Digital Humanities are enjoying such a transformation to the point that their very boundaries and methodological foundations are being called into question. The quality and relevance of findings obtained from the thorough, human-driven analysis of a few sources, compared to unsupervised large-scale analytics on masses of data, is a fervent ongoing debate; and yet, the latter cannot prescind from a conscious effort in shaping the world to which the analyses need to relate. This has largely taken the form of knowledge modelling efforts, from which many ontologies, controlled vocabularies and conceptual models like CIDOC-CRM, the Europeana Data Model and FRBRoo have arisen. However, other fields traditionally less reliant on machine-readable data have seen the emergence of ‘ecological’ communities with an approach to the Web of Data. Recent examples include Transforming Musicology for music and musicology and Linked Pasts for history and archaeology. The WHiSe workshop series was conceived from a reflection on the extent to which the Semantic Web community is serving the needs of historians, philologists, cultural critics, musicologists and other humanists that generally: (1) cannot always rely on masses of structured data; (2) deal with vague, fragmentary, uncertain, contradictory and yet still valuable evidence that poses a challenge even to Artificial Intelligence research per se; (3) have good reason to value the systematic investigation of a few sources but intend to push the boundaries by exploring the potential of automated analytical findings on masses of content. WHiSe also probes for interest in genuinely new Semantic Web research questions inspired by processes in Digital Humanities. It addresses both aspects by promoting dialogue between humanists who employ or are contemplating semantic technologies, and Semantic Web scholars providing accounts of applied research in the Humanities. WHiSe 2020 welcomes original research contributions crossing Humanities and the Semantic Web. Scholars who have conducted research or developed impactful applications are invited to submit full papers with appropriately evaluated contributions. WHiSe also welcomes vision/position papers on novel challenges or approaches to existing problems as well as demos and preliminary results (short papers). The conference is held annually, and will be hosted 31 August - 2 September 2020 in Linköping at the Linköping University in Sweden. The conference focuses on e-Government, Open Government, eParticipation and e-Democracy, and related topics like social media, digital transformation in society, artificial intelligence, policy information, smart cities, and social innovation. Several types of submissions are possible including completed research, ongoing research, reflections & viewpoints, posters, and workshops. Part of the conference is a PhD Colloquium which offers a limited number of PhD bursaries. In particular, AI is regarded among the current top five emerging technologies when organizations execute the digital first strategy. The Gartner survey showed that 59% of organizations are gathering information to build their AI strategies, while the remainder have already made progress in piloting or adopting AI solutions (Panetta, 2018), indicating that we are facing a new era of AI, which brings both unprecedented opportunities and emerging challenges. Academically, AI has attracted some initial attention in business research with respect to its possible applications in the field of information systems (e.g., Gursoy et al., 2019), tourism and hospitality (e.g., Li et al., 2019), marketing (e.g., Syam and Sharma, 2018), and financial management (e.g., Culkin and Das, 2017), to change the interaction between organizations and customers, gain new insights and obtain greater business values (e.g., increasing efficiency and effectiveness). Regardless of the numerous opportunities that AI offers, there are undoubtedly plentiful dark sides of AI that present enormous risks for individuals, organizations and society, which are considered as three most important dimensions for digitalization (Alt, 2018). From an individual perspective, the issues of AI discrimination have been reported by consumers in content recommendation and product recommendation in electronic markets. From an organizational perspective, the introduction of AI based technologies is likely to influence the profitability of companies, but in electronic markets the negative side of high-frequency trading has also been reported on. Organizations also face significant issues where the lack of a strategy relating to implications of AI could affect critical business areas and fail to address concerns from human workforce. From a societal perspective, AI could potentially widen the gap amongst emerging and developed markets as well as the rich and poor. The issue of potential job losses due to AI technologies has also received widespread attention. Therefore, considering the ubiquitous use of AI in digital business today, the significant negative or detrimental consequences of AI to individuals, organizations and society remain to be examined and are worthy of further research attention. We thus organize this special issue and encourage the potential authors to address this important but so far largely neglected topic – the dark sides of AI in the electronic markets contexts, including social networks, electronic commerce, digital platforms, customer relationship management, etc. *Central issues and themes* The goal of this special issue is to create a platform to address the “dark sides of AI” in digital networked business. Submissions adopting qualitative or quantitative research approaches, and from individual, organizational, and/or societal perspective are welcome. It's under the "Cognitive Research in IS" track. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning is occurring in a wide range of solutions and applications. While algorithms are necessary for the development of an artificially intelligent system, they are not sufficient. Understanding human interaction with the system is the key to develop an AI system that looks and behaves like humans. There is an enormous potential for information systems researchers to contribute to this emerging field.
