Daniel Hotel, Herzlia, Israel
www.iltam.org/swste2012 or E-mail: swste2012(a)iltam.org
Scope: We are on the threshold of a major paradigm shift in the way we
deploy and deliver software systems. Software delivery in the cloud and
the pervasiveness of social networks and multimedia mobile services
drive the demand for software technologies designed for massive-scale,
non-homogenous, continuously changing environments. To address these
requirements, modern software systems should be agile and scalable in
almost every aspect. At runtime, dynamically changing availability;
adaptive use of resources; mining of huge data sets; and flawless
execution are required. During development, agile methods; rapid and
continuous deployment; and consumerization of IT are becoming
increasingly important.
SwSTE'12 focuses on these trends and other topics in software engineering,
technology, and science. It provides a unique opportunity for researchers,
scientists, practitioners, and managers from Israel and abroad to meet and
share their ideas, results, and experiences.
Format: The two-day conference will include
* keynote talks, presented by well-known software professionals,
* focused track sessions, in which selected papers will be presented,
* state-of-the-art tutorials,
* a doctoral symposium, and
* industrial track sessions, presenting case studies.
A best paper award will be presented at the opening session of the
conference.
Topics of interest: The move to such massive-scale dynamic computing
environments is changing software industry in multiple ways: new design
and modeling methods are needed; testing of large-scale, data-intensive
environments becomes ever more complex; virtualization, new middleware
technologies, and new security challenges are growing in importance; and
resource optimization and parallelism techniques should be adapted to the
needs of modern software systems, which include power-aware, green systems.
While a paper on any topic relevant to software practice and research will
be considered, special emphasis will be given to papers reporting new
results in software engineering, agile methods, cloud computing, embedded
software development, and ways of exploiting new computing paradigms and
architectures.
Submissions and Participation: Papers submitted to the conference should
contain original contributions. SwSTE'12's international program committee
will select the papers to be presented. The SwSTE'12 conference proceedings
will be published by the IEEE Computer Society and will be included at the
IEEE Digital Library. Submitted papers must conform to the IEEE two-column
conference style. See the required template at:
<http://www.computer.org/portal/web/peerreviewjournals/author>. Each paper
is limited to ten pages. Papers are to be submitted electronically at:

(2) a special section on ?Game-based Learning: Design and Applications?
of the Interdisciplinary Journal of Information, Knowledge, and
Management (IJIKM)
URL:http://jelenajovanovic.net/tel-cfp-2012.html
Proposals Submission Deadline: 15 FEBRUARY 2012
Full Chapters/Papers Due: 15 APRIL 2012
AIM & SCOPE
Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) is a very broad and increasingly
mature research field. It encompasses a variety of research topics,
ranging from the study of different pedagogical approaches, teaching
techniques and strategies for online learning to the application of
advanced technologies in educational settings (e.g., different kinds of
mobile devices, sensors and sensor networks that provide the technical
foundation for context-aware, ubiquitous learning). The TEL community
has also been exploring the use of Artificial Intelligence technologies
and techniques for the development of intelligent learning environments
capable of adapting to the learners? needs and preferences and providing
learners with personalized learning experience. Recognizing the
potential of online social networks, social media and Web-based social
software tools as learning platforms for online education, the TEL
community has poured significant time and effort into researching how
these popular technologies could be combined with appropriate
pedagogical approaches to make learning experience more engaging,
satisfying and successful. Among the most important results of these
research efforts are personal learning environments that allow learners
to create mash-ups of diverse social software tools based on their own
needs and preferences, as well as to create and maintain their online
learning networks. Undeniably, technological advances are making
education more accessible to an increasing number of people worldwide;
to fully exploit the huge benefit the technology is offering, the TEL
community is exploring efficient approaches for adapting learning
resources to address language, generation and cultural specificities.
Aiming to make learning accessible to all, the community has also
focused on the development of solutions for learners with special needs.
Finally, it should be noted that all the above mentioned research
efforts of the TEL community are finding their applications in different
learning contexts and domains, including formal education and informal
learning, as well as workplace learning in small, medium and large
companies.
Since the scope of TEL research is constantly evolving, the above given
overview of the current research efforts does not aim to be exhaustive
by any means. Instead, its purpose is to give some insights into the
breadth of research topics and challenges that the edited book aims to
cover. Accordingly, the recommended topics include, but are not limited
to, the following:
Technological Foundation for Advanced Educational Solutions
- Social software and social computing
- Semantic technologies (including Semantic Web technologies and natural
language processing)
- Mobile technologies, sensors, context-aware and ubiquitous computing
- Educational data mining and learning analytics
- Technologies for interoperability, sharing and integration of
educational resources
- Learner modeling and other technologies for personalization and adaptation
- Open learning content and tools
Pedagogical Foundation for Advanced Educational Solutions
- Collaborative learning and knowledge building
- Problem- and project-based learning
- Learner motivation and engagement
- Game-based learning
- Learning design and different design approaches
Individual and Organizational Learning
- Self-regulated learning
- Communities of learners & Communities of practice
- Knowledge management and organizational learning
- Lifelong learning
- Informal learning
Accommodating Diversities
- Accessible learning for all
- Addressing language, generation and cultural differences
As can be seen from this list of topics, one of the areas in TEL is
game-based learning. Researchers have found that educational and/or
computer-based games have real potential as learning tools. It has been
shown, for example, that games can help players to improve their problem
solving and negotiation skills, narrative and communication skills as
well as non-linear thinking patterns. Game-based learning has already
been successfully applied to both the school and workplace settings, and
their adoption is continually increasing. In addition, there has
recently been an increasing interest in ?gamification? of education as a
means to increase students? motivation for learning. Gamification refers
to the use of game design elements, or the so-called game mechanics, in
non-game contexts and applications with the aim of increasing users?
engagement with those applications. Game design elements are often very
efficient in increasing motivation as they are grounded on research
results of positive psychology.
While educational games have been studied extensively for years, the
gamification of education, i.e., the application of game mechanics in
online learning environments with the aim of motivating learners to
engage with the contents, activities and tools offered by these
environments, is an emerging research area that has just started to
attract the attention of education-oriented research communities.
Regardless of their maturity, both research areas face many interesting
and challenging research questions, among which, for the special section
on ?Game-based Learning: Design and Applications?, the most interesting
are those related to motivation as one of the key determinants of
successful learning and knowledge building activities, both in academic
and workplace settings. Accordingly, in this special section we welcome
submissions that report on:
- the design and development of educational games that motivate users to
indulge in learning activities
- the application of game design elements in online learning
environments with the aim of increasing learners? motivation and engagement
- the evaluation of educational games or game mechanics in real world
educational settings

CALL FOR PAPERS
18th Americas Conference on Information Systems
Seattle, Washington, August 9-12, 2012
Minitrack: Business Models for the Digital Economy
(_http://www.amcis-businessmodels.hdzimmermann.net/_)
DESCRIPTION
This minitrack serves as a forum for the presentation and
discussion of new and innovative approaches of business
models beyond e-commerce for coping with the challenges of
the digital economy. We consider an economy based on the
digitization of information and the respective information
and communication infrastructure as digital economy. This
new type of economy implies not only technological, but also
and especially structural and process-related challenges and
potential. The way in which economic value is created will
change fundamentally in the digital economy and thus
transform the structure of economies and societies.
This evolution will radically alter processes and structures
within and between industries leading to the digital
economy. All of these developments characterize the emerging
digital economy and cause new challenges businesses have to
cope with. This clearly will have a major impact on how
business models have to be designed. Therefore this
minitrack addresses all topics concerned with the analysis,
design, development, implementation, and control of future
business models for the creation of economic value in the
digital economy from a communication, organizational,
business, economic, and managerial perspective applying a
theoretical, conceptual, or practical approach.
SUGGESTED TOPICS
Challenges and foundations of the digital economy
Analytical and architectural frameworks for new business models
Design approaches/methods for new business models
Models and modeling techniques/approaches for new business
models
Industry perspectives on business models

http://www.egov-conference.org <http://www.egov-conference.org/>
2nd CALL FOR PAPERS ? we kindly ask for your understanding
in case of receiving multiple postings of this call.
The annual international IFIP Electronic Government
(EGOV) conference is the European core conference in the
study domain, which presents the state of the art in
e-government and e-governance organized under the auspices
of the IFIP Working Group 8.5 (information systems in public
administration). Since its beginnings in 2001, the EGOV
conference has provided important guidance for research and
development in this fast-moving domain of study.
The IFIP EGOV conference brings together leading
researchers and professionals from across the globe and from
a number of disciplines. Over the years, the interest in
this domain of study has steadily increased. In 2011, along
with the co-located IFIP ePart conference on electronic
participation, the two conferences attracted more than 160
participants from all continents including developing countries.
E-government research has demonstrated its relevance to
practice and, consequently, has influenced and shaped
government strategies and implementations. Conversely,
e-government practice has inspired e-government research. A
wide range of topics has received scholarly attention. In

*"Case Studies in E-Government 2.0. Changing the citizen
relationship"*
*
*Proposals Submission Deadline: December 15, 2011
Full Chapters Due: June 01, 2012
A book edited by Saïd Assar, Imed Boughzala (Telecom
Business School, France) and Marijn Janssen (Delft
University of Technology, Netherlands)
To be published in early 2013 by Springer
(http://www.springer.com)
*INTRODUCTION*
Governments are revolutionizing their ways of working
resulting in changing relationships among public
organizations and their constituents. An important enabler
are new usages of information and knowledge-sharing
technologies which emerged with the advent of Web 2.0
paradigm. Used initially in the private arena, Web 2.0
technologies (e.g. blogs, wikis, RSS, social networking
platforms, folksonomy, podcasting, mashups, virtual worlds,
open linked data etc.) are increasingly disseminated within
the professional sphere, regardless of the type of
organization or field of activities. These technologies are
user-centered, user-friendly and participatory, intuitive
and flexible. They are very useful for self-expression,
social networking, knowledge co-creation, skills and talents
identification, etc [1,2]. Furthermore, these technologies
are an important enabler for new architectures in which the
citizen is in control.
During the last decade, e-government environments have
undergone considerable transformations in an attempt to
satisfy the incessant demand for more advanced e-service
delivery, better access to information and more efficient
government management. Looking to the future, the emergence
of Web 2.0 and the rise of social networks have indeed
opened up new perspectives that challenge public
institutions. In addition government data is opened for the
public which enable to mash them up with data from other
sources (companies, universities and other public bodies).
This enables new user-centric application in which
information can be viewed at a glance. The term
e-government 2.0 points to the specific applications of
social networks and Web 2.0 in the sphere of public services
[3]. Many benefits are expected, such as a better match
between public services and citizens' expectations, greater
adoption of online services by citizens, or better control
of costs and delays in the implementation of new services.
Governments around the world are building frameworks and
proposals for e-government 2.0 [4,5,6]. This transition
towards e-Government 2.0 will not only improve
participation, transparency and integration but it is also
expected to speed up the pace of innovation through
collaboration and consultation. Ultimately resulting in new
e-government business models [13].
Despite evidence that e-government 2.0 adoption and usage is
increasing, the use of Web 2.0 in government remains in its
infancy. Interrogations are expressed concerning the path to
follow and which factors will lead to success [7,8].
Academic research output is still quite limited and there
remains a weak body of evidence on e-government 2.0 adoption
and usage [9,10,11]. In addition to more empirical research
on its usage, the e-government community requires a more
complete set of methods and tools for evaluating
e-government 2.0. Existing frameworks and evaluation methods
may not be sufficient to appropriately measure the impact of
e-government 2.0 [12]. Furthermore, the number of practices
remains limited and there is limited generalization in terms
of new types of innovative business models [14].
*AIM AND TARGET AUDIENCE OF THE BOOK
*
The goal of this book is to provide a comprehensive
collection of research works concerning e-government 2.0
implementation by showing cases and business models enabled
by various technologies and developed in different
countries. E-government 2.0 will be approached from the view
of theory and practice interaction. Contributions will be
based on concrete practical studies: this may concern
generally applicable methodological lessons stemming from
grounded applications or feedback resulting from the
implementation of a conceptual framework in the field. All
types of methodological approaches are welcome: case
studies, action research, design science, empirical
investigation, comparative research, prototyping and
experimental engineering emphasizing technical and
methodological dimensions of e-government 2.0 projects.
As they will be published in the context of a book, chapters
must be presented in such a way that they are easily
understood by an audience with varied expertise (government
agencies, research institutions, software vendors, research
scholars, consultants, and academic institutions etc.).
Contributions should include a synthetic and easy to read
state of the art related to the topic of the chapter, and
must introduce theoretical background and clearly identify
what has been accomplished, why it is fundamental to
authors' understanding of e-government and e-government
2.0, how it compares with previous work.
Recommended topics
Recommended topics in e-government 2.0 include, but are not
limited to, the following:
- Domain oriented applications (health, education, tax
payment, e-procurement, ... etc.)
- Authentification and identity management
- Privacy and security issues
- e-KM, intranet, e-learning and web 2.0 in public
information systems

Technology, The Open University, UK
** Conference background and goals*
Mobile Learning where to next? Accelerometers and motion
sensors will tell
Since the advent of mobile learning, developments in its
practice and research have been triggered by technological
innovation and advancement. For instance the arrival of
laptops, afforded new models of technology integration and
accessibility within the classroom and freed technology from
the ‘imprisonment’ of computer rooms. The appearance of
handheld devices offered potential for the exploitation of
contextual outdoor learning and freed learners and
technologies from the confinement of classrooms. The
emergence of mobile phones democratized access to
technology, revolutionized the concept of user generated
content and freed learners and technologies to experiment
with technologies outside classrooms and schools.
The incursion of multi-touch tablets in the mobile learning
scene is the latest technological ‘wave’. Though in early
stages, sensationalist reporting of the ipads /for /Learning
(http://www.ipadsforeducation.vic.edu.au/
<http://ss5.gmsend.com/sendlink.asp?HitID=1322773656068&StID=1351&SID=0&NID=…>)
initiatives already advocate ipads will displace playdough
and finger painting in Kindergartens and the Horizon report
2011 states ‘/electronic books are beginning to demonstrate
capabilities that challenge the very definition of reading’
/(http://wp.nmc.org/horizon2011/sections/electronic-books/
<http://ss5.gmsend.com/sendlink.asp?HitID=1322773656068&StID=1351&SID=0&NID=…>).
Against this background the relevance and need for mobile
learning research and practice founded upon learning
theories, focused on pedagogically meaningful approaches to
mobile learning and systematically evaluated with
appropriate data collection and analysis tools, remains
paramount.
The IADIS Mobile Learning 2012 International Conference

*IFIP Working Group 8.2 Conference*
*University of South Florida, Tampa, FL*
*December 13-14, 2012 *
(immediately prior to ICIS, Orlando, FL)
**
*Theme: Shaping the Future of ICT Research: Methods and Approaches*
*General Chair:*Alan Hevner and Michael Myers
*Program Chairs*:Anol Bhattacherjee and Brian Fitzgerald
*Organizing Chairs*:Rosann Webb Collins and Joni Jones
**
Since the founding of the International Federation for Information
Processing (IFIP) in 1960 as a non-profit organization dedicated to
advancing information processing throughout the world, the research and
practice of information and communication technologies (ICT) has
experienced seismic changes.Organizational computing architectures have
shifted from mainframe computing to client-server to distributed to
cloud computing, information technology has spawned new business models
based on electronic commerce and service-oriented architecture,
communities and nations are relying on ICT to leapfrog into the future,
and as the recent events in the Middle-East demonstrate, online social
media has provided a new voice to a worldwide movement toward democracy.
Researchers are continuously challenged to find innovative approaches to
perform relevant and rigorous ICT studies.
In the context of this changing world of ICT, what are the key research
problems that we, as ICT researchers, should be studying, and how should
we be studying such problems? This international conference issues a call
to present research designs and programs that have the potential to
shape the future of ICT research. We welcome research papers that explore
new directions in the design, use, and impacts of ICT in our
organizational and social lives, papers that explore new or integrated
methods for studying issues relevant to ICT research, and papers that
can provoke a healthy debate on the conduct of future ICT research. In
particular, we welcome ICT research proposals that transcend boundaries
between theories, methods, approaches, and disciplines.
Thought leaders in the ICT community are encouraged to participate and
help in forming a vision and agenda for the future of relevant and
rigorous ICT research methods and approaches for the next decade. Our
goal is to broaden this discussion beyond the Information Systems
community to include researchers from the many ICT-related disciplines.
Examples of suggested research questions for discussion include, but are
not limited to:
* How can we design better ICT artifacts for the future? What is the
role of design science in ICT research?
* How will we use or appropriate ICT in the future in our personal,
social, or organizational lives? How will ICT impact our personal,
social, or professional lives in the future?
* How should IS researchers study non-organizational uses of ICT? How
should we study phenomena which stretch traditional IS boundaries,
such as Wikipedia, FLOSS?
* How can we design mixed-method research projects that adequately
address the issues of concerns for future ICT research? How do we
best integrate positivist, interpretative, and design research methods?
* How can be build better theories of ICT design, use, or effects, and
how do we judge the utility of such theories?
* What goals or metrics can we employ to judge ICT success in the future?
* How can ICT inform or influence social or national debates toward
anti-corruption or democracy? What social and political constraints
restrict the potential benefits of ICT, and how can we overcome such
constraints?
* How can ICT inform or influence issues of sustainability for
organizations and society? What is the future of GreenIT and Energy
Informatics initiatives?
* What are prospective new directions for future ICT research and/or
practice?
* How does ICT research accommodate the shift to 'digital native'
consumers?
* Exemplar research projects that demonstrate promising new approaches
for ICT research.
