CALL FOR PAPERS
European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS)
http://www.palgrave-journals.com/ejis/
Special Issue on Transformational Government (t-Gov)
Technology integration and management in Government is a burgeoning area
of research that explores the use of ICT in public administration,
combined with organizational change, new skills to improve public
services, and the democratic processes. The phenomenon of Transformational
Government (t-Gov) is maturing, with significant research breadth and
depth these domains require integrating together thus, representing a
unique multidisciplinary
research challenge. Governments around the world have made much progress
in developing their eGovernment infrastructures but there is now
widespread belief that capitalizing on such investments is more
challenging that originally envisaged and hence, the emergence of
Transformational Government, which is all about transforming public
services as citizens
receive them and demonstrating how technology can improve the corporate
services of Government such that more resources can be released to deliver
frontline services. Much Government spending throughout the world has
been directed towards developmental projects, with an established need
having now been identified to reflect and build upon emerging public
sector issues. Transformational Government research requires a high
quality publishing outlet, clearly targeted at researchers with an
interest in this fast moving area of applied research. Transformational
Government is a burgeoning phenomenon across the globe, with substantial
investment being made to support improvements to infrastructures as well
as services to the citizen. Many emerging challenges facing t-Gov are
around political, managerial and cultural environmental issues, which are
considered unique to the public sector. It is in exploring this area where
this special issue of the European Journal of Information Systems seeks to
make a contribution to the normative literature.
The main objective of the special issue is to discuss past, present and
future challenges associated with t-Gov. Reflective analysis of successful
or failed exploitations are sought from across the world, where key
learning issues can be extrapolated for others to use as a frame of
reference. Studies offering a wider project focus from a human,
organizational or technical perspective are particularly encouraged. In
particular, methodological approaches that adopt exploratory, theory
building or testing through case analysis or surveys are welcome.
Submission guidelines and important dates
Manuscripts should be between 4000-6000 words in length, with all
contributions being subjected to a double blind review process. There
should be a separate title page giving the names and addresses of the
authors. Manuscripts must be sent electronically to one of the guest
editors no later than August 31st, 2008, and should follow the guidelines
of the European Journal of Information Systems -

International Journal of Business Intelligence and Data Mining
Special Issue on OLAP Intelligence: Meaningfully Coupling OLAP
and Data Mining Tools and Algorithms
http://si.deis.unical.it/~cuzzocrea/IJBIDM2008/
Aim and Scope
-------------
Nowadays, it is widely recognized that OLAP technology provides powerful
analysis
tools for extracting useful knowledge from large amounts of data stored in
different and
highly-heterogeneous formats, and very often distributed across networked
settings
ranging from conventional wired environments to innovative wireless and
P2P networks.
Several advantages confirm the benefits coming from such an analysis
model: (i) the
amenity of naturally representing real-life data sets that are
multi-level,
multidimensional, and highly-correlated in nature; (ii) the amenity of
analyzing
multidimensional data according to a multi-resolution vision; (iii) the
rich availability of a
wide class of powerful OLAP operators (such as roll-up, drill-down,
slice-&-dice etc) and
queries (e.g., range-, top-k, iceberg and gradient queries); (iv) the
integration of OLAP with
more complex analysis tools coming from statistics, time series analysis,
and Data Mining.
An elegant and successful solution in this line of research consists in
coupling OLAP and
Data Mining tools and algorithms, which is the basis of the so-called OLAM
 OnLine
Analytical Mining model, proposed by Jiawei Han in his seminal paper in
1997. Basically,
this proposal consists in meaningfully combining the powerful of OLAP with
the
effectiveness of Data Mining tools and algorithms capable of discovering
interesting
knowledge from large amounts of data (e.g., the data cell set of a given
OLAP data cube)
by means of clustering, classification, association rule discovery,
frequent item set mining,
and so forth.
During the last decade, researchers have devoted their attention on the
issue of
meaningfully coupling OLAP and Data Mining tools and algorithms, leading
to the term
OLAP Intelligence, which can be reasonable considered as one of the
emerging research
topics of next years in the context of knowledge discovery methodologies.
This great
interest is essentially due to both exciting theoretical perspectives,
such as complexity
issues of executing time-consuming Data Mining routines over very large
OLAP data
cubes, and relevant application issues, which have a great impact in a
plethora of real-life
scenarios ranging from conventional distributed database management
systems and
cooperative information systems to innovative data stream management
systems and
sensor network data analysis tools.
Despite these efforts, many aspects need to be further investigated in
order to achieve a
reliable convergence between OLAP and Data Mining, thus making this
technology a
reference for next-generation data-intensive analysis tools. Among those,
we recall:
- Data Warehouse Support for OLAM Architectures
- Database Support for OLAM Architectures
- Complex Knowledge Representation Models for Data Cubes in OLAM
- Complex Knowledge Reasoning Models for Data Cubes in OLAM
- OLAP Data Cube Integration
- Advanced Clustering Algorithms for Very Large OLAP Data Cubes

The Special Issue OLAP Intelligence: Meaningfully Coupling OLAP and Data
Mining
Tools and Algorithms of the International Journal of Business
Intelligence and Data Mining,
InderScience Publishers, will explore these research themes and will be
focused on
theoretical foundations as well as innovative models, techniques,
algorithms and
applications of OLAP Intelligence.

Decision Sciences Journal
Special Topic Forum
New Frontiers in Collaborative Decision Making
Associate Editor Team
Paulo B. Goes, University of Connecticut
José A. Pino, University of Chile
Asoo Vakharia, University of Florida
In recent years, there has been a renewed interest in collaborative
decision making in a variety of business settings. One major reason for
this could be the increases in globalization of business operations
leading to geographically dispersed executives and decision makers.
Information technology plays a key role in supporting and facilitating
collaborative efforts in these settings and the area of Computer-Supported
Cooperative Work (CSCW) addresses issues in the design, development, and
implementation of information technology tools to support group decision
making. Some of the well-known IT tools developed in this arena and used
extensively today include web 2.0, social networks, wikis, multi-player
games, and virtual team environments. From a business perspective,
collaborative IT-based tools are vital enablers to address multiple
strategic and tactical problems. These include new product design and
development, coordination of virtual teams located across continents,
vendor and outsourcing management, designing effective and efficient
supply chains, and knowledge management systems
There are a few documented success stories in the application of IT to
support business decision making. For example ECR (Efficient Consumer
Response) is one mechanism which has been used to enhance collaborative
decision making in the supply chain. Another emerging concept in global
corporations is the 24-Hour Knowledge Factory, which can be used to
support the collaborative efforts between globally dispersed team members.
However, what seems to be lacking is some focus in terms of problem
settings and corresponding tools/technologies to support collaborative
decision making. It is time, therefore, to reflect on the value of IT
tools and their applicability to support and enhance collaborative
decision making. This is the major motivation underlying this STF in the
Decision Sciences Journal.
Topics of Interest for this special issue on the use of IT tools to
support collaborative decision making include, but are not limited to:
 Evaluating the current state of the fields of CSCW and decision making;
Reviewing, extending, and developing theoretical paradigms linking these
fields;
New IT models, methods and techniques to enhance collaborative decision
making;
Application of IT tools in supporting decision making in:
o New Product Design and Development;
o Supply Chain Management; and
o Managing Virtual Teams;
 Managing Knowledge Factories
Building on the editorial mission of Decision Sciences, this STF seeks
manuscripts utilizing diverse research approaches such as empirical,
simulation, and/or analytical research methods. Articles published in
this STF must meet Decision Sciences high standards of research rigor and
originality, while embracing managerial relevance, not only in the
research problem studied, but also in their impact on enhanced decision
making. STFs consist of a collection of three to five articles that are
published in a regular issue along with other peer-reviewed articles.
Manuscript preparation and submission instructions can be found on
journals web site at
http://decisionsciencesjournal.org/Help/Author/author_Guidelines.cfm. In
the cover letter, please indicate that your submission is for the New
Frontiers in Collaborative Decision Making STF. The deadline for
submissions is November 15, 2008. Manuscripts will be accepted for
processing starting August 1, 2008.
