CALL FOR PAPERS
MESOCA 2015
2015 IEEE 9th International Symposium on the Maintenance and Evolution of Service-Oriented Systems and Cloud-Based Environments
Co-located with the 31st IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance and Evolution (ICSME 2015), Bremen, Germany
BACKGROUND
Two important areas substantially influence software development in today’s global environment: Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Cloud Computing. From a maintenance and evolution perspective, SOA is confronted with two important challenges: deployed service-oriented systems will have to be maintained and evolved, and legacy systems will continue to use service-orientation to make their legacy functionality available to other systems and applications. Cloud computing brings additional challenges such as privacy, security and lock-in, and offers the developer many deployment choices: private, public or hybrid deployments.
On the other vein, Service Oriented Architectures and Cloud Computing also offer extensive support to analyze, maintain, and evolve legacy systems. Services defining fundamental functionality in e.g. reverse engineering, software analysis, and quality improvement can be orchestrated to provide reasonable and adaptive tool chains.
SYMPOSIUM GOALS
The main goal of MESOCA 2015 is to create a focal point and an ongoing forum for researchers and practitioners to share results and open issues in the areas of maintaining and evolving service-oriented and cloud-based systems or applying these techniques to software maintenance and evolution.
We are interested in submissions from both industry and academia on all topics related to migration, maintenance, and evolution of service-oriented systems and cloud-based systems/environments including service and cloud oriented tool support.
These include, but are not limited to:
* Tools, techniques and methods to support migration to service-oriented architecture and cloud computing environments
Tools, techniques and methods to support maintenance and evolution of service-oriented architecture and cloud computing systems
* Tools, techniques and methods applying service oriented and cloud-based systems to software evolution
* Evolution patterns of service-oriented and cloud-based systems
* Transition patterns to service-oriented and cloud environments
* Governance to support system evolution in service-oriented and cloud environments
* Leverage of service-orientation best practices in cloud environments
* Process models on the migration to service-oriented and cloud-based systems and/or on the maintenance of service-oriented and cloud-based systems
* Case studies of migration to service-oriented and cloud environments
* Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) for migration to SOA and cloud
* Reengineering, identifying, and extracting legacy code for creating services and their implementation
* Large-scale testing for service-oriented and cloud-based systems
* Methods, tools and techniques to measure and ensure the Quality of Services in cloud-deployed systems
* Methods, tools and techniques to achieve adaptation and automation in cloud-deployed systems
We are soliciting two types of papers, as follows:
* Full papers (up to 8 pages). Full papers can be research, evaluation or experience reports. Research papers describe novel and original solutions (theoretical, methodological or conceptual); evaluation papers evaluate or validate existing tools and methods through empirical studies, case studies, simulations, etc.; experience papers present experiences and challenges encountered in practice.
* Short papers (up to 4 pages). Short papers can be position/vision papers that describe novel research positions, targets or approaches that go beyond current research and practice.
PAPER SUBMISSION DETAILS
All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed (single blind) by at least three program committee members. Papers must not have been previously published or concurrently submitted elsewhere. Accepted papers will appear in the symposium proceedings that will be published in the MESOCA 2015 proceedings, which will be available at the IEEE Digital Library. *Important dates:*
*** Deadline for submission of position paper: *20th of May, 2015* ***
Other important dates:
• Notification to the authors: 10th June, 2015
• Camera ready submission: 30th June, 2015
==================================================================
*Introduction and Workshop Goals*
Once in 10 years you have the possibility to discuss about current
trends in research on computing for quality of life and propose your
vision for the future at the decennial Aarhus conference. This time
“Critical and participatory development of people centered smart
learning ecosystems and territories”
has been chosen as one of the themes that are likely to be influential
throughout the next decade and offer an agenda for alternatives with
computing technologies through new forms of societal and critical
engagement.
Since 2005 we are assisting to a rush to transform cities into smart
cities. At present, however, still doesn’t exist a fully shared
definition of smart city: in the understanding of the majority a smart
city is a sort of dream-city, i.e. a complex and optimized environment,
or eco-system, where it could be desirable to live. This because it
promises to preserve and improve the wellbeing of society, exploiting
information and communication technologies (ICT) as an infrastructural
backbone able to influence and improve key factors like mobility,
environment, people, quality of life and governance. However, going
beyond the most popular top-down functionalist approach a new vision of
regional and city smartness driven by a ‘people in place centered
design’ approach is emerging. Not by chance, recently we have assisted
to a shift of the meaning ascribed to the adjective ‘smart’ that has
incorporated a higher consideration for the centrality of the
individuals, their personal characteristics and their expectations, the
quality of their experience and their well-being and, as well, for the
characteristics of the contexts in which they work and live, to include
also the preservation of the environment.
In this framework the interaction with the environment is moving from
the metaphor “being able to use” towards the metaphor “actively
influence and critically build”; individuals are transformed from
consumers into “digital enactive” and produce an increasingly amount of
“traces” and “artefacts” that actively contribute to the re-definition
of places and spaces.
It is quite evident that within the development of people centered smart
cities the underlying and ubiquitous techno-ecosystems - whose embedded
intelligence, sensitivity and responsiveness surround the individuals -
challenge the future of the learning ecosystems and call for a critical
and participatory redefinition of spaces, contents, processes, skills
and benchmarking approaches. Such challenge is not just for researchers
or teachers, but requires the involvement of all potential stakeholders
to develop critically the mediation role of ICT to:
• foster awareness about complexity and its government (orchestration)
• support the acquisition of appropriate behaviors, skills & competencies
• promote open access to space, tools, services, practices,
content/data, people/skills
• tame discontinuities (time - space/place - technological - process -
learning practices)
• identify the driving factors of the smartness including those from the
characteristics of local cultures and contexts
• support policy and decision making
• promote social innovation & learning, capacity building and a
sustainable economy
• develop adequate monitoring and benchmarking approaches
• tame privacy, data control, security and safety
==================================================================
*About position papers and authors*
According to the expectations of the Critical Alternatives conference we
invite submissions from authors who understand themselves in line with
the spirit of the Aarhus Conferences and with that of the workshop.
Submitted position papers, while academically sound, will be evaluated
on the capability to:
• inspire the workshop agenda
• offer a strong contribution to theory and practice
• provide new perspectives and offer critical alternatives
• have potential for long lasting impact
Position papers should be maximum 10 pages long and formatted in LNCS style.
Papers will undergo a double-blind reviewing process (done by invited
reviewers from the program committee) that are complemented by a
meta-review (done by a primary reviewer/PC member).
Submission and review process will be handled by Easychair:
To promote discussion we intend to limit the number of accepted
contributions to 20-25 people.
/Proceedings/
After the workshop, authors of selected contributions will be invited to
prepare a revised and extended paper to be included as part of a focus
section of Interaction Design and Architecture(s) (IxD&A); an IxD&A slot
has been reserved for the first half of 2016
http://www.mifav.uniroma2.it/inevent/events/idea2010/index.php
The focus session will be integrated with high quality papers submitted
following an open call for papers that will be launched on late Autumn 2015.

*Call for Papers: Teilkonferenz "IT-Beratung im Kontext digitaler
Transformation" im Rahmen der MKWI 2016 in Ilmenau*
http://www.mkwi2016.de
Leitung
Prof. Dr. Thomas Deelmann, BiTS Iserlohn
Prof. Dr. Paul Drews, Leuphana Universität Lüneburg
Prof. Dr. Volker Nissen, Technische Universität Ilmenau
Inhalt
einsetzen.
Mögliche Themen für Beiträge
* Digitalisierung und Automatisierung von Beratungsdienstleistungen
* Konvergenz von Beratungsgeschäftsfeldern, z.B. IT- und
Strategieberatung
* Trends bei Beratungsnachfrage und -angebot
* Aus- und Weiterbildung von Beratern
* Professionalisierung von Klienten
* IT-Berater als Change-Agents
* Methoden der IT-Beratung
* Wissensmanagement in IT-Beratungen
* Geschäftsprozesse von IT-Beratungen
* Potentiale und Limitationen in der Forschung über IT-Beratung
Einreichung und Begutachtungsprozess
* Beiträge können in deutscher oder englischer Sprache verfasst
werden. Englische Beiträge sollen während der Konferenz in

Social Computing Technologies (SCT) offer users opportunities for
connectedness, participation and engagement, collaboration,
offering/receiving social support, etc. These applications/systems gather
abundance of information that when mined and analyzed will further enrich
their services or help researchers understand many different things
including social dynamics of people, wisdom of crowd, social construction
and sharing of knowledge, etc. As a result, SCT can be leveraged to empower
both health professional and citizens. Online Social media such as
Facebook, Twitter, QuitNet are increasingly being used for health-related
purposes. A 2013 online survey suggests that 59.9% patients used Twitter
for increasing knowledge and exchanging advice and 52.3% used Facebook for
social support and exchanging advice (
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23899831).
Novel techniques for information analysis, reuse, and integration are
critical to make sense of health-related information. Systematic
approaches, design principles, and evaluation strategies need to be
researched for developing effective health-related social computing
applications. Other challenges in social computing include accommodating
privacy, security, and trust expectations of users or separating good
information from noise. The aim of this workshop is to discuss and exchange
ideas on the issues and challenges in social computing systems as they
relate to health care and public health. We invite research or position
papers from researchers and practitioners working in any aspect of social
computing with research focus on health, healthcare, or public health.
Example topics, but not limited to, include:
-
Design, modeling, and simulation of socially-aware health technology
-
Demonstration cases of using existing social media platforms (e.g.,
twitter, facebook) for health research
-
Social network analysis for the purpose of understanding or intervening
upon health related outcomes
-
Behavioral intervention implemented through social media platforms
-
Disease & health management using social media applications
-
Crowdsourcing health or biomedical research
-
Public health resource sensing or crowdsourcing of public health
resources
-
In time, in place healthcare information through social media
-
Design and evaluation of online patient communities with social network
features
-
Healthcare/mHealth Social Networks
-
Data protection (Privacy, Security, Trust) in healthcare social networks
-
Empowerment of patients and healthcare professionals
-
Design and evaluation of social game for health education & awareness
-
Classification and categorization of health information in social media
-
Mining of big Data for population health monitoring or intervention
-
Social computing application for health & wellness management
All contributions will be peer-reviewed by at least three experts. Papers
should be 4-6 pages (English) in IEEE format, including bibliography and
well-marked appendices. Accepted papers will be published as workshop
papers in the IEEE IRI conference proceedings.
The extended versions of the best papers from the workshop will be
considered for journal publications.
