Final Call for Papers
16th Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS 2010), Lima, Peru,
August 12-15, 2010 ALL PAPERS ARE DUE: March 1, 2010 - midnight (EST)
Mini-Track: Knowledge Management in Information Systems Development

Haifa, hadari(a)mis.haifa.ac.il
Meira Levy, Department of Industrial Engineering& Management, Ben-Gurion
University of the Negev, lmeira(a)bgu.ac.il
Knowledge management (KM) has been recognized as an essential component of
knowledge-intensive processes, such as information systems development.
Current software development processes suffer all too often from
inappropriate projects cost and duration estimations, cancelation and
failures. The developed software product is frequently found fragile and
unreliable; having security defects; not fully complying with the
requirements; difficult to upgrade, and more. These problems occur because
software products are complex, hard to understand, and vulnerable, as a
single mistake can cause at times an entire system failure. Moreover,
communication between developers and end-users is an essential and
challenging issue. Often occurring miscommunications lead to inadequate
requirements' understanding resulting in bad system design and
implementation.
Knowledge management can facilitate information systems development by
enabling reuse of development experience, processes and products. Current KM
systems enable to organize the accumulated experience for better storage and
retrieval and open internal communication channels within the development
teams and external communication channels between the organization and the
end-users, throughout the development and integration process. Thus, KM has
the potential to increase information systems development efficiency,
producing better software products and increasing the organization's
success, from both financial and end-users' satisfaction perspectives.
This mini-track will focus on research that examines real settings where KM
was embedded in information systems development processes, evaluating its
role and influence on the process and its outcomes.
Suggested topics:
- Tools and technologies for managing knowledge within IS development
processes
- Methodologies for embedding KM practices in IS development
- Empirical evidence for implementing KM in IS development process
- Key performance indicators (KPI's) for evaluating the influence of
KM
- Incentive programs for enhancing KM adoption
- KM in world-wide distributed development teams
- KM influence on end-users' satisfaction

Call for Papers: Lightning Talks at OSS 2010 Doctoral Consortium
May 30, 2010, Notre Dame, IN, USA
http://www.ua.ac.be/oss2010dc
Collocated with the 6th International Conference on
Open Source Systems (OSS 2010)
May 30 - June 2, 2010, Notre Dame, IN, USA
http://www.oss2010.org/
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Collocated with the 6th International Conference on Open Source Systems
(OSS 2010), a Doctoral Consortium will be organized on May 30, 2010.
Please note that the deadline for the submission of full papers has
already passed. At this moment, we are issuing a call for papers for the
lightning talks special session. Funding for US-based students who
participate in the lightning talks session may be available.
LIGHTNING TALKS
Similar to last year, we will be hosting a special session of
"lightning talks" during the OSS 2010 Doctoral Consortium. During
this lightning talks session, multiple PhD students will be able to
briefly present their research proposal. Each presenter will be provided
with a 3-minute time slot and will have one slide available. The
lightning talks session allows PhD students to give a brief presentation
of their research, to actively participate in the Doctoral Consortium,
and to generate awareness of their topic.
The lightning talks session is primarily targeted towards PhD students
who are in the early phases of their research. Attending the discussion
on the research proposals of other PhD students may also be beneficial
for them, as it provides ideas on what future reactions to their own
research may be. In addition, by giving a lightning talk, they are able
to generate an interest in their research topic, which allows them to
connect to other researchers in related areas and to gain preliminary
feedback on their proposal.
The Doctoral Consortium will take place on May 30, allowing participants
to attend the OSS 2010 conference after the Doctoral Consortium. This
allows PhD students to further discuss their research with other
researchers in the following days. As well, because of the diversity of
the communities involved, the Doctoral Consortium will allow PhD
students to make connections beyond their own disciplines. As a result,
we expect that participation will allow PhD students to develop a better
understanding of the different research communities, which we believe
will facilitate their participation in future inter-disciplinary
research.
Funding may be available for US-based PhD students who participate in
the lightning talks session. The funding will cover all or part of the
registration, travel, and accommodation costs. More information will be
provided to participants who are accepted to the Doctoral Consortium.
Doctoral students outside the US are encouraged to seek funding with
their local funding agency. A letter of recommendation can be provided
by the Doctoral Consortium chairs upon acceptance.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
PhD students that are interested in giving a lightning talk at the OSS
2010 Doctoral Consortium can apply by submitting an abstract describing
their research proposal. Abstracts should not exceed one page and must
be formatted using the templates available in the "Author's Kit"
section on the website of the Doctoral Consortium. Each submission must
include title, author name(s) and affiliation. The abstract should
briefly outline the research question(s) or topic addressed in the
study, the proposed methodology, and the expected outcomes (as far as
they are known at the time of writing). Abstracts should not contain a
list of references.
Abstracts should be submitted by e-mail to Kris Ven (kris.ven(a)ua.ac.be).
Submissions in both Word (.doc, not .docx) and LaTeX format are
welcomed. Abstracts will be reviewed by the OSS 2010 Doctoral Consortium
chairs based on their relevance to the OSS domain.

2nd International Workshop on
Future Trends of Model-Driven Development
(FTMDD'10)
8 -- 12 June 2010
in conjunction with the 12th International Conference on
Enterprise Information Systems (http://www.iceis.org/
<http://www.iceis.org/>)
Funchal, Madeira - Portugal
Background and Goals
------------------------------
The Model-Driven Architecture (MDA) is an approach to the development of
IT systems fostered by the Object Management Group (OMG) that separates
the specification of the system functionality from its implementation on
a particular platform. A common pattern of MDA development is to define
a platform-independent model (PIM) of a system, and to apply
(parameterised) transformations to this PIM to obtain one or more
platform-specific models (PSMs). In this context, PIMs are reusable
models that consolidate the application development effort. Furthermore,
MDA advocates the use of OMG core technology, especially the Meta-Object
Facility (MOF) and MOF-compliant languages such as UML and CWM. In
Model-Driven Development the MDA principles and technologies are applied
in the development of software systems.
MDD is already around for some years and is about to become commodity in
software development due to its benefits (reduction on development
costs, improvement of software quality, reduction of maintenance costs
and the support for controlled evolution of IT systems). MDD has also
been applied in many application areas, such as real-time and embedded
systems, and telecommunication systems, and, more recently, to the
development and integration of enterprise information systems. However,
the MDD research community is wishing to explore the bounds of MDD, by
investigating new applications areas and combinations with other
emerging technologies, like, for example, pervasive context-aware
systems, Semantic web, Semantic web services, SOA and ontologies. This
workshop aims at fostering the further development and application of
MDD techniques. This is the second edition of this workshop, in which we
want to build upon the very successful first edition last year in Milan.
Keynote Speaker
----------------------------
A keynote speaker will be invited to address the workshop on future
trends on the theory, practise and applications of MDD techniques.
Paper submission:
----------------------------
The workshop welcomes three types of submissions:
1- Full papers describing novel ideas on MDD at either a practical or
theoretical level. The length of a full paper should not exceed 12 pages
(7000 words).
2- Short or position papers describing work in progress or an author's
position regarding the current MDD practice and/or its future trends.
The maximum length of a position paper is 5 pages.
3- Demonstrations of a particular prototype approach or tool applicable
to MDD. The demonstration should be accompanied by a paper with a
maximum length of 4 pages. The demonstration will be shown during the
workshop.
Instructions for preparing the manuscript are available at the ICEIS
web site. Papers should be submitted online through the online
submission system.
Remarks about the on-line submission procedure:
--------------------------------------------------------
1. A "double-blind" paper evaluation method will be used. To facilitate
that, the authors are kindly requested to produce and provide the paper,
WITHOUT any reference to any of the authors. This means that is
necessary to remove the authors personal details, the acknowledgements
section and any reference that may disclose the authors identity.
2. The web submission procedure automatically sends an acknowledgement,
by e-mail, to the contact author.
All papers will be reviewed on the basis of relevance, clarity and
technical quality. At least one author should attend the workshop to
present the paper.
All accepted papers will be published in workshop proceedings book with
an ISBN#, which will be printed by INSTICC Press. The proceedings will
be available at the time of the workshop

SECOND CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
=====================================
The AVI 2010 Workshop on
Interactive Data Exploration and Knowledge Discovery
Rome, Italy
May 25, 2010
http://staff.science.uva.nl/~elenaz/AVI2010/
======================================
held in conjunction with the 2010 ACM Working Conference on Advanced
Visual Interfaces: http://www.dis.uniroma1.it/~avi2010/
SUBMISSION DEADLINE (abstracts in ACM format): March 4, 2010
People have always relied on visual tools such as maps, charts and
diagrams to better understand problems and solve them in less time.
Continuous improvements in computer processing power and graphics
capabilities have made it possible to incorporate a wide range of
advanced visualization techniques in most computing application domains,
including business, medicine, engineering and science. However, without
interactivity, visualisation is often considered as an end point of the
workflow or as a way of communicating observations. The way people
perceive and interact with visualisations can strongly influence their
understanding of the data as well as the usefulness of a visualisation
system in general.
Important progress has been recently made toward the improvement of a
computer-supported information analysis cycle. However, many challenges
still remain. The greatest challenge is how to efficiently deal with a
community of scientists who generate more data than they can possibly
look at and understand. This requires novel high-performance
visualisation algorithms and feature extraction techniques. Finding
effective visual idioms for direct user interaction is yet another
challenge. Also, it is becoming crucial to develop new guidelines and
metrics to be able to efficiently evaluate interactive exploration
environments. Another concern is how to choose from a wide plethora of
available input devices and display configurations to ensure a good user
experience and ‘human-to-human’ interaction between scientists while
exploring complex data spaces.
The goal of the workshop is to bring together academic researchers and
practitioners from computer science, HCI, software engineering, social
sciences and psychology to discuss the state-of-the-art research and to
exchange ideas to help overcome the aforementioned challenges. Topics of
interest for the workshop include, but are not limited to the following:
* Advanced visualisation algorithms and systems;
* Augmented and Virtual Reality for exploring complex data spaces;
* Collaborative virtual environments;
* Novel display systems and interaction devices;
* Multi-modal visualisation and interaction;
* Adaptive interaction for effective data exploration and knowledge
discovery;
* Social user interfaces;
* Human factors in computer-supported exploration;
* Design guidelines for interactive visualisation tools;
* Relevant usability and user experience studies;
* Interactive visualisation applications and systems.
Submission Guidelines:
Please submit a short abstract of maximum one page to
e.v.zudilova-seinstra(a)uva.nl and tony.adriaansen(a)gmail.com by March 4,
2010. Submissions will be judged based on their scientific quality and
application value.
Please strictly comply with the ACM formats
(http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates), when
preparing your abstract(s).
Submissions are invited from the academic, industrial and commercial
institutes. All accepted abstracts will be published in the AVI 2010
Conference Proceedings by ACM and the authors will be invited to give an
oral presentation during the workshop. Also, following on from the

Betreff: [AISWorld] Combining IS & Operations Management - finding
synergies
Datum: Thu, 18 Feb 2010 08:39:53 -0800
Von: Erica Wagner <elwagner(a)pdx.edu>
An: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org
We would like to hear from IS faculty whose areas have been combined
with operations management. We are specifically interested in
‘marriages’ that sought genuine synergies between the two fields,
rather than simple administrative efficiencies. What kinds of courses
were subsequently developed and offered by the IS faculty involved?
How did the collaboration serve students in preparing for the job
market? (Or did it?) Anything else you can offer about the potential
advantages (and drawbacks) will be greatly appreciated.
As usual, we will make the responses (rendered confidential upon
request) available on-line. Please email us at elwagner(a)pdx.edu

Many thanks

Background and Goals:
--------------------
Business process management (BPM) technologies are considered as one of
the key success stories in providing process control and monitoring
functions, and addressing complex integration requirements in enterprise
systems. However, the expectation of what this technology must deliver
is a moving target. Whereas the success of coordinative processes
depends upon the conformance to the prescribed control flow, the success
of the collaborative process depends upon the ability to detect and
react to changing conditions. What was true for workflow systems is no
longer acceptable in the dynamic and cross organizational requirements
for management of collaborative processes. The trend is going towards
agile, responsive, and (self-)adaptive business processes which are able
to make use of existing context information in order to align to
changing business requirements.
BPM has become a very extensive area with several specialized aspects.
This workshop intends to provide a forum wherein challenges in flexible,
context-aware, and collaborative business process management can be
debated. We seek papers that present innovative technology solutions to
these challenges based on well justified practical assumptions and sound
theoretical foundations.
Submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of significance,
originality, technical quality, and exposition. Papers should clearly
establish the research contribution, and relation to previous research.
Position and survey papers are also welcome.
Topics of interest:
-------------------
We particularly solicit approaches to context-aware, agile, responsive,
and adaptive business processes. Below we provide a list of relevant
topics, however papers outside these topics but within the general scope
of the workshop scope will still be considered.
- Context-aware business processes
- Adaptive process management
- Context modeling (e.g., ontologies, rule-based approaches)
- Knowledge and task management in (collaborative) processes
- Self-adapting / self-healing business processes
- Technologies for modeling and analysis of (collaborative) processes
- Interactive approaches for end-user engagement and visualization of
business processes (can include Web 2.0)
- Event driven process management
- Collaboration modeling using game theory and/or social networks
(wisdom of crowds) in Business Process Management
- Usability and technology adoption of BPM solutions
- Exception Handling in BPM
- Patterns for context-aware BPM
Format of the Workshop:
----------------------
The workshop will consist of oral presentations, discussions, and
invited talks. The workshop will also provide opportunity for demo
sessions, where presenters can showcase advanced prototypes based on
their research.
Submission of Papers
All papers must be written in English, and the length of the paper
should not exceed 5,000 words or 10 pages (including figures and
tables). Instructions for preparing the manuscript (in Word and Latex
format) are available at the ICEIS web site. Papers (in PDF format)
should be submitted online through the ICEIS online submission system
(http://www.insticc.org/Primoris/). In addition, an email must be sent
to all workshop chairs including: title, authors' affiliation, and an
abstract of the paper submitted.
Workshop Proceedings:
--------------------
All accepted papers will be published in workshop proceedings book with
an ISBN#, which will be printed by INSTICC Press. The proceedings will
be available at the time of the workshop.
