The role of information technology (IT) activity in an organization is the
cost-effective provision of IT services that meet organizational needs and
align with organizational strategy. IT Service Management (ITSM)
processes, that is those processes directly associated with the delivery
of high-quality, low-cost IT services, have emerged as a strategic focus
for industry with projects on-going in as many as 90% of U.S.
corporations.
The itSMF-USA Academic Forum informs the academic community of the best
practices, latest techniques, and opportunities in the practitioner
community. From an academic perspective, the purpose is to provide
teaching techniques, syllabi, cases, and so on to assist IT programs in
developing new courses or revising existing courses to emphasize ITSM
concepts and IT servitization. The audience is primarily comprised of
professors from North American universities, seeking both understanding of
ITSM tenets and teaching and research ideas and collateral.
This call is for the submission of two-page extended abstracts describing,
ITSM-related course offerings, techniques for servitizing existing IT/IS
courses, case studies, IT service simulations or other ITSM-related course
material or pedagogical techniques relevant to improving course offerings
and content within the ITSM domain.
Authors of the selected abstracts will be invited to present their work at
the 2009 itSMF Academic Forum, September 19-20, 2009 in Dallas, Texas.
ItSMF-USA supports this effort -- fully covering the costs of the Forum
and subsidizing academic speakers and Forum participants (paying one night
of hotel accommodations and one day attendance (9/21) to the itSMFusion
Conference immediately following the Academic Forum). A two-phased
selection process similar to that of the itSMFusion Conference will be
followed. First, during a phone screening of two-page abstracts, authors
will be interviewed to discuss their presentations and confirm their
commitment to attend if selected as speakers. Final selection of
presenters and notification will follow. Important dates associated with

Healthcare is often perceived to lag behind other industry sectors in
its uptake and adoption of new technology. eHealth is one such
technology which includes the areas of health informatics, electronic
medical/patient records, clinical decision support, telehealth. The main
purpose of eHealth is to provide better use of information in health
care settings, to improve the quality of patient care and the efficiency
of clinical processes. Many situations exist where the use of eCommerce
principles would be appropriate to establish new eHealth solutions, and
these warrant extensive research investigation. Services Computing has b
een described as a cross-discipline that covers the science and
technology of bridging the gap between Business Services and IT Services
(IEEE Services Computing Community). This role is supported by Web
services and service-oriented architecture (SOA), business consulting
methodology and utilities, business process modelling, transformation
and integration. The goal of Services Computing is to enable IT services
and computing technology to perform business services more efficiently
and effectively. Opportunities abound for the unique aspects of
healthcare to drive fundamental computing and IT research together with
leading applied research within the healthcare domain, that could
potentially be reapplied to areas outside of healthcare.

of high quality papers describing fully developed results or on-going
work on the following topics relevant for electronic commerce and
enterprise computing:
• *Commerce and Business System Architectures.* Design principles,
methods, and technologies for developing enterprise architectures that
support and reflect a company’s business needs. Their focus may be on
both, intra-organizational architectures (e.g., Enterprise Architecture,
Enterprise Application Integration, etc.) as well as on
inter-organizational integration (B2x, P2P integration and architectures).
• *Electronic Commerce Technologies. *Technologies reflecting the
technical, organizational, and legal requirements of the different
participants in electronic business transactions. These technologies
support the phases of an electronic business transaction: planning,
identification, negotiation, actualization, and post-actualization.
• *Business Process Management.* Enterprise Computing relies on
effective business process management to meet a company’s business
goals. CEC’09 focuses on new approaches to intra- as well as to
inter-organizational business processes for any stage of the business
process life cycle: design, modeling, execution, monitoring, and
optimization.
• *Business Intelligence.* Business intelligence (BI) refers to
technologies, applications, and practices for the collection,
integration, analysis, and presentation of business information. The
overall goal is to assess the present state of a business and to

Information Systems for Business Innovation: The Next Wave
This year's special theme is "Information Systems for Business
Innovation". Due to the widespread use of the web, businesses
innovate their propositions to customers and come up with new ICT-
enabled services. Such innovation requires understanding of the
business and of technology in an integrated way. Multi-disciplinary
research areas such as Service Science, Networked Enterprises, and
Social Networking are paying attention to ICT and business
innovation. The special events and invited speakers of CAiSE '09 will
shed light on this theme from various perspectives.
Goal: CAiSE'09 aims to bring together researchers and practitioners
in the field of information systems engineering. CAiSE'09 invites
submissions on the development, maintenance, and usage of
information systems - and especially submissions dealing with
information systems for business innovation. The topics of interests
include, but are not restricted to:
Methodologies and approaches for IS engineering
- Enterprise architecture and enterprise modelling

Important Dates:
Nov 30, 2008: Paper submission deadline
Feb 8, 2009: Notification of acceptance
Jun 8-12, 2009: Conference & workshops
Types of contributions: we invite four types of original and scientific
papers:
1. Formal and/or technical papers describe original solutions
(theoretical, methodological or conceptual) in the field of IS
engineering. A technical paper should clearly describe the situation or
problem tackled, the relevant state of the art, the position or solution
suggested and the potential - or, even better, the evaluated - benefits
of the contribution.
2. Evaluation papers evaluate existing problem situations or validate
proposed solutions with scientific means, i.e. by empirical studies,
experiments, case studies, simulations, formal analyses, mathematical
proofs, etc. Scientific reflection on problems and practices in industry
also falls into this category. The topic of the evaluation presented in
the paper as well as its causal or logical properties must be clearly
stated. The research method must be sound and appropriate.
3. Experience papers present problems or challenges encountered in
practice, relate success and failure stories, or report on industrial
practice. The focus is on 'what' and on lessons learned, not on an in-
depth analysis of 'why'. The practice must be clearly described and its
context must be given. Readers should be able to draw conclusions
for their own practice.
4. Exploratory Papers can describe completely new research
positions or approaches, in order to face to a generic situation arising
because of new ICT tools or new kinds of activities or new IS
challenges. They must describe precisely the situation and demonstrate
how current methods, tools, ways of reasoning, or meta-models are
inadequate. They must rigorously present their approach and
demonstrate its pertinence and correctness to addressing the identified
situation.
Submission Conditions: Papers should be submitted in PDF format.
The results described must be unpublished and must not be under
review elsewhere. Submissions must conform to Springer's LNCS
format and should not exceed 15 pages, including all text, figures,
references and appendices. Submissions not conforming to the LNCS
format, exceeding 15 pages, or being obviously out of the scope of
the conference, will be rejected without review. Information about the
Springer LNCS format can be found at
http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html. Three to five
keywords characterising the paper should be indicated at the end of
the abstract.
Publication: Accepted papers will be presented at CAiSE'09 and
published in the conference proceedings, which is published in the
Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS).

SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS
"5th German Workshop on Experience Management"
http://www.uni-siegen.de/fb5/wijpvp/gwem09/index.html
within the 5th Conference "Professional Knowledge Management - Experiences and Visions"
March 25 - 27, 2009 in Solothurn/Switzerland
http://www.km-conference2009.org/
>>> Submission deadline for workshop contributions: October 31, 2008 <<<
Motivation
==========
Efficient utilization of experience is gaining in importance since expertise, "know how", applied knowledge can be assessed as one of the most important resources and the key issue for successfully competing organizations in almost every sector of economy. In the context of this workshop as well as the workshops previously held in this series, 'experience' is mainly considered as a form of knowledge obtained during the solution of problems. Therefore, similar but not identical issues from approaches developed in Knowledge Management, all aspects of the whole lifecycle of 'experience' are in the focus of this workshop: Analyzing, modeling, storing, retrieving, developing, and reusing experience are major challenges to Experience Management (EM) and hence can be in the center of contributions to this workshop. Based on these lifecycle-oriented issues, aspects of applying EM in "real world" scenarios (e.g. in manufacturing industry, commerce etc.) coming from a variety of scientific communities are as well of great interest.
Hence, besides the traditionally strong focus of this workshop series on the design, development and integration of intelligent systems and methods for managing experience, subjects relevant in Experience Management may be contributed by different communities from computer science (e.g. aspects of collaborative/"Web 2.0" techniques in the development/use/distribution of experiences), mathematics (e.g. analysis and design of algorithms from machine learning, CBR, network analysis), social science (e.g. modeling and analysis of usage and development of experience in networks, acceptance of experience-based derived solutions), and business administration/economics (e.g. assessing the economic value of EM in enterprises).
The overall objective of this workshop is to provide an interdisciplinary forum where practitioners and researchers can exchange ideas, concepts and solutions concerning the design and implementation of Experience Management systems, present practical experiences from applications in any domain, and discuss future research directions.
Topics of Interest
==================
Submissions from all areas contributing to the development and application of intelligent EM systems are welcome. We explicitly encourage paper submissions which are not mainstream but from communities within mathematics, social sciences or economics in order to obtain a more interdisciplinary view on the subject.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
* modeling, representation, discovery, and use of experience
* retrieval techniques

Introduction
------------
Recent years have witnessed the emergence of novel database
applications in various non-traditional domains, including
location-based services, sensor networks, RFID systems, and
biological and biometric databases. Traditionally, data mining has
been widely used to reveal interesting patterns in the vast amounts
of data generated by such applications. However, for most of these
emerging domains, data is often riddled with uncertainty, arising,
for instance, from inherent measurement inaccuracies, sampling and
curation errors, and network latencies, or even from intentional
"blurring" of the data (to preserve anonymity). Such forms of data
uncertainty have to be handled carefully, or else the results of long
and tedious data analyses could be inaccurate or even incorrect.
The goal of this special issue is to collect and distill the
knowledge from experts in developing mining and data processing
methods that are "uncertainty-aware." We welcome papers that develop
appropriate uncertainty models for data-mining tools and/or
investigate efficient complex data-analysis techniques for large
probabilistic and uncertain databases. We also seek paper submissions
that extend classical mining and data-analysis algorithms for
uncertain and probabilistic data to provide statistical guarantees
over the results. In general, topics of interest for this special
issue include (but are not limited to) the following areas:
- Models and structures for uncertain/probabilistic information in
data mining and complex data analysis;
- Clustering spatially- and temporally-uncertain data;
- Association rule mining and classification of uncertain data;
- Machine learning aspects in uncertain data processing;
- Incorporating data uncertainty models into traditional
data-analysis algorithms;
- Mining moving-object trajectories and biological data with noise;
- Optimization of data-analysis queries and mining applications over
uncertain/probabilistic databases;
- Identification and similarity matching of objects with uncertainty; and
- Efficient mining and analysis of uncertain/probabilistic data streams.

The 4th International Workshop on
Workflow Systems in e-Science
(WSES 09)
http://staff.science.uva.nl/~zhiming/workshop/wses/
in conjunction with
9th IEEE International Symposium on Cluster Computing and the Grid
(http://grid.sjtu.edu.cn/ccgrid2009/)
May 2009, Shanghai, China
-----------------------------------------------------
Aims and scope
The development in Internet and Grid technologies has greatly enhanced the activities in scientific research; more and more new scientific advances are achieved by experiments which consist of complex sets of computations and large volumes of data. Workflow systems emerge as a key tool to integrate different computing and data analysis components, and to control the logic between computing tasks in experiments. During the past years, workflow systems attracted enormous research interests. Focusing on different aspects of workflow systems and applications, several workshops on scientific workflows have been organized, such as WORKS and SWF. And workflow systems have also been a main objective of a number of research projects: the Dutch Virtual Laboratory for e-Science (VL-e), and the EU funded Knowledge Workflow Grid (K-WfGrid) and the ViroLab project. Driven by specific applications, a large collection of workflow systems have been prototyped such as VLAM, Taverna and Pegasus. However, due to the diversity of the application domains and more importantly the increasing ambitions of scientists to extend the experiment scenarios, there is still a big gap between the functionality implemented in existing workflow systems and their usability in different application domains. The development of effective workflow systems still faces challenging issues like workflow sharing and discovery, provenance, human in the loop workflow execution, and workflow interoperability.
The workshop on Workflow Systems in e-Science (WSES) focuses on practical aspects of scientific workflow management systems: design, implementation, applications in all fields of computational science, interoperability among workflows and the e-Science infrastructure, e.g., knowledge framework, for workflow management. The workshop aims to provide a forum for researchers and developers in the field of e-Science to exchange the latest experience and research ideas on scientific workflow management and e-Science.
WSES09 is the fourth edition in the series of the workshop. The WSES08, WSES 07 and WSES 06 were successfully held in the context of CCGrid 2008, ICCS 2007 and 2006. A special session for WSES 07 will appear in the International Journal of Future Generations of Computer Systems (FGCS), and selected papers of WSES 06 have appeared in a special issue of Scientific Programming Journal.
Topics
Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts that demonstrate current research in all areas of scientific workflow management in e-Science. The workshop solicits novel papers on a broad range of topics:
* Workflow modeling techniques
* Workflow language
* Workflow engines
* Workflow interoperability
* Semantic techniques in workflow
* Dynamic workflow control
* Workflow provenance
* Web 2 in scientific workflow
* Workflow verification and validation
* AI techniques in workflow management, e.g., planning, runtime control and user support;
* Security control in managing workflow
* Real-world applications of scientific workflow
Paper submission and publication
The papers are limited to 6 pages each and they must follow the IEEE 8.5"x11" two-column format guidelines described at http://www.computer.org/portal/pages/cscps/cps/cps_forms.html. The papers will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of expression. For accepted papers, advance registration is required in order to include the final camera ready version in the CCGrid 09 proceedings which will be published by IEEE Computer Society. And at least one author should be registered in advance and will present the paper in the workshop. The paper has to be submitted via online submission system.
