Betreff: [AISWorld] CFP: Special issue of IJEP on "e-Business and the
Politics of Poverty Alleviation"

********************* CALL FOR PAPERS *********************
SPECIAL ISSUE ON E-Business and the Politics of Poverty Alleviation for
International Journal of E-Politics (IJEP)
SUBMISSION DUE DATE: Friday, April 2, 2010
Guest Editors:
Lakshmi Iyer, University of North Carolina at Greensboro
Babita Gupta, California State University Monterey Bay
INTRODUCTION:
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), specifically emerging
Internet-based technologies, increase the potential for e-Business to
help alleviate poverty. First and foremost, it can get much needed
information to the people in the form of market information, health
information, and government service information. This information can
help people improve their economic status. For example, farmers using an
SMS service can get real-time market prices for their goods and with
that information, they can negotiate better price through their
intermediaries. Second, e-Business can open up markets by increasing
access. Farmers can be linked to world commodity markets and artisans
to international buyers through e-commerce sites. While traditional
methods of poverty alleviation rely on job creation through temporary
employment, job creation through internet-based initiatives could be
strengthened. In addition, market expansion through the Internet can
help create more jobs.
Government initiatives that embrace use of the Internet can also help
alleviate poverty. Online access to government provides a single source
for services. Thus, people seeking these services do not have to travel
from one government department to another to get help. These government
initiatives can also increase government transparency, which can fight
corruption and break down barriers to job creation. In both developed
and developing nations, alleviation of poverty involves redistribution
of wealth to improve conditions of underserved populations. While the
intrinsic objectives of this notion are altruistic in nature, the
politics surrounding redistribution of wealth is an important political
issue. While there is much potential for e-Business to alleviate
poverty, research linking the two is scarce.
OBJECTIVE OF THE SPECIAL ISSUE: The objective of the special issue is to
seek research papers that focus on the topic of E-Business and the
Politics of Poverty Alleviation. Topics to be discussed in this special
issue include (but are not limited to) the following:
• Applications and technologies (mobile telephony, PCs, the
Internet) that are effective in reducing poverty
• Behavioral issues (of different stakeholder groups)
regardinge-Business and poverty alleviation
• Case studies on e-Business and poverty alleviation
• Critical success factors for e-Business and poverty alleviation
• Education or awareness-increasing mechanisms
• Evaluation or metrics to measure e-Business and poverty
alleviation programs
• Governance and regulation surrounding e-Business and poverty
alleviation
• Impact of national cultures on e-Business and poverty alleviation
• Impact of politics on strategies for e-Business and poverty
alleviation
• Political dynamics of stakeholders involved in e-Business
poverty alleviation
• Process-centric vs. customer-centric approaches to poverty
alleviation using e-Business
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this
special theme issue on e-Business and Poverty Alleviation on or before
April 2, 2010. All submissions must be original and may not be under
review by another publication. INTERESTED AUTHORS SHOULD CONSULT THE
JOURNAL’S GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at
http://www.igi-global.com/development/author_info/guidelines%20submission.p….
All submitted papers will be reviewed on a double-blind, peer review
basis. Papers must follow APA style for reference citations.

Practical Aspects of Knowledge Management: PAKM 2010
====================================================
November 10-12, 2010 Philadelphia - USA
The Eighth Conference on
Practical Aspects of Knowledge Management
_http://www.ischool.drexel.edu/PAKM2010/_
************* FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS *************
Submission due 7 April 2010
Conference: 10 to 12 November 2010
Workshops: 10 November 2010
Scientific Program: 11-12 November 2010
AIMS AND SCOPE
==============
The PAKM Conference Series offers a communication forum and meeting
ground for practitioners and researchers. The conference focus is on
developing and deploying advanced business solutions for the management
of knowledge in organizations and other communities that can benefit
from its methods.
This year's conference we will pay particular attention to the
innovations on the interaction between Business, Computer Science,
Information Systems, and Library and Information Science.
PAKM is a forum for people to share their views, to exchange novel
ideas, to develop new insights, and to envision, propose and demonstrate
new kinds of solutions and new organizational methods and/or tools to
Knowledge Management problems.
Management in companies deals with many things: people, energy,
materials, etc. The management integrates them as a whole system and
organizes the flow between the parts efficiently. In some companies, the
same is done with knowledge. What methods are available and how well
this integration of knowledge is understood?
Libraries and universities are examples of organizations where knowledge
plays a major role within management. What methods are available to
integrate knowledge (e.g., curricula, expertise, centers of excellence,
programs) with people and other resources in libraries and universities?
The topics will cover relevant and applicable aspects of knowledge
management. We invite practitioners and researchers from all over the
world to submit papers. We are looking forward to a conference which
will address a wide spectrum of topics from a variety of perspectives.
We seek original contributions in the business and organization
sciences, cognitive science, library and information science,
information systems and computer science that represent a true
advancement beyond the state-of-the-art of Knowledge Management.
Business and organization sciences provide the overall framework for
developing a knowledge management approach with a focus on the business
aspects rather than on information technology aspects.
Computer science provides the tools needed to build the information
systems that are often required to make certain aspects of a knowledge
management solution work. Cognitive science helps to design knowledge
management solutions in line with the cognitive capabilities of the
people involved and optimally embedded in their work context.
Library and information science analyzes how to organize and understand
knowledge for the benefit of the users.
IMPORTANT DATES

Barely more than ten years after the birth of the World Wide Web, the Global Information Infrastructure is daily reality. In spite of the many applications in all domains of our societies: e-business, e-commerce, e-learning, e-science, and e-government, for instance, and in spite of the tremendous advances by engineers and scientists, the seamless integration of information and services remains a major challenge. The current shared vision for the future is one of semantically rich information and service oriented architecture for global information systems. This vision is at the convergence of progress in technologies such as XML, Web services, RDF, OWL, of multimedia, multimodal, and multilingual information retrieval, and of distributed, mobile and ubiquitous computing.
The goal of iiWAS2010 is to provide an international forum for scientists, engineers, and managers in academia, industry, and government to address recent research results and to present and discuss their ideas, theories, technologies, systems, tools, applications, work in progress and experiences on all theoretical and practical issues arising in information and service integration.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Workshop "EUD4Services"
May 25, 2010 -- Rome, Italy -- In conjunction with AVI 2010
www.eud4services.org<http://www.eud4services.org>
====================================================================
** Our apologies if you receive multiple copies of this announcement **
** Please pass this CfP to interested colleagues **
EUD4Services:
Workshop on End-User Development of Software Services and
Applications
End-User Development (EUD) has traditionally been focusing on
non-programmers tailoring or even creating software artifacts, often in
organisational context. EUD research covers methods, techniques, and
tools that allow users of software systems, who are acting as
non-professional software developers, at some point to create, modify or
extend a software artifact.
Some of the more traditional examples of successful EUD concepts include
spreadsheet and word processing macros and the specification of email
filters by means of rules. Some recent developments have renewed
interest in EUD research and applications. For example, Web 2.0 and the
Semantic Web enable users to be contributors rather than just consumers
of information on the WWW. EUD-style applications can now move beyond
the corporate context and into the consumer domain, where mass
customization and personalization are now possible.
Some "best practice" examples of applying mass customization and
personalization with healthy business models have drawn again attention
to EUD. This trend is now moving from content and personalization to
functionality in the direction of user-generated web services. For
example Facebook users can share and develop applications as well as
content, and Yahoo!Pipes allows users to customize and develop fairly
sophisticated information processing applications using visual pipes and
filters.
This renewed interest is also evidenced by the increasing number of
large-scale projects focusing on these recent trends, for example
SOA4All, MyMobileWeb, FAST, EzWeb, ServFace. However, these come from
technology perspective, and the interactions between these and the
community of EUD researchers are very accidental. The proposed workshop
is trying to remedy this and create a regular forum for discussion and
fruitful cross-fertilisation of ideas between the communities underlying
these two aspects: software services, human-computer interaction,
software engineering, artificial intelligence, computer-supported
cooperative work and innovation management. Contributions from these
types of professionals are welcome to the workshop, which will integrate
dissemination of cutting-edge research results with trend-setting
discussions.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
* Empirical studies of EUD practices, especially those focused on
service development and composition.
* Service Interfaces and Interaction technologies for EUD
* Metaphors for software and service modularisation
* Requirements for EUD in service context
* Service System Architectures for EUD
* EUD as part of software infrastructuring
* EUD for specific types of devices
* EUD in specific fields of application
* EUD for user groups with specific needs
* Education concepts to foster EUD for services
* Business models of EUD for services
WORKSHOP ORGANIZATION
The workshop will last one day. The first part of the workshop will be

2nd CALL FOR PAPERS
DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM
at the 10th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies
http://www.ask4research.info/icalt/2010/doctoral_consortium.php
Sousse, Tunisia
July 5-7, 2010
***Deadline for submissions: February 16, 2010***
What is the Doctoral Consortium?
********************************
The Doctoral Consortium is a workshop for Ph.D. students from all over
the world who are in the early phases of their dissertation work (i.e.,
in their first or second year). The goal of the Doctoral Consortium is
to help students with their thesis and research plans by providing
feedback and general advice on using the research environment in a
constructive and international atmosphere. The Doctoral Consortium
provides PhD students with the opportunity to meet and discuss with
experts in their area. Students will present and discuss their thesis in
the context of a well-known and established international conference
outside of their usual university environment.
The workshop will take place on a single full day. Up to 10 Ph.D.
students will have the opportunity to participate. Students are expected
to meet the registration fees of the ICALT Conference (student rates).
The Doctoral Consortium will consist of 3 sessions. The first session
aims at giving students the chance to present their work to others and
get familiar with the work of other PhD students in their area. Each PhD
student will give a very brief presentation (about 3 minutes) about
his/her work with focus on motivation and research problem. These
presentations are followed by a poster exhibition where individual
discussion about each student's work will take place. The second session
aims at giving students feedback from an expert in their area and let
them discuss their work with him/her as well as with few other PhD
students doing research in the respective area. After the notification
of acceptance/rejection, each PhD student with an accepted paper will be
assigned to a small group consisting of 3-4 PhD students and one expert
in their area. Each group will start to communicate and exchange their
papers so that all members of the group are familiar with the papers of
each group member. During the second session, each small group will meet
individually. PhD students will give a short presentation about their
work (about 10 minutes; 3 slides: Motivation/Background, What have been
done already; What will be done in future). After each presentation,
group discussion will take place where each student can discuss his/her
work with the expert and with other PhD students. The third session
concludes the Doctoral Consortium, where students can reflect about what
they have learnt.

September 13, 2010
Hoboken, New Jersey - USA (close to New York City)
In conjunction with the *8th International Conference on Business
Process Management (BPM 2010)*
http://www.bpm2010.org
---------- CALL FOR PAPERS ----------
*Aims and Scope*
=============
The current complexity inherent in the corporative world demands a great
dynamism from the IT infrastructure in order to provide technical
solutions for conducting business. Business Process Management (BPM),
including its service-oriented foundation, has been providing important
technological support to improve organization competitiveness. In order
to increase dynamism and competitiveness, BPM can benefit from reuse
approaches and techniques at several stages of business process life cycle.
This workshop will be dedicated to explore any type of reuse in the
Business Process Management domain. Therefore, it will be a forum to
discuss systematic reuse applied to BPM at its various levels: a) the
basic service-oriented foundation level – including issues such as
service development, description, publication, discovery and selection;
b) the service composition level – encompassing service negotiation and
service aggregation; c) the management and monitoring upper level –
including business process modeling, execution, monitoring, and contract
establishment and enactment; and, d) the Quality of Service and
Semantics orthogonal level. Moreover, the impact of reuse on business-
and service-oriented engineering as well as how it can help in the
design of more high-quality process models are very important topics to
be discussed in this workshop.
Different existing reuse approaches and techniques can be extended to be
applied to this fairly new domain, including: software product line or
software product families; variability descriptors; design patterns such
as feature modeling; aspect-orientation; and component-based
development. In addition, completely new approaches and techniques can
be proposed. Their use must also be discussed, preferably under
experimentation as well as results analysis.
*Suggested Topics
*==============
Possible topics for the workshop papers are (but are not restricted to):
- Product Lines (Product Families) for BPM
- Patterns for business process and workflows
- Variability descriptors applied in BPM elements
- Feature modeling applied in BPM elements
- Aspect-oriented extensions for BPM
- Component-based Development and Service and Business-oriented Engineering
- Reuse in Service-oriented Architecture (SOA)
- Reuse in service development, negotiation, composition
