Betreff: [isworld] E-government multi-channel management workshop at
dg.o2008
Datum: Sun, 27 Apr 2008 15:03:33 -0400

An: AISWORLD Information Systems World Network <isworld(a)lyris.isworld.org>
BACKGROUND
Since the early nineties, governmental organizations have been using a
variety of customer service channels. These channels have different
characteristics and are used for communication, interaction, transaction
and distribution of products and/or services. Among the traditional
channels, like the front desk and the telephone, citizens and enterprises
have access to digital channels like websites and e-mail. Channel usage
statistics indicate that citizens still prefer the more expensive personal
channels (desk and telephone) to the newer cost efficient digital
channels. Many governmental organizations struggle with the integration
and management of these service channels. The solutions to these
multichannel problems are usually developed on a pragmatic and an ad hoc
basis, without having solid scientific and methodological grounds. One of
the challenges that governmental organizations face, is to fulfill the
basic principle of 'free channel choice', i.e. citizens have the right to
choose to use the channel of their preference. This freedom of choice
implies that governmental organizations should provide all services
through all channels even if this is illogical. In order to effectively
and efficiently deploy customer service channels, more insight on citizen
behavior as well as organizational and technological solutions is
required.
OBJECTIVE AND WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
This workshop aims at discussing elements of multi-channel approaches,
providing an overview of the state-of-the-art and discussing deficiencies
and further research need. In particular, the workshop will addresses
multi-channels from a customer point of view, provide an overview of
multi-channel coordination and channel synchronization and multichannel
strategies.
Organizations can pursue a variety of multichannel strategies given their
customers, scarce resources and ambitions. Channel synchronization is
required as citizens expect the same information across different
channels, given their freedom of channel choice. Channel synchronization
is not only a technical but also an organizational problem. Multichannel
customer management is necessary to entice citizens to the most effective
and cost efficient channel. This requires a deep understanding of
citizen's behavior with respect to channel choice, usage and preference.
The workshop will have a number of presentations of 45 minutes with
discussion following. Topics will include "Understanding Customers",
"Multi-channel Coordination and Synchronization", "Multi-channel
Strategies", and Multi-channel Management - What can we learn from the
field?".
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The 9th annual dg.o international conference is a forum for presentation
and discussion of interdisciplinary digital government research and
practice and its applications in diverse domains. The conference is
presented by the Digital Government Society of North America (DGSNA), with
major support from the US National Science Foundation.
dg.o2008 will be held in Montreal, Canada, May 18-21, 2008. More info:

Overview
TOOLS 2008 is the 46th TOOLS conference. Started in 1989, TOOLS
conferences, held in Europe, the USA, Australia, and China have played a
major role in the development of object technology field; many of the
seminal concepts were first presented at TOOLS. After an interruption of
four years, the conference is now revived to reflect the maturing of the
field and the new challenges ahead.
TOOLS EUROPE 2008 will be devoted to the combination of technologies that
have emerged as a result of object technology becoming "mainstream". Like
its predecessors, TOOLS EUROPE 2008 combines an emphasis on quality with a
strong practical focus. It will include both scientific and experience
conference papers, workshops, tutorials, a poster session, and a venture
forum.
21 papers have been accepted after a rigorous selection process by the
international Program Committee, with an emphasis on originality,
practicality and overall quality. Topics addressed this year by selected
papers include model-driven engineering, aspect-orientation,
component-based languages, and language reflection.
In 2008, TOOLS EUROPE is co-located with several other events, including
SEAFOOD 2008, the International Conference on Model Transformation (ICMT)
2008, the Web 2.0 Pattern Mining workshop, and several other workshops and
tutorials. Details of all co-located events can be found on the TOOLS web
site.

Call for Papers
======================================================
3rd Workshop on Context Awareness and CBR
CaCoA'08 - Advanced Technologies for Ambient Intelligence
In conjunction with the 9th European Conference on Case Based Reasoning
September 1-4, 2008, Trier, Germany
Workshop Website: http://www.iis.uni-hildesheim.de/cacoa08
Conference: http://www.wi2.uni-trier.de/eccbr08/index.php
======================================================
Ambient Intelligence (AmI) solutions require context awareness (of both the
environment and user) to anticipate the humans' goals and needs to behave
pro-actively. Adaptivity and feedback learning are used to advance AmI in
order to make it smart and intelligent, while context-sensitive processing
takes more and more a key role in many modern intelligent IT applications
including context awareness. Context reasoning is also essential for
AmI, and
can be supported adequately by CBR techniques representing and manipulating
situated information. Moreover, demand-oriented and holistic solutions
require
taking into account relevant human aspects (e.g. social, economic or
ethical)
to avoid possible refusals of such systems.
This workshop will bring together industry and academic researchers and
scientists to study, understand, and explore the handling of context in
intelligent applications, with a particular focus on ambient
intelligence and
human-directed aspects. Besides contributed papers and invited talks, this
workshop will offer organized and open spaces for targeted discussions. The
workshop will explore (but is not limited to) the following topics along the
(pair wise) intersections of context awareness, case-based reasoning,
and AmI:
- Context-aware Smart Home solutions
- Reasoning in dynamic device environments
- Usability, usefulness, and reliability of AmI applications
- Multi-modal user interfaces
- Minimal-invasive sensing and human-computer interaction (HCI)
- Ethical, social and economic impact of AmI (acceptance, perspectives,
informational self determination, loss of control, privacy)
- Smart human interaction with autonomous systems
- Collecting and analysing histories of behaviour
- Security and trust implications for AmI solutions
- Service matchmaking (practicable)
- Responsive and pro-active architectures
- Adapting experiences and feedback learning (life cycles)
- User-centric explanations (to advance smart behavior)
- Communication strategies for AmI applications
- Collaborative filtering techniques for context awareness
- CBR methods for modeling of and reasoning about context
- Philosophical, social, and psychological accounts of ambient
intelligence and
CBR
- Advanced user modeling techniques
- Traditional relevant areas of KM (KR, planning, decision-making,
uncertainty)
---------------------
Submissions
---------------------
We invite paper submissions including descriptions of works in progress,
research
contributions, and position statements. Submissions should attempt to
address
issues relating to Context Awareness and CBR for Ambient Intelligence. The
workshop aims to provide a forum for scientists and practitioners exploring
ambient intelligence, from a broad range of disciplines, to share their
problems
and techniques across different research and application areas. Workshop
papers
should be submitted in Springer LNCS format, which is the format
required for the
final camera ready copy, with a maximum of 10 pages (tentative). Authors'
instructions along with LaTeX and Word macro files are available on the
web at:
http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html
Submissions should be made through the workshop conference management system
(http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cacoa08). For further
information,
please contact the workshop organizers or visit the website.

September 1st, 2008, Milan, Italy
Papers submission deadline: May 23, 2008

SCOPE:
Social software is a new paradigm which is spreading quickly in the
society, organisations and economics. Social software is software that
triggers mechanisms of sociality by providing support for social
practices, experiences, identity and production. Users are supported in
creating new contacts, presenting themselves and collaborating with other
users. As a result, content, knowledge and software is not created by a
hierarchy of experts, but by combining a multitude of contributions of
independent authors/actors. Examples for such a social production are
wikis, blogs, social bookmarking and tagging, etc.
Social software follows a more egalitarian and meritocratic approach
compared to traditional approaches where the role of the software user is
determined by the enterprise senior management and its representatives.
Thus, trust and reputation play a crucial role in the use of social
software instead of authority granted by the top management.
The paradigm of social software and social production has created a
multitude of success stories such as wikipedia.org and the development of
the Linux operating system. Therefore, more and more enterprises see
social software and social production as a means for further improvement
of their business processes and business models. For example, they
integrate their customers into product development by using blogs to
capture ideas for new products and features. Thus, business processes have
to be adapted to new communication patterns between customers and the
enterprise: for example, the communication with the customer is
increasingly a bi-directional communication with the customer and among
the customers. Social software also offers new possibilities to enhance
business processes by improving the exchange of knowledge and information,
to speed up decisions, etc.
Up to now, the interaction of social software and the underlying paradigm
of social production with business processes have not been investigated in
depth. Therefore, the objective of the workshop is to explore how social
software and social production interact with business process management,
how business process management has to change to comply with social
production, and how business processes may profit from social techniques.
TOPICS OF INTEREST:
1. Alignment of Business Processes to Social Production
- How can business processes be aligned to business models following the
paradigm of social software and production?
- Which concepts and methods are necessary to align business processes to
business models using social software?
2. New possibilities for business processes by social software
- Which new possibilities for the design of business processes are created
by social software?
- How are trust and reputation established in business processes using
social software?
- Are there business processes which require sociality, especially when
they are not well defined (as production workflows) but collaborative or
ad hoc?
- How does social production influence the design of business processes?
- Which kinds of social production have to be supported by business
process management?
- What is the impact on conceptual models for those categories of business
processes which are not well-defined or that we do not wish to freeze
using classical business process enactment systems for instance?
3. Social Software and BPM
- Do we need new BPM methods and/or paradigms to cope with social
software?
- Is there an influence of social production and social software on BPM
methods themselves?
- Are there any similarities or relationships with process mining
techniques and also with workflow control and role patterns?
- Which phases of the BPM lifecycle (Design, Deployment, Performance,
Evaluation) are affected the most by social software?
- How can BPM profit from using social software?
- Which types of social software can be used in which phases of the BPM
lifecycle?
4. Implementation support by social software
- Which kinds of social software can be used to implement business
processes?
- Which categories of business processes can profit from social software?
- How does social software interact with WFMS or other business process
support systems?
- How can we use Wikis, Blogs etc. to support business processes?
- What new kinds of business knowledge representation are offered by
social production?
SUBMISSION:
Prospective workshop participants are invited to submit a position paper
related to one or more of the main topics.
Position papers of up to 2500 words are sought. Position papers that raise
relevant questions, or describe successful or unsuccessful practice, or
describe experience will all be welcome. Position papers will be assigned
a 20 minute presentation.
Short papers of up to 1000 words can also be submitted, and will be
assigned a 10 minutes presentation.
The paper selection will be based upon the relevance of a paper to the
main topics, as well as upon its quality and potential to generate
relevant discussion.
Papers should be emailed to Rainer.Schmidt(a)htw-aalen.de
EXPECTED RESULTS:
All papers will be published on workshop wiki before the workshop, so that
everybody can learn about the problems that are important for other
participants.
