In alignment with the Digital Disruption theme of AMCIS 2018, we are pleased to invite submission of completed research papers and research-in-progress papers for this mini-track. This mini-track is under the Virtual Communities and Collaboration track (http://amcis2018.aisnet.org/?page_id=111#toggle-id-29).
MINITRACK DESCRIPTION:
Virtual communities enabled by social media are providing new opportunities for people to engage with each other. Such engagements span across personal, political, social, or economic spheres. Recently, such engagements have been exploited to spread fake news, rumors, biased reporting, or for promoting unsupported viewpoints. Some other unintended effects include cyberbullying, suppression of alternate viewpoints, or promotion of narratives disconnected from facts. These reflect unintended consequences of engagement in virtual communities that have the potential to significantly influence the discourse of social, political, moral, or economic debate. It cannot be denied that virtual communities hold a lot of potential for beneficial and positive engagement among the community members but there is a need to examine some of these unintended consequences prevalent in virtual communities. The objective of this mini-track is to provide a forum for discussion and presentation of original r
esearch highlighting some of these unintended consequences and subsequent challenges/or solutions to deal with them. We seek papers that address nature of unintended consequence of engagements in virtual communities from a theoretical, conceptual, or empirical perspective. Both quantitative and qualitative studies are welcome.
Generally, topics of interest are those that model and analyze the impacts, spread and drivers of unintended consequences, which include, but are not limited to:
* Models analyzing spread of fake news in virtual communities
* Models identifying rumors/ fake news
* Impact of rumors/fake news on participation in virtual communities
* Drivers of rumors/fake news in virtual communities
* Harassment, intimidation and stalking

conference proceedings will be archived in the ACM digital library like all
prior editions.
Submission Information and Instructions
---------------------------------------
Topics: The conference provides peer-reviewed research tracks on subjects
related to open collaboration including:
- Open Collaboration Research, esp. Wikis and Social Media
- Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS)
- Open Data, Open Access, and Open Science
- Open Education
- IT-Driven Open Innovation
- Open Policy/Open Government/Open Law
- Wikipedia and Wikimedia Research
Paper Presentation: OpenSym 2018 will be organized as a one track conference
in order to emphasize the interdisciplinary character of this conference and
to encourage discussion.
Submission Deadline: The research paper submission deadline is March 15th
2018. Submitted papers should present integrative reviews or original reports
of substantive new work: theoretical, empirical, and/or in the design,
development and/or deployment of novel concepts, systems, and mechanisms.
Research papers will be reviewed to meet rigorous academic standards of
publication. Papers will be reviewed for relevance, conceptual quality,
innovation and clarity of presentation.
All the submissions are done via the EasyChair platform, here:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=opensym2018
Paper Length: There is no minimum or maximum length for submitted papers.
Rather, reviewers will be instructed to weigh the contribution of a paper
relative to its length. Papers should report research thoroughly but
succinctly: brevity is a virtue. A typical length of a “long research paper”
is 10 pages (formerly the maximum length limit and the limit on OpenSym
tracks), but may be shorter if the contribution can be described and supported
in fewer pages—shorter, more focused papers (called “short research papers”
previously) are encouraged and will be reviewed like any other paper. While we
will review papers longer than 10 pages, the contribution must warrant the
extra length. Reviewers will be instructed to reject papers whose length is
incommensurate with the size of their contribution. Papers should be formatted
in ACM SIGCHI paper format. Reviewing is not double-blind so manuscripts do
not need to be anonymized.
Posters: As in previous years, OpenSym will also be hosting a poster session
at the conference. To propose a poster, authors should submit an extended
abstract (not more than 4 pages) describing the content of the poster which
will be published in a non-archival companion proceedings to the conference.
Posters should use the ACM SIGCHI templates for extended abstracts. An example
of a poster abstract can be found here. Reviewing is not double-blind so
abstracts do not need to be anonymized.
Paper Proceedings: OpenSym is held in-cooperation with ACM SIGWEB and ACM
SIGSOFT and the conference proceedings will be archived in the ACM digital
library like all prior editions. OpenSym seeks to accommodate the needs of the
different research disciplines it draws on including disciplines with archival
conference proceedings and disciplines where authors usually present at
conferences and publish later. Authors, whose submitted papers have been
accepted for presentation at the conference have a choice of:
having their paper become part of the official proceedings, archived in the
ACM Digital Library, having their paper published in the conference website
only, with no transfer of copyright from the authors, having no publication
record at all but only the presentation at the conference.
Response from authors: For the second time at OpenSym, authors will be given
the opportunity to write a response to their reviews before final decisions
are made. This should be treated as an opportunity to correct any mistakes or
misconceptions in the reviews as well as to propose minor changes that the
authors can make during the two weeks between notification and the
camera-ready deadline.
Important Dates
---------------
- Submission deadline: March 15, 2018
- Reviews sent to authors: May 11, 2018
- Response to reviews from authors due: May 20, 2018
- Final decision notification: June 15, 2018

Betreff: [AISWorld] CFP: JMIS Special Issue on Immersive Systems (Jan
30, 2018)
Datum: Wed, 17 Jan 2018 17:29:46 +0000
Von: Dennis, Alan R. <ardennis(a)indiana.edu>
An: 'aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org' <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Journal of Management Information Systems<http://journals1.scholarsportal.info.proxy.queensu.ca/browse/07421222/v33i0…>
Special Issue on Immersive Systems
Due Date: January 30, 2018
Immersive systems purposefully change or enhance the user's perception of reality. They include such categories as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (VR/AR), gamification, and serious games. For example, the recent introduction of inexpensive consumer-grade VR headsets from a variety of manufacturers has generated new interest as a way for companies to enhance existing systems and create new opportunities to engage employees and customers [e.g., 1, 4, 9, 10]. Gamification is the addition of game design elements to non-game systems, which might encompass the addition of: game mechanics (e.g., points), dynamics (e.g., challenging interactions), aesthetics (e.g., video), or narratives (e.g., fantasy) to work-related systems [e.g., 2. 7, 8]. Serious games are digital games that aim to leverage the engaging and entertaining aspect of interactive games to achieve at least one work-related goal other than entertainment [e.g., 3. 5, 6].
We call for research on business-related immersive systems - that is, the addition of immersive elements to information systems that support organizational goals. Such systems may be internally-focused (e.g., systems that support employees in their work) or externally-focused (e.g., systems that engage consumers to generate new product ideas or solve problems). In either case, the systems are instrumental, but with immersive elements added. We encourage authors to not only discuss how previous research is related to immersive systems but to describe, develop, and study the distinctive nature of the phenomena that can bring new ideas and concepts to the IS discipline.
We seek a wide range of research in content, perspectives, methods, and stakeholders affected. For example, research on immersive systems could bring together existing behavioral, design science, and economics theories to help develop cumulative knowledge in this novel area. These sorts of explorations could trigger significant breakthroughs in our understanding of IS development, adoption, use, and impacts. This research could also develop theories and frameworks that will be of great interest to those outside of the IS discipline. This research would be relevant to subject matter experts, such as marketers and managers who wish to effectively create, understand, and use immersive systems. Thus, we encourage intra- and inter-disciplinary research on immersive systems.
Example topics for the special issue include, but are not limited to:
· Immersive elements in internally- or externally-focused information systems
· Application of game design theories and techniques to IS development
· Development, adoption and use of immersive platforms
· Outcomes of immersive systems for organizations, groups, and individuals
· Immersive systems in ERP, CRM, big data, or other large-scale systems
· Gamification of user-generated content and crowdsourcing applications
· Methodologies for immersive system design
· Immersive business practices
· New business models enabled through immersive systems
· New theories around immersive systems
· The unintended consequences of immersive systems.
We welcome research using a variety of methodologies, and at any level of analysis, such as:
· High quality qualitative or quantitative research of all kinds
· Research proposing and evaluating innovative artifacts (i.e., design science research)
· Comprehensive theory development papers
· Meta-analyses, thematic syntheses, and other types of theory and review papers.
