turn has increased the need for more intelligent and personalized services that help users interact with and navigate these complex information spaces. These include a new generation of recommender systems that integrate multiple online channels, are more scalable, are more adaptive, can better handle user interactivity, and are more adep
t at user preference elicitation. To achieve this, such applications must rely on intelligent techniques from AI, machine learning, Web mining, statistics, and user modelling in order to leverage all available data, including the usage and click-stream data (reflecting user behaviour), the content and meta-data associated with resources, semantic domain knowledge, user profile information, and underlying network structures. Efficient and intelligent techniques are needed to mine this data for actionable knowledge, and to effectively use the discovered knowledge to enhance the users' experience.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners From Web Mining, Web Personalization, Recommender Systems, and User Modeling communities in order to foster an exchange of information and ideas and to facilitate a discussion of current and emerging topics related to the development of intelligent Web personalization and Recommender Systems.
TOPICS OF INTEREST

Subject: [AISWorld] Workshop on Action Design Research
Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2012 22:00:16 +0000
From: Ola Henfridsson <ola.henfridsson(a)chalmers.se>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Action Design Research Workshop
Venue:
Aalto University School of Economics, Helsinki, Finland
12-13.3.2012
Instructors:
Maung Sein, Ola Henfridsson, Sandeep Purao, Matti Rossi,
Rikard Lindgren
Overview:
This two-day workshop aims at providing researchers engaging
in design research in organizations with hands-on guidance
on using Action Design Research (ADR) in their own projects.
ADR is recognized as a way of doing constructive research in
close co-operation between practitioners and researchers.
The method is based on the recognition that IS research
always has a dual mission, namely to (a) add to existing
theory, and (b) to produce knowledge to support
IS practitioners in solving current and
anticipated problems. We can achieve this by promoting
research, which is based on existing issues in practical
settings, aimed at improving the practice and solving
problems through employing information systems.
All authors of the 2011 MIS Quarterly article on "Action
Design Research" (Sein et al. 2011) will attend the workshop
and will give short presentations on different aspects of
ADR. However, the main part of the workshop will be devoted
to the cultivation of research ideas and projects of the
workshop participants. We will engage in dialogue with
the participants and ask people to share their experiences
and challenges in using this approach. Participants are
required to send in a brief description of the projects they
wish to develop and/or discuss at the workshop.
The workshop will consist of the following parts:
Part 1: ADR lectures (engaging practitioners, BIE cycles,
theorizing etc.)
Part 2: Workshop and project clinic
Part 3: Debates and discussions on interweaving research
and practice
Workshop organization:
Registration for the workshop is free and will include
lunches and refreshments. However, space is limited.
Interested participants should contact Matti Rossi
(matti.rossi(a)aalto.fi <mailto:matti.rossi@aalto.fi>) for
more information.
