Dear Gustaf Neumann,
The International Conference on Knowledge Management and Information Sharing (KMIS 2012 - http://www.kmis.ic3k.org/) has an open call for papers, whose deadline is scheduled for April 17, 2012. We hope you can participate in this conference by submitting a paper reflecting your current research.
KMIS 2012 will be held in Barcelona, Spain, October 4 - 7, 2012.
The conference will be sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and held in cooperation with the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). INSTICC is Member of the Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents (FIPA), Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC) and Object Management Group (OMG).
Knowledge Management (KM) is a discipline concerned with the analysis and technical support of practices used in an organization to identify, create, represent, distribute and enable the adoption and leveraging of good practices embedded in collaborative settings and, in particular, in organizational processes. Effective knowledge management is an increasingly important source of competitive advantage, and a key to the success of contemporary organizations, bolstering the collective expertise of its employees and partners.
Information Sharing (IS) is a term used for a long time in the information technology (IT) lexicon, related to data exchange, communication protocols and technological infrastructures. Although standardization is indeed an essential element for sharing information, IS effectiveness requires going beyond the syntactic nature of IT and delve into the human functions involved in the semantic, pragmatic and social levels of organizational semiotics.
The two areas are intertwined as information sharing is the foundation for knowledge management.
KMIS 2012 is co-located with two related conferences in a joint conference (IC3K - http://www.ic3k.org/) format, namely:
- Knowledge Discovery and Information Retrieval (http://www.kdir.ic3k.org/)
- Knowledge Engineering and Ontology Development (http://www.keod.ic3k.org/)
Registration to one conference allows free access to all conferences.
KMIS is interested in promoting high quality research as it can be confirmed by last year acceptance rates, where from 134 submissions, 8% were accepted as full papers. Additionally, 21% were presented as short papers and 17% as posters.
Submitted papers will be subject to a double-blind review process. All accepted papers (full, short and posters) will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, on paper and on CD-ROM support. CKEI
A short list of presented papers will be selected so that revised and extended versions of these papers will be published by Springer-Verlag in a CCIS Series book.
The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), INSPEC, DBLP and EI (Elsevier Index).
All papers presented at the conference venue will be available at the SciTePress Digital Library (http://www.scitepress.org/DigitalLibrary/). SciTePress is member of CrossRef (http://www.crossref.org/).
Best paper awards will be distributed during the conference closing session. Please check the website for further information (http://www.kmis.ic3k.org/BestPaperAward.aspx).
Workshops, Special Sessions, Tutorials as well as Demonstrations dedicated to other technical/scientific topics are also envisaged: companies interested in presenting their products/methodologies or researchers interested in holding a tutorial are invited to contact the conference secretariat. Workshop chairs and Special Session chairs will benefit from logistics support and other types of support, including secretariat and financial support, to facilitate the development of a valid idea.
Please check further details at the KMIS conference website (http://www.kmis.ic3k.org/).
Should you have any question please don't hesitate contacting me.
Kind regards,
Vera Coelho

*We invite you to submit an abstract for a proposed paper in the area of
Information Systems for ISD2012 (21st International Systems Development
Conference) to be held on 29-31August 2012 in Prato, Italy.
Sustainability has several meanings, with the dominant meaning referring
to the natural ecological and environmental domains. Green IT relatively
recently became a popular topic at conferences and in publications.
While this is an important issue, sustainability may also refer to the
maintenance of the complex weave of social systems. Again there is a
very wide range of meanings of what "social systems" means, but for the
purpose of this track, social ecology would be the focus.
Information Systems (IS) theory traditionally focuses on IS for
organizations, typically business organizations, assuming all other
kinds of social organizations (such as government organizations and
non-government organizations) to be variants of business systems. The PC
itself was developed as a business tool, and only over the past two
decades with its ability to handle multimedia also became a tool for
entertainment. Over the past decade the networked PC became a powerful
tool also in personal communication and private socialization in the
form of the so-called social media. The rise into prominence of the PC
as a tool of entertainment, communication and social media put
information systems in the hands of individuals for the use of
non-business purposes - i.e. for non-structured or semi-structured
social organizations and personal use. The recent mobilization of
non-structured socio-political gatherings on the Mediterranean and in
the Middle East were made possible by social media technology; while
citizen pressure groups use social media to get their voices heard,
demonstrated by the several million objections early in 2012 against the
proposed Antipiracy Bills in the USA. What is the impact of such
non-formal social groups and individual use on the design and
construction of information systems? Should design be about
Human-Computer-Interface (HCI), or about Human-Human Communication
(HHC), facilitated by technology? Similar questions were recently posed
at other conferences, eg. the Interaction conference -
http://www.siliconrepublic.com/new-media/item/25639-in-interaction-design/
The PC is no longer the dominant device for entertainment, personal
communication and private socialization purposes. Mobile phone
distribution has surpassed the PC in 2010 in market-share. The prominent
past view of the client-server model, where client meant PC, has changed
to a model where client now means mobile device - either mobile phone or
tablet. Do the same principles of IS developed for the PC still apply?
Ecologically, sustainability has global implications. If social
sustainability also implies global social sustainability, all societies
and the complex web of international networks (technological as well as
social) need to be considered. IS systems in the developing world, which
makes up the majority of people on this planet, thus also need to be
considered. However, distribution of network infrastructure in the
developing world is poor, while most commerce takes place in the
informal business sector and on the level of micro businesses. In
addition, the mobile market dominates the PC market by far in the
developing world. With its emphasis on formal organizational IS, which
meant business and mostly big business, and at best medium-sized
businesses, there is not much research in IS circles on information
systems for micro-organizations and micro-businesses. IS research also
typically assumes 24/7 broadband connectivity, which is hard to come by
in the developing world. So how does cloud computing apply in this
environment? And how should IS be designed for this environment?
Since the discipline of IS was introduced some time ago, the world has
changed in the ways described above. What are the implications of this
trend for future IS research and for principles to build sustainable IS?
Do we need different theories and models for mobile systems,
micro-organizations, individuals, social groups, and the developing
world? Does /status quo/IS hold? These are the questions to be addressed
in this track. Briefly then, what are the design implications for IS in
the long-term outcome of these trends and events? Should information
systems consider expanding the scope of the field, or can the existing
IS conceptual tools deal with this?

3rd International Workshop
Fostering Social Interactions in the Ageing Society: Designing for
Inter/Generational Communities
http://fosible.eu/coop2012-workshop/
29 Mai, Marseille, France
New workshop submission deadline: 1 April 2012
********************************************
Ageing societies call for innovative and sustainable concepts to enable
elderly adults to manage their everyday life in a highly self-determined
and independent way. Research from different fields, such as CSCW, HCI,
and AAL (Ambient Assisted Living), has recognized the big challenges for
this field, especially in the domain of medical and care oriented
support systems. Thus, a lot of innovative products have emerged that
aim to support or improve health-related problems in an ageing society.
However, what has been somewhat neglected so far, is what we would call
the 'social side' of health and well-being - and with this a perspective
on the socio-technical embedding of assistive and communication
technologies. That's why this workshop takes on a community-oriented
perspective to designing ICT for elderly adults.
This workshop will be a follow-up activity on two previous workshops at
ECSCW 2009 and ECSCW 2011. The workshop is aimed at researchers involved
in previous workshops, but also other researchers interested in
socio-technical ICT design for the elderly. The previous workshops
focused on fostering social interaction and on reconsidering common
research methodologies, technological solutions and research paradigms.
A first roadmap for future ICT research on fostering social interactions
for an ageing society has been started. The aim of the following COOP'12
workshop is to continue with a focus on designing for inter/generational
communities.
The workshop aims at gathering research on ICT for inter/generational
communities from different perspectives:
- Social/ Interactive TV, also concerned with the design of innovative
input devices for elderly persons. Here, the bandwidth is from
easy-to-use remote controls over intelligent furniture to other
interactive devices in the home, such as interactive picture frames.
- Social media for social support, such as online communities with
special focus on social support for the elderly.
- Social technologies supporting awareness as well as other technologies
such as smart environments, playful interaction technologies as well as
games supporting social interaction.
Contributions are welcomed on such topics as:
- Analysis and design of community systems fostering social interactions
in an ageing society.
- Ethnographic studies on people at home in an ageing society.
- Analysis and design of technology-supported environments at home such
as Social TV systems, SmartHomes and SmartFurnitures.
- Approaches to playful experiences and games for elderly or in
inter-generational environments.
- Design and evaluation of awareness support.
- Studies on appropriation within communities and home environments.
- Design of software contributing to formulate virtual
inter/generational communities.
- Living Lab and real-life, longitudinal oriented approaches to
designing and evaluating social systems.
- Usage studies of home-based social media applications by elderly people.

der/die Zukunft
42. Jahrestagung der Gesellschaft für Informatik
16.09. – 21.09.2012
TU Braunschweig
http:// goto.uni-kassel.de/subico2012
Zielsetzung
===========
Gestaltung kontextsensitiver, adaptiver Softwaresysteme.
unterschiedlichen Disziplinen (Software Engineering, Systems
===============
folgende Themen ansprechen:
- Basistechniken des Ubiquitous Computing
o Kontextsensitivität als Grundlage ubiquitärer Anwendungen
o Adaptivität mobiler und ubiquitärer Anwendungen
o Wissensentdeckung
- Kollektive Intelligenz in UC-Anwendungen
o Unzuverlässige/Unsichere Sensornetzwerke
o Rolle des Menschen in der kollektiven Intelligenz (wisdom of
the crowd, group memory)
o Aufkommende Technologien und Anwendungen
- Sozialverträgliche IT-Gestaltung
o Interaktionskonzepte und Benutzerschnittstellen
o Akzeptanz und Vertrauen in neue IT-Systeme
o Rechtliche Anforderungen in der Systementwicklung
o gesellschaftliche Auswirkungen ubiquitärer Systeme
o Ethik in der Technikgestaltung
- Entwicklungsmethoden & Werkzeuge zur Gestaltung ubiquitärer Systeme
- Anwendungsbeispiele

_Workshop Background and Goals_
Information Systems Security is one of the most pressing challenges
facing all kinds of organizations today. Although many companies have
discovered how critical information is to the success of their business
or operations, very few have managed to be effective in maintaining
their information secure, avoiding unauthorized access, preventing
intrusions, stopping secret information disclosure, etc.
There are various definitions of security, but all of them basically
agree on the same components. Security in information systems considers
the protection of information and of the systems that manage it, against
a wide range of threats in order to ensure business continuity, minimize
risks and maximize the return on investment and business opportunities.
Security is, therefore, currently a widespread and growing concern that
covers all areas of society: business, domestic, financial, government,
and so on. In fact, the so-called information society is increasingly
dependent on a wide range of software systems whose mission is critical,
such as air traffic control systems, financial systems, or public health
systems. The potential losses that are faced by businesses and
organizations that rely on all these systems, both hardware and
software, therefore signify that it is crucial for information systems
to be properly secured from the outset.
With the increasing dependence that the information society has on
Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the need to protect
information is increasingly important for companies. The demand for
products, systems and services with which to manage and maintain
information is therefore increasing, and the realization of superficial
security controls is not sufficient. It is necessary to apply a rigorous
approach to the assessing and improvement of the security of products
and processes that take place in the context of ICT. This has led to the
emergence of Information Security Management Systems (ISMS), which are
of great importance to the stability of companies' information systems.
In this new edition of WOSIS, the traditional information systems
security topics will remain but we want explicitly focus the workshop on
one of the most important issues and currently considered as it is
security in Cloud computing. Although there are many benefits to
adopting cloud computing, there are also some significant barriers to
adoption as is security followed by issues regarding compliance, privacy
and legal matters. Security is the main obstacle for many organizations
in their move to the cloud, related to risk areas such as external data
storage, dependency on the "public" internet, multi-tenancy and
integration with internal security. The objective of this new edition is
to contribute to the study and analysis of solutions and approaches
which help to achieve and facilitate the level of security needed for
such distributed environments and that its adoption is not any problem
for the society, administration and enterprise.

Call for Papers
Information Systems and e-Business Management (ISeB)
Special Issue on Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM)
Deadline: April 1, 2012

*Guest Editors*
Kai Fischbach (University of Bamberg, Germany)
Christine Legner (HEC Lausanne, Switzerland)
Robert Winter (University of St. Gallen, Switzerland)
*Theme*
The complexity of corporate information technology (IT) environments has been steadily growing in the last decades, and keeping pace with an ever-changing business environment has become a constant challenge. In response, architectural considerations have become a key concern in today's information management. It is acknowledged that only continuous and holistic management of the Enterprise Architecture (EA) can ensure the sustainability, agility, and strategic alignment of corporate IT environments.
Enterprise architecture management (EAM) has evolved as a discipline, beginning in the 1990s. Early work centered on architecture models, principles, and standards that comprise the content of the EA. As companies gain practical experience implementing EA concepts, they become more concerned with the management aspects in EAM, the effectiveness of EAM and its success factors. Despite a growing body of EA-related knowledge, different definitions of EAM coexist, ranging from enterprise-wide IT management to enterprise development and transformation. Correspondingly, researchers have identified substantial differences with respect to the objectives followed, the methodology employed, and the organizational implementation of EAM in practice. This has stimulated studies related to EAM adoption scenarios and situational aspects of EAM implementation. Still, though, EAM is a relatively young and immature discipline, characterized by a great variety of research approaches and a strong focus on conceptual frameworks and models. Until recently, theoretically rounded research on EAM practice has been rather limited.
With this special issue, the journal Information Systems and e-Business Management seeks to stimulate EAM research. We invite original submissions of novel research that advances our understanding of EAM as a management discipline. We are open to all types of contributions, including conceptual, design-oriented, and theory-building papers. We encourage authors to submit contributions that are lively and will inspire readers from both academia and industry.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following.
1) The EAM discipline and its relationship to other management disciplines (e.g., strategic management, organizational development, IT management).
2) Specific EAM application contexts (e.g., IT/business alignment, business transformation, M&A, outsourcing).
3) EAM strategy (EAM positioning and goals, EAM services/"products," communication and stakeholder involvement).
4) Conceptualizing EAM (e.g., meta models, roadmaps, specific architectures such as business architecture).
5) EAM organization and governance (e.g., processes, organizational roles, monitoring, and key performance indicators).
6) EAM tool support and EAM-related standards.
7) Organizational implementation of EAM (e.g., situational adaptation).
8) EAM adoption and success.
9) EAM value (metrics, funding, and charging).
10) Innovative EAM case studies

Dear Colleagues,
If you are teaching or plan to teach in the fields of decision support
systems, business intelligence, or analytics, please consider contributing
to our teaching track in the upcoming pre-ICIS BI Congress 3
(http://www2.commerce.virginia.edu/bic3/index.asp)
The formal call for contributions is as follows:
====================================================================
Today's students expect relevant, innovative, and real-world classroom
experiences. However, it is challenging for academics to stay abreast of
changes and trends in technology, especially in the analytics field, to be
able to teach effectively and meet student expectations. This track seeks
teaching cases and pedagogical materials to better educate future knowledge
workers by providing them knowledge and skills in DSS, BI, and Analytics.
Both vendor-neutral and vendor-specific pedagogical content is welcome.
Selected submissions will be presented within the Teaching Track sessions.
All submissions to the track will be considered for a BI Congress Innovation
in Pedagogy Award, to be presented at BI Congress 3. All accepted Teaching
Track submissions will be featured on the Teradata University Network (TUN),
a peer-reviewed outlet. In addition, select high quality submissions (e.g.,
teaching cases) will be fast-tracked to targeted journals.
All accepted papers will be published in the BI Congress 3 conference
proceedings and on the TUN website. Authors will retain copyright ownership.
Teaching Track Submissions:
Focus of the teaching track is on sharing material and pedagogical
experiences in a workshop-like setting. Authors are encouraged to submit
material related to DSS/BI/Analytics courses at introductory or advanced
level that fits into the following categories:
. Pedagogical materials include any kind of content that can be used for
teaching DSS/BI/Analytics. They should be accompanied with a short
description or teaching note that explains how to apply the materials, in
sufficient detail to allow the reader to replicate it in the classroom.
Pedagogical materials can include:
o Syllabus
o Class assignment or exam
o Class project
o An innovative approach to delivering DSS/BI/Analytics content
o Best practices in delivering DSS/BI/Analytics content
o Data sets that can be used by other faculty to augment their pedagogy
o Hands-on software experiences and software tutorials
o Creative applications of Teradata University Network resources
. Teaching case studies that can be used to enhance student learning about
specific concepts/topics such as illustrating an organizational application
and lessons learned. Teaching cases should provide rich stories of
individual organizations' management and technological initiatives,
illustrating a specific message of interest to DSS/BI/Analytics instructors.
These papers will not only tell the story, but also provide analyses of the
events and their outcomes. A teaching case should be accompanied by a brief
(e.g., one page) teaching note.
Paper Formatting Guidelines:
Please use the ICIS submission guidelines to the best of your ability.
Teaching Cases should follow the guidelines for ICIS teaching case
submissions; Pedagogical materials can be adapted to meet the needs of the
content.
Submission Process:
1. Prepare manuscript using ICIS paper formatting guidelines (as well as
possible).
2. Email submissions to: Ozgur Turetken (turetken(a)ryerson.ca) or Babita
Gupta (bgupta(a)csumb.edu) by September 1, 2012.
3. Receive notification via e-mail by October 1, 2012.
4. If accepted, make any final improvements and submit final paper by
November 1, 2012.
