The opportunity through augmenting electronic business processes in this way is highly valued providing the core features of the systems are implemented correctly. The empirical evidence would suggest that essential consideration should be given to logistics and vendor managed inventory (B2B) as well as a critical need to focus upon customer relationship management (B2C). A recent survey indicates that 91% of North American companies believe that cyber chain management is vital to their business success and only 2% of these organizations felt that their systems were good. Clearly, significant additional attention is required to enable the recognition of concerns to be identified and solutions posed. This CALL FOR PAPERS addresses these issues and invites submissions relating to any perceived topics which are be identified to support and enhance CYBER CHAIN MANAGEMENT (CCM). Papers are invited for this special edition of the Business Process Management Journal (BPMJ) on Cyber Chain Management. The aim is to publish high quality original work highlighting the characteristics of CCM and the extent and nature of competitive processes. In particular factors affecting technological acceptance, formulation and implementation are required whilst acknowledging the engagement and interface of customer demands. These should include networks of suppliers, channels of distribution and alternative models from existing physical system activities. It would be useful to articulate new features for dynamic trading from adopting these approaches and to challenge current assumptions relating to business performance and strategy generally. The coverage of topics is quite liberal and few constraints are imposed other than a specific focus on CCM issues. The core objective for this special issue is to provide a vehicle for a well argued presentation of theoretical constructs and empirical findings which extend our existing knowledge of the processes involved. Contributed papers may deal with, but are not limited to: · cyber purchasing · salient features of CCM · logistics and channel management · customer relationship management · current competitive processes · challenged assumptions for CCM · optimization of virtual environments · virtual enterprises A 300-word proposal should be sent, for guidance on appropriateness, to the guest editor <r.hackney(a)mmu.ac.uk> by e-mail. The workshop is aimed at discussing issues connected to the goal-oriented view on business processes. The most important topics suggested for discussions: (a) representation of goals and movement to the goals (b) goal-oriented business process patterns, (c) goal-oriented methods for business process analysis and (re)engineering. The workshop does not focus on any particular method or technology. All possible approaches (be it object-oriented, agent-oriented, based on Petri nets, etc.) to exploitation of goal-oriented view on business processes are very welcome. The aim of the workshop is discussions, rather than presentations. A position paper does not necessarily need to include the answers to the problems of business process analysis, reengineering, or control. We will try to do that providing: 1) a conceptual definition, following Ackoffs (1962) description and method of such a kind of definition, and 2) following Peirces (1931-5,1958) conception of meaning, where the practical consequences should be included. To our knowledge, no attempt has been done up to the present neither to find a Peircean meaning to the notion of information, nor to start a process of describing a systemic notion of information. Consequently, we will try to integrate the different definitions made on information. But to integrate we should first differentiate what is to be integrated. Thus, we will typify information conceptions in subjective and objective, providing brief description and analysis of each type, integrating them in the context of a systemic notion of information, and drawing the respective pragmatic consequences, as required by Peirce, for any meaning description, and by a pragmatic-teleological systemic epistemology (Churchmann, 1971) Keywords: Information Meaning, Pragmatic Meaning, Systemic Definition, Information Systems, Informing Sciences. Mary Helen Fagan University of Texas at Tyler, Texas, USA Information & Referral (I&R) services help people obtain relevant and accurate information to meet specific needs. The provision of traditional I&R services by skilled specialists is being augmented by web-enabled I&R services, raising a number of issues and opportunities. First, this paper analyzes the literature on I&R services in order to understand key issues and common practices in the development of I&R services. Then a framework is presented that explores two key dimensions of I&R services: the communities of interest and communities of place that they serve. This I&R community analysis framework is illustrated with a number of mini-case studies, and conclusions are drawn regarding how it may be applied. The findings of this study should be of interest to many organizations that want to use the web to make information readily accessible to the people they serve. The coining of terms such as "NAMA" (Not Another Modeling Approach) and "YAMA" (Yet Another Modeling Approach) serves as a wake-up call to the community. A systematic evaluation of modeling methods is needed to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each method and the appropriate contexts and tasks where each is most suitably applied. This understanding has important consequences for the use of existing methods and the design of new methods (e.g. method engineering). Three categories of formal evaluation techniques may be identified: purely theoretical (e.g. ontological evaluation), purely empirical (e.g. experimental comparison), and a hybrid of the two (i.e. theoretical approach with empirical evidence). Though the need for such studies is well recognized, there is a paucity of such research in the literature. Evaluation of modeling methods remains a challenge in information systems engineering. There is a clear need for innovative, effective, and efficient techniques for such evaluation. The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners interested in modeling methods in systems analysis and design to meet, and exchange research ideas and results. It also provides researchers an opportunity to present their research papers and experience reports, and to take part in open discussions. The seventh in a highly successful series of workshops, EMMSAD'02 is jointly sponsored by the Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE) and the International Federation for Information Processing Working Group 8.1 (IFIP8.1). Even with some attempts to standardize (e.g. UML for object-oriented design), new modeling methods are constantly being introduced, many of which differ only marginally from existing approaches. The coining of terms such as "NAMA" (Not Another Modeling Approach) and "YAMA" (Yet Another Modeling Approach) serves as a wake-up call to the community. A systematic evaluation of modeling methods is needed to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each method and the appropriate contexts and tasks where each is most suitably applied. This understanding has important consequences for the use of existing methods and the design of new methods (e.g. method engineering). Three categories of formal evaluation techniques may be identified: purely theoretical (e.g. ontological evaluation), purely empirical (e.g. experimental comparison), and a hybrid of the two (i.e. theoretical approach with empirical evidence). Though the need for such studies is well recognized, there is a paucity of such research in the literature. Evaluation of modeling methods remains a challenge in information systems engineering. There is a clear need for innovative, effective, and efficient techniques for such evaluation. The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners interested in modeling methods in systems analysis and design to meet, and exchange research ideas and results. It also provides researchers an opportunity to present their research papers and experience reports, and to take part in open discussions. The seventh in a highly successful series of workshops, EMMSAD'02 is jointly sponsored by the Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE) and the International Federation for Information Processing Working Group 8.1 (IFIP8.1). Evaluation of modeling methods for emerging technologies (e.g. web-based applications, enterprise systems, e-business, mobile information systems) is strongly encouraged. Case studies and experience reports are also welcome. IMPORTANT DATES (2002): Deadline for papers (received): March 8 Notification of acceptance: April 15 Camera-ready copies: May 5 Workshop: May 27-28 SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: The workshop accepts two types of submissions -- Completed Research and Research-In-Progress. Completed research papers should include analysis of data and discussion on research findings. Research-in-progress papers report on research that is well under way with preliminary results available at the time of the conference. Please use the following format for your submissions: * For Completed Research submissions, the paper should not exceed 5,000 words (excluding references and appendices). * For Research-In-Progress submissions, the paper should not exceed 2,500 words (excluding references and appendices). * Include a cover page with title of paper as well as the authors' names, affiliations, phones, faxes, and email addresses. The total number of words in the paper (excluding cover page, tables, and references) and the submission category (i.e. Completed Research or Research-In-Progress) should be indicated on the cover page. * The second page should begin with the title of the paper, author names and affiliations, and an abstract of no more than 150 words.
