==================================================================
*Introduction and Workshop Goals*
Once in 10 years you have the possibility to discuss about current
trends in research on computing for quality of life and propose your
vision for the future at the decennial Aarhus conference. This time
“Critical and participatory development of people centered smart
learning ecosystems and territories”
has been chosen as one of the themes that are likely to be influential
throughout the next decade and offer an agenda for alternatives with
computing technologies through new forms of societal and critical
engagement.
Since 2005 we are assisting to a rush to transform cities into smart
cities. At present, however, still doesn’t exist a fully shared
definition of smart city: in the understanding of the majority a smart
city is a sort of dream-city, i.e. a complex and optimized environment,
or eco-system, where it could be desirable to live. This because it
promises to preserve and improve the wellbeing of society, exploiting
information and communication technologies (ICT) as an infrastructural
backbone able to influence and improve key factors like mobility,
environment, people, quality of life and governance. However, going
beyond the most popular top-down functionalist approach a new vision of
regional and city smartness driven by a ‘people in place centered
design’ approach is emerging. Not by chance, recently we have assisted
to a shift of the meaning ascribed to the adjective ‘smart’ that has
incorporated a higher consideration for the centrality of the
individuals, their personal characteristics and their expectations, the
quality of their experience and their well-being and, as well, for the
characteristics of the contexts in which they work and live, to include
also the preservation of the environment.
In this framework the interaction with the environment is moving from
the metaphor “being able to use” towards the metaphor “actively
influence and critically build”; individuals are transformed from
consumers into “digital enactive” and produce an increasingly amount of
“traces” and “artefacts” that actively contribute to the re-definition
of places and spaces.
It is quite evident that within the development of people centered smart
cities the underlying and ubiquitous techno-ecosystems - whose embedded
intelligence, sensitivity and responsiveness surround the individuals -
challenge the future of the learning ecosystems and call for a critical
and participatory redefinition of spaces, contents, processes, skills
and benchmarking approaches. Such challenge is not just for researchers
or teachers, but requires the involvement of all potential stakeholders
to develop critically the mediation role of ICT to:
• foster awareness about complexity and its government (orchestration)
• support the acquisition of appropriate behaviors, skills & competencies
• promote open access to space, tools, services, practices,
content/data, people/skills
• tame discontinuities (time - space/place - technological - process -
learning practices)
• identify the driving factors of the smartness including those from the
characteristics of local cultures and contexts
• support policy and decision making
• promote social innovation & learning, capacity building and a
sustainable economy
• develop adequate monitoring and benchmarking approaches
• tame privacy, data control, security and safety
==================================================================

CALL FOR PAPERS
for the 6th International ECML/PKDD 2015 Workshop
on
*MINING UBIQUITOUS AND SOCIAL ENVIRONMENTS*
(MUSE 2015)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The emergence of ubiquitous computing has started to create
new environments consisting of small, heterogeneous, and
distributed devices that foster the social interaction of
users in several dimensions. Similarly, the upcoming social
web also integrates the user interactions in social networking
environments.
In typical ubiquitous settings, the mining system can be
implemented inside the small devices and sometimes on central
servers, for real-time applications, similar to common mining
approaches. However, the characteristics of ubiquitous and
social mining in general are quite different from the current
mainstream data mining and machine learning. Unlike in
traditional data mining scenarios, data does not necessarily emerge
from a small number of data sources, but potentially from hundreds
to millions of different sources. Analysis and prediction using
such data sources provides new challenges for the data mining
and machine learning community.
In a related way, the mining of social data is concerned with
investigating emerging phenomena originating from groups of
individuals and one or more (heterogenous) data sources.
Mining behavioral patterns (e.g., relating to mobility, social
interactions, etc.) in ubiquitous and social environments is an
important up-and-coming area of research focusing on advanced
descriptive and predictive analysis in such distributed and
network-organized contexts.
Therefore, for this workshop, we aim to attract researchers from
all over the world working in the field of data mining and machine
learning with a special focus on finding behavioral patterns in
ubiquitous and social environments.
GOALS AND AUDIENCE
==================
The goal of this workshop is to promote an interdisciplinary

networks which are interested in utilizing data mining in a
ubiquitous setting. The workshop seeks for contributions
adopting state-of-the-art mining algorithms on ubiquitous
social data. Papers combining aspects of the two fields are
especially welcome. In short, we want to accelerate the
process of identifying the power of advanced data mining
operating on data collected in ubiquitous and social
environments, as well as the process of advancing data
mining through lessons learned in analyzing these new data.

Motivation and Background
We are entering a golden age of e-learning. E-learning could be at a
'Tipping Point' as American's trust in the quality of e-learning
grows, and the number of students who take at least one online course
continues to increase. Now is the time to make e-learning more
successful. The success of an e-learning system can be measured in
terms of learning outcomes and learner satisfaction, two dependent
constructs that have been widely accepted in the e-learning
literature. Learning outcomes are measured by progress on relevant
objectives set by the instructor including progress on gaining
factual knowledge, learning fundamental principles, and learning to
apply what is learned to improve problem solving. Learner
satisfaction is measured by the degree of satisfaction with perceived
outcomes of taking online courses, courses, and instructors.
This special issue is dedicated to identifying and effectively
managing critical success factors for e-learning that enable
e-learning outcomes to equal if not surpass those of face-to-face
instruction. Moreover, it seeks to draw on experience with e-learning
systems to provide direction for future developments in this domain.
Conceptual frameworks, qualitative research, and empirical studies in
the following areas are encouraged
* Review, critical analysis, and/or meta-analysis of past research to
evaluate the current state of e-learning and to guide future
directions for e-learning development
* Conceptual frameworks for e-learning
* Dimensions of e-learning systems
* Human dimension
* Students: Self-Motivation, Personality, Learning Styles
* Instructors as Facilitators, Motivators, Moderators
* Design dimension
* Learning models (Objectivism, Constructivism, Collaborativism,

* Course content, structure, and infrastructure
* Learning Management systems and Information technology
* Technology platforms and tools
* Security considerations
* Collaborative meetings and discussion tools
* Student-created instructional materials
* Learner control and self-regulated e learning
* Problem based learning
* Self-directed learning

and Innovations (AIAI 2015) http://aiai2015.sigappfr.org.
The provision of a large amount of data from various sources (Internet,
Social Media,
Application Logs, Data Warehouses, Sensors, Mobiles, Open Data, etc.) is
now emerging
into the collection and processing of “Big Data”. While Big Data notion
is adopted from both
academic and enterprise communities, there is currently a wide gap
between its potential
and its realization. Variety, velocity, scale, complexity,
interpretation and security
problems with Big Data raise challenges at all phases of the pipeline
that can extract
information and knowledge from it. Thus, there is a natural interest in
using these data
asset to improve a variety of applications. It is very interesting to
explore how the
researchers utilize data-driven strategies and discover what disciplines
will charge because
of the advent of data. With the vast amount of data now available modern
business are facing
with the challenges of storage, management, analysis, privacy,
visualization, security and
data integration.
The aim of this workshop is to serve as an interdisciplinary forum for
bringing together
specialists from the scientific areas of Computer Engineering, Finance
and Operational Research.
The focus of this workshop is on current technological advances and
challenges about the development
of big data-driven algorithms and methods and tools. Furthermore, it
would be very interesting
to investigate if the use of a vast amount of data leads to more
accurate models or not.
Following the success of the 1st MT4BD workshop held last year in
Rhodes, Greece, MT4BD 2015
aims to further promote the formation of a community around the topic
and gather
an increased number of researchers and practitioners.

Betreff: [AISWorld] Final Call for Papers: Algorithms & Theories for
the Analysis of Event Data (ATAED'2015)
Datum: Sat, 9 May 2015 17:34:22 +0000
Von: Aalst, W.M.P. van der <W.M.P.v.d.Aalst(a)tue.nl>
An: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
We received several requests for a deadline extension of the ATAED'2015 workshop in Brussels.
The new deadline for full papers (up to 15 pages) and for short papers (up to 5 pages) is May 17, 2015.
=====================================================================
Algorithms & Theories for the Analysis of Event Data (ATAED'2015)
Brussels, Belgium, June 22-23, 2015
Deadline for papers: May 17, 2015
The workshop Algorithms & Theories for the Analysis of Event Data (ATAED'2015) is a satellite event of both the 36th International Conference on Application and Theory of Petri Nets and Concurrency (Petri nets 2015) and the 14th International Conference on Application of Concurrency to System Design (ACSD 2015). The workshop aims to attract papers related to Process Mining, Region Theory and other synthesis techniques. These techniques have in common that "lower level" behavioral descriptions (event logs, partial orders, transition systems, etc.) are used to create "higher level" process models (e.g., various classes of Petri nets, BPMN, or UML activity diagrams).
Recent developments in process mining make it possible to analyze event data, thereby focusing on behavior rather than correlations and simplistic performance indicators. For example, event logs can be used to automatically learn end-to-end process models based on historic event data. Next to the automated discovery of the real underlying process, there are process mining techniques to analyze bottlenecks, to uncover hidden inefficiencies, to check compliance, to explain deviations, to predict performance, and to guide users towards "better" processes. ATAED'2015 solicits papers related to process mining algorithms and theories. However, the scope is not limited to this. On the one hand, other types of "lower level" behavioral descriptions may be used (next to event logs), e.g., transition systems, partially ordered runs, sequence charts, and Markov chains. On the other hand, also related problems (next to process mining) may be addressed, e.g., hardware synthesis, visualization of concurrent system behavior, synthesis of controllers, analysis of biological (membrane) systems, etc. These are all within the scope. The idea is always the same: Going from "lower level" behavioral descriptions to "higher level" process models.
The program committee invites submission of full papers (up to 15 pages) and of short papers (up to 5 pages). Papers should be submitted as pdf-files using the Springer LNCS-format (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html). Papers need to be submitted via Easychair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ataed2015.
Topics:
· Possible topics of the solicited papers are:
· theory and applications of process mining
· automated business process model discovery
· conformance checking, alignments, and replay algorithms
· extensions and applications of region theory in different fields
· business process intelligence and other data-driven process oriented approaches
· techniques combining formal methods with data science approaches
· algorithms, theories, and tools for region theory and other forms of synthesis
· case studies and empirical investigations using event data

History of the workshop:
The workshop can be viewed as a succession of the Applications of Region Theory (ART) workshop series:
* Applications of Region Theory (ART) 2013, Barcelona, Spain
* Applications of Region Theory (ART) 2011, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK
* Applications of Region Theory (ART) 2010, Braga, Portugal
Regions have been defined about 20 years ago by Ehrenfeucht and Rozenberg as sets of nodes of a finite transition system that correspond to potential conditions that enable or disable transition occurrences in a corresponding elementary net system. Initially, region theory focused on synthesis approaches where the transition system and resulting Petri net are equivalent (e.g., bisimilar). In recent years, various forms of region-based ideas (language-based and state-based variants) have been applied in the context of process mining. Here, there is only example behavior and, as a result, classical techniques fail to work. One needs to deal with new problems such as noise and incompleteness. Hence, there are many theoretical challenges with a high practical relevance. This workshop is not limited to region-based approaches. In fact all techniques that aim at learning or checking concurrent behavior from transition systems, runs, or event logs are welcome. The workshop is supported by the IEEE Task Force on Process Mining.

The International Conference on Computational Aspects of Social
Networks is a major annualinternational conference to brings together
an interdisciplinary venue for social scientists, mathematicians,
computer scientists, engineers, computer users, and students to
exchange and share their experiences, new ideas, and research results
about all aspects (theory, applications and tools) of intelligent
methods applied to Social Network, and to discuss the practical
challenges encountered and the solutions adopted. The conference
programme will include workshops, special sessions and tutorials,
along with prominent keynote speakers and regular paper presentations
in parallel tracks. Proceedings are expected to be published by the
Advances in Intelligent and Soft Computing, which is now indexed by
ISI Proceedings, DBLP. Ulrich's, EI-Compendex, SCOPUS, Zentralblatt
Math, MetaPress, Springerlink Proceedings will be made available
during the conference.
Social networks provide a powerful abstraction of the structure and
dynamics of diverse kinds of people or people-to-technology
interaction. These social network systems are usually characterized by
the complex network structures and rich accompanying contextual
information. Recent trends also indicate the usage of complex network
as a key feature for next generation usage and exploitation of the
Web. This international conference on Computational Aspect of Networks
is focused on the foundations of social networks as well as case
studies, empirical, and other methodological works related to the
computational tools for the automatic discovery of Web-based social
networks. This conference provides an opportunity to compare and
contrast the ethological approach to social behavior in animals
(including the study of animal tracks and learning by members of the
same species) with web-based evidence of social interaction,
perceptual learning, information granulation, the behavior of humans
and affinities between web-based social networks. The main topics
cover the design and use of various computational intelligence tools
and software, simulations of social networks, representation and
analysis of social networks, use of semantic networks in the design
and community-based research issues such as knowledge discovery,
privacy and protection, and visualization.

CFP- Social Media in Government HICSS- 2016
Governments have also discovered the potential of social media platforms
for sharing governmental information and outreach. Social media unite
several communication channels and enhance opportunities for citizens to
provide feedback to government officers and political representatives.
Guidelines for the use of online social networks and other social media are
relatively new in governmental agencies and many implementation challenges
still persist. Given that the demand for social media-based government
services is growing, issues related to privacy, information leakage,
blurred boundaries between private and public spheres, and government
surveillance must all be urgently addressed.
This minitrack is open to papers that cover all aspects of social media,
particularly in the context of citizen participation and electronic
government.
Minitrack topics include, but are not limited to:
* Case studies of the use of online social media and networks by any
level of government
* Social media and citizen participation

> Calling all Associate Professors, including those who have attended a
> mid-career workshop in the past! The AMCIS 2015 Mid-Career Workshop is an
> interactive, peer-led workshop for mid-career faculty, by mid-career
> faculty, and is designed just for you. The workshop will be held on
> Thursday, August 13th from 8:00am - 2:30pm at the El Conquistador Waldorf
> Astoria Resort in Puerto Rico.
> After reaching the milestone of tenure and promotion, mid-career
> professors often themselves at a crossroads, fully responsible for
> structuring the advancement of their own professional growth and wondering;
> how do I find my fit and identify new goals? What is it that I want to be
> known for and how do I create a personal brand that makes my work stand
> apart?
> Mid-career is an exciting but complex and varied time when individuals
> have the freedom to explore new opportunities and define a unique career
> path that is consistent with their individual interests and talents;
> however, the potential of mid-career can be squandered if individuals fail
> to identify meaningful goals and growth opportunities in order to find
> their fit. Many post-tenure individuals who reach this crossroads find a
> lack of institutional support and a formal mentorship structure
> post-tenure, the AMCIS 2015 Mid-Career Workshop is designed with this in
> mind. This mid-career workshop is specifically for those that have reached
> tenure and/or promotion to associate professor and are now wondering how
> best to define new career goals, find their fit, and create a personal
> brand to convey what they want to be known for, set them apart, and
> facilitate a lasting legacy. The facilitators and panelists are mid-career
> faculty that have defined a set of unique goals for themselves and have
> crafted a unique personal brand. Panelists are from a mix of
> research-oriented universities and teaching-oriented universities.
> The theme of this workshop is "Finding Your Fit" as a mid-career Associate
> Professor. As a participant you can expect panel discussions and to join
> in breakout sessions and interactive peer-to-peer discussions. For more
> details, visit http://amcis2015.aisnet.org/mid-career-workshop.
> Registration is only $25, but attendance is limited to the first 40
> registrants. It is an AIS-sponsored event, so all participants must be
> registered for the conference.
> Panelists include:
> Angelika Dimoka, Temple University
> Stacie Petter, Baylor University
> Adriane Randolph, Kennesaw State University
> Andrew Schwarz, Louisiana State University
> For more information, contact the workshop organizers: Sandi Richardson at
