If you are interested in organizing a workshop, please reply to this email with a proposal by no later than March 31, 2011. *** Call for Workshops *** The 13th IEEE Conference on Commerce and Enterprise Computing (CEC' 11) (http://www.tudor.lu/cec2011) will be held at the Henri Tudor Research Center in Luxembourg, September 5-7, 2011. The conference aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from different disciplines to explore and address recent developments and research issues on e-commerce, enterprise computing, security and developments in the area of social networks. The CEC' 11 Organizing Committee invites proposals for workshops to be presented at the 2011 Conference on Commerce and Enterprise Computing (CEC' 11). The workshops will be held on the first day of the conference, September 5, 2011, at the conference site. Workshop proposals should be submitted as outlined below. CEC' 11 workshops provide organizers and participants with an opportunity to focus intensively on a specific topic related to the conference scope. Often, workshops concentrate on an emerging topic of technical interest, unique area of application for enterprise computing, or a community-wide issue that deserves specialized attention. Workshop proposals should provide sufficient information to evaluate the quality and importance of the topic, the goals of the workshop, and the size of the interested community. Proposals should identify one or more chairs and several other individuals willing to serve on an organizing committee and assist with publicity and reviewing. Proposals should be 2- 4 pages and contain at least the following information: * Description What will the workshop be about? Where is the relation to topics addressed in the CEC' 10 conference? * Goals What do you expect will come out of the workshop? How will the workshop change participants' understanding of the area? * Format How will the workshop sessions be scheduled? How much time will be used for discussion, panel discussions, paper presentations, invited talks, or other methods for encouraging communication and consensus? Organizers are encouraged to focus on mechanisms other than traditional paper presentations and to differentiate themselves clearly from typical conference sessions. * Publicity How do you intend to publicize the workshop? However, newer forms of interaction via social networks such as Facebook and location-based technologies such as Foursquare mesh the private and public information of individuals in ways that are both powerful and perturbing. One might find a close friend at a coffee shop during a Saturday afternoon stroll that leads to good cappuccino and conversation. Or one might find someone checking in too often near your child's school. Whatever the case, users are voluntarily submitting personal information, tracking themselves, and forming loose associations of people either without considering or caring of potential security and privacy implications. Sure, there is the occasional news report of Facebook exposing personal data with some new feature that a user must lock down, Firesheep stealing personal cookies and hijacking connections in open Wi-Fi locations, or lax Twitter security causing a privacy breach. But once the dust settles, just as many, or more, people are using these technologies as before to connect, collaborate, and converse. ***Importance and Relevance*** Although we must continue to educate users on social network usage, we must also look to create usable socio-technical solutions that will enable used to ensure security and track their privacy leakage. This mini-track looks for studies, models, architectures, or technologies that will enable security and/or privacy protection policies, procedures, and mechanisms to be implemented within the ever growing space of social network offerings. Organizations use it to grow into strong economic entities; people create and share ideas via e-mail, message boards, and video sites; and focused communities allow individuals to enrich their lives via collaborative knowledge building, formal education, and strong mentoring relationships. No other technology has entrenched itself faster and more thoroughly into our society than the Internet. However, with all of the benefits, we have yet to address the many challenges. Connecting into the vast information highway to partake of its potential also allows cybervandals to hijack connections, steal information, or simply fill one's inbox with snake oil cures. Although we do need to address the technological solutions necessary to decrease spam, stop botnets, and minimize malware, we must also look at the potential of developing interactions that will allow for increased trustworthiness among infrastructure and service providers, as well as the people and organizations who use them. Moreover we must develop ecosystems that will promote sustainable growth by promoting the desire to improve and participate in this global system. ***Importance and Relevance*** Designing, creating, and fostering increased Internet growth while promoting competitiveness, security, and economic benefits in imperative to cultivating system growth and innovation. But the vast majority of strategic initiatives in enterprises fail, meaning that enterprises are unable to gain success from their strategy. Abundant research indicates that the key reason for strategic failures is the lack of coherence and consistency among the various components of an enterprise. At the same time, the need to operate as a unified and integrated whole is becoming increasingly important. These challenges are dominantly addressed from a functional or managerial perspective, as advocated by management and organization science. Such knowledge is necessary and sufficient for managing an enterprise, but it is inadequate for bringing about changes. To do that, one needs to take a constructional or engineering perspective. Both organizations and software systems are complex and prone to entropy. This means that in the course of time, the costs of bringing about similar changes increase in a way that is known as combinatorial explosion. Regarding (automated) information systems, this has been demonstrated; regarding organizations, it is still a conjecture. Entropy can be reduced and managed effectively through modular design based on atomic elements. The people in an enterprise are collectively responsible for the operation (including management) of the enterprise. In addition, they are collectively responsible for the evolution of the enterprise (adapting to needs for change). These responsibilities can only be borne if one has appropriate knowledge of the enterprise. Focus and Goal -------------- The Enterprise Engineering Working Conference is the first working conference in the emerging field of Enterprise Engineering with the goal to gather academics and practitioners in order to share innovative research issues and practical experiences, and to facilitate profound discussions about challenges mentioned above. Addressing these challenges requires a paradigm shift. It is the mission of the discipline of Enterprise Engineering to develop new, appropriate theories, models, methods and other artifacts for the analysis, design, implementation, and governance of enterprises by combining (relevant parts of) management and organization science, information systems science, and computer science. The ambition is to address (all) traditional topics in said disciplines from the Enterprise Engineering Paradigm. The result of the efforts should be theoretically rigorous and practically relevant. We are looking for articles on current or recently finished research projects as well as articles from practitioners. Based on our inspiring experience of the 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010 workshops, the Enterprise Engineering Working Conference is planned to be a real working conference, providing ample time for profound discussions during two days. The focus of discussion will be on the emerging discipline of enterprise engineering, in particular according to the Enterprise Engineering Manifesto (www.ciaonetwork.org/publications/EEManifesto.pdf). Publication ----------- The EEWC proceedings will be published in the Springer LNBIP series "Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing". The authors of the best papers will be invited to submit an extended version of the paper for possible publication at the International Journal of Information System Modeling and Design (www.igi-global.com/ijism). Submission Conditions --------------------- Papers should be submitted in PDF format. The results described must be unpublished and must not be under review elsewhere. Submissions must conform to Springer's LNBIP format and should not exceed 15 pages, including all text, figures, references and appendices.
