9th Workshop of the Multimedia Metadata Community
with a special focus on context-aware mobile multimedia services
http://coresa2009.enseeiht.fr/#workshops
March 19th-20th
To be held in conjunction with CORESA'09
Invited speaker: Timo Ojala, University of Oulu, Finland
Background:
It can be expected in the near future that the number of created digital
multimedia content will rise dramatically. Multimedia metadata is currently
the only way to cope with problems like semantics based retrieval or
organization of content and provides means to specify adaptation and
delivery constraints and rules. In addition, the integration of accurate
hand-held positioning within mobile phones, PDAs, portable computer and the
like have brought location-based services directly to individuals,
transforming the way we work, travel or play. Therefore location has become
an important element of the context when using a mobile multimedia
application. The usage context becomes richer and provides new hints for
search, delivery and consumption to individual user's situations.
This workshop proposes to disseminate ideas on multimedia content analysis,
indexing and retrieval, multimedia semantics and in special on the usage of
location information for smart media acquisition and multimedia content
analysis.
Organization:
The Multimedia Metadata Community (www.multimedia-metadata.info) has already
organized a series of 8 successful workshops in the past taking place in
Aachen, Berlin, Graz and Klagenfurt.
The Multimedia Metadata Community welcomes and encourages submissions from
outside the core community to broaden aspects and extend the active and
successful community and network with new members.
The 9th meeting will be organized in Toulouse as a special session of the
13th French Multimedia Conference on Compression and Representation of
Audiovisual Signals (CORESA 2009). Both events will share joint panels and
sessions bringing researchers and industry experts to fruitful discussions.
On March 18th afternoon, an industrial session including LBS demos of the
Toulouse Open platform (www.navigation-satellites-toulouse.com) will
bootstrap the academic program.
The WMM'09 workshop is organized by the Institute of Research in Informatics
(IRIT) of the University of Toulouse (www.irit.fr). The WMM'09 chairs are
Romulus Grigoras (romulus.grigoras AT enseeiht.fr) and Vincent Charvillat
(vincent.charvillat AT enseeiht.fr).

This is the first call for papers for the 10th European Conference on
Knowledge Management, which will be held at the Università Degli Studi Di
Padova, Vincenza, Italy on the 3-4 September 2009.
A main implication of the knowledge economy is that the only way to
prosperity is to make learning and knowledge creation of prime relevance.
Issues of knowledge creation, use and transfer and innovation competencies
building have moved to the forefront of attention in corporate competitive
strategy and in economic, social and industrial policy as well. Competing
worldwide demands individual and organisational creativity, high level
skills and capabilities and adaptive and innovative learning organisations
and institutions. To keep abreast of the volatile and changing environment
organisations, countries and regions need to develop a better
understanding of how knowledge and intellectual capital deliver effective
business processes and high value goods and services. In particular, they
have to develop awareness of and mechanisms to manage the risks that are
inherent to this new context and improved methods to link IC and KM to the
firms future streams of cash flows and GDP growth. ECKM 2009 provides an
opportunity for academics and practitioners from Europe and elsewhere who
are involved in the study; management, development and implementation of
knowledge management initiatives to come together and exchange ideas.
The advisory group for the conference invites submissions of papers on
both the theory and advanced practice of all aspects of knowledge
management (KM) and intellectual capital (IC). The conference in September

CALL FOR PAPERS:
Editor-in-Chief: Chuleeporn Changchit, Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi
Mission
The mission of the Journal of Information Privacy and Security (JIPS) is to serve both academics and practitioners as a reliable source on issues of information privacy and security. The Journal is a high quality refereed journal that seeks support from academicians, industry experts and specific government agencies. The JIPS focuses on publishing articles that address the paradoxical nature of privacy versus security amidst current global conditions. It is increasingly important that various constituents of information begin to understand their role in finding solutions to achieve a delicate balance between security and privacy.
The JIPS will facilitate understanding of the information assurance technical framework as it pertains to government agencies, companies and individuals. The topics may include the information privacy and security issues pertaining to initiatives on counter-terrorism efforts around the world, the impact of U.S. federal regulation and compliance issues facing global corporations, the impact of privacy and security initiatives within small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and e-gambling.
Article submissions are encouraged from both academics and practitioners. Each issue will include high quality articles from academics and practitioners, case studies, book reviews, and industry interviews. The Journal addresses issues of privacy and security from a global perspective and will consider articles with a cross-functional focus. The Journal will include articles in the following areas:
- Information Assurance frameworks
- Network security and impact on corporate infrastructure
- Privacy laws and impact on information compliance issues
- The duality of privacy and security and impact on corporate operations
- Governmental regulations and changes on information security requirements
- Data transfer issues across nations, states, and corporations
- Privacy and security requirements in B2B and B2C information flows
- Cross-functional aspects of information assurance and requirements faced by various business functions within companies
- Web sites, portals and the issue of trust
- Information privacy and security as it relates to end-users
- Applications and case studies in privacy and security issues facing business organizations, government agencies and individuals
- Emerging topics such as biometrics, software utilities, and IT obligations and how they change the business environment
Review Process
Each article will be blind-reviewed by three members of the editorial review board. Reviewer recommendation will be considered by the Editor-in-Chief or an Associate Editor. For a revision and rewrite, a revised paper will be sent to one of the Editors for final approval. The final decision will be made by the Editor-in-Chief.

CALL FOR CHAPTERS
Informing, Educating, Assessing, and Managing Effectively
with E-portfolios:
Applications in Education, Business, and Public Service
Contact: Nicole Buzzetto-More, nabuzzetto-more(a)umes.edu
Proposals due January 2nd 2009
Electronic portfolios offer a scalable and comprehensive means to document
individual and organizational growth and progress, showcase/market talent
and achievements, provide a method of assessment and evaluation, expand
professional development, examine the efficacy of operations and programs,
manage projects, and engage in student and/or labor management. The
intended users vary among portfolio systems which may be geared towards
government agencies, nonprofits, business and industry, K-12 education,
vocational/professional development training, individual usage, teacher
education programs, and/or general higher education use. Further, within
individual institutions the platform may be built to accommodate the needs
of students, employees, faculty, external stakeholders and auditors, and or
management. When thoughtfully implemented the benefits are numerous, serving
a number of purposes and benefiting multiple stakeholders.
To date, a well rounded discussion of electronic portfolios as they apply to
multiple endeavors is missing from the literature. This forthcoming book
will discuss the implications of electronic portfolios in education, labor,
and organizational development; best practices and real world examples;
system options and considerations; offer models for implementation; and
management, and address sustainability issues.
The publisher is the international non-profit publisher the Informing
Science Press located in Santa Rosa, California. As a leader in non-profit
publishing, all Informing Science Press publications are made available in
print at very reasonable prices as well as free online to everyone
regardless of membership status. To visit the Informing Science Press
webpage go to http://informingsciencepress.com/.
The proposed peer reviewed volume will contain a collection of chapters
published by multiple authors. Suggested topics include the following:
. Overview of electronic portfolio terms and concepts
. History of electronic portfolio systems
. Implications and Applications of e-portfolios in K-12 Education
. Implications and Applications of e-portfolios in Higher Education
. Electronic portfolios as assessment systems
. Electronic portfolios for life long learning
