**Motivation**
Modern enterprises face a strong pressure to increase agility and
competitiveness, to operate on the global market, and to engage in
manifold alliances. However, many strategic initiatives in enterprises
fail, meaning that enterprises are unable to gain success from their
strategy. One of the identified reasons for such failures is the lack
of coherence and consistency among the various components of an
enterprise. At the same time, the need to operate as a unified and
integrated whole is becoming increasingly important. Currently, these
challenges are dominantly addressed from a functional or managerial
perspective, as advocated by the management and organization sciences,
and as implemented by traditional programs in business schools. Such
knowledge is indeed necessary for managing an enterprise, but it is
insufficient for bringing about changes in a fully systematic and
integrated way. To do that, one needs to take a constructional or
engineering perspective.
In addition, both organizations and software applications are complex
systems, prone to entropy. This means that in the course of time, the
costs of bringing about similar changes increase in a way that is known
as combinatorial explosion. Entropy can be reduced and managed
effectively through modular design based on atomic elements.
Lastly, the individual persons in an enterprise, in cooperation, are
ultimately responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the
enterprise. They are also collectively responsible for the evolution of
the enterprise, in order to meet new challenges. We believe these
responsibilities can be borne in a much more effective way if members
have an appropriate knowledge and an effective awareness of the
enterprise given by a sound engineering approach put forward by a
full-fledged scientific discipline.
**Mission**
The CIAO! Enterprise Engineering Network (CEEN) is a community of
academics and practitioners who strive to contribute to the development
of the discipline of Enterprise Engineering (EE), and to apply it in
practice. The aim is to develop a holistic and general systems theory
based understanding on how to (re)design and run enterprises
effectively.
The ambition is to develop a consistent and coherent set of theories,
models and associated methods that: enable enterprises to reflect, in a
systematic way, on how to realize improvements; and assist them, in
practice, in achieving their aspirations.
In doing so, sound empirical and scientific foundations should underlie
all efforts and all organisational aspects that are relevant should be
considered, while combining already existing knowledge from the
scientific fields of information systems, software engineering,
management, as well as philosophy, semiotics and sociology, among
others.
In other words, the (re)design of an enterprise and the subsequent
implementation of changes should be the consequence of rationalised
decisions that: take in account the nature and reality of the
enterprise and its environment; and respect relevant empirical and
scientific principles.
Enterprises are taken to be systems whose reality has a dual nature by
being simultaneously, on one hand, centrally and purposefully
(re)designed; and, on the other hand, emergent in a distributed way,
given the fact that, its main agents, the humans that are the ‘pearls’
of the organization, act with free will, in a creative and in a
responsible (or sometimes not) way.
We acknowledge that, in practice, the development of enterprises is not
always a purely rational/evidence-based process. As such, we believe
the field of EE aims to provide evidence-based insights into the design
and evolution of enterprises and the consequences of different choices
irrespective of the way decisions are made.
The origin of the scientific foundations of our present body of
knowledge is the CIAO! Paradigm (Communication, Information, Action,
Organisation) as expressed in the Enterprise
Engineering Manifesto
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?id=YU0CBRoGAx1SDQ>
and the paper: The
Discipline of Enterprise Engineering
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?id=YU0LAxoGAx1SDQ>
. In this paradigm,
organisation is considered to emerge in human communication, through
the intermediate roles of information and action. Based on the CIAO!
Paradigm, several theories have been developed, and still are being
proposed. They are published as technical reports
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?id=YU0LABoGAx1SDQ>
.
The CEEN welcomes proposals of improvements to our current body of
knowledge, as well as the inclusion of compliant and alternative views,
always keeping in mind the need to maintain global systemic coherence,
consistency and scientific rigour of the entire EE body of knowledge,
as a prerequisite for the consolidation of this new engineering
discipline. Yearly events
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?id=YU0LARoGAx1SDQ>
like the Enterprise Engineering Working Conference and associated
Doctoral Consortium are organized to promote the presentation of EE
research and application in practice, as well as discussions on the
contents and current state of our body of theories and methods.

Betreff: [AISWorld] Call for book chapters: Managing the Web of Things:
Linking the Real World to the Web (Morgan Kaufmann)

CALL FOR BOOK CHAPTERS
http://yongruiqin.org/wotbook/
Managing the Web of Things: Linking the Real World to the Web
Morgan Kaufmann, Elsevier
Over the years, the World Wide Web has gone through many
transformations, from traditional linking and sharing of computers and
documents (i.e., "Web of Data"), to the current connection of people
(i.e., "Web of People"), and to the emerging connection of billions of
physical objects (i.e., "Web of Things"). WoT aims to connect everyday
objects, such as coats, shoes, watches, ovens, washing machines, bikes,
cars, even humans, plants, animals, and changing environments, to the
Internet to enable communication/interactions between these objects. The
ultimate goal of WoT is to enable computers to see, hear and sense the
real world. It is predicted by Ericsson that the number of
Internet-connected things will reach 50 billion by 2020. Electronic
devices and systems exist around us providing different services to the
people in different situations: at home, at work, in their office, or
driving a car on the street. Web of Things (WoT) also enables the close
relationship between human and opportunistic connection of smart things.
To realize the goals of WoT and to fully exploit its potentials,
building and managing the Web of Things at a global scale has created
numerous challenges, as well as tremendous opportunities, to many
stakeholders, including research institutions, companies, governments,
international organizations, and so on. There is an urgent need to
capture related technology trends, so as to guide and help all these
stakeholders to actively contribute to the promising future of WoT.
WoT provides an Application Layer that simplifies the creation of the
Internet of Things (IoT) applications. In other words, WoT aims to
enable real-world objects to be part of the World Wide Web, other than
focusing on connecting them together at a global scale. This makes WoT
different from IoT. Therefore, a more consolidated and holistic coverage
of engineering, management and analytics that advances the fundamental
understanding of the Web of Things building blocks in terms of concepts,
models, languages, productivity support techniques, and tools is
required. This is necessary to enable effective exploration,
understanding, assessing, comparing, and selecting WoT models,
languages, techniques, platforms, and tools.
In addition, there is a scarcity of texts on how to manage large-scale
of things over the Web. The book is intended to compile the newest
developments and advances in the area of WoT. It will offer a
comprehensive and systematic presentation of methodologies, technologies
and applications that enable efficient and effective management of
things over the Web, thereby helping academic researchers,
practitioners, graduate students, and governments unveil the potentials
of WoT.
***Features and Benefits:
This book will focus on the most recent developments in the field of the
Web of Things. The covered new advances will range from modelling,
searching, data analytics, to software building, applications and social
impact. Hence, this book will provide a comprehensive view of the latest
developments and trends in this nascent area.
From the book, the reader will be able to gain up-to-date knowledge and
experience on how to manage things over the Web. This can help them
accelerate their research on the Web of Things (for researchers), gain
immediate experiences on building the Web of Things systems (for
practitioners), and support policy and decision making (for companies
and governments).
In summary, the three main benefits of the book include:
1. This book will review the current trends of the Web of Things and
provide an in-depth analysis on the state-of-the-art Web of Things
modelling and searching technologies. The technologies on how to
collect, clean, and analyze data generated by the Web of Things will
also be covered. Thus, the book can represent a good reference that
summarizes latest developments and technologies in the Web of Things.
2. This book will cover system design and software building principles
for the Web of Things. Experiences and methods for system design and
software building will also be covered. Thus, this book will be a timely
guide to implementing the Web of Things systems.
3. This book will cover real-world applications and provide discussions
and explorations of social impact for the Web of Things. These
applications and explorations will be attractive to a wide variety of
readers from practitioners and policy makers in both companies and
governments.
***Target Audience:
The book is intended for researchers and postgraduate students
interested in the areas of the Web of Things and related computational
technologies for the purpose of integrating the Web of Things approach
into the real world. Academic researchers, research students,
communications and network engineers, solution architects, system
integrators, system managers, policy makers in government agencies are
main targeted audience.

Leadership Social Power as a Component of KMS Success
Vincent Scovetta (Long Island University, Brookville, NY, USA), Timothy J.
Ellis (Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA)
This study investigated the relationships between a leader's of Leadership
Social Power (LSP) profile and Knowledge Management Systems (KMS).
Previous research has established that KMS success is positively impacted by
leadership commitment to KMS, knowledge quality, and knowledge use. Yet how
little we know about the constructs of leadership that may impact KM. The goals
of this research focused on discovering how the manner in which leaders
exert power – their LSP profile – influenced each of these KM success
factors. This research was able to empirically demonstrate that LSP is a factor
of that success and was able to effectively predict Leadership Commitment to
KMS, Knowledge Content Quality, and Knowledge Use based upon predominate
manner of Leadership Social Power used by the KM leaders.

The Knowledge-as-Object Metaphor: A Case of Semantic Pathology
David Hinds (H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business & Entrepreneurship, Nova
Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA), Arvind Gudi (H. Wayne
Huizenga School of Business & Entrepreneurship, Nova Southeastern
University, Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA)
It is argued that a “knowledge-as-object” metaphor is predominant within
knowledge management discourse and that this metaphor underlies our
conceptualization of knowledge in both an external sense and an internal sense.
This dual application of the word “knowledge” within the common context of
knowledge management represents a semantic pathology, a condition which
leads to confused thinking and dysfunctional problem solving. The pathology has
had profound effects on our understanding of knowledge management problems
and the nature of the solutions that are offered. A more balanced and
unbiased approach will require that both researchers and practitioners exhibit
a greater awareness of the knowledge-as-object metaphor and that they fully
appreciate the pervasiveness and power of the associated semantic
pathology.

Individual Level Knowledge Transfer in Virtual Settings: A Review and
Synthesis
Zeying Wan (Sobey School of Business, Saint Mary's University, Halifax,
Nova Scotia, Canada), Nicole Haggerty (Richard Ivey School of Business, The
University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada), Yinglei Wang (Fred
C. Manning School of Business, Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia,
Canada)
Since the emergence of the knowledge-based view of the firm in the
mid-1990, researchers have made considerable effort to untangle the complexity of
how individuals create, capture and realize value from knowledge. To date,
this burgeoning field has offered rich and yet diverse insights involving
contextual, process and outcome factors that influence individual level
knowledge transfer. Concomitantly globalization and advancing technologies have
extended virtual work arrangements such as virtual teams and virtual
communities on the internet and considerably extended the knowledge base upon
which individuals can draw when creating, acquiring, sharing and integrating
knowledge. Research on individual level knowledge transfer has also
embraced these virtual environments spawning new insights. Hence the objective of
this paper is to assess current state of research and identify potential
avenues for future research at the intersection of these two dimensions. The
authors focus specifically on knowledge transfer research at the individual
level instead of the team or firm level and within virtual settings.
Applying a process view of knowledge transfer, they synthesize existing findings
and discuss issues surrounding the inputs, processes, and outputs. The
synthesis reveals both strengths and gaps in the literature. Accordingly, the
authors offer directions for future research that may address the gaps and
contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of individual level
knowledge transfer in virtual settings.

CALL FOR CHAPTER PROPOSALS
Proposal Submission Deadline: February 28, 2016
The Internet of Things in the Modern Business Environment
A book edited by In Lee
To be published by IGI Global:
Introduction
The Internet of Things (IoT), also called the Internet of Everything or the Industrial Internet, is a new technology paradigm envisioned as a global network of machines and devices capable of interacting with each other. The true value of the IoT for firms can be fully realized when connected devices are able to communicate with each other and integrate with enterprise systems, cloud computing, and business analytics. The adoption of this technology is rapidly gaining momentum as technological, societal, and competitive pressures push firms to innovate and transform themselves. Because of the potential yet uncertain benefits and high investment costs of the IoT, firms need to carefully assess every IoT-induced opportunity and challenge to ensure that their resources are spent judiciously. However, there is still a paucity of studies on the social, behavioral, economic, and managerial aspects of the IoT. This makes it very challenging for firms to make informed decisions on IoT adoption and development.
The book, The Internet of Things in the Modern Business Environment, will seek chapters that address different aspects of the IoT applications within business settings, ranging from monitoring, information sharing, collaboration, data analytics, and related topics. Additionally, this book will explore the impact of the IoT on business operations, business models, and competitiveness, and address managerial challenges that firms have faced.
Objective of the Book
This comprehensive and timely publication aims to be an essential reference source, building on the available literature in the field of the IoT for businesses, while providing further research opportunities in this dynamic field. It is hoped that this book will provide professors, researchers, students, and professionals with cutting-edge IoT research models and management techniques integrated with a solid grounding in management theories and practices.
Target Audience
Researchers, professors, managers, and college students in various programs will find this book useful in furthering their exposure to pertinent topics in the IoT within business settings and undertaking their own research and management efforts in this field.
Recommended topics include, but are not limited to the following:
Contributors are welcome to submit chapters on the following topics relating to the IoT adoption, usage, and management within business settings:
- Business Value of the IoT

*Overview*
-----------------------------------------------------------
Open access to digital educational resources and tools (typically
referred to as Open Educational Resources - OERs) and/or online courses
(typically referred to as Massive Open Online Courses - MOOCs) has
attracted significant attention worldwide from the different key
stakeholders in Education and Training. Despite the fact that the open
access movement in Education has the potential to lead a disruptive
Social Innovation in teaching and learning (including assessing of
learning as well as accreditation of competences and qualifications),
concerns are expressed that it could also lead to deepen the digital
divide between regions, states and continents.
Ideally, unfolding the full potential of opening up education,
anticipates not only the affordable availability and maintenance of
efficient digital infrastructures, but mainly networks of people and
professionals (representing the various existing key stakeholders in
education, but also new ones emerged as a result of the transformations
happening outside the formal educational settings) who are actively
engaged in leading and supporting sustainable changes.
Digital technologies are the key enabler for the anticipated social
innovations in education and learning through the open access movement.
Furthermore, new challenges for governments, educational institutes,
non-profit organizations, the private sector, the unions of
professionals in education and training, as well as, individual
professionals and citizens, are shaped and fostering the scientific
dialogue of different perspectives can contribute to the advancement of
the public discourse in these pressing issues. This is the scope of
this special issue on “the social innovation capacity of open education
and learning”.
-----------------------------------------------------------
*Topics of Interests*
-----------------------------------------------------------
Considering all the above, this special issue welcome contributions
describing working hypothesis and case studies focused at least one of
the following topics:
• Strategies and policies for open access in education and training to
contents, courses, curricula, competences, tools and physical spaces
• Strategies and policies for social capital generation to support open
education and learning
• Sharing strategies and practices in education and learning
• Open learning eco-systems and tools that support social innovation in

previously published.
Short papers are 3-5 pages long, ACM double column. Short papers
should present new and substantial theoretical, empirical,
methodological, or policy-oriented contributions to research and/or
practice. Short papers should include an abstract, an introductory
paragraph and about 20 references. Short papers should be original
work that has not been previously published.
Extended abstracts are ~ 2 pages long, ACM double column. Extended
abstracts present new research of broad significance for the WebSci
community. Extended abstracts include about 10 references.
Full and short papers could be assigned to any of the three
presentation modes—long talk, short talk and poster. Extended
abstracts will be assigned to the poster sessions. The final mode of
presentation will be determined by qualities of the paper like
maturity of research, strength of argument, interdisciplinary approach
and impetus to spur further work. Senior chairs may decide to
recommend extended abstracts of particular relevance to short talks.
All types of accepted submissions will be included in the proceedings,
which will be archived by the Association for Computing Machinery
Digital Library. However, to accommodate publication habits of
different scientific communities, we allow authors to opt out of
having their contribution appear in the proceedings.
We will organize a special issue of The Journal of Web
Science. Authors of selected full and short papers and extended
abstracts will be contacted and invited to submit a full-length
journal paper for the special issue. All the papers invited to this
submission will go through a peer-review process before receiving
final approval.

AiML-2016: 1ST CALL FOR PAPERS
11TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADVANCES IN MODAL LOGIC
BUDAPEST, 29 AUGUST -- 2 SEPTEMBER 2016
http://phil.elte.hu/aiml2016/
Advances in Modal Logic is an initiative aimed at presenting
the state of the art in modal logic and its various applications. The
initiative consists of a conference series together with volumes based
on the conferences. Information about the AiML series can be obtained
at http://www.aiml.net. AiML-2016 is the 11th conference in the series.
TOPICS
We invite submission on all aspects of modal logic, including:
- history of modal logic
- philosophy of modal logic
- applications of modal logic
- computational aspects of modal logic (complexity and decidability of
modal and temporal logics, modal and temporal logic programming,
model checking, model generation, theorem proving for modal logics)
- theoretical aspects of modal logic (algebraic/categorical perspectives
on modal logic, coalgebraic modal logic, completeness and canonicity,
correspondence and duality theory, many-dimensional modal logics,
modal fixed point logics, model theory of modal logic, proof theory
of modal logic)
- specific instances and variations of modal logic (description logics,
modal logics over non-boolean bases, dynamic logics and other process
logics, epistemic and deontic logics, modal logics for agent-based
systems, modal logic and game theory, modal logic and grammar
formalisms, provability and interpretability logics, spatial and
temporal logics, hybrid logic, intuitionistic logic, substructural
logics, computationally light fragments of all such logics)
Papers on related subjects will also be considered.
PAPER SUBMISSIONS
There will be two types of submissions to AiML-2016:
(1) Full papers for publication in the proceedings and presentation at the
conference.
(2) Short presentations intended for presentation at the conference
but not for the published proceedings.
Both types of papers should be submitted electronically using the
EasyChair submission page at
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=aiml16
At least one author of each accepted paper or short presentation must
register for and attend the conference.
(1) FULL PAPERS
Authors are invited to submit, for presentation at the conference and
publication in the proceedings, full papers reporting on original
research and not submitted elsewhere. The proceedings of AiML-2016 will
be published by College Publications
http://www.collegepublications.co.uk
in a volume to be made available at the conference.
The submissions should be at most 15 pages, with an optional technical
appendix of up to 5 pages, together with a plain-text abstract of
100-200 words. The submissions must be typeset in LaTeX, using the style
files and template that will be provided on the AiML-2016 website
http://phil.elte.hu/aiml2016/ in due time.
We also ask authors of full papers to submit the abstract in plain
text via EasyChair by 10 March.
(2) SHORT PRESENTATIONS.
These should be at most 5 pages. They may describe preliminary
results, work in progress etc., and will be subject to light reviewing.
The accepted submissions will be made available at the conference, and the
authors will have the opportunity to give short presentations
(of up to 15 minutes) on them.
