CALL FOR PAPERS
51th Annual Hawai'i International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-51)
January 3-6, 2018 (Wednesday-Saturday)
Hilton Waikoloa Village (http://www.hiltonwaikoloavillage.com)
Minitrack: Creation and Appropriation of Knowledge Systems
(http://hicss.hawaii.edu/tracks-51/knowledge-innovation-and-entrepreneurial-…)
Part of the Track: Knowledge Innovation and Entrepreneurial Systems
Minitrack description:
The objective of this minitrack is to contribute to the body of knowledge that helps scholars and practitioners increase their collective understanding of
1. how knowledge systems are planned, designed, constructed, implemented, used, evaluated, supported, upgraded, and evolved;
2. how knowledge systems impact the context in which they are embedded; and
3. the human behaviors reflected within and induced through both (1) and (2) (adapted from Benbasat and Zmud 2003).
By knowledge system, we mean a system in which human participants and/or machines perform work (processes and activities) related to the creation, retention, transfer and/or application of knowledge using information, technology, and other resources to produce informational products and/or services for internal or external customers (adapted from Alter 2008). Such systems may include, but are not limited to, knowledge management systems, decision systems, social media, expert systems, machine learning systems, and other AI systems as well as any other IT-enabled knowledge management processes.
We welcome both design science and design theory research in knowledge systems as well as behavioral research related to the appropriation of knowledge systems in order to span the entire lifecycle of knowledge systems.
Topics relevant for submissions include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Theoretical models, methodologies, tools as well as technological and managerial practices for planning, designing, constructing, implementing, using, evaluating, supporting and upgrading knowledge systems
* Case studies focusing on the implementation of knowledge processes and technologies (e.g., virtual reality, social media, expert systems, data analytics, AI, machine learning, e-learning)
* Systems design for social knowledge creation and use (e.g. social media system architectures)
* Development of frameworks for classifying knowledge systems
* Incorporating and/or integrating knowledge services and mashups, social media, Web 2.0, cloud computing, and/or ubiquitous technologies in knowledge systems
* Appropriation and use of social media upon individual users, groups, businesses, and governments for knowledge management
* Changing organizational cultures and structures through knowledge systems
* Design, evaluation, and/or use of processes, semantic technologies, knowledge retrieval and representation methods, and/or systems to map, track and/or visualize social networks and/or work systems in order to facilitate knowledge creation and sharing and quick problem solving (e.g., when unexpected coordination breakdowns emerge)
* Risks and challenges of knowledge systems for knowledge practices (e.g. information overload, technostress, and protection of information assets)
* Design processes, representations, and/or kernel (reference) theories for co-designing and/or co-evolving work and knowledge systems
* Human computer interaction in a knowledge system context
* Issues in, limitations of and barriers to tacit knowledge management
* Human behaviors reflected within human-machine structuration phenomena

MINITRACK: Knowledge Management and Information Security Minitrack
The purpose of this Minitrack is to focus on research on the intersection
of knowledge management and organizational or individual security.
Specifically, we have heard and read many times in the last several decades that
the most important asset of an organization is the knowledge of its
employees. While this knowledge can be a target of sophisticated cyber-attacks or
fraud, most likely the leaking of knowledge can happen because of careless
organizational practices, asset misuse, or behavior of employees.
Organizations put in place many technology-based security measures (firewalls,
filtering systems) to guard against attacks, yet it is not that easy to guard
against the human-side of security practices. An organization can have the best
security technology in place, yet a careless employee talking or emailing
or posting on Facebook about the ‘new development’ at the company bypasses
all this security technology with ease.
Furthermore, one can find lot of information about current projects done
by a company by searching the web. How can an organization effectively
protect its intellectual property remains an unanswered question. What type of
security and intelligence techniques are out that that can protect the
intellectual property? What are the best ways to train employees so that they
would spot potentially criminal activity, such as fraud, among employees?
Could crowdsourcing be used in this case, meaning asking employees to vote on
a particular issue to determine whether it represents a potential threat?
Could implementation of KMS potentially cause legal problems because some KM
artifacts could be uncovered during discovery and used as evidence against
a company?
· This minitrack seeks papers that investigate issues related to
security and protection of intellectual assets and explore how organizations
can use security measures to protect their KM practices. Possible topics
include, but are not limited to:
* Securing intellectual assets;
* Filtering messages regarding current business practices on social
media (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn)
* Legal concerns when implementing KMS;
* Techniques used to scan employee communication channels (e.g.,
email, Facebook, text messages);
* Security strategies within and outside the company boundaries;
* Training employees on potential threats to security breaches;
* Preventative measures to secure KM assets;
* Knowledge loss risk management;
* Impact of immigration and cultural issues on potential KM security
breach;
* Using KM security to mitigate impacts of retirement and worker
transience;
* Measuring risk of knowledge loss due to security breach;
* Security models and architectures for knowledge systems;
* Modeling risk in knowledge systems;
* Tradeoffs in knowledge systems between security and knowledge
sharing;
* Technologies for knowledge system security.

CALL FOR PAPERS
ODBASE 2017 - The 16th International Conference on Ontologies, DataBases,
and Applications of Semantics
24-25 October 2017, Rhodes, Greece
http://www.otmconferences.org/index.php/conferences/odbase-2017
The conference on Ontologies, DataBases, and Applications of Semantics for
Large Scale Information Systems (ODBASE'17) provides a forum on the use of
ontologies, rules and data semantics in novel applications. Of particular
relevance to ODBASE are papers that bridge traditional boundaries between
disciplines such as artificial intelligence and Semantic Web, databases,
data analytics and machine learning, social networks, distributed and mobile
systems, information retrieval, knowledge discovery, and computational
linguistics.
This year, we emphasis the special topics of smart data analytics, Corporate
Semantic Web, and Pragmatic Web. The Corporate Semantic Web focuses on the
application of semantic methods and technologies in corporate environments
and enterprise information systems. The Pragmatic Web consists of the tools,
practices and theories describing why and how people use information. In
contrast to the Syntactic Web and Semantic Web the Pragmatic Web is not only
about form or meaning of information, but also about interaction which
brings about e.g. understanding or commitments. Under the Pragmatic Web
label we subsume both the pragmatics of ontologies (e.g. ontology
development in communities) and the ontology of pragmatics (e.g. semantics
of communicative action and context). Pragmatic Web technologies include
e.g., distributed ontology- and rule-based systems, tools for knowledge
interchange and social interaction, semantic agent technologies with
communication (e.g. speech acts), coordination, and negotiation protocols.
We also encourage the submission of research and practical experience papers
concerning software (e.g. scalability) and knowledge engineering issues in
semantic ontology and rule management, information/knowledge integration,
and extraction, as well as papers that examine the information and knowledge
needs of various applications.
ODBASE'17 intends to draw a highly diverse body of researchers and
practitioners by being part of the Federated conferences Event "On the Move
to Meaningful Internet Systems 2017 (OnTheMove'17)" that co-locates three
conferences: ODBASE'17, C&TC'17 (International Symposium on Secure Virtual
Infrastructures), and CoopIS'17 (International Conference on Cooperative
Information Systems).
ODBASE 2017 will consider two categories of papers: research and experience.
Research papers must contain novel, unpublished research results. Experience
papers must describe performance or usability of existing real-world
systems, empirical studies, business / industry cases with (proven)
solutions / systems for applied technological challenges, and concrete
results demonstrating real-world importance and impact; preference will be
given to papers that describe software products or systems that are in use
in the community and/or the industry.

Grand Challenges in Modeling (GRAND)
This workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners interested
in the future of model-driven engineering. A lot has been achieved, but big
challenges remain. The purpose of this workshop is to help identify these
challenges and a research roadmap for model-driven engineering over the next
years.
Projects Showcase
The Projects Showcase event at STAF 2017 provides an opportunity for researchers
and practitioners (from both academia and industry) involved in upcoming, ongoing
or completed research projects related to foundations and applications of software
technologies to share results, experiences, ideas, on-going work, and knowledge
that can lead to fruitful inter-project collaboration.
The Projects Showcase welcomes contributions disseminating the objectives and
results of national and international research projects, including outcomes of
specific deliverables, advances beyond the state of the art, overall innovation
potential, exploitation approach and (expected) impact, marketing value, barriers
and obstacles.
4th International Workshop on Model-driven Robot Software Engineering (MORSE)
Robots are an indispensable part of modern production facilities. In the future,
robots will also become more common in daily life. Currently, however, there is a
lack of standardization w. r. t. hardware/software platforms for robots, leading to
a vast landscape of isolated, incompatible, task-specific and, thus, non-reusable
solutions. Consequently, there is a need for new engineering methodologies for the
design, implementation and execution of software for robotic platforms. MORSE
provides a venue for discussing new ideas on the application of model-driven
engineering to robotics.
5th International Workshop on Scalable Model Driven Engineering (BigMDE)
As Model Driven Engineering (MDE) is increasingly applied to larger and more complex
systems, the current generation of modelling and model management technologies are
being pushed to their limits in terms of capacity and efficiency. As such, additional
research and development is imperative in order to enable MDE to remain relevant with
industrial practice and to continue delivering its widely-recognised productivity,
quality, and maintainability benefits. The aim of this workshop is to provide a
venue where developers and users of modelling and model management languages and
tools can present problems and solutions around the scalability of MDE.
6th International Workshop on Verification and Validation Of modeL Transformations (VOLT)
This workshop offers researchers a dedicated forum to classify, discuss,
propose, and advance verification and validation techniques dedicated to
model transformations. VOLT 2017 promotes discussions between theoreticians
and practitioners from academy and industry. A significant part of the workshop
includes a forum for discussing practical applications of model transformations
and related problems. One of the goals of the forum is to collect enough
industrial case studies so that those problems can be stated at a theoretical
level.
8th International Workshop on Graph Computation Models (GCM)
Graphs are common mathematical structures which are visual and intuitive. They
constitute a natural and seamless way for system modeling in science, engineering
and beyond, including computer science, life sciences, business processes, etc.
Graph computation models constitute a class of very high-level models where graphs
are first-class citizens. Their mathematical foundation, in addition to their visual
nature, facilitates specification, validation and analysis of complex systems. The
aim of GCM 2017 is to bring together researchers interested in all aspects of
computation models based on graphs and graph transformation techniques. The workshop
promotes the cross-fertilizing exchange of ideas and experiences among researchers
and students from the different communities interested in the foundations,
applications, and implementations of graph computation models and related areas.
17th International Workshop in OCL and Textual Modeling (OCL)
Modeling started out with UML and its precursors as a graphical notation. Such
visual representations enable direct intuitive capturing of reality, but they have
weaknesses: for example, detailed visual representations bear the risk of becoming
overcrowded faster than textual models and some of the visual features lack the
level of precision required to create complete and unambiguous specifications.
These weaknesses of graphical notations encouraged the development of text-based
modeling languages that either integrate with or replace graphical notations for
modeling. The goal of this workshop is to create a forum where researchers and
practitioners interested in building models using OCL or other kinds of textual
languages can directly interact, report advances, share results, identify tools
for language development, and discuss appropriate standards.
10th Transformation Tool Contest (TTC)
Transformations of structured data such as relational data, abstract syntax trees
and high-level graph-based models are cross-disciplinary at the heart of a wide
range of applications. The success of transformation approaches heavily depends
on the availability of expressive and efficient tools. Currently, a large variety of
tools exist for different transformation approaches. However, for potential users,
working in application domains where transformation techniques may be useful, it is
difficult to select the right tool for their purpose. Moreover, even for most of the
tool experts it is true that they know about one or two tools but little about others.
Finally, the tool developers themselves can also be inspired by a more detailed
understanding of related approaches.
