BPD2013 - 9th International Workshop on Business Process Design
http://www.bpd-workshops.com/
In conjunction with:
11th International Conference on Business Process Management (http://bpm2013.tsinghua.edu.cn)
26-30 August, 2013
Beijing, China
Paper submission deadline: 31st May 2013
Business Process Design is at the core of Business Process Management. As the most value-adding stage of the process lifecycle, it is dedicated to the development of improved and compliant business processes. Designing a process that improves corporate performance is a challenging task that requires multi-disciplinary expertise and a plethora of inputs (for example, organizational strategies, goals, constraints, human and technical capabilities, to name a few). However, unlike other well-defined and theory-grounded stages of the process lifecycle (e.g., process modeling), Business Process Design is scarcely understood, with little guidance detailing how or when to use a variety of improvement approaches. The lack of comprehensive research on Process Design limits the effectiveness of BPM professionals, who rely heavily on tacit knowledge and personal experiences in the absence of proven practices.
BPD2013 aims to bring together researchers and practitioners who have an interest in advancing the state of the art in Process Design. We seek contributions by authors who wish to share their innovative ideas and insightful observations. Two main categories of submissions will be considered: regular papers and industry papers.
The workshop focuses exclusively on aspects related to Process Design within the process lifecycle. This specialization excludes the well-researched process modeling and process execution. Within this specialized scope, topics of interest include but are not limited to:
* Process improvement methods, tools and techniques
* Process improvement objectives
* Process improvement patterns
* Process improvement measures and evaluation
* Process design in the cloud
* Process reference models
* Process innovation
* Open innovation and crowdsourcing based approaches to process improvement
* Process improvement approaches based on process mining
* Visualizing process designs
* Constraints in process design (e.g. legislative requirements, compliance)
* Process design governance
* Process design for emerging challenges (e.g. greening of processes)
* Human aspects (involvement, participation, acceptance) in process design
* Linking process design to organizational strategy and goals
* Success factors in process design
Paper Submission:
Only papers in English will be accepted, and the length of the paper must not exceed 12 pages. Papers should be submitted electronically via the EasyChair submission system at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=bpd2013. For formatting instructions and further details please refer to the BPD2013 website: http://www.bpd-workshops.com/submission-instructions/

DESCRIPTION
In today's competitive and highly dynamic environment, analyzing data to
understand how the business is performing and to predict outcomes and
trends has become critical. The traditional approach to reporting is no
longer adequate. Instead users now demand easy-to-use intelligent
platforms and applications capable of analyzing real-time data to
provide insight and actionable information at the right time. The end
goal is to support better and timelier decision making, enabled by the
availability of up-to-date, high quality information.
Although there has been progress in this direction and many companies
are introducing products towards meeting this goal, there is still a
long way to go. In particular, the whole lifecycle of business
intelligence requires innovative techniques and methodologies capable of
dealing with the requirements imposed by these new generation of BI
applications. From the capture of real-time business data to the
transformation and delivery of actionable information, all the stages of
the Business Intelligence (BI) cycle call for new algorithms and
paradigms to support value-added functionalities. These functionalities
include dynamic integration of real-time data feeds from operational
sources, optimization and evolution of ETL transformations and
analytical models, and dynamic generation of adaptive real-time
dashboards, just to name a few.
The series of BIRTE workshops, starting in 2006, have always been held
in conjunction with VLDB. The series aims to provide a forum to discuss
topics related to this emerging field and set research directions
towards making business intelligence more real-time. Following the
success of previous BIRTE editions (2006, 2008-2012) submissions for
research, industrial and position papers on relevant topics are encouraged.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Forty-Seventh Annual Hawai'i International Conference on
System Sciences (HICSS-47)
January 6 - 9, 2014 (Monday-Thursday)
The Hilton Waikoloa Village on Hawai'i Island
(http://www.hiltonwaikoloavillage.com
<http://www.hiltonwaikoloavillage.com/>)
Track: Knowledge Systems
Minitrack: Knowledge Management Value, Success and
Performance Measurements
This minitrack encourages paper submissions from researchers
and practitioners exploring value, performance and success
measurement aspects of knowledge management and
organizational memories. These include case studies,
measuring the effectiveness/efficiency and/or success of
implemented systems, defining metrics, critical success
factors, and key performance indicators, specifying
frameworks, models, methodologies, and processes for
assessing knowledge management and/or organizational memory
systems, critical issues, strategy concerns, and lessons
learned.
Research into knowledge management (KM), organizational
memories, and organizational learning has been affected by
investigations such as implementation aspects, system
developments, or knowledge flows during a number of years.
Therefore, a high maturity level of KM research has been
achieved. However, organizational KM initiatives are more
and more faced with budget cuts and justification demands
due to intense competition in today’s business environments.
The influences of the rapid pace of globalization and of the
ongoing liberalization of national and international markets
lead to the emergence of increased pressure on existing
companies.
Project managers of KM initiatives like Chief Knowledge
Officers need to justify their budgets and thus are in need
of qualitative and quantitative evidence of the initiatives’
success. In addition, ROI calculations and traditional
accounting approaches do not tell an adequate story when
proposing knowledge-based initiatives. This minitrack
explores research into strategies, methodologies, and
stories that relate to measure this success. In addition,
this minitrack will be used to explore the bodies of
performance measurements that define the current state of
research in measuring KM, organizational memory, and
organizational learning success. Eventually, another purpose
of this minitrack is to present research on how to value
knowledge-based initiatives.
Topics and research areas include, but are not limited to:
* Frameworks and models for assessing knowledge management
and/or organizational memory systems
* Methodologies and processes for measuring knowledge
management and/or organizational memory success and performance
* Impact of knowledge management strategy, organization,
systems, culture, and other issues on knowledge
management/organizational memory success
* Organizational effectiveness/efficiency due to knowledge
management/organizational memory/organizational learning,
knowledge and organizational memory use
* Knowledge management, organizational memory, and
organizational learning metrics
* Knowledge management,organizational memory, and
organizational learning success factors and key performance
indicators
* Benchmarking of knowledge management/organizational memory
initiatives
* Case studies of knowledge management and organizational
memory success and performance measurements
* Measuring knowledge management and/or organizational
memory performance in global organizations and globally
dispersed communities
* Effectiveness and/or efficiency of knowledge
management/organizational memory systems
* Modeling and measuring the impact of social software on
knowledge management performance
* Defining knowledge management and organizational memory
success
* Rigorous anecdotes and user stories and their theoretical
basis to facilitate the value of knowledge-based initiatives
* Developing grounded theory approaches to valuing
knowledge-based initiatives
* Understanding knowledge-based initiatives’ activities and
output as service offerings and exploring their productivity
* Usage, adoption and success of knowledge management methods

Introduction
Since the late 2000s, social media has paved new ways of accessing customers for businesses and conducting business activities. Social media represents a variety of dynamic and community-based Web applications that place value on the power of distributed knowledge and provide users with rich interactive experiences. New organizations taking advantage of social media are also being developed, creating successful new markets. For example, Blade.org is a collaborative community-based organization initiated by IBM around its blade server technology. Social commerce intermediaries such as Groupon and LivingSocial provide discount information on the products/services to consumers. Various merchant reputation sites such as Yelp and TripAdvisor create value to consumers based on user-generated content. With the widespread adoption of social media by customers, it became imperative for businesses to leverage social media technologies to stay competitive in the global economy.

Terrorism and crime threaten the international community and our
society more than ever before. Criminal networks and terrorist groups
that often operate globally try to hide their illegal activities by
using advanced information and communications technology. They
communicate easier and form global communities that are hard to track.
Fortunately, resources like social media, event logs, phone call logs,
web logs, and other time series data, constitute a rich source for
knowledge discovery. There is a serious need for innovative techniques
and tools capable of achieving the ultimate goal of early warning to
help detecting, identifying and neutralizing the source of a threat.

Call For Papers: Special Issue on Identity Protection and Management
Elsevier Information Security Technical Report (ISTR)
Motivation
The increasing move to online business and e-government requires management of various aspects of peoples’ identities on information systems.
Usernames, passwords, personal profiles, social security numbers, patient identifiers, e-mail addresses, credit card numbers, etc. are used to
uniquely identify individuals. Many of these identifiers are highly mobile, and spread into many information systems and purposes. As a result,
individuals increasingly leave trails of personal data when using the Internet, which allow them to be profiled and which persist for long periods of
time. At the same time, trends such as Cloud Computing make it increasingly difficult for both information managers and individuals to control and
manage this personal information. To make systems more usable for both individuals and information managers, Identity Management systems are needed
that are interoperable and can be reused in multiple systems. In addition, as a result of increasing cyber fraud and cyber terrorism, the demand for
better technical methods of identification is growing, not only in companies and organisations but also in the world at large.
This special issue on Identity Protection and Management is intended to bring forth the recent advancements in this area. Original and unpublished
contributions covering, but not limited to, the following and related issues concerning Identity Management and Privacy are solicited. Extended
editions of published conference papers are also welcome.
* New Identity Management technologies and approaches
* Interoperable Identity Management solutions
* Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PETs)
* Identity Management solutions for e-Government
* Identity Protection and Management in and for Cloud Computing
* Privacy and Identity Management in social networks
* Risk analysis techniques for privacy risk and privacy impact assessment
* Identity theft prevention
* User-centric and usable Identity Management
* Legal, social, economic, philosophical and ethical aspects
* Attacks on Identity Management systems
* Methods of identification and authentication
* Anonymity, pseudonymity, unlinkability and unobservability mechanisms
* Surveillance, monitoring and profiling methods
* Federated Identity Management
* Tracing, monitoring and forensics
* Privacy and anonymity in the Web
Important Dates
* Paper submission: September 30, 2013
* First-round acceptance notification: November 29, 2013
* Revision: December 20, 2013
* Final decision: January 31, 2014
* Submission of final paper: February 14, 2014
* Publication date: March 31 , 2014
Submission Details
Paper submissions for the special issue should follow the submission format and guidelines for regular Elsevier Information Security Technical Report
(ISTR) papers. Author guidelines can be found at http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/journaldescription.cws_home/31185/authorin…. All the papers
will be peer-reviewed following the ISTR reviewing procedures. Guest editors will make an initial determination of the suitability and scope of all
submissions. Papers that either lack originality, clarity in presentation or fall outside the scope of the special issue will not be sent for review
and the authors will be promptly informed in such cases.
