Call for Patterns
4th Workshop on Ontology and Semantic Web Patterns (WOP2013)
http://ontologydesignpatterns.org/wiki/WOP:2013
October 21st or 22nd, 2013
Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour, Australia
*****************************************************
Submission deadline - July 12th, 2013 (11:59pm Hawaii time)
*****************************************************
This workshop provides an arena for proposing and discussing good and
bad practices, patterns, pattern-based ontologies, systems, etc. The aim
is to broaden the pattern community that will develop its own “language”
for discussing and describing relevant problems and their solutions. The
workshop will be held in conjunction with ISWC 2013 and will be a
half-day event.
We invite the submission of research results in the form of ontology
design patterns (ODPs). Patterns submitted should have a general
relevance to the ontology engineering field, or specific interest within
a knowledge domain. Patterns should solve some particular modeling
problem, and be of significant interest for discussion at the workshop.
Patterns should be original, in the sense that they are the intellectual
product of the author(s), however they may still be based on the
collective experience of a community.
---- Pattern Topics -----
Ontology design pattern (ODP) submissions will be collected
* by submitting a description of the pattern (pattern description) via
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=wop2013 (select "WOP2013
Patterns Track”)
* through the ODP portal [1]: templates for submission [2] are provided
for the following types of patterns (see general typology [3] for
explanation of the types):
** Content patterns
** Structural patterns: logical and architecture patterns.
** Correspondence patterns: re-engineering and alignment patterns.
For other types of patterns, the author is welcome to submit only a
pattern description.
Detailed instructions for patterns submission, including how to submit
via the ontologydesignpatterns.org portal, are found at the submission
page [4]. Note that an account in the ODP portal is needed for
submitting patterns; thus, authors should take care to request an
account at least one week before their intended submission.
---- Process -----
Patterns are submitted through the ODP portal [1,2], and reviewed by at
least two members of the ODP portal quality committee. Accepted patterns
are to be improved based on the review comments, i.e. an update of the
patterns in the ODP portal is mandatory. Accepted patterns are then
presented as posters at the workshop, in a joint poster session with
poster and demo papers. After the workshop, the patterns may be
considered for certification in the ODP portal.
---- Best Pattern Award ----
Reviewers and workshop participants will together distinguish the best
pattern submission, final decision to be made by the chairs. The best
pattern award takes into account criteria such as the quality of the
submission, the relevance and significance of the pattern, the
presentation of the pattern, and the level of involvement of the author
during the revision phase and poster session discussions during the
workshop.
---- Important dates (2013, 11:59 Hawaii time) ----
* Submission deadline (research papers and patterns) - July 12th
* Notification of acceptance (research papers and patterns) - August 9th
* Camera ready deadline (research papers and pattern abstracts) - August
31st
* Workshop date - October 21st or 22nd

Dear Gustaf Neumann,
The 3rd International Conference on Simulation and Modeling Methodologies, Technologies and Applications - SIMULTECH 2013 (http://www.simultech.org) would like to promote a forum where PhD students who have already started their research can present their PhD projects and discuss their research questions and research methodologies with an advisory board composed by some of the most eminent researchers present at the venue of the conference. This will, hopefully, be very helpful for the future path of the PhD students whose work is selected to be presented and discussed at this academic forum and furthermore it will be an opportunity for them to create additional connections with specialists in their field.
The paper that a PhD student can submit until June 3rd needs to be written in a specific format, appropriate for facilitating the aforementioned discussion therefore it is expected to be a much simpler paper and definitely not a regular paper. There will be a review and selection process, though, and the accepted papers will be included in the CD-ROM that also includes the proceedings of the conference and the papers of the Doctoral Consortium presented at the venue will also be included in the SCITEPRESS Digital Library. However, they will not be included in the book of proceedings as archival publications therefore they will remain free of copyright and the registration will be a "student registration", i.e. at a 50% discount regarding regular registrations.
Should you have any question or suggestions please don't hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
Marina Carvalho

*Virtual Team Effectiveness: Investigating the Moderating
Role of Experience with Computer-Mediated Communication on
the Impact of Team Cohesion and Openness*
**
*John R. Carlson (Department of Information Systems, Baylor
University, Waco, TX, USA), Dawn S. Carlson (Department of
Management, Baylor University, Waco, TX, USA), Emily M.
Hunter (Department of Management, Baylor University, Waco,
TX, USA), Randal L. Vaughn (Department of Information
Systems, Baylor University, Waco, TX, USA) and Joey F.
George (SCIS Department, Iowa State University, Ames, IA, USA)*
The work of virtual teams is increasingly important to
today's organizations, work that is accomplished
predominantly via computer-mediated communication. The
authors investigate the moderating role of experience with
instant messaging on the team interpersonal processes
(cohesion and openness) to team effectiveness relationship
in virtual teams. Data were obtained from 365 virtual team
members using survey methodology and analyzed using
hierarchical moderated regression and multilevel analyses.
They found that team cohesion has a main effect on team
effectiveness. Team openness has a main effect and is
moderated by experience with instant messaging, i.e.,
strengthens the relationship. Understanding the role of team
interpersonal processes and the role of the communication
media will allow managers to more effectively build virtual
teams and provide effective training and support. Using the
theoretical lens of channel expansion theory the authors
expand theoretical, empirical and practical knowledge of
this area.

*PAPER TWO*
*An Artifact Switching Model for User Acceptance of eBooks*
**
*Clive Sanford (Department of Information Systems, Hanyang
University, Seoul, Korea)*
This study theorizes and validates a model of user switching
from non-IT artifacts to IT artifacts by integrating and
extending prior findings from IT acceptance and adoption
streams of research and using migration theory as the
theoretical bridge. The proposed model examines different
types of switching predictors such as push and pull factors,
intervening obstacles, and individual differences, as well
as interdependencies between these factors as moderating
effects. Empirical data from a longitudinal field survey of
users' switching from traditional hard copy books to eBooks
validates most of the hypothesized associations. This study
alerts publishers, academics, and educational institutions
to the challenges and opportunities of artifact switching in
general and suggests strategies that can help these
stakeholders enable artifact switching within their target
populations.

Goal Abstraction, Goal Linkage Dependency, and Perceived
Utilitarian Value of Information Systems: A Mixed-Method Study
Sabine Matook (UQ Business School, The University of
Queensland, Brisbane, QLD, Australia) and Hans van der
Heijden (School of Management, Royal Holloway, University of
London, UK)
Prior research has shown that the utilitarian value of an
information system influences user acceptance because of the
way the system helps to achieve certain user goals. It is
less recognized in the literature that users have multiple
goals that influence a user's perception regarding the
information system's utilitarian value. This paper extends
this body of knowledge by incorporating different types of
goals into a theoretical framework. Building on means-end
chain theory, two goal characteristics are identified, goal
abstraction and goal linkage dependency, that both exert an
influence on the utilitarian value of an information system.
Findings from a qualitative and a quantitative study
indicate that perceived utilitarian value changes as goal
abstraction increases, and that goal linkage dependency
influences the similarity of perceived utilitarian values
across goals. Implications are important because they
provide insight into potentially contradicting user
evaluations of information systems.

Assessing ERP Learning (Management, Business Process, and
Skills) and Attitudes
Timothy Paul Cronan (Department of Information Systems, Sam
M. Walton College of Business, University of Arkansas,
Fayetteville, AR, USA) and David E. Douglas (Department of
Information Systems, Sam M. Walton College of Business,
University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR, USA)
Critical to successful implementation and maximizing the
potential benefits of enterprise resource planning (ERP)
systems are knowledgeable and skilled users. Effective
training for the required knowledge and skills is both
difficult and challenging. Focusing on the assessment of ERP
learning, this research develops learning constructs based
on Kang and Santhanam's (2003-4) collaborative application
learning model. A valid and reliable ERP learning instrument
that can be used to measure ERP learning and attitudes
toward ERP is presented. The ERP learning instrument
consists of three constructs (16 items) to measure ERP
learning (business process knowledge, enterprise systems
management knowledge, and transaction skills) as well as
measures of attitudes toward ERP (instrument available from
the authors at no cost) . The results of the study indicate
that an ERP simulation game enhanced student learning and
influenced student attitudes toward an ERP system.

The 5th International Workshop on Social Software Engineering invites contributions from researchers involved with research on the socialness of software engineering and developed software. The workshop will take place on August 18, 2013 in Saint Petersburg, Russia and will be colocated with ESEC/FSE 2013. Accepted papers will appear in the ACM Digital Library.
Website: http://socialse.org
Twitter: https://twitter.com/sse_ws
ESEC/FSE 2013: http://esec-fse.inf.ethz.ch
*** IMPORTANT DATES ***
May 26 2013: Submission deadline
June 14 2013: Review feedback
June 28 2013: Camera-ready
August 18 2013: Workshop
*** MOTIVATION ***
The Workshop on Social Software Engineering (SSE) focuses on the socialness of software engineering and of developed software. On one hand, we consider social factors in software engineering activities, processes, and CASE tools to be useful to improve the quality of development processes and the software produced by them. Examples include the role of situational awareness and multi-cultural factors in collaborative software development. On the other hand, the dynamics of the social contexts in which software could operate (e.g., in a cloud environment) calls for engineering social adaptability as a production-time iterative activity. One example is to gather users’ feedback on software quality and use it to autonomously or semi-autonomously adapt the software. The SSE workshop brings together academic and industrial perspectives to provide models, methods, tools, and approaches to address these issues.
*** TOPICS OF INTEREST ***
In this workshop, we will bring together researchers and practitioners who study and build socially-oriented tools to support collaboration and knowledge sharing in software engineering. We will also investigate the adaptability of software to the dynamic social contexts in which it could operate, and the involvement of clients and end-users in shaping software adaptation decisions at runtime. These social contexts include norms, culture, roles and responsibilities, stakeholder goals and inter-dependencies, end-user perception of the quality and appropriateness of each software behaviour, and others.
This workshop is organized around a number of topics, which we divide into two categories:
1. Software Engineering as a Social Activity
* Leveraging social computing in the requirements engineering, design, development, testing, and maintenance stages of software development
* Radically-distributed software engineering, semi-anonymous collaboration, "borderless" development teams
* Exploiting, customizing and extending existing software engineering processes and paradigms to support the socialness of software engineering
* Analysing the use of social networks and media to connect users and incentivize behaviours in software development communities and organizations
* The "social" software engineer: redefining the software engineering risks, rewards, and opportunities
* Using ICT-mediated social media to teach software engineering and share knowledge between different stakeholders
* Research methods, models and empirical studies on the socialness of software engineering process
* Forward-looking scenarios and research agendas
2. Engineering Social Adaptability
* Systematic capturing and analysis of user and community feedback and making user and community involvement a first order concern in software runtime decisions and planning software evolution
* Engineering methods, tools, and frameworks for sociability features of software, such as inspiring trust and encouraging users to act as collaborators
* Engineering software to support social awareness and the ability to socially adapt to norms, culture and organizational structure in different production environments
* Exploring and employing approaches in sociology and psychology for the engineering of social adaptability of software
* Engineering social and participatory sensing to gather data from users on the move
* Architectures and CASE tools for runtime management of software sociability
* Recommendation systems for social adaptability
* Research methods, models and empirical studies regarding engineering the sociability and social adaptability of software
* Forward-looking scenarios and research agendas
*** TYPES OF CONTRIBUTIONS ***
We invite three kinds of submissions:
* Full papers (6-8 pages) describing social software engineering challenges, needs, novel approaches, and frameworks. New approaches must be evaluated with users who did not help design the system. Empirical evaluation papers and industrial experience reports are also welcome.
* Short position papers (3-4 pages) describing a new idea or work in progress.
* Posters and demo papers (1-2 pages) summarizing a research project, tool, or technique.
*** SUBMISSIONS ***
All papers must conform at time of submission to the ESEC/FSE 2013 Format and Submission Guidelines: http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates

Website: http://www.mkwi2014.de/
Teilkonferenz: Adoption, Nutzung und Erfolg von Artefakten
in der WI
Webseite: http://www.mkwi2014.de/Cfps/Details/1
********************************************************************************
BESCHREIBUNG
Fragestellungen der Wirkung und Wirtschaftlichkeit von
Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien (IKT) werden in
der Wirtschaftsinformatik (WI) seit vielen Jahren intensiv
diskutiert.
Forschung. In der internationalen
Information-Systems-(IS)-Community spiegelt sich das u.a. in
zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen zu IS Success und IS Adoption
– oftmals auf individueller Ebene – wider. Komplementär
nimmt der Forschungsstrang zum Geschäftsnutzen von IKT
(Business Value of IT) einen breiteren – zumeist
Diffusion

Betreff: [WI] CfP: Semantics for Big Data AAAI Fall Symposium 2013
Datum: Sat, 11 May 2013 12:57:58 -0400
Von: Pascal Hitzler <pascal.hitzler(a)wright.edu>

Semantics for Big Data
AAAI 2013 Fall Symposium; Westin Arlington Gateway in Arlington,
Virginia, November 15-17, 2013.
http://stko.geog.ucsb.edu/s4bd2013/
Description and Scope
One of the key challenges in making use of Big Data lies in finding ways
of dealing with heterogeneity, diversity, and complexity of the data,
while its volume and velocity forbid solutions available for smaller
datasets as based, e.g., on manual curation or manual integration of
data. Semantic Web Technologies are meant to deal with these issues, and
indeed since the advent of Linked Data a few years ago, they have become
central to mainstream Semantic Web research and development. We can
easily understand Linked Data as being a part of the greater Big Data
landscape, as many of the challenges are the same. The linking component
of Linked Data, however, puts an additional focus on the integration and
conflation of data across multiple sources.
Workshop Topics
In this symposium, we will explore the many opportunities and challenges
arising from transferring and adapting Semantic Web Technologies to the
Big Data quest. Topics of interest focus explicitly on the interplay of
Semantics and Big Data, and include:
the use of semantic metadata and ontologies for Big Data,
the use of formal and informal semantics,
the integration and interplay of deductive (semantic) and
statistical methods,
methods to establish semantic interoperability between data sources
ways of dealing with semantic heterogeneity,
scalability of Semantic Web methods and tools, and
semantic approaches to the explication of requirements from
eScience applications.
Workshop Format, Submissions, and Proceedings
The symposium will be highly interactive with spotlight presentations
and small breakout groups interleaved with plenary sessions for reports
on the breakout groups and for consolidation of results. To prime and
channel discussions and group activities during the event, we call for
the submission of position papers or extended abstracts of 2-4 pages, or
of technical papers of 6-8 pages (in AAAI format). Please address
questions to Pascal Hitzler at pascal.hitzler(a)wright.edu.
Submissions shall be made through easychair at
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=s4bd13
by May 24th, 2013.
