Â
In the 21^st century, knowledge no longer exists in silos of
knowledge. Relevant and useful knowledge can be across
disciplines; beyond expected boundaries. Hence, effective
organizational learning requires efficient and effective
tools, which enable the user to effectively seek,
reconstruct and transform the information gathered into
meaningful and novel knowledge.
The transformation of information into knowledge involves an
iterative process. Learners need to /design, prototype and
test out/ alternative solutions by iteratively and
collaboratively investigating and designing and redesigning
goals that direct convergent and divergent search processes,
processes/behaviours and representations of knowledge
structures in relation to a systemic whole, to achieve more
effective processes and outcomes (Kolodner, Crismond, Fasse,
Gray, Holbrook and Puntembakar, 2003; Vattam, Goel,
Rugaber, Hmelo-Silver, Jordan, Gray and Sinha, 2011).
/Learning-by designing/thus adds the dimensions of
generative design questioning and deep reasoning and
synthesis to information discovery. By giving priority to
divergent thinking above convergent thinking, generation of
alternatives is likely to become richer. Ultimately, it is
hoped that learners will have more ideas (be more fluent),
have more categories of ideas (be more flexible), be more
novel and more practical and most importantly, be
intrinsically motivated and successful thinkers.
This special issue aims to present an overview of how design
thinking (especially with regards to creativity and
cognition), can be supported, managed and sustained through
the use of technology. Proposals sought range from lessons
from the industry to academia. The special issueâ??s scope
covers how intelligent technologies can scaffold creative
processes and how user experience can be augmented in
creative and engaging ways.
Recommended topics of interest include, but are not
limited to:
ï?·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Intelligent and creative interface design
ï?·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Building a community of inquiry, reflection
and collaborative creativity
ï?·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Roadmap: transitioning from experimental
stages to every day applications
ï?·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Visions on the future of the book
ï?·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Approaches, creative processes and
technologies for increased engagement
ï?·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Techniques towards enhancing user
experience: Augmented Reality, Augmented Books, Digital
Manipulatives, Tangible Interfaces.

CALL FOR PAPERS (Einreichung der Abstracts bis 10. Januar 2012!)
interPM 2012
IT-Projektmanagement 2012+
im Spagat zwischen Industrialisierung und Agilität?
11.-12. Mai 2012
Glashütten bei Frankfurt am Main
www.interpm.de
Eine gemeinsame Konferenz der
- Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. GI, Fachgruppe
Projektmanagement
- GPM Deutsche Gesellschaft für Projektmanagement e.V.
Ziele der Konferenz
===================
===============================================================================
Agiles Projektmanagement hat seinen Ursprung in
Softwareentwicklungsprojekten und hat sich dort in der
Praxis bewährt. Agile Vorgehensweisen, Scrum, SW-Kanban &
Entwicklungsvorgaben? Welche Besonderheiten agiler Verfahren
sind in industrialisierten Entwicklungen anwendbar? Und
welche Besonderheiten industrieller Entwicklungen sind in
agilen Verfahren einsetzbar?
Die Konferenz will hierbei folgende Fragestellungen und
Themen adressieren:
Standards industrieller Praxis?
- Welche alten und neuen Rollen gibt es? Brauchen wir
noch Projektmanager, Anforderungsspezialisten oder
Softwarearchitekten bzw. wer braucht welche Kompetenzen?
- Welche Auswirkungen hat agile Praxis auf die
Personalentwicklung, Karrieremodelle und das
Kompetenzmanagement in Unternehmen?
- Was ist die Essenz von Agilität und
Industrialisierung? Welches sind die grundlegenden
Prinzipien, die in unterschiedlichsten Kontexten entfaltet
werden müssen?
- Wie geht es weiter nach Agilität? Welche Grenzen im
Denken und Handeln beinhalten Scrum, Kanban & Co. und wie
können wir diese überwinden?
Konferenzverlauf
================
Die Konferenz bietet Fachvorträge mit Diskussionen sowie
Open Space Workshops und Fishbowl-Sessions für den
intensiven Erfahrungsaustausch. Im Mittelpunkt stehen ein
fachübergreifender Dialog zwischen den Teilnehmern und die
Vernetzung, auch über die Veranstaltung hinaus.

Theme and Topics:
*****************
Graphical representations are commonly used tools in many organizations, ranging form process models to conceptual models and mind maps. They are used to support multiple tasks such as software development, design and engineering, process optimization and reengineering, knowledge explication and transfer as well as marketing, strategic development and cooperation planning. These representations should not only be used by single users for special purposes, but rather to support a wide range of users and organizational issues such as shared understanding of work practices. This accounts for their development and their usage for everyday tasks. However, in practice they are hardly used by or available for non-experts – even if they are created collaboratively they still have little impact on actual work in these processes.
Today, we only know little about the interaction of non-expert users with models, that is, how people can make use of them in practice and interact with them. Supporting such interaction needs insights on means for increasing the usage and availability of models after their creation and on suitable tools and modes of interaction with models for people who are not modeling professionals. Also, there is a lack of knowledge on collaborative development of graphical representations, including processes of cooperation and settings for such development. Fostering the collaborative development of models and including non-expert users into this process needs ways to enable users to contribute actively to creation and maintenance, whether they are co-located or dislocated, synchronous or asynchronous in time or possess different levels of expertise in modeling.
This special issue intends to shed light on the collaborative usage and development of graphical representations such as models. For this, we welcome submissions dealing with theoretical frameworks, empirical and case study research as well as applications in the context of this area. Examples of topics for submissions include, but are not limited to the following:
* Designing means and functionality for user interaction with models and visualizations, e.g. contributing to models (formally and informally) and using them in daily work.
* Supporting work and collaboration with models and visualizations, e.g. communicating about models, using them for learning, reflection, documentation or knowledge transfer as well as collaborative design and engineering.
* Supporting collaborative development of models and visualizations, e.g. tools supporting collaborative modeling in collocated and remote settings, typical settings and roles in collaborative modeling.
* The influence of users on models (e.g. collaborative modeling participants’ influence on model outcomes) and the influence of models on users (e.g. users discussing a model and behavior changes)

CALL FOR PAPERS
18^th Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS 2012)
Seattle, Washington, August 9-12, 2012 (http://amcis2012.aisnet.org/)
Track: Virtual Communities and Virtual Worlds
Mini-Track: Social Analytics and Economics of Social Media
************************************************************
Deadline for paper submissions: March 1, 2012 (11:59 PM Pacific time zone)
=========================================================
Mini-Track Description:
==================
Social Media are generating an enormous social and economic impact. A
plethora of different Social Media platforms and technologies for social
networking (e.g., Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn), for knowledge and
multimedia sharing (e.g., Flickr, Wikipedia, YouTube), or for awareness
creation (e.g., Foursquare, Twitter) are changing not only our personal
but also organizational behavior. By revolutionizing communication,
collaboration, and consumption patterns within, across, and beyond
organizational boundaries, Social Media bears numerous challenges but
also unimagined possibilities for research and practice.
The availability of a profound amount of data on social structures and
interactions allows to reveal precious knowledge that was previously
unknown. For example, individuals and organizations are faced with
unique opportunities (e.g., via listening tools) to enrich their
understanding about the influence and the diffusion of information in
Social Media. Analyzing these data could consequently provide deeper
insights into how social structures, communication patterns, and
individuals' behavior evolve. Taken together, Social Analytics might
thus provide new perspectives on challenges and possibilities of Social
Media for providers (e.g., regarding advertisement, business models,
users churn), for organizations (e.g., regarding knowledge sharing,
crowdsourcing, viral diffusion, business value), and for societies in a
broader sense (e.g., regarding uprisings, public sentiment, financial
markets).
This mini-track is designed to stimulate rigorous and relevant
investigations in the context of Social Analytics and Economics of
Social Media. All lenses of inquiry are encouraged, including strategic,
organizational, behavioral, economic, and technical. We welcome
theoretical, analytical, design-oriented, and empirical research using
any kind of research method. Real world applications in respect to
particular industries such as retail and e-commerce are also
particularly welcome and encouraged.
Suggested Topics:
==============
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Evolution of communication and behavior patterns in Social Media
* Application of social network analysis and mining
* Diffusion of information in Social Media (e.g., real-time capture,
emerging phenomena)
* Sentiment analysis in Social Media (e.g., analysis and manipulation of
public sentiment)
* Identification of (sub)communities and their evolution over time
* Social Media and prediction
* Implications and potential of Social Media for marketing
* Business value of Social Media and business models for Social Media
providers
* The rise and fall of specific Social Media platforms (e.g., success
factors, churn prevention)
* Migration between Social Media platforms over time
* Social Media and Customer Relationship Management (e.g., customer
acquisition)
* Social Media and consumer behavior (e.g., social commerce)
* Social Media and recommendation systems
* Social Media and information search
* The use of Social Media in crowdsourcing
* The interplay between online and offline social networks
* The impact of Social Media in specific industries
