TRACK:
DIGITAL GAME PLAY AS SOCIOTECHNICAL PRACTICE
The Digital Game industry has become one of the fastest growing,
innovative and globalised industries in advanced Western economies and
Digital Games have become a key cultural artefact and leisure practice
in contemporary societies. Developing out of the American military
industrial and academic complex in the 1970s the study of Digital
Games design and play is the study of a range of sociotechnical
practices and the negotiations between a range of human and non-human
actors operating within systems of rules. The complexity of these
relationships brings forth a series of questions that can be
investigated using Science and Technology Studies approaches. However,
to date games studies, with few exceptions, have failed to adopt STS
approaches and the STS community has largely ignored this area of
study.
This track seeks to develop the relationship between the game studies
community and the STS community. Several research questions can be
used to guide this: What STS theories can be used to understand
Digital Games as sociotechnical phenomenon? Is the concept of practice
and the practice-based approach useful to investigate Digital Games?
Is there a relationship between power as inscribed and imposed by
artefacts and the technical dimensions of Digital Games? What rules
are inscribed into Digital Games technologies and what social worlds
do these rules describe? What contribution can the study of Digital
Games make to the STS discipline at large? And what contribution can
an STS approach make to game studies? Can we foresee an after-method
approach for Digital Games?
We invite papers that tackle the sociotechnical dimensions of Digital
Games and address some of the questions outlined above. Contributions
might include (but are not restricted to):
• Digital Games as material semiotic artefacts
• Digital Games as sociotechnical assemblages
• The mess of digital games
• Innovation in game design as actor-networking and social shaping
• Digital Game design and/or play as performance and practice
• Disruptive sociotechnical users’ practices (e.g. hacking, modding)
• The scripting of gendered gaming practices
• Governance and regulation of gaming practices
Abstracts of no more than 500 words should be sent by email (following
website instructions:
http://events.unitn.it/en/easst010/abstract-submission) by 2010 March
15th. Please include also a preliminary references list (up to 4).

Betreff: [AISWorld] Call for Chapters: Book on Knowledge Management 2.0
Datum: Thu, 18 Feb 2010 15:36:02 +0100
Von: Imed Boughzala <imed.boughzala(a)it-sudparis.eu>
An: <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
*CALL FOR CHAPTERS*
*Proposal Submission Deadline: March 15, 2010*
*Full Chapter Submission: July 15, 2010*
*Knowledge Management 2.0: Organizational Models and Enterprise Strategies*
A book edited by Dr. Imed Boughzala (Institut Telecom, France)
and Dr. Aurélie Dudezert (Ecole Centrale Paris, France)
To be published by IGI Global:
http://www.igi-global.com/requests/details.asp?ID=781
*THE CALL*
We are pleased to invite scholars and practitioners to contribute
chapters that advance our theoretical or practical understanding of the
new Knowledge Management (KM) practices in the context of Enterprise 2.0
(or enterprise social software). Enterprise 2.0 "is the use of Web 2.0,
emergent social software platforms within companies or between
companies, and their partners or customers" as defined initially by
Andrew McAfee. It has since evolved to cover further dimensions.
The book aims to give an overview on theoretical and empirical research
that investigates the next KM generation in the Web 2.0 age, which would
be called KM 2.0. It will highlight evolutions of the KM area with a
global focus and an international dimension of studies. The objective is
also to compare different approaches and practices developed in
different countries and cultures.
*THE CONTEXT*
In the last few years, KM practices have evolved in organizations. Due
to the introduction of Web 2.0 technologies, new usages of information
and knowledge sharing have emerged (Enterprise 2.0). The new generation
of employees (Generation Y or /Milennials/) has new habits at work. They
use everyday Web 2.0 technologies (blogs, wikis, social networking
platforms, Mashups, etc.) in the private arena and, therefore, consider
that such technologies for e-collaboration and self-organizing are the
best means/methods to work. They are eager to simply and quickly find
good information/knowledge, anytime and anywhere, and are not
intimidated by knowledge complexity and organizational hierarchy.
Thus, the concept of KM has been impacted and has evolved towards more
human interactions management and interpersonal networking, in addition
to traditional information and knowledge processing. Organizations are
currently developing a new type of KM which is social-based and may be
called KM 2.0. They become knowledge-centric organizations because they
focus more on KM and social collaboration, rather than on hierarchy and
control. In this new era, all employees can equally participate in
creating, using, and sharing information and knowledge. Knowledge is no
longer a matter of expert. Every "individual" (or knowledge worker)
plays a central role in this case. Knowledge generated by employees is
not only used for designing value-added products or services, but also
for inventing new work modes based on people empowerment, user emergent
participation and collaboration. Business models, organizational
management, work modes, knowledge worker's skills and behavior, and so
forth are intended to be transformed, reviewed, and even sometimes to be
rethought.
Moreover, while the old KM generation focuses mainly on
intra-organizational knowledge, KM 2.0 covers technological evolutions,
making it more naturally inter-organizational KM (IKM), such as in SCM
and e-business where many exchanges and sharing of knowledge are done
between partners through social networks and communities.
*THE BOOK CONTENT*
The book will be written for those who want to improve his/her
understanding of challenges associated with KM evolutions due to the
emergence of Web 2.0 technologies. It will, in particular, discuss
impacts of KM 2.0 practices on:
* Business models
* Enterprise governance and strategies
* Organizational structures and models
* Business work practices
* Human resources
* IT design, implementation, and appropriation in organizations
We seek contributions from all epistemological perspectives (positivist,
interpretivist, and critical), whether theoretical or empirical. They
could be design or behavioral science approach oriented.
*TARGET AUDIENCE*
This book is meant for those connected with the fields of Management
Science, Information Systems, Design Engineering, or anyone interested
in the KM paradigms changing through Web 2.0 usages (Enterprise 2.0).
It intends to serve as a valuable asset for academics (graduate
students, researchers, and professors) in their research and teaching,
as well as managers and practitioners in their KM strategy reformulation
and Web 2.0 technologies implementation.
*Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:*
* KM through social networks and communities of practice: How do
organizational models and enterprise strategies have to be adapted?
* KM 2.0 and competitive strategy: How to define business models
based on knowledge development and promotion? How to manage

Call for Papers
1st International Conference on IT-enabled Innovation in Enterprise
29-31 July, 2010
University of Piraeus, Athens, Greece
http://www.icitie.innov.org/
Important Dates
===============
Extended Submission Deadline: March 29, 2010
Authors Notification (regular papers): April 27, 2010
Final Regular Paper Submission and Registration: May 11, 2010
Conference date: 29-31 July, 2010
Background
==========
The new International Conference on IT-enabled Innovation in Enterprise
aims to provide a premier forum for the presentation and discussion of
business and organisational innovation associated with Information
Technology (IT).
In a global and interconnected economy of the 21st century innovation
management is an important aspect for enterprise sustainability and
survival. Over the last years the topic has attracted large interest
from research and practitioners alike. An organisation’s competitive
advantage depends on the ability of its people, processes, and systems
to manage innovation and seek sustainability. Innovation Management has
been discussed and examined from a variety of perspectives, including
behavioural, managerial, strategic and technological. In this regard,
information technology and technology innovation are frequently referred
as enablers and facilitators of innovation.
With this conference we intend to complement the mostly behavioural and
technology centred discussion on innovation. The aim of this conference
is to examine how information technology enables and generates
innovation and thus provides value to enterprises. The goal of this

*Objective and Aspirations*
The purpose of the mini-track is raise attention of Information Systems
researchers to the emerging area of Mobile Consumer Services and
Applications. Our objective is to provide a discussion forum for
researchers whom are interested in the development and design of mobile
information systems primarily for consumer use. The opportunity to
present and debate theory-based solutions for problems that industry is
currently facing in the field of consumers mobile services and
applications will help the advancement of design science research within
this paradigm.
* Description*
Amazing business and technology successes such as Apple’s iPhone and App
Store for distributing associated applications is motivating Information
Systems researchers to shift the focus of design and development
oriented research towards the understanding of what challenges consumers
as end-users of mobile services and application create and how
theorizing might improve the development and design of mobile services
and applications. The emerging area of Consumer Information Systems
brings up interesting problems that have not yet been studied. For
example, traditional information systems development approaches focus on
improving the efficiency and effectiveness of organizational processes
whereas design for consumer information systems may require an emphasis
on hedonic value derived in the consumer experience. We see that the
shift in focus from users to consumers calls for a significant
re-appraisal of our current information systems development methods and
the ways we design mobile services and applications.
We welcome papers that investigate different aspects of designing mobile
services and applications for consumers with the preference of using
Design Science Research as the research methodology for the studies.
Papers for this mini-track will be screened for invitation to submit
to the special issue in JITTA: Journal of Information Technology Theory
& Application – A Publication of the Association for Information
Systems. *S**ee call for papers for the special issue* at

Enterprise Architecting (EA) is the process of developing an enterprise
Information Technology architecture -- both its description and its
implementation. An EA description focuses on a holistic and integrated
view of the why, where, and who uses IT systems and how and what they
are used for within an organization. An enterprise architect (and
his/her team) develops the strategy and enables the decisions for
designing, developing, and deploying IT systems to support the business
operations as well as to assess, select, and integrate the technology
into the organization's infrastructure. Alignment between business and
IT has remained one of the top three issues for CIOs and IS managers for
several years as reported by CIO magazine.
An EA implementation focuses on remediating, renovating, or replacing IT
systems in compliance with the EA description to achieve the proposed
benefits. EA is central to the execution of business strategies.
Organizations vary in their degree of EA maturity. While the research
literature has devoted substantial attention to the development of
effective EA frameworks and the alignment of business and IT, there is
very little empirical evidence about the organizational benefits of EA.
For example, we know very little about which processes, approaches or
coordination practices lead to an effective architecting effort or
whether this effort leads to measurable organizational benefits.
Consequently, we are soliciting paper submissions that: advance our
knowledge of EA; help us learn about effective processes and approaches
to effectively manage the EA; and begin to identify ways to measure the
organizational benefits derived from EA. Papers will be solicited in
several areas, including, but not limited to the following:
. Architecting Processes, Methodologies and Practices
. Architectural Frameworks and Theory
. Tools and Techniques Supporting Architecting
. Service-Oriented Architectures (including Web Services)
. System versus Software Architectures
. Addressing EA Challenges
. Integration of EA with IT Governance and SOA
. Surveys and Case Studies
. EA and Organizational Success

With the usual apologies for cross-posting, I would like to announce
that the workshop on the Future of the Web for Collaborative Science
(FWCS2010) has been extended until February 22, 2010.
Please see the workshop homepage
http://esw.w3.org/topic/HCLS/WWW2010/Workshop
or read the textual description below:
THE FUTURE OF THE WEB FOR COLLABORATIVE SCIENCE, April 26 2010
held in conjunction with WWW2010, April 26-30, 2010
at the Raleigh Convention Center, Raleigh, NC, USA
The Web was originally invented with the physics community in mind, but
rapidly expanded to include other scientific disciplines, in particular
the health care and life sciences. By the mid 1990s the Web was already
being used to share data by biomedical professionals and
bioinformaticians. The Web continues to be immensely important to these
fields, however use cases have expanded considerably. Researchers are
now looking to share extremely large data sets on the Web, extract
insights from vast numbers of papers cross sub-disciplines, and use
social networking tools to identify potential collaborators, aggregate
data and engage in scientific discussion. Furthermore, individuals are
beginning to store their medical records online, and some are sharing
their genetic makeup in a bid to find others with a similar profile.
These use cases are pushing the boundaries of what is currently
possible with the Web. This workshop will present how scientists are
currently using the Web, and discuss the functionality that is required
to make the Web an ideal platform for both cutting edge scientific
collaboration and for managing health care and life science related
data.
Papers of Interest
We would encourage submission of papers covering the following topics:
* Web 2.0 applications for large, heterogeneous and complex data sets
* Models for collaborative scientific annotations
* Tools and applications for aggregating information across web sites
* Provenance, attribution, trust, and intellectual property
* Policy for data access, sharing, and anonymization
We seek three kinds of submissions:
* Full technical papers: up to 10 pages
* Short technical and position papers: up to 5 pages
* Demo description: up to 2 pages

Subject: ICSE 2010 Tutorial: Bayesian Methods for Data Analysis in Software Engineering
If you are planning to attend ICSE 2010, please consider participating in a full-day tutorial on:
Bayesian Methods for Data Analysis in Software Engineering
Date: May 3, 2010
Presenters: Mohan Sridharan and Akbar Siami Namin (Texas Tech University)
Abstract:
Software engineering researchers analyze programs by applying a range of test cases, measuring relevant statistics and reasoning about the observed phenomena. Though the traditional statistical methods provide a rigorous analysis of the data obtained during program analysis, they lack the flexibility to build a unique representation for each program. Bayesian methods for data analysis, on the other hand, allow for flexible updates of the knowledge acquired through observations. Despite their strong mathematical basis and obvious suitability to software analysis, Bayesian methods are still largely under-utilized in the software engineering community, primarily because many software engineers are unfamiliar with the use of Bayesian methods to formulate their research problems.
This tutorial will provide a broad introduction of Bayesian methods for data analysis, with a specific focus on problems of interest to software engineering researchers. In addition, the tutorial will provide an in-depth understanding of a subset of popular topics such as Bayesian inference, probabilistic prediction techniques, Markov models, information theory and sampling. The core concepts will be explained using case studies and the application of prominent statistical tools on examples drawn from software engineering research. At the end of the tutorial, the participants will acquire the necessary skills and background knowledge to formulate their research problems using Bayesian methods, and analyze their formulation using appropriate software tools.
