DESCRIPTION AND SCOPE OF EKAW, ICBO, AND FOIS
The International Conference on Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge
Management (EKAW) is concerned with all aspects of eliciting, acquiring,
modelling and managing knowledge, as well its role in the construction
of knowledge-intensive systems and services for the semantic web,
knowledge management, e-business, natural language processing,
intelligent information integration, etc. The focus of EKAW 2020 will be
“Ethical and Trustworthy Knowledge Engineering”. EKAW workshops should
provide an informal setting where participants have the opportunity to
discuss specific technical topics in an atmosphere that fosters the
active exchange of ideas. EKAW tutorials should enable attendees to
appreciate, evaluate, or utilize relevant trends, methods, tools,
models, etc.
The International Conference on Biomedical Ontologies (ICBO) is a
premier annual conference series that brings together researchers,
students and professionals involved in the development and application
of ontologies in all areas of biology, medicine, diseases, human health,
genome biology, environment, biomes, nutrition, food, plants,
agriculture and others. ICBO workshops provide the opportunity to
discuss and progress a variety of issues at the forefront of biomedical
ontologies and to build communities around specific topic areas. ICBO
tutorials should provide a rich forum for education, training and
dissemination to advance the next generation of biomedical ontologists
and share knowledge about infrastructure, standards and platforms for
advanced tooling.
The International Conference on Formal Ontology in Information System
(FOIS) is a biennial conference, which is dedicated to interdisciplinary
research at the intersection of philosophical ontology, linguistics,
logic, cognitive science, and computer science, as well as in the
applications of ontological analysis to specific domains. FOIS is the
flagship conference of the International Association for Ontology and
its Applications (IAOA). Given its scope and since FOIS is a single
track conference, presentations at FOIS typically cover a broad range of
subjects. FOIS workshops complement the main conference by providing a
venue for presentations and discussions on a particular subject area.
FOIS tutorials should provide an introduction to methods, theories,
standards, infrastructure or tools that are of interest to FOIS
participants.

Systems analysis involves examining business problems (opportunities)
and identifying possible solutions, whereas systems design includes the
identification, specification, and implementation of an information
technology solution. The combined field of Systems Analysis and Design
(SAND) deals with all issues related to the development of systems and,
as such, is of central importance to the Information Systems discipline,
including understanding how businesses can create value with new digital
technologies. The SIGSAND track provides a forum for discussing research
related to systems development tools, methodologies and other activities
throughout the systems development life cycle (SDLC). This includes
requirements determination, modeling techniques and languages, agile
systems development practices, empirical evaluation of analysis and
design methods, user involvement in systems development, open source
development, design of systems architecture, and other technical and
organizational issues in systems development. Topics include, but are
not limited to:
− Systems Analysis and Design: Methodologies and Design Processes
− Systems Analysis and Design: Empirical Evaluations, Modeling Methods,
Techniques, and Languages
− Systems Analysis and Design: Requirements Elicitation, Modeling, and
Validation
− Analysis and Design for Service-Oriented Enterprises
− Micro-service-based Development
− Contemporary Issues in Agile Development
− Strategic Software Management: Issues, Experiences, and Theory
− Technical and Managerial Issues in Open Source Development
− User Participation and Involvement in Information Systems Development
− Impact of Systems Analysis and Design on IS use (e.g., adoption,
information quality)
− Application of SAND concepts and principles beyond IS development
(e.g., in data analytics)
− Organizational Issues in Systems Analysis and Design
General Systems Analysis and Design
− New and Emerging SAND Tools and Approaches
Manuscripts can be submitted for the broad Systems Analysis and Design
track, or they can be submitted to a more focused mini-track within the
SAND track. Two more focused mini-tracks that are a part of the Systems
Analysis and Design Track are:
SIGSAND Minitrack 1: Contemporary Issues in DevOps and Agile Development
Minitrack Chairs:
Sridhar Nerur (snerur(a)exchange.uta.edu)
Venugopal Balijepally (balijepa(a)oakland.edu)
It is fair to say that agile methodologies – in some form or manner –
have been widely accepted in industry. We are farther along in our
understanding of various aspects of agile development, including but not
limited to its adoption, adaptation, scalability, social aspects,
project management, distributed development, and enterprise agility.
However, the emergence of new technologies, the increase in regulatory
requirements, and the enormous changes that have occurred in the
development landscape present opportunities for new areas of research.
For example, the advent of DevOps and its interplay with agile has
scarcely been empirically investigated. Likewise, agile methodologies
appear to be a natural fit for Business Analytics projects. Yet, there
is not much empirical research on their efficacy on such projects. This
mini-track provides a forum for researchers to address fundamental
issues regarding DevOps and agile development practices as well as
contemporary topics raised by its widespread acceptance and use.
SIGSAND Minitrack 2: Modeling Languages, Methodologies, Methods,
Techniques, and Tools
Minitrack Chairs:
Dominik Bork (dominik.bork(a)univie.ac.at)
John Erickson (johnerickson(a)unomaha.edu)
Xin Tan (xtan(a)fdu.edu)
Keng Siau (siauk(a)mst.edu)
This minitrack recognizes the important role modeling languages,
methodologies, methods, and tools play in SAND. This minitrack provides
a forum for researchers, educators, and practitioners working in the
areas of modelling language development, use, modification, and
evaluation. We are particularly interested in papers that combine
conceptual modelling with emerging trends like Artificial Intelligence
and in pieces that target the changing role modelling and models can
take now and in future.
An objective of this minitrack is to work toward a more standardized set
of concepts which would in turn benefit researchers, educators, and
practitioners in this field while also considering recent developments
in domain-specific conceptual modelling. We welcome empirical,
conceptual, theoretical, and technical pieces, and are open to all
research methods.
The most promising submissions will be invited for a fast-track to the
Journal of Database Management or Enterprise Modelling and Information
Systems Architectures – International Journal of Conceptual Modeling.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

Subject: [AISWorld] CHI2020 Workshop - Final Call for 3rd Body as
Starting Point: Exploring Inbodied Interaction Themes
Date: Thu, 6 Feb 2020 16:29:32 +0000

CHI2020 - Sunday, April 26 - short position papers due Feb 11
Dear colleagues, we invite you to year three of:
Body as Starting Point: Exploring Inbodied Interaction Themes on SUNDAY,
APRIL 26 at CHI2020, Honolulu, Hawaii -
https://wellthlab.soton.ac.uk/inbodied3/
Inbodied Interaction aims to align the design of interactive technology
with an understanding of our body’s internal processes and how they
influence performance.
What would these systems look like? Imagine how we might design HCI
tools and interventions that:
- Target performance rather than prevention-only focused health and wellness
- Aim to promote continual adaptation and self-awareness through minimal
data doses instead of outsourcing to constant/pervasive data tracking
- Go beyond the simple good vs. bad dichotomy often framed around foods
/ exercises / behaviors
To design these systems, it really helps to know a few things about how
we work under the hood, as the physio-neuro-electro-chemical social
systems we are. Come to this workshop to contribute your knowledge,
build new ideas and skills, and explore this new area of HCI where we
take the body as a starting point.
Visit our website to learn more and register:

We look forward to seeing you.

Subject: [AISWorld] SAICSIT 2020 Conference - Call for papers
Date: Thu, 6 Feb 2020 09:09:22 +0200
From: Jan Kroeze <jan.kroeze(a)gmail.com>
To: aisworld <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Dear AISWorld readers
SAICSIT 2020 - CALL FOR PAPERS
‘Interfacing with Digital Africa’
www.saicsit2020.org.za
Venue: Christel House, Cape Town, South Africa
Conference dates: 14-16 September 2020
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Faculty of Informatics and Design at the Cape Peninsula University of
Technology is pleased to announce the hosting of the 2020 South African
Institute for Computer Scientists and Information Technologists (SAICSIT)
conference. It will take place from the 14th to the 16th of September at
Christel House in Ottery, Cape Town. The theme is 'Interfacing with Digital
Africa'.
With the rapid increase of technology-for-development related research,
interfacing can enable or constrain lines of communication. As such,
academic researchers in Africa enjoy an important responsibility in
directing the flows of novel research in IS and CS. Both Africanisation and
the decolonial turn point to the importance of developing knowledge from
African contexts. This can be interpreted as an extension of information
that encapsulates relevance and context for the benefit of all its
citizenry.
The development of local knowledge requires an understanding of the context
in which IS/CS solutions are to be applied by incorporating the four
dimensions of digital technology (computing, connectivity, content and
capacity). Researchers in Africa enjoy special opportunities for
interfacing with a diverse range of perspectives and realities by engaging
these four dimensions and closing related gaps in literature. Such research
may develop into unique contributions that range from developing novel
theoretical knowledge to trialling IS/CS innovations. In contrast, local
researchers might also face severe constraints that mitigate against
interfacing outside the dominant academic understanding of the Global North
or the needs of 'universal' software development and its users.
Interfacing with Digital Africa seeks to address how the work of computer
science and information technology researchers interfaces with unique
opportunities and challenges on the continent. It also aims to spotlight
the gaps and challenges for our research community’s exploration of
under-resourced settings and marginalised communities outside the defaults
of 'standard' computing and information technology environments.
The conference programme will include full paper sessions, plenary keynote
addresses, panel discussions, and workshops. The first day (Monday 14
September 2020) will be devoted to workshops, an AISSAC Seminar, and a
Postgraduate Symposium. The main conference will be held from Tuesday 15
September to Wednesday 16 September 2020. We hereby invite submissions for
empirical research papers, conceptual papers, panel proposals, workshop
proposals or postgraduate abstracts.
Topical questions to address may include:
1. What progress are software developers making in Southern Africa to
interface with African contexts and users?
2. How is computer science and information technology research responding
to African realities more broadly?
3. What are the gaps in African CS and IS research and what constraints do
these suggest?
4. How are African solutions for African problems meeting the world?
5. What are the enablers and constraints that influence interface design
for Africans?
6. How are developers catering for previously neglected communities through
custom interfaces and African language libraries?
7. How might software development for marginalised, African communities be
developed as sustainable projects?
8. Among many African IT start-ups, could any grow into high performing
technology companies like the FAANGs?
9. How is African computer science and information technology research
rebalancing 'global' understandings developed in very different settings?
10. How can transdisciplinary research contribute to understanding of IS
and CS dynamics in African contexts?
11. What are the underlying theories and philosophies of Africanisation in
the technology domain?

Subject: [AISWorld] CFP: Special Issue of Internet Research on
Interpretable AI-enabled Online Behavior Analytics (Li, Mengxiang)
Date: Thu, 6 Feb 2020 06:05:39 +0000
From: Mengxiang Li <mengxiang.li85(a)gmail.com>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Special issue call for papers from Internet Research
Guest Editors

Email: weixu(a)ruc.edu.cn
Jianshan Sun, Hefei University of Technology
Email: sunjs9413(a)hfut.edu.cn
Mengxiang Li, Hong Kong Baptist University
Email: mengxiangli(a)hkbu.edu.hk
Overview of Special Issue
In the era of big data, the proliferation of online behavior data
enables the development of profound implications for both the scholars
and practitioners alike in enhancing the effectiveness of business
operations. Online behavior data varies in forms and quantities, thus
signifying the importance of the application of advanced analytics
approach to process data and generate meaningful results.
As one of the promising advanced analytical techniques, AI-enabled
analytics with big data has gained notable attention in various fields.
However, there is still a lack of research in examining interpretable
AI-enabled data analytics in the extant literature. Thus, it is
imperative to investigate the interpretable AI-enabled online behavior
analytics because data analytics without creating an interpretable
model/value/approach are difficult to make significant contributions and
actionable implications to the field. Interpretable AI-enabled online
behavior analytics should make direct benefits (Lau et al., 2018) or
provide competitive advantages (Timoshenko and Hauser, 2019) to the
stakeholders. The call for research on interpretable AI and the related
application has also been echoed in other fields such as computer
science (Rudin, 2019), and healthcare (Jia et al., 2019).
Therefore, the aim of this special issue is to deepen and broaden the
current understanding of the embedded business value of the
interpretable AI-enable analytics with online behavior data. The focus
is on how the AI-enabled online behavior analytic methods are applied
for supporting business operations, as well as how to demonstrate the
real impact of AI-enabled online behavior analytics. We are interested
in interpretable AI-enabled online behavior analytics in various
contexts (e.g. online social media, e-commerce, and digital government),
and its main impact (e.g., users’ reactions, customers’ experience, and
government policy). All theoretical and empirical (both qualitative &
quantitative) approaches are equally appreciated, and we particularly
welcome multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary submissions that cover
different issues relevant to management, marketing, finance, and
communication.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• The benefits and challenges of interpretable AI on online behavior
analytics
• The impact of online behavior analytics on user decision making
• The impact of online behavior analytics on customers’ experience
• The impact of online behavior analytics on social governance
• The impact of online behavior analytics on business innovation
• The dark side of using interpretable AI on online behavior analytics
• The efficiency and effectiveness of interpretable AI-enabled online
behavior analytics
• The particular technologies (e.g., blockchain, big data, deep
learning) and online behavior analytics
• Business redesign through interpretable AI-enabled online behavior
analytics
• Interpretable AI-based online behavior prediction
• Interpretable AI-based online recommendation
• Multimodal-based online behavior analytics
• Social media analytics for online behavior

Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Special Issue Call
for Participation:
Technology and Social Inclusion: Building a dialectic on the role of
technology in inclusion and exclusion from societies, organizations,
economies, and academe
DEADLINE: 15 March 2021
GUEST EDITORS
Arlene Bailey, University of the West Indies
Michelle Carter, University of Alabama
Jason Thatcher, University of Alabama
Cathy Urquhart, Manchester Metropolitan University
Jaime Windeler, University of Cincinnati
CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
Social inclusion-the ability to participate fully in one's social
world-presents tremendous challenges in our increasingly digital world
and for the IS field. This special issue represents a rallying cry to
the IS community; we call for research that theorizes about social
inclusion and the critical role of information systems in enabling or
preventing individuals and social groups from participating in the
societies in which they are embedded.
For more detail on the background and topics of interest, see:
https://aisel.aisnet.org/jais/SocialInclusionSI.pdf
SUBMISSION PARAMETERS
We seek new theories and explanations for how ICT enables exclusion and
affords opportunities for inclusion. We encourage authors to frame,
theorize, and when possible, measure concepts relating to
inclusion/exclusion. Including demographic moderators in existing models
and offering "social inclusion explanations" for these differences is
not sufficient because this approach is largely atheoretical (Trauth
2013). A social inclusion lens should pervade the research--driving the
research questions, theory, model development, and explanation of
findings. We particularly emphasize the need for social inclusion
theories--imported or indigenous--that provide a strong grounding for
research studies.
We invite researchers who do not consider themselves "social inclusion
scholars" to apply a social inclusion lens to their area of expertise.
As we extend this invitation, we also offer an assurance that we
understand the difficulty of studying social inclusion and recognize the
perceived risks surrounding the topic area: fear of saying the wrong
thing, of unintentionally offending an audience or reviewer, or not
having a "right" to speak about certain topics because one does not come
from the context of study. This special issue represents the intentional
creation of space for difficult conversations with a team of open-minded
editors and reviewers equipped to mediate such conversations.
We welcome submissions from various research traditions, including
qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods, and design science research.
We will consider four types of articles:
1. Research Articles, i.e., traditional empirical scholarly work
2. Review/Theory Articles, i.e., development of new theory that may not
be empirically tested and/or synthesis of an area of research. See
JAIS's manuscript categories page for more detail:
https://aisel.aisnet.org/jais/authorinfo.html
3. Editorials/Issues and Opinions, i.e., identifying opportunities for
future work and/or critiques of current research
4. Policy Papers, i.e., frameworks based on an analysis of evidence that
offer prescriptive comments on how to create a more socially inclusive,
equitable society related to IS/IT
Please contact the editors if you are not sure whether your research
falls in the scope of the call. In the spirit of inclusion, we will
consider any submission that examines diversity and inclusion challenges
in the IS field, from any perspective, and then apply the high editorial
standards of JAIS.
