WORKSHOP FOCUS The Eighth International Workshop on Groupware follows on the success of previous CRIWG workshops held in Lisbon, Portugal (1995), Puerto Varas, Chile (1996), El Escorial, Spain (1997), Buzios, Brazil (1998), Cancun, Mexico (1999), Madeira Island, Portugal (2000), and Darmstadt, Germany (2001). The CRIWG workshops have been motivated by recent advances in computer-supported cooperative work, and by the need for CSCW to meet the challenges of new application areas. This workshop aims at providing a forum for academic researchers and professionals to exchange experiences and to engage in discussions of the research issues in designing, building, and using groupware applications. CRIWG is rooted in the Ibero-American community of researchers in CSCW, but it is completely open to contributors and participants from anywhere. Researchers can report these experiences to CRIWG through two categories of contributions: full technical papers and work in progress papers. In addition, Ph.D. candidates can submit to the doctoral colloquium. All topics related to the groupware area are welcome, including: * Virtual groups and virtual worlds * Collaborative workspaces, Tailoring * Workflow management and coordination * Groupware development frameworks and toolkits * Distribution support * Group decision and negotiation support, Meetingware * Multi-user interfaces, Group Awareness * Hypermedia systems, Digital libraries * Cooperative Learning * Monitoring and analysis of group interactions * Organizational computing * Social aspects of group work * Work modeling It is expected that the workshop will promote a very intensive interaction among those attending it, giving ample time to discuss papers. Each full paper will have a 45-minute slot for presentation and discussion. Work in Progress will have 30 minutes. In both cases, a moderator will present his/her view of the paper to initiate the discussion. The Workshop Proceedings will include contributions accepted by the Program Committee, and will be published by Springer Verlag in the Lecture Notes of Computer Science (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/index.html). SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Electronic submission, up to 20 pages (10 pages for work in progress), following the Springer LNCS format (see below), is due on April 22, 2002. We will use a double-blind reviewing process. Please, do not include the author's name and affiliation or any indication, which may disclose the paper authorship, in the submitted paper itself. Instead, submit a separate submission page with the paper title, the authors including their affiliations, the contact author, the submission category (full paper or work in progress), an abstract and up to 5 keywords. The submission website will provide further instructions. In the meantime, a temporary web site is installed at: http://ipsi.fhg.de/concert/criwg02/ and http://www.dcc.uchile.cl/~luguerre/criwg/ Ph.D. candidates can electronically submit a position paper to the doctoral colloquium, which will be held prior to the workshop. As a result of the reviewing process, the Program Committee may suggest changes in the format and/or the contents of the paper, including the category of the paper. In this case, a paper will be conditionally accepted. The PC Chair will decide on the final acceptance or rejection, based on the analysis of the revised paper. The format for the final version will be the Springer LNCS format (see http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html), which includes e.g. templates for MS Word and Latex. EDOC 2002 is the latest in the successful series of conferences, which since 1997 has brought together leading researchers and industry experts to discuss problems, solutions, and experiences in meeting current and future enterprise distributed computing needs. The introduction of enterprise business and information systems still poses significant organisational, technical and engineering challenges. Enterprise systems must increasingly support inter-organisational collaborations that integrate business processes while satisfying the flexibility and security requirements of each business partner. The requirement for loosely coupled, event-driven enterprise applications both within and between enterprises is becoming increasingly apparent. Novel solutions, such as the OMG's Model Driven Architecture(TM), are needed for a closer integration of software systems with organisational goals, policies and procedures. These solutions also cater for managing the deployment, evolution, and re-engineering of enterprise components and services. However, improved tools and techniques are required for the co-ordination and integration of distributed software as well as the development of services that support mobility of users, devices and applications. Although the growing maturity of distributed object and component technologies provides a solid foundation for enterprise software development, major issues remain to be addressed. The conference will include a high-quality technical program, tutorials, invited speakers and panel discussions. EDOC 2002 encourages submissions from practitioners on case studies, experience reports and applications in distributed object computing, as well as submissions on novel research and engineering achievements. Technical Program ----------------- EDOC 2002 invites contributions on all aspects of distributed object and component /service based enterprise computing. Papers must describe original work and must not have been accepted or submitted for publication elsewhere. Submitted papers will be evaluated for technical contribution, originality, and significance. Major topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * System modelling techniques and tools (e.g. Model Driven Architecture(TM), meta-modelling, platform-dependent and independent models, mappings between models, generation of systems from models, information repositories, meta-object facility.) * Enterprise modelling techniques and standards (e.g. specification and implementation of business processes, rules and policies, EDOC profile for UML, role modelling.) * Web-services and component-based application development and operation for enterprise systems. * Enterprise services and infrastructure support (e.g. service discovery, auto-configuration, messaging systems, security policies, workflow management, enterprise-level uses of, and enhancements to execution platforms such as J2EE or .NET.) * Technologies for inter-enterprise co-operation and integration (e.g. business to business interactions, supply-chain management. )and customer-enterprise co-operation (e.g. customer relationship management.) * Enterprise frameworks and technologies for the electronic marketplace (e.g. ebXML, BizTalk, e-speak.) * Models, case studies and experience reports on vertical applications (e.g. OMG s domain task forces, financial applications.) * Implementation and architecture issues of enterprise systems. * Integration of mobile devices into enterprise systems. Paper Submissions: Papers should not exceed 12 pages in the IEEE format. Please consult the IEEE author guidelines for details (http://www.computer.org/cspress/instruct.htm). Submissions should be made electronically in PDF (preferred) or PostScript format. All paper submissions will be carefully reviewed by at least 3 international experts and comments will be returned to author(s) with each review. Presented papers will be included in the Conference Proceedings, published by the IEEE CS Press. The paper submission process has two separate stages. First you will have to submit the details of the paper (title, authors, keywords, abstract). At the paper submission deadline, you will have to submit the electronic version of your paper. Discussions in the workshop will address questions such as the following: What is model-driven development? How effective is it? What is a model-driven architecture (MDA) architecture? How can models be used to support agile development of systems? Topics and Motivation "Extreme Programming", "Agile Modeling", "Model-driven software development", "Model-driven architectures", "Agile Development", "OMG's MDA". These catch-phrases are currently the topic of much discussion in the software development world. Some software methodologists say that modeling should drive the whole process. Some say modeling should be only done informally, and that models should not be kept for future use (i.e., that they are temporary artifacts produced during development). How useful is modeling? When should it be done? Can modeling be demonstrated to provide business value? Can architectures be developed using "agile" or XP approaches? What makes an approach agile, and what makes agile approaches advantageous? Can model-driven approaches be agile? Can we quantify the benefits of agile approaches? These are all questions currently receiving a lot of attention in the software development world. This workshop solicits papers on any of these, or related topics, especially papers integrating agile approaches and model-driven development, and papers showing empirical support for these approaches. Papers focusing on the integration (or lack of ability to integrate) of agile and model-driven approaches fits well within the OOIS conference theme, "Information System Integration." Relevant topics include, but are not limited to: * Issues in model-driven development * OMG's Model-Driven Architecture (MDA) * The value of models (e.g., business models, enterprise architectures, requirements and design models) * Modeling techniques and notations relevant to IS development * Assumptions underlying model-driven development * The compatibility (or tension) between agile and model-driven development * Business value of modeling * Empirical validation of the value of modeling, especially using the OMG's UML and MDA * Empirical support for the effectiveness of model-driven and agile development approaches * Empirical validation of the benefits of Agile development (XP, Scrum, etc.) Participants This workshop is intended for researchers and practitioners who are interested in model-driven development and architectures, how to better build and use them, what form(s) they take, and their value. It is assumed that participants are familiar with basic concepts and issues in the domain of model-driven development. Selection Process There are two types of submissions: position papers and full papers. Position papers may be up to 5 pages in length, while full papers may be up to 15 pages. All submissions should be single-spaced, using 12-point font, and have 1-inch margins all around. Postscript, Word, and PDF formats are acceptable. A Program Committee will review the submissions and select papers that present relevant and interesting ideas and concepts that can contribute to the discussions that will take place in the workshop. OOIS plans to print a Springer proceedings of the workshop. Extended versions of outstanding papers may be recommended for publication in an appropriate journal.
