********************************************** CALL FOR
PAPERS *****************************************************
2nd Int?l Workshop on Variability-intensive Systems Testing,
Validation & Verification (VAST@ICST 2012)
Montreal, Canada 21st April 2012
http://www.s-cube-network.eu/VAST2
********************************************************************************************************************
WORKSHOP SCOPE
*******************
Variability is key enabler for most systems throughout their
development and evolution. Customer demand and continuously
changing context (environment, legal and business settings,
technology, etc.) call for more flexibility in software
engineering. This major trend impacts the whole engineering
process, with emerging key paradigms such as Software
Product Lines, Service-oriented Systems and Dynamically
Adaptive Systems. All these paradigms aim at providing
solutions to introduce and manage variability at different
stages of the life-cycle. Combinatorial explosion due to
variability is a common problem spanning over all these
paradigms.
Testing and verifying variability-intensive systems, thus,
becomes a key issue that is gaining increased attention in
practice. To date, specific techniques such as combinatorial
interaction testing and modular checking have been proposed
to tackle it. However, the field is still in its infancy.
Although first results showing promising outcomes, they need
to be fully developed and their practical applicability has
to be demonstrated. The integration and combination of V&V
techniques is a possible direction to address the
aforementioned challenges. Questions concerning the
scalability, quality and usability of the results as well as
integration during the overall system lifecycle still have
to be answered. Furthermore, being scattered across several
communities, some general advances may be difficult to share
and spread widely.
The objective of the 2nd International Workshop on
VAriability-intensive Systems Testing, Validation and
Verification is to provide a forum for researchers and
practitioners to share their ideas and results and to start
discussions on possible synergies and collaborative efforts
towards for testing, verification, and validation of
variability-intensive systems.

Introduction:
------------
Educational Data comes from educational settings, e.g.
interactive learning environments (multiple choice
questions, response time), computer aided collaborative
learning (online
learning data), and administrative data (demographics,
enrolment). It has the following typical characteristics:
multiple levels of meaningful hierarchy (subject,
assignment, and
question levels), time, sequence, context (a particular
student in a particular class encountering a particular
question in a particular problem on a particular computer at a
particular time on a particular date), fine-grained (record
data at different resolutions to facilitate different
analyses, e.g. record data every 10s) and longitudinal
(large data
recorded for many sessions for a long period of time, e.g.
spanning semester land year long courses).
Educational Data Mining (EDM), a newly emerging
inter-disciplinary research field in the discipline of
computational intelligence, focuses on Knowledge
Discovery and Data Mining techniques to analyse data from
educational settings, including interactive learning
systems, intelligent tutoring systems and institutional
administration
data. The primary goal of EDM is to uncover scientific

Description
During the past decades the main problem in
geographical analysis was the lack of spatial
data availability. Nowadays the wide diffusion of
electronic devices containing geo-referenced
information generates a great production of
spatial data. Volunteered geographic information
activities (e.g. Wikimapia, OpenStreetMap),
public initiatives (e.g. Spatial Data
Infrastructures, Geo-portals) and private
projects (e.g. Google Earth, Microsoft Virtual
Earth, etc.) produced an overabundance of spatial
data, which, in many cases, does not help the
efficiency of decision processes. The increase of
geographical data availability has not been fully
coupled by an increase of knowledge to support
spatial decisions. The inclusion of spatial
simulation techniques in recent GIS software
favoured the diffusion of these methods, but in
several cases led to the mechanism based on which
buttons have to pressed without having geography
or processes in mind. Spatial modelling,
analytical techniques and geographical analyses
are therefore required in order to analyse data
and to facilitate the decision process at all
levels, with a clear identification of the
geographical information needed and reference
scale to adopt. Old geographical issues can find
an answer thanks to new methods and instruments,
while new issues are developing, challenging the
researchers for new solutions. This workshop aims
at contributing to the development of new
techniques and methods to improve the process of knowledge acquisition.
The programme committee especially requests high
quality submissions on the following Conference Themes :

Subject: [AISWorld] CONFENIS 2012 - Ghent Belgium
Date: Thu, 22 Dec 2011 12:31:35 +0100
From: Devos Jan <Jan.Devos(a)howest.be>

CALL for PAPERS
CONFENIS 2012, 19 -- 21 September 2012, Ghent Belgium
ENTERPRISE INFORMATION SYSTEMS OF THE FUTURE
EVOLVING TOWARDS MORE PERFORMANCE THROUGH TRANSPARENCY AND
AGILITY
Enterprise information systems (EIS) are large-scale modular
software systems, such as ERP, that support and integrate
process information flows, information reporting and
business analytics within and between complex organizations.
They provide a technology platform that enables
organizations to integrate their information assets and
coordinate their business processes. As the central nervous
system of the organization, they ensure that information can
be shared across all functional departments and managerial
levels. EIS are invaluable because they eliminate the
problem of information fragmentation caused by multiple
information systems in an organization.
The CONFENIS series of conferences offers an annual
opportunity to EIS researchers and practitioners to present
recent research or application experiences, to provide
feedback to peers, to set out the vision for future research
and developments in the field, and to create or confirm
long-lasting and fruitful collaborations.
With the theme of CONFENIS 2012 we wish to emphasize two
evolutions in the science and practice of EIS. The first
evolution is the development of more open systems, for
instance, the creation of interoperation between systems
from collaborating organizations or the composition of
systems from standard modules and packages offered by
different vendors. The second evolution is the move towards
more flexible systems, meaning easily configurable and
adaptable systems based on service-oriented software
architectures, the software as a service business model,
cloud computing infrastructures, and software product line
approaches. We therefore especially welcome Design Science
research and technical or evaluation papers on methods,
techniques and technologies to make EIS more transparent,
e.g. research on enterprise modelling, ontology and
architecture that would 'open up' the structure and
behaviour of enterprise systems, as well as
empirically-driven research and theoretical, conceptual or
even visionary papers on how flexible EIS solutions can
foster business agility and innovation.
Apart from research papers, the call for papers is also open
to practice-driven experience reports that reflect upon
openness and flexibility in the context of the acquisition,
implementation, use and management of EIS in organizations.
The conference is hosting an industry & service track aimed
at exploring emerging topics in depth. We therefore
particularly welcome contributions from starters, SME's,
social profit organizations, organizations within
non-business sectors or any other kind of organization that
was not targeted by the standard monolithic enterprise
system software packages of the past.
**

. ERP and open source
*Four types of papers, two different tracks *
We are soliciting four types of papers for two different
tracks: an *academic track *that is mainly focused on
research issues in EIS and an *industry & service track
*that is mainly focused on practical issues in EIS.
1. *Regular research papers *(academic track) report on
completed EIS research that complies with rigorous
scientific standards. These papers present original results
of completed research studies with the aim of obtaining
feedback from fellow researchers. The ambition level for
these papers, after revision incorporating the expert
feedback, is a publication in an academic journal or as a
book chapter published by an internationally recognized
publisher.
2. *Work-in-progress papers *(academic track) are short
papers that present the design and preliminary results of
ongoing EIS research studies with the aim of obtaining early
feedback and further guidance from experts and peers.
Work-in-progress papers will be evaluated using the same
academic standards as regular research papers (except for
completeness requirements).
3. *Conceptual or visionary papers *(industry & service
track) are papers that may target practitioners,
researchers, or both. Their aim is to convey a clear message
based on well-founded arguments, though not necessarily
based on the results of specific scientific studies. The
ideas expressed may be driven by experience with the
practice of EIS or research in EIS. These papers will be
evaluated mainly for their readability, innovativeness, and
soundness of the ideas expressed.
4. *Experience reports *(industry & service track) describe
real-life experiences with EIS that authors wish to share
with fellow practitioners and EIS researchers. They focus on
specific problems and solutions in specific contexts. Their
aim may be to help other practitioners facing similar
problems or to solicit help and possible solutions from

Dear Gustaf Neumann,
CLOSER 2012 (2nd International Conference on Cloud Computing and Services Science - http://closer.scitevents.org/) is now welcoming the submission of position papers whose deadline is scheduled for next January 31.
A position paper presents an arguable opinion about an issue. The goal of a position paper is to convince the audience that your opinion is valid and worth listening to, without the need to present completed research work and/or validated results. It is, nevertheless, important to support your argument with evidence to ensure the validity of your claims. A position paper may be a short report and discussion of ideas, facts, situations, methods, procedures or results of scientific research (bibliographic, experimental, theoretical, or other) focused on one of the conference topics.
The acceptance of a position paper is restricted to the categories of "short paper" or "poster". Please check further details about position papers submission at the conference website (http://closer.scitevents.org/SubmissionGuidelines.aspx).
We would like to highlight the presence of the following keynote speakers: Dave Cliff (University of Bristol, United Kingdom), Helen Karatza (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece), Frederic Desprez (LIP/INRIA, France), Fernando Teixeira de Sousa (IBM, Portugal) and Fabrizio Gagliardi (Microsoft Research, Switzerland). Please check the website for further information (http://closer.scitevents.org/KeynoteSpeakers.aspx).
Submitted papers will be subject to a double-blind review process. All accepted papers (full, short and posters) will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, on paper and CD-ROM support. BXDY
A short list of presented papers will be selected so that revised and extended versions of these papers will be published by Springer-Verlag in a SSRI Series book.
Additionally a short list of papers presented will be selected for publication of extended and revised versions in a special issue of Cluster Computing.
The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by major international indexers, including Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), INSPEC, DBLP and Elsevier Index (EI).
Best paper awards will be distributed during the conference closing session. Please check the website for further information (http://closer.scitevents.org/BestPaperAward.aspx).
All papers presented at the conference venue will be available at the SciTePress Digital Library (http://www.scitepress.org/DigitalLibrary/). SciTePress is member of CrossRef (http://www.crossref.org/).
There is still another opportunity of publication, in the following satellite events (with different deadlines, see the conference website for details):
- Special Session on Security Governance and SLAs in Cloud Computing - CloudSecGov (http://closer.scitevents.org/CloudSecGov.aspx)
- International Workshop on Enterprise Cloud Computing: Solutions and Strategies - ECCSS (http://closer.scitevents.org/ECCSS.aspx)
Workshops, Special sessions, Tutorials as well as Demonstrations dedicated to other technical/scientific topics are also envisaged: companies interested in presenting their products/methodologies or researchers interested in holding a tutorial are invited to contact the conference secretariat. Workshop chairs and Special Session chairs will benefit from logistics support and other types of support, including secretariat and financial support, to facilitate the development of a valid idea.
Please check further details at the CLOSER 2012 conference web site (http://closer.scitevents.org/). There you will find detailed information about the conference structure and its main topic areas. This conference is co-located with WEBIST 2012 (8th International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies - http://www.webist.org/), CSEDU 2012 (4th International Conference on Computer Supported Education - http://www.csedu.org/) and SMARTGREENS 2012 (1st International Conference on Smart Grids and Green IT Systems - http://www.smartgreens.org). Registration to CLOSER will enable free attendance to any sessions of WEBIST, CSEDU and SMARTGREENS 2012 as a non-speaker.
Should you have any question please don't hesitate contacting me.
Kind regards,
Joao Teixeira
