CALL FOR PAPERS
International Workshop on Coordination of Domain Specific Languages
23rd IEEE/ACM International Conference on Automated Software Engineering
September 16, 2008 L'Aquila (Italy)
http://www.model-transformation.org/CDSL2008/
............................................................................
THEME/MOTIVATION
Raising the level of abstraction beyond programming by specifying the
problem directly using domain concepts is gaining acceptance in developing
software systems. In fact, this leverages intellectual property and business
logic from source code into high-level descriptions and allows organizations
to focus on the essential aspects of their systems, which have traditionally
been blurred by the usage of programming languages and underlying
technologies. In many cases, final products can be generated automatically
from high-level specifications which encode the problem and not its
solution.
In general, this automation is possible because both the language and
generators need fit the requirements of only one company and domain. The
workshop aims at exploring techniques, systems, metamodels and languages to
define communities of domain-specific languages which exists as a whole or
individually and are, in some sense, able to coordinate each other according
to an overall semantics/scope. Multi-view specifications, system and
language synchronization, and language evolution and co-adaptation can be
considered typical applications of these techniques.
TOPICS
This workshop focuses on the scientific and practical aspects related with
the adoption of Domain-Specific Languages for supporting system engineering
and modeling. Thus, we encourage submissions from both academia and industry
about the following (non-exhaustive) list of topics:
- Tools and techniques for supporting domain-specific languages,
domain-specific modeling, and metamodels.
- Principles for identifying constructs for coordinating languages.
- Language and Model/Metamodel synchronization, composition and
correspondence specification.
- Consistency and conflicts in community of languages, models/metamodels
- Language and Metamodel evolution / co-adaptation.
- White vs. black box composition of languages.
- Industry/academic experience reports describing success/failure in
adopting several domain-specific languages at once.
- Novel approaches for code generation from domain-specific languages.
- Issues of support/maintenance of models and evolution of a language in
accordance with the representative domain.
- Specific domains where the adoption of DSLs and related technologies
looks promising.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Research papers should describe original research results that have not been
accepted or submitted for publication elsewhere. These papers will be
evaluated for scientific or technical contribution, originality,
appropriateness and significance. Submissions should not exceed 8 pages in
the IEEE format. Experience reports should describe new insights gained from
case studies or the application of language/modeling techniques in practice.
All papers will be refereed by at least 3 members of the program committee.
All submissions must be in English. Submissions should be made
electronically in PDF (preferred) or PostScript format via the submission
page on the Workshop website.
JOURNAL SPECIAL ISSUE
A selected number of the best papers accepted will be invited for expansion
and revision for possible publication in a journal special issue dedicated
to the subject.

Workshop Theme
==============
The degree of automation in the management of the business process space
of single enterprises and whole value chains is still unsatisfying. A
key source of problems are representational
heterogeneities between the various perspectives and the various stages
in the life-cycles of business processes. Typical examples are
incompatible representations of the managerial vs. the IT
perspective, or the gap between normative modeling for compliance
purposes and process execution log data. As early as in the 1990s,
researchers have evaluated the potential of using ontologies for
improving business process management in the context of the TOVE
project; however, the impact of that work remained beyond initial
expectations.
Since 2005, there is a renewed and growing interest in exploiting
ontologies, of varying expressivity and focus, for advancing the state
of the art in business process management, in particular in ERP-
centric IT landscapes. The term "Semantic Business Process Management"
has been suggested for the described branch of research in early 2005. A
flagship activity in the field is the European research project "SUPER",
with more than a dozen premier industrial and academic partners, among
them SAP, IDS Scheer, and IBM.
In the past years, substantial advancement has been made in
investigating the theoretical and practical branches of this vision.
However, the interdisciplinary nature of the topic requires a tight
collaboration of researcher from multiple fields of, namely the BPM,
SOA, Semantic Web, Semantic Web services, and Economics communities.
There is a clear need for an annual event at which those communities
meet, debate, challenge each others approaches, and eventually align
their research efforts. Due to the strong involvement of Semantic Web
researchers in the field, ESWC is the ideal target venue for this event.
In this workshop, we want to bring together experts from the relevant
communities and help reach agreement on a roadmap for SBPM research. We
aim at bundling experiences and prototypes from the successful
application of Semantic Web technology to BPM in various industries,
like automotive, engineering, chemical and pharmaceutical, and services
domains. The particular focus is on deriving reusable best-practices
from such experiences, and to yield convincing showcases of semantic
technology.

Please consider submitting to the Technology and Strategies for SOA
mini-track of the HICSS-42 conference to be held January 5-8, 2009 at the
Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort on the Big Island in Hawaii. Papers need
to be submitted by June 15, 2008. Refer to the following information for
additional details.
Track: Internet & Digital Economy
Minitrack: Technology and Strategies for SOA
A service-oriented IT architecture (SOA) is an architectural style for
building software applications that use available services in a network,
which is gaining increasing importance in the industry. SOA is having a
profound impact on how information systems are being developed, how IT
units are being organized, and may even provide opportunities for new
business models. While core standards and technologies related to SOA have
matured and are being widely implemented, standards relating to higher
level layers of the Web services "technology stack" (e.g., orchestration,
reliability, and semantic description) are still emerging or maturing.
Topics and research areas include, but are not limited to:
* Reviews of existing specifications and standards, implementation tools,
and discussion of their current and future development
* Proposals for development, extensions and improvements of current
specifications (i.e., semantic description for Web services)
* Examination of strategies and approaches of technology application
(i.e., governance of Web services registries) in service-oriented
architectures
* Studies on the organizational impact of the adoption of service-oriented
architectures

PST 2008 will be affiliated with IFIP WG11.11. In 2008 new technologies
and new applications are not likely to be widely adopted until they can
demonstrate that the security of the underlying ICT infrastructure and the
privacy of the information being processed are fully protected. Only then
will users trust and therefore use these innovations and then, and only
then, will the developers and society as a whole reap the benefits of the
innovation. PST 2008 provides a forum for researchers world-wide to unveil
their latest work in privacy, security and trust and to show how this
research can be used to enable innovation and defeat the "dark side" of
the Internet. The theme of PST 2008 is PST - Enabling Innovation. Like

Call for Papers
I-MEDIA 08 - 2nd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGY
3-5 September 2008
Graz, Austria
http://www.i-media.tugraz.at
OBJECTIVES
===========
Media technologies are currently facing challenges and opportunities
arising from a number of
trends: Under the Web 2.0 umbrella, social aspects of software are
gaining importance, and a new focus on simplicity in user interface
design is taking hold. New display devices (e.g. e-paper) and client
software (e.g. geo-browsers) revolutionize the production and
consumption of media products such as newspapers. At the same time,
semantic technologies are maturing to the point where their broad
adoption becomes almost inevitable. In conjunction with new media,
semantic technologies and social software catalyze virtual communities
by matching people of similar interests, browsing behavior, or
geographic location.
Acknowledging these fundamental changes, I-MEDIA will bring together
traditional media companies, new media start-ups and academics to shape
the future of new media technology, and to make the most of distributed
text, audio and video resources.
I-KMEDIA will be complemented by I-KNOW (www.i-know.at) the
International Conference on Knowledge Management and the International
Conference on Semantic Systems (www.i-semantics.at).
Both conferences will be held concurrently with I-KNOW. This extension
reflects the increasing importance and convergence of knowledge
management, new media technologies and semantic technologies.

Special Track on Cross-Platform Aspects of the Social Web (CPASW '08)
http://www.triple-i.tugraz.at/i_media/special_tracks/cpasw
3 September 2008
Graz, Austria
---------------------------------------
DEADLINE EXTENSION
Since many authors have asked for an extension of the submission deadline, we will keep our submission system open for further two weeks. The extended submission deadline is now April 28, 2008.
---------------------------------------
This one-day special track takes place during TRIPLE-I '08 in Graz, Austria (3 - 5 September 2008) as one program item of I-MEDIA '08. The special track provides an interdisciplinary forum for international scientists and practitioners to discuss various cross-platform aspects of the Social Web (CPASW).
I-MEDIA is part of a joint venture of the conferences united under the brand TRIPLE-I (http://triple-i.tugraz.at/): I-KNOW - International Conference on Knowledge Management, I-MEDIA - International Conference on New Media Technology, and I-SEMANTICS - International Conference on Semantic Systems. TRIPLE-I reflects the increasing importance and convergence of Knowledge Management, New Media Technology and Semantic Systems. This unique concept aims at bridging the gaps between the various communities and their technology fields.
Background
The ongoing socialization of the Web has led to the emergence of social platforms covering a wide range of applications. All of these platforms collect vast amounts of information from their users. However, users struggle when they want to retrieve their submitted information for reuse on other platforms. Users are typically active on a multitude of Web platforms and are currently annoyed by having to repeat many steps, including sign-up, login, user profile creation, and connecting with friends - defining their social graph - over and over again. Sharing information between Web platforms is still very limited.
With lacking interoperability, users become increasingly frustrated while trying to overcome the technical and legal hurdles. One popular example would be the well-known blogger Robert Scoble who, trying to retrieve his social graph from Facebook, was left with his account disabled. Several initiatives have been started recently, including OpenSocial (http://code.google.com/apis/opensocial/), DataPortability (http://www.dataportability.org/) and the Open Social Web (http://opensocialweb.org/). They all cover aspects emerging in a cross-platform environment, e.g. counteracting the 'social network fatigue'. However, scientific publications on the mentioned topics are still scarce.
Besides the rather pragmatic approaches from the industry, a multitude of scientific projects are conducted by the Semantic Web community, e.g. the influential LinkingOpenData project of the W3C (http://esw.w3.org/topic/SweoIG/TaskForces/CommunityProjects/LinkingOpenData). These Semantic Web projects also deal with cross-platform aspects, however due to the explicit focus on semantic technologies, they are mainly discussed within the I-SEMANTICS (http://www.i-semantics.at/).
Objectives
CPASW '08 tries to find answers to the following guiding research questions:
* What are the fundamental interoperability challenges arising in the Social Web?
* What models, frameworks and technical solutions can help to overcome these challenges?
* How can cross-platform synergies be facilitated?
* What are the (side-)effects for existing platforms?
The special track will bring together international researchers as well as practitioners from different organizations who will have plenty of time for networking and real-world knowledge sharing.
Topics
CPASW '08 is concerned with the emerging cross-platform aspects related to the recent socialization of the Web and the development of models, frameworks and standards in this regard. Currently, this field is mainly driven by dedicated individuals, supported by parts of the industry. CPASW intends to bring together scientific endeavours dealing with cross-platform aspects. Social, technical as well as business research questions are of interest.
We invite submissions that deal with aspects including (but not limited to):
* User-related aspects
o Implications of the Open Social Web
o Identity management
o Privacy and security aspects
o Cross-platform trust
* Provider-related aspects
o Application portability across Social Web platforms
o Web Services, APIs and Mashups
o Interoperability aspects
o Standardization efforts
o Impact on existing business models
* Data-related aspects
o Data Portability
o Synchronisation across platforms
o Aspects of Social Network portability
o Knowledge Diffusion across Social Web platforms
