International Workshop on Data Quality Management and Semantic Technologies
In conjunction with Sixth IEEE International Conference on Semantic
Computing (ICSC) 2012
September 19-21, 2012 Palermo, Italy.
http://www.ebusiness-unibw.org/DQMST2012/
**********************************************************
Deadline for paper submissions: 1st June, 2012
Background and Rational
=======================
Nowadays, Semantic Web applications have been used in a broad spectrum of
domains such as e-commerce, geography, biology, or the public sector. With
the development of semantic technologies, a huge amount of data is being
published on the Semantic Web. The published data are evolving into the
?Web of Data? that is available on web-scale for retrieval and reuse of
information. Considering the significant growth of data on the Semantic
Web, one of the key challenges is the management of data quality in the
Semantic Web. Moreover, the Semantic Web has brought up new technologies
that may be useful to improve data quality management in information
systems.
Over the last decade, data quality has become a critical factor to the
success of organizations. Numerous business initiatives have been delayed
or even cancelled due to poor data quality. Analogous to data in
information systems, Semantic Web data also suffers from quality problems
such as missing or false RDF data. In order to raise the level of trust in
the Semantic Web data, it is valuable to investigate data quality issues
in the context of the Semantic Web. Semantic technologies may provide new
solution options for data quality management. Therefore we believe that in
addition to applying previous data quality research on Semantic Web, there
are opportunities of finding new data quality models, frameworks,
methodologies, and applications by using semantic technologies.
The aim of this workshop is to bring the Semantic Web and Data Quality
research communities together and identify new innovative possibilities
for addressing data quality issues with semantic technologies. Moreover,
we aim to provide a platform for discussing approaches, models, results,
case studies, best practices, evaluation techniques, and implementation
tools that are related to data quality management within Semantic Web.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following list:
==================
? Data quality management approaches in Semantic Web
? Ontology usage in data quality management
? Linked Data quality management
? Semantic data integration
? Natural language processing for data quality management
? Managing Linked Data provenance
? SPARQL and data quality assessment
? Measuring data quality with semantic technologies
? Improving the quality of RDF data
? Semantic data quality model and framework
? Information value in Semantic Web
? Data governance in Semantic Web
? Semantic Web applications for data quality management
? Applications that assess, analyze, and improve semantic data quality

Subject: [AISWorld] 10th IEEE/IFIP EUC 2012: Call for
Workshop Proposals
Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2012 14:30:13 +0300
From: George Angelos Papadopoulos <george(a)cs.ucy.ac.cy>
To: undisclosed-recipients:;
*** Call for Workshop Proposals ***
*** Extended Deadline: 23rd April, 2012 ***
The 10th IEEE/IFIP International Conference on Embedded
and Ubiquitous
Computing (IEEE/IFIP EUC 2012)
http://www.euc2012.cs.ucy.ac.cy/
3-5 October 2012, Paphos, Cyprus
Embedded and ubiquitous computing is an exciting paradigm
that promises
to provide computing and communication services to the end
users all
the time and everywhere. Its systems are now invading in
every aspect
of our daily life and promise to revolutionize our life much
more
profoundly than elevators, electric motors or even personal
computer
evolution ever did. The emergence of this technology is a
natural
outcome of research and technological advances in a variety
of areas
including embedded systems, pervasive computing and
communications,
wireless networks, mobile computing, distributed computing
and agent
technologies.
EUC 2012 is the next event, in a series of highly successful
IEEE
International Conferences on Embedded and Ubiquitous
Computing. It will
hold multiple workshops co-located with the main conference.
We invite
you to submit workshop proposals to the Workshop Chairs. The
purpose of
these workshops is to offer researchers a good opportunity
to present
their work in a more focused way than the conference itself
and to
obtain feedback from an interested community. Workshop
organizers are
responsible for establishing a program committee, collecting and
evaluating submissions, notifying authors of acceptance or
rejection
in due time, ensuring a transparent and fair selection process,
organizing selected papers into sessions, and assigning
session chairs.
Proposals on emerging topics guaranteed to generate
significant interest
in the community will be selected.
A workshop proposal should contain at least:
- A draft call for papers, the workshop deadlines, names and
affiliations of organizers and tentative composition of the
committees, expected numbers of submissions and accepted
papers.
- Prior history of this workshop, if any. Please include:
number of
submissions, number of accepted papers, and attendee count.
All workshops should maintain the same quality as the main
conference.
All accepted papers will be included in the same conference
proceedings
published by IEEE. Please submit your proposal to the
Workshops Chair
Dr. Xu Li (xu.li(a)inria.fr <mailto:xu.li@inria.fr>).
Important Dates
Submission deadline: April 23, 2012
Acceptance Notification: April 25, 2012
Once accepted, the workshop should establish its own paper
submission
system (however, for compatibility purposes we recommend
Easy Chair).
Each paper selected for inclusion in the proceedings must be
registered
for EUC 2012 at the same registration rates. Each paper must be
presented in person by the author, or one of the authors.
All the papers
in the EUC 2012 workshops will be published in the IEEE
conference
proceedings, in the same proceedings of EUC 2012, and will
be made
available to all conference registrants on site. All
workshop papers
will also be electronically available through IEEE Xplore
Digital
Database, and professionally indexed through INSPEC and EI
Index. The
accepted workshops can decide their own submission deadlines
but must
follow the same camera-ready deadline and registration
deadline as the
EUC 2012 main conference.
Please organize your workshop as early as possible to ensure
your
efforts turn out to be fruitful. For further information on
preparing

*/Computer-based Knowledge & Skill Assessment and Feedback
in Learning Settings (CAF)/*
http://www.iicm.edu/CAF2012
This special track will take place during ICL 2012 in in
Villach, Austria (26 - 28 September 2012) as a special
programme item.
/The Special Track CAF 2012/provides an interdisciplinary
forum for international scientists and practitioners to
discuss various aspects of computer-based knowledge & skill
assessment in learning settings and based on that feedback
provision for students and teachers. This year CAF is
organized in cooperation with the European funded project
ALICE (Adaptive Learning via Intuitive/Interactive,
Collaborative and Emotional System), http://www.aliceproject.eu.
The /International Conference on Interactive Computer aided
Learning (ICL)/ is an interdisciplinary conference which
aims to focus on the exchange of relevant trends and
research results as well as the presentation of practical
experiences in interactive computer aided learning.
*Background*
Our modern life at the beginning of the 21st century is
strongly influenced by effects such as rapidly changing and
developing information, technology-enhanced communication
and information access, and new forms of production and
services in a globalized world. This situation requires
individuals to adapt their skills and competencies.
Consequently, educational objectives and societal
expectations have changed significantly in recent years.
Modern learning settings must consider learning community
aspects as well as learner-centered, knowledge-centered and
assessment-centered aspects.
By focusing on the assessment, this concept can be further
distinguished in (1) summative assessment, performed at the
end of a set of learning activities, and (2) formative
assessment, which is intended to give continuous feedback to
students and teachers. The latter mentioned formative
assessment gives information about the current state of
knowledge and/or the degree of knowledge acquisition within
learning activities.
Assessment is an important component of modern teaching and
learning processes in face-to-face courses as well as in
e-learning environments; it provides valuable feedback to
teachers and students which allows the revision and
adaptation of teaching and learning activities. Furthermore,
assessment activities and results can also be utilized for
building and strengthening metacognitive skills. However,
continuous and frequent assessment in learning processes may
cause excessive efforts and costs. Therefore,
computer-assisted assessment systems (CaAS) and
computer-based assessment systems (CbAS) have become of
increasing interest over the years. Assessment systems may
support parts or the entire chain of the assessment
lifecycle. This lifecycle includes authoring and management
of assessment items, compilation of specific tests,
performance of assessments, and compilation and management
results. Additionally, emerging interest in the sharing and
re-use of assessment items or compiled assessment tests and
the exchangeability of assessment outcomes has resulted in
standardization efforts, such as the IMS Question & Test
Interoperability Specification (IMS QTI).
The special track will bring together international
researchers as well as practitioners from different
organisations who will have plenty of time for networking
and real-world knowledge sharing.
CAF is interested in novel scientific research, findings
from experiments and results from real-life applications. We
invite submissions that deal with issues including, but not
limited to:
* Aspects of formative and summative assessment
* History and challenges of e-assessment
* Computer-supported assessment rubric

CALL FOR PAPERS
Forty-Sixth Annual Hawai'i International Conference on System Sciences
(HICSS-46)
January 7 - 10, 2013 (Monday-Thursday)
Grand Walea on Maui (http://www.grandwailea.com)
Track: Knowledge Systems
Minitrack: Integrating Knowledge and Learning Processes
This minitrack discusses knowledge management (KM) from an integrated perspective, i.e., the integration of knowledge management, learning, and business processes. It mainly focuses on two issues: a) how can knowledge, learning and business processes be integrated, and b) how can the related systems be integrated to enable an efficient workflow. Currently, even less learning environments take the context and the environment into account. Using mobile and ubiquitous technologies can lead to a paradigm shift in the construction of such learning environments: from static to highly contextualized knowledge and learning experiences. Based on the integration of knowledge and learning systems into social networks and social media applications, formal and informal collaborative interactions will further enhance this effect. This minitrack focuses on the adoption and diffusion of corresponding approaches: How can knowledge, learning and business processes as well as the related systems be designed and interrelated for successful adoption and diffusion? This is the minitrack’s leading question.
Topics and research areas include, but are not limited to:
* Integrating knowledge, learning and business processes as well as respective systems
* Using social networks and social media applications for KM and e-learning integration
* Contextualization, e.g. location-based services, mobile solutions, internationalization
* Usage, adoption, and success of integrated KM and learning systems
* Determining and measuring Return on Education (RoE)
* Concepts for competence-based learning
* Approaches for self-directed learning
* Concepts for open educational resources (OER)
* Implementations and case studies of integrated KM and learning systems
The minitrack should lead to comprehensive insights into integrated knowledge and learning solutions, bringing together researchers and practitioners interested in combining findings from two different fields. The content ranges from scientific approaches via prototypical implementations up to field reports. We encourage contributions addressing technology-oriented as well as human-oriented approaches.
