Component-based Software Engineering is part of CompArch
see http://comparch2008.ipd.uka.de/ for more info.
Goals
=====
Component-based Software Engineering (CBSE) has emerged as a technology for
rapid assembly of flexible software systems. CBSE combines elements of software architecture, modular software design, software verification, configuration and deployment.
To foster exchange and collaboration with the software architecture community, CBSE is colocated with the Quality of Software Architectures Conference (QoSA) as part of the federated CompArch event.
The CBSE symposium has a track record of bringing together researchers and
practitioners from a variety of disciplines to promote a better understanding of CBSE from a diversity of perspectives, and to engage in active discussion and debate.
CBSE 2007 is open to all participants interested in CBSE and related areas. The symposium addresses participants from both universities and industry.
Scope
=====
The theoretical foundations of component specification, composition, analysis and verification continue to pose research challenges. While the engineering models and methods for component software development are slowly maturing, new trends in global services and distributed systems architectures push the limits of established
and tested component-based methods, tools and platforms:
* model-driven development and grid technologies with their high-performance demands in massive data storage, computational complexity and global co-scheduling of scientific models in flagship science, technology and medicine research;
* global software development with its lowering of cost of software capabilities and production, through automation, off-shoring and outsourcing of key components and subsystems;
* networked enterprise information systems and services architectures crossing enterprise, nation, legal and discipline boundaries;
* shift from (globally distributed) software products to pervasive and ubiquitous services supported by deep software-intensive infrastructures and middleware and by increasingly flexible, adaptive and autonomous client and application server software.
CBSE 2007 will include contributions that explore how the nature of component-based software engineering is being influenced by developments in the field of software and global enterprise technology. In addition to presentations of papers, the symposium will incorporate working and industry sessions.
Topics of interest
==================
* Design of component models;
* Theories (including taxonomies) of software composition
and binding;
* Co-ordination and choreography of component software,
services, workflows;

Call for Papers - Journal of Information, Communication and Ethics in

Special Issue on 'ICTs and Social Inclusion'
Important Dates
Final date for submission - June 15 2008
Submissions to:
Cathy Urquhart on c.urquhart(a)auckland.ac.nz or Yvonne Underhill-Sem on
y.underhill-sem(a)auckland.ac.nz
Guest Editors:
Cathy Urquhart, Information Systems and Operations Management,
University of Auckland Business School
Yvonne Underhill-Sem, Centre for Development Studies, Faculty of Arts,
University of Auckland
While information and communication technologies (ICTs) may appear
ubiquitous in the 21st century, access to those ICTs is far from
universal. The term 'social inclusion' has been suggested as a more
positive way of approaching this digital divide (Warschauer 2003).
Social inclusion is defined as 'participation in the determination of
both individual and collective life chances' (Stewart 2000). Thus there
is more to social inclusion than equal access to resources, and it
should be recognised that even wealthy individuals may be excluded
because of discrimination based on gender, race, sexual preference or
disability, or political persecution (Warschauer 2003). For instance,
there is evidence that African Americans are socially excluded from
participation in ICTs despite the US being a so-called developed
country, and this is true of many poorer communities in developed
countries. In developing countries, there is evidence that ICT
initiatives tend to favour those who already have access to ICTs through
a superior education (Warschauer 2003). It is inceasingly important to
locate ICTs within the particular social conditions because as with all
technologies, they are an integral aspect of socio-political, economic
and cultural development (Hufkin and Huyer 2006).
ICTs can play a crucial role in shaping collective life chances, for
instance the access to information that ICTs offer can help poverty
reduction. ICTs also facilitate the building of human and social capital
through increasing flows of information, and building on knowledge and
human capacity for poverty reduction (Urquhart, Liyanage and Kah 2007).
In addition to their empowering possibilities, ICTs have also inhibiting
tendencies especially when information and communication is not
integrated within development strategies. These contradictory tendencies
invite more careful theoretically nuanced analysis of ICTs and social
inclusion.
If the position of social inclusion implies equal access to technology
for all, then the sustainability of ICTs in terms of how they are
designed, used and disposed of is also of relevance. E-waste is a
problem in some developing countries, and can be seen to be contrary to
the social inclusion ideal as some countries end up processing other
countries -waste. Such actions are likely to have generational effects,
socially and ecologically. Social inclusion by implication has a concern
with equity and social justice - and environmental problems like global
warming do not respect political boundaries. For these reasons, we also
invite papers that look at novel perspectives on ICTs and environmental
issues.
Possible topics for papers include but are not limited to:
* Assessing government policies and initiatives that counter
social exclusion in ICTs
* Economic perspectives on access to ICTs such as government
policy and ICT infrastructure
* Access, ownership and control of ICTs (including the micro and
macro politics of artefacts)
* Social, spatial and philosophical dimensions of ICTs and social
inclusion
* ICTs and social inclusion as a result of gender inequality,
racial discrimination and other aspects of social exclusion
* The role of human and social capital in effective access and use
of ICTs
* The role of virtual communities in promoting social inclusion
* Unintended consequences of ICT for social inclusion
* ICTs and e-government
* The role of ICTs in economic development.
* How ICTs are reconfiguring traditional notions of citizenship
and participation.
* Sustainable ICTs and ICTs which assist with problems of climate
change and environmental monitoring.
Please feel free to contact Cathy Urquhart on c.urquhart(a)auckland.ac.nz
or Yvonne Underhill-Sem on y.underhill-sem(a)auckland.ac.nz with any
queries on submission. See author guidelines
<http://listmanager.emeraldinsight.com/t/8289/55074/1017/0/> for
submission requirements. The normal length requirement is 7000 words but
we are also inviting shorter submissions on cutting edge research that
is in an earlier stage of development. The papers should be emailed to
both guest editors. The submission should also include a structured
abstract (http://info.emeraldinsight.com/authors/guides/abstracts.htm

process validation, QoS guarantees, etc., place challenges in front.
Therefore, more academic research, facilitating
infrastructure, protocols and standards are being expected to shift
current business process management for supporting
collaborative business processes.
The 1st CBP workshop was successfully held in Brisbane, Australia, last
year, followed by a special issue on collaborative
business processes, in Information System Frontiers. With these, the 2nd
CBP workshop continues to stimulate the exchange of
ideas and experiences of researchers, practitioners, and engineers working
in the area of collaborative business process
management.

CALL FOR PAPERS:
Editor-in-Chief: Chuleeporn Changchit, Texas A&M University - Corpus
Christi
Mission
The mission of the Journal of Information Privacy and Security (JIPS) is
to serve both academics and practitioners as a reliable source on issues
of information privacy and security. The Journal is a high quality
refereed journal that seeks support from academicians, industry experts
and specific government agencies. The JIPS focuses on publishing
articles that address the paradoxical nature of privacy versus security
amidst current global conditions. It is increasingly important that
various constituents of information begin to understand their role in
finding solutions to achieve a delicate balance between security and
privacy.
The JIPS will facilitate understanding of the information assurance
technical framework as it pertains to government agencies, companies and
individuals. The topics may include the information privacy and security
issues pertaining to initiatives on counter-terrorism efforts around the
world, the impact of U.S. federal regulation and compliance issues
facing global corporations, the impact of privacy and security
initiatives within small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and e-gambling.
Article submissions are encouraged from both academics and
practitioners. Each issue will include high quality articles from
academics and practitioners, case studies, book reviews, and industry
interviews. The Journal addresses issues of privacy and security from a
global perspective and will consider articles with a cross-functional
focus. The Journal will include articles in the following areas:
- Information Assurance frameworks
- Network security and impact on corporate infrastructure
- Privacy laws and impact on information compliance issues
- The duality of privacy and security and impact on corporate operations
- Governmental regulations and changes on information security
requirements
- Data transfer issues across nations, states, and corporations
- Privacy and security requirements in B2B and B2C information flows
- Cross-functional aspects of information assurance and requirements
faced by various business functions within companies
- Web sites, portals and the issue of trust
- Information privacy and security as it relates to end-users
- Applications and case studies in privacy and security issues facing
business organizations, government agencies and individuals
- Emerging topics such as biometrics, software utilities, and IT
obligations and how they change the business environment
Review Process
Each article will be blind-reviewed by three members of the editorial
review board. Reviewer recommendation will be considered by the
Editor-in-Chief or an Associate Editor. For a revision and rewrite, a
revised paper will be sent to one of the Editors for final approval. The
final decision will be made by the Editor-in-Chief.
Interested authors should consult the journal's manuscript submission

Digitale Soziale Netze
http://www.digitale-soziale-netze.de
Ganztägiger Workshop an der Jahrestagung der
Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI)
8. - 13. September 2008, München
***************************************************
Tag des Workshops: Freitag 12. September 2008
* Vertrauen, Reputation, authentische Inhalte und Sozialkontrolle in digitalen Netzen
* Anwendungen, Services und APIs auf sozialen Portalen
* Soziale Suchmaschinen, Trendanalysen und Trendprognosen auf sozialen Portalen
* Spezielle Eigenschaften von Graphen bei sozialen Netzen
* Technische Modellierung sozialer Strukturen
* Business Cases und ökonomische Bewertung digitaler sozialer Netze
* Rechtliche und soziologische Aspekte von Online Communities
* Soziale Netzwerke und Spiele
* Technische Fragen bei digitalen sozialen Netzen
* Sicherheit, Privatheit, Identitätsschutz und Medienkompetenz bei sozialen Portalen
* Interoperabilität, Datenaustausch und -synchronisation bei sozialen Portalen
* Personalisierung und Anpassung an Nutzerpräferenzen
* Fallstudien, wenn sie besondere Alleinstellungsmerkmale aufweisen
