- CONFERENCE FOCUS
Software and systems development takes place in a dynamic
context of frequently changing technologies, and limited
resources. Development teams worldwide are under
ever-increasing pressure to deliver software, systems and
services more quickly and with higher levels of quality. At
the same time, global competition is forcing development
organizations to cut costs by rationalizing processes,
outsourcing part or all of their activities, reusing
existing software in new or modified applications and
evolving existing systems to meet new needs, whilst still
minimizing the risk of projects failing to deliver. To
address these difficulties, new or modified processes are
emerging including lean and agile methods, plan-based
product line development, and stronger integration with
existing processes.
In 2011, the new ICSSP conference series, as the successor
to the past ICSP conference series, will continue to serve
the software process community, but widening the ICSP scope
from a focus on software process to a focus on the larger
issues relating to systems research and practice. For ICSSP
2011, submissions addressing process support for developing
software, systems and services in a systems engineering
context are of particular interest.

_Workshop Background and Goals_
Information Systems Security is one of the most pressing challenges
facing all kinds of organizations today. Although many companies have
discovered how critical information is to the success of their business
or operations, very few have managed to be effective in maintaining
their information secure, avoiding unauthorized access, preventing
intrusions, stopping secret information disclosure, etc.
There are various definitions of security, but all of them basically
agree on the same components. Security in information systems considers
the protection of information and of the systems that manage it, against
a wide range of threats in order to ensure business continuity, minimize
risks and maximize the return on investment and business opportunities.
Security is, therefore, currently a widespread and growing concern that
covers all areas of society: business, domestic, financial, government,
and so on. In fact, the so-called information society is increasingly
dependent on a wide range of software systems whose mission is critical,
such as air traffic control systems, financial systems, or public health
systems. The potential losses that are faced by businesses and
organizations that rely on all these systems, both hardware and
software, therefore signify that it is crucial for information systems
to be properly secured from the outset.
With the increasing dependence that the information society has on
Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the need to protect
information is increasingly important for companies. The demand for
products, systems and services with which to manage and maintain
information is therefore increasing, and the realization of superficial
security controls is not sufficient. It is necessary to apply a rigorous
approach to the assessing and improvement of the security of products
and processes that take place in the context of ICT. This has led to the
emergence of Information Security Management Systems (ISMS), which are
of great importance to the stability of companies' information systems.
In this new edition of WOSIS, the traditional information systems
security will be maintained but that area of security engineering which
is oriented towards developing secure software, security aspects in new
applications and technologies, and security management will also be
considered. Topics such as model driven security approaches, security
requirements elicitations, security in Cloud and Mobile computing,
e-services, analysis and management of risks, and/or security assessment
are therefore welcome in the WOSIS 2011 edition.

MODULARITY, as studied for many years in software engineering, allows mechanisms for easy and flexible reuse, generalization, structuring, maintenance, design patterns, and comprehension. Applied to ontology engineering, modularity is central not only to reduce the complexity of understanding ontologies, but also to facilitate ontology maintenance and ontology reasoning.
Recent research on ontology modularity shows substantial progress in foundations of modularity, techniques of modularization and modular development, distributed reasoning and empirical evaluation. These results provide a foundation for ongoing multi-disciplinary research and development.
The workshop follows a series of successful events that have been an excellent venue for practitioners and researchers to discuss latest work and current problems, and is this time organised as a satellite workshop of ESSLLI 2011 (week 2, see http://esslli2011.ijs.si/?p=306 ), following an introductory ESSLLI course on notions of modularity in ontologies (week 1, see http://esslli2011.ijs.si/?p=310 ).
TOPICS include, but are not limited to:
- What is Modularity: Kinds of modules and their properties; modules vs. contexts; design patterns; granularity of representation;
- Logical/Foundational Studies: Conservativity and syntactic approximations for modules; modular ontology languages; reconciling inconsistencies across modules; formal structuring of modules; networks of ontologies; heterogeneity;
- Algorithmic Approaches: distributed reasoning; modularization and module extraction; (selective) sharing and re-using, linking and importing; hiding and privacy; evaluation of modularization approaches; complexity of reasoning; reasoners or implemented systems;
- Applications: Semantic Web; life sciences; bio-ontologies; natural language processing; ontologies of space and time; ambient intelligence; collaborative ontology development; etc.
The workshop is open to all members of the ESSLLI community. Workshop speakers will be required to register for the Summer School; however, they will be able to register at a reduced rate to be determined by the Local Organizers.

AIS Announces 2010 Annual Student Chapter Awards
ATLANTA, GA - The Association for Information Systems (AIS), the premier
association for information systems, is proud to announce the recipients of
the 2010 Annual Student Chapter Awards, recognizing outstanding achievement
among the student chapters of the association. The University of Georgia
tops the list as AIS 2010 Student Chapter of the Year.
"We are very proud of the recipients of 2010 AIS student awards. These
chapters represent the reason we started the student chapter initiative-to
support IS students, both current and prospective, in attaining their career
goals and furthering the profession as a whole," says Joey George, AIS
President. The awards will be presented on December 14th, 2010 at the
International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), St Louis, USA.
The award recipients were selected by a committee chaired by Munir
Mandviwalla, AIS VP Student Chapters, and included student, faculty advisor,
AIS council member, and industry representatives. The committee rated each
of the 55 eligible submissions and then discussed the results to select the
award recipients. According to Mandviwalla, "the award recipients represent
the best of the more than 3000 students associated with AIS student chapters
from across the world."
The student chapter-of-the-year award is the highest award given to a
student chapter that has demonstrated an exceptional, well-rounded, and
organized program. The distinguished student chapter award recognizes
chapters who have excelled in most of key activities listed below. The
outstanding chapter award recognizes deserving student chapters that have
excelled in three of the key activities. The student chapter of the year and
distinguished and outstanding chapter awards also include cash grants.
Certificates were awarded to chapters who demonstrated excellence in one (or
more) of the key activities. The activities rated by the committee included
professional development, membership, careers in IS, community service,
fundraising, and communications.
Additional recipients include:

AIS Student Chapters, founded in late 2008, are dedicated to providing a
forum for undergraduate and graduate IS students to interact with one
another, both on their individual campuses and with other student chapters
from around the world. Through the growth of the Student Chapter community,
the program is also designed to attract students to the discipline overall.
Since the inception of the initiative, more than 3000 students worldwide are
associated with AIS student chapters.
The Association for Information Systems (AIS), founded in 1994, is a
professional organization whose purpose is to serve as the premier global
organization for Information Systems. For more information about AIS or to

Betreff: [AISWorld] Call for Papers: ISJ Special Issue - Interpreting

While the study of social networks enjoys a long and rich tradition,
particularly in the fields of sociology and anthropology, it has only
recently grown in popularity among IS researchers interested in applying
established social network theories to online environments. This recent
interest from the IS community has been driven by a number of factors
including the advances in the computing and visualisation power of
social network analysis packages, the public availability of large-scale
empirical datasets (such as the Enron email archive), and the emergence
of the popular online social networking services Facebook, LinkedIn,
MySpace, and Twitter, as well as other platforms that facilitate mass
collaboration and self-organisation, such as blogs, wikis, user tagging
systems, and even the more recent emergence of virtual worlds. As such,
a number of prominent IS journals have already dedicated special issues
to the topic of digital enabled social networks in recent times. While
the studies published in these special issues have generated many
important insights, the majority have tended to investigate digital
enabled social networks with a positivist philosophy employing
quantitative methods. Much of our current understanding of the dynamics
of these social structures stems from methods which measure and
correlate the overall network structure, or the individual's position
within the network, to a variety of dependent variables. There is much
that has yet to be understood about social networks constructed on
digital platforms, particularly their impact on organisational life.
Interpretative studies can contribute greatly by providing rich and deep
insights into the inner workings of these important organisational forms
and the technical, behavioural, and economic challenges they face.
The aim of this special issue is to advance the state of social network
research within the IS field by discussing and disseminating empirical
results gained through interpretative studies. The focus is upon
highlighting work that makes significant theoretical and empirical
advances to our understanding of digital enabled social networks.
Submissions that address methodological issues associated with the study
of social networks in IS research are also welcome.
Topics may include, but are not limited to the following:
·New qualitative approaches to study digital enabled social networks
·Assessing the nature and quality of information exchange and knowledge
creation in digital enabled social networks
·IS case studies that describe how digital enabled social networks can
be harnessed in organisational settings
·Open innovation/co-creation through digital enabled social networks
·Interpretative studies investigating entrepreneurship and the rise of
occupational communities through digital enabled social networks
·Interpretative insights of leadership and governance in digital enabled
social networks
·Qualitative approaches to examine the interplay between online and
offline social networks
·Social networks and IT adoption
·Interpretative studies to ascertain the role of ICT in the diffusion of
information, trends, behaviours, and innovations in social networks
·Combining social network analysis and qualitative approaches in IS
research
·Methodological issues in IS social network research
·Critical reviews of the digital enabled social network literature
*Submission Guidelines*
Manuscripts should not normally exceed 7000 words and should be
submitted online at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/isj. Authors will
have to select Special Issue Submission as the manuscript type. Author

CALL FOR PAPERS for the
24th Bled eConference:
eFuture: Creating Solutions for the Individual,
Organisations and Society
June 12 - 15, 2011, Bled, Slovenia
http://BledConference.org
The theme for this year’s conference eFuture: Creating
Solutions for the Individual, Organisations and Society
serves to focus discourse and discussion on the impacts of
our e-initiatives and how they serve to shape the New
eWorld. Especially in the light of the recent global down
turn, the future is indeed very challenging making the need
for appropriate and suitable e-initiatives and e-solutions
for individuals, organizations and societies an imperative.
As emerging digital environments generate new ways of
communication and interaction between individuals,
organizations and societies we need to examine structures,
processes and operations to ensure we are migrating to a
more reliable eWorld. New eResponsiblities have to be taken
by business, governments and individuals of this Brave New
eWorld in order to contend with emerging eRisks and
eChallenges. Moreover, it is essential that managers,
politicians, employees, and citizens take actions at both
the macro and the micro level so that discourse and
discussion focuses on designing suitable organizational
configurations, effective and effi-cient processes, new
kinds of products and services, and necessary
infrastructures and technologies in short we need the
correct eSolutions so that the eFuture is indeed bright.
Research papers addressing the conference theme should be
original, unpublished elsewhere and no longer than 5,000
words. Detailed information about electronic submission and
other issues will be available on the Conference web site.
All accepted papers will be published in the Conference
Proceedings on the web and on CDs (with ISBN and CIP
number). Since 2001 Research Papers are available also in
AIS Electronic Library and since 2008 in Conference
Proceedings Citation Index -- an integrated index within Web
of Science®.
Each year, authors of selected papers are invited to submit
enhanced versions for consideration for a Special Section in
Electronic Markets - The International Journal on Networked
Business (_http://www.electronicmarkets.org/_). Electronic
Markets is a fully double-blind reviewed scientific research
journal and is listed in the Social Sciences Citation Index
