*Human Information Behaviour in IS Development and Use*
Human information behaviour (HIB) is a multi-disciplinary field at the
intersection of different scientific disciplines, including Information
Systems (IS), Psychology, Information Science, Sociology, and
Neuroscience. It is concerned with explaining and predicting human
behaviours towards information. This includes behaviours relating to
acquiring, interpreting, using, and sharing information, in addition to
behaviors relating to limiting, filtering, and stopping the information
intake. Information pathologies are of special relevance to HIB
research. They describe misguided and malicious behaviours that cause
relevant information not to be produced, absorbed, used, or shared.
Examples are information avoidance, information hiding, and the
malicious manipulation of information. HIB topics bring together
researchers with diverse backgrounds, epistemological stances, and
research methods. The unit of observation is the individual, the group,
the organization, and the society as a whole.
This special issue seeks contributions that explicitly address the
cognitive and affective processes that relate to information behaviours
and the types of information behaviours evident in the IS literature.
Furthermore, it seeks contributions dealing with the information
construct itself, in addition to issues relating to information quality,
information relevance, and information value.
This BISE journal special issue is open to contributions regardless of
the scientific methodology chosen. Innovative approaches such as the use
of neurophysiology (NeuroIS) are highly appreciated; but the special
issue is not restricted to these methods. The special issue welcomes IS
research contributions that explicitly deal with HIB aspects related to
the development and use of IS.
Contributions from research and business practice on the following (and
related) topics are invited:
• Theories and models that address specific phenomena of HIB
• Information behaviours such as information searching, stopping, or sharing
• Information pathologies such as avoidance or hiding
• Research methodologies that specifically apply for HIB
• Cultural factors in HIB
• Individual factors in HIB, such as age, gender, or personality
• Design science approaches to HIB topics
• Case studies relating to HIB in IS
• Studies on digital literacy and digital inclusion if they are related
to HIB themes
*Submission Guidelines*
Please submit papers for the sections BISE – Research Paper and BISE –
State of the Art by 2016-03-01 at the latest via the journal’s online
submission system (http://www.editorialmanager.com/buis/). Please

(SEnSy)* * * *
**
*Description*
In today’s world, businesses are constantly challenged and have to
change permanently due to economic and political crises, lack of
resources, environmental changes, and ever changing social systems.
Therefore enterprises need new ways to continuously be aware of changes
and more quickly adapt to changing environments in order to remain
competitive. The “Sensing Enterprise”//concept has been coined as a
vision towards enterprises that use new technologies and concepts to
continuously track their business operations and become more responsive
to changing demands and more resilient in regard to threats. Among
enabling technologies for this are different kinds of sensors,
intelligent agents, semantic technologies, smart objects, ad-hoc
networking and technologies for cyber-physical systems. In order to
leverage these technologies, new demands and challenges for enterprise
information systems arise. In order to support and implement this vision
of a continuously (self-)aware enterprise, they have to transform to
“Sensing Enterprise Systems”. This transformation not only addresses
technology, but also the way humans work together and even raises
ethical questions. The workshop therefore provides a platform for a wide
spectrum of contributions that provide novel ideas and studies in
respect to the design and implementation as well as human-related and
economic aspects of future Sensing Enterprise Systems.
*Topics include but are not limited to the following*
·Architectures for Sensing Enterprise Systems
·Modelling and conceptual studies on Sensing Enterprise Systems
·Core enabling technologies and concepts such as sensors and Internet of
Things
·Additional technologies such as intelligent agents, smart objects, text
analytics
·Design theories and methods for developing Sensing Enterprise Systems
·Human aspects such as work organization, privacy and ethical questions
·Neuro-IS topics such as stress detection to support Sensing Enterprise
Systems
·Case studies demonstrating the practical use and efficacy of Sensing
Enterprise Systems
·Empirical research on adoption and acceptance of Sensing Enterprise Systems
·Utility, benefit and profitability analyses for Sensing Enterprise Systems
·Cyber-physical systems in the context or as part of Sensing Enterprise
Systems
·Complex event processing and big data analytics related to proactive
sensing systems
*Submission Requirements*
Submitted papers should not exceed a page limit of 16 pages. The
reviewing process will follow a double-blind procedure. Papers have to
be anonymized before submitting them. Submissions should be in PDF
format only and submitted via EasyChair. The submission site of
EasyChair is available at
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=sensy2016. Formatting of the

Special Issue on Ontological Analysis in Conceptual Modeling
Special Issue Editors:

Peter Green, Queensland University of Technology
Jeffrey Parsons, Memorial University of Newfoundland
Keng Siau, Missouri University of Science and Technology
The call for "native" theories in information systems has been strong over the discipline's history (Straub 2012). One answer to this call has been the ontological theory (drawing on the ontology of Mario Bunge) Wand and Weber introduced to the field in three seminal papers (1990, 1993, 1995). This work established three views on information systems as representations of human perceptions of a domain of interest: the representation model, the state tracking model, and the good decomposition model.
This stream of work has generated a great deal of interest, and produced many papers using Wand and Weber's models to evaluate important phenomena in information systems. Notably, researchers have used ontological analysis to suggest how grammars for conceptual modeling and database design might be modified to be ontologically sound and they have evaluated the effects of these modifications on how well models are understood.
As it has been 25 years since the early work in this area, this is an opportune time to assess the contribution ontological analysis has made to the IS field over the past quarter century and to look forward to new areas of application. We invite submissions that consider this issue from a variety of perspectives, including (but not limited to):
* Theoretical contributions of ontological analysis
* Practical contributions of ontological analysis
* New areas of application of ontological analysis
* Comparative studies of different ontological foundations
* Design science research based on ontological analysis
* Open questions in the use of ontological analysis
Important Dates:
Submission Deadline: June 30, 2016
Initial screening by Guest Editors: July 31, 2016
