CALL FOR PAPERS - EINREICHUNGSDEADLINE: 15.01.2011
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Symposium on Collective Intelligence - COLLIN 2011
vom 09.-10.06.2011 in Seoul
(http://www.fernuni-hagen.de/collin2011)
Collective behavior and collective intelligence have come
more and more into the focus of both, research and
practical, everyday use. Users crowd to design new products
or help solving engineering problems, and companies have to
find an answer how to integrate the knowledge into their
processes. Changing environmental factors, like new
information technology and changed customer behavior, allow
for many opportunities for the emergence of collective
intelligence. Collective behavior and the achieved results
as well as the closely connected individual learning
processes offer a high potential for value creation in
different areas, like business, research or society.
However, the potential of collective behavior, collective
intelligence and learning in the context of value creation
is widely unexplored. To harness this potential, it is
important to understand the basic concepts, features and
mechanism of collective intelligence based on
interdisciplinary research.
To provide a platform to share ideas and information between
scientists and also between scientists and practitioners,
the symposium on collective intelligence will take place
from June 9 to June 10, 2011 at the Seoul National
University in Korea. Since the topic is highly
interdisciplinary the symposium focuses on different
research areas, like economics, informatics, media science,
psychology, or sociology.

*From early-warning systems to preparedness and training**
8th International Conference on
Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management*
*May 8-11 2011
LNEC Congress Centre
Lisbon, Portugal
http://iscram2011.lnec.pt*
TRACK: SOCIAL MEDIA AND COLLABORATIVE SYSTEMS
*Introduction of the track*
The convergence of information and communication
technologies, the growth of the Internet including the
mobile Internet, and the advent of technologies known under
the general heading of Web 2.0 have all contributed to our
ability to collaborate over great distances, both
synchronously and asynchronously. Our aim in this track is
to explore how these new approaches to and support for
collaboration can help in crisis management and response.
How might such collaboration technologies help:
· preparation for disasters?
· the crisis management team in their decision making on the
handling the event?
· the crisis management team in their interactions with a
wide range of responders, government bodies, various publics
and stakeholders and, of course, the victims and their families?
· all parties build a picture and share information about a
developing crisis?
· widen the range of stakeholders who can join fully in
handling the crisis and recovery?
· involve communities fully during the recovery phase to
rebuild and return to normality?
· communities to work together, alongside but independently
of government and non-governmental agencies, to inform and
help themselves, co-ordinating citizen-led efforts?
· virtual teams and virtual communities develop processes
and software for emergency management and recovery?
*Track topics*
Papers are invited that provide rich description and/or
evaluation of the actual use of novel web based and other
systems for collaboration and/or widespread participation in
any phase of emergency management, from initial planning and
preparedness, through detection, response, and recovery
phases. This might include, among others:
* Studies of the use of virtual teams or virtual
communities or “social software” (e.g., social
networking sites, knowledge gathering systems such as
Wikimapia) in the design or use of emergency
management information systems, with data collection
methods ranging from laboratory or field experiments
to qualitative case studies.
* Exploration and assessment of any problems that occur
when virtual or partially distributed teams or the
general public use information technology to
coordinate disaster management related tasks, and how
can they be resolved.
* Assessment of the advantages of collaborative systems
compared to closed “command and control” systems
created for ‘official’ involvement only.
* Investigations of the role these sorts of forums could
have in future disaster preparation and response. How
could their efforts be better facilitated? What
socio-technical conditions should be in place to make
them most beneficial?
* Behavioral studies of collaboration which have
implications for the use of networking and web
technologies in crisis response and management,
including experimental studies.

CALL FOR PAPERS
*CKME11 - 3nd Workshop on the Convergence of Knowledge Management and
E-Learning*
http://www.wm-konferenz2011.org/ckme.html
within the 6th Conference Professional Knowledge Management - From
Knowledge to Action
21st of February to 23rd of February 2011, Innsbruck (Austria)
http://www.wm-konferenz2011.org/indexEN.html
Background and Motivation of the Workshop
=========================================
The workshop brings together researchers and practitioners that are
interested in combining findings from two different fields: knowledge
management and e-learning. Thereby, the content ranges from recent
scientific approaches via prototypical implementations up to field
reports about the convergence of knowledge management and e-Learning.
After the very successful first two CKME Workshops in 2007 and 2009, we
will proceed on this current topic. Thus, we would like to keep up the
discussion concerning the integration of concepts, processes, and
systems for the fields of knowledge management and e-learning.
The workshop mainly focuses on two issues: a) how can knowledge,
learning and business processes be integrated, and b) how can the
related systems be integrated to enable an efficient workflow.
Currently, even less learning environments take the context and the
environment into account. Using mobile and ambient technologies can lead
to a paradigm shift in the construction of such environments: from
static to highly contextualized knowledge experiences. Based on the
integration of these systems into social networks and social software
applications, formal and informal collaborative interactions will
further enhance this effect.
Topics of Interest
==================
We appreciate submissions from all areas contributing to the development
and application of convergent systems especially targeting the above
mentioned levels of convergence. Thereby, we encourage contributions
addressing technology-oriented as well as human-oriented approaches.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
* Convergence of processes and systems
* Implementing and establishing convergent solutions
* Using web 2.0 applications for KM and E-Learning integration
* Contextualisation (e.g., location-based services, mobile solutions,
internationalisation)
* Tools and implementations
* Social networks and social media as convergence tools
* Prototypes / Cases Studies
The workshop should lead to comprehensive insights into integrated
knowledge and learning solutions.

PAPER ONE
Effects of Website Interactivity on e-Loyalty: A Social Exchange Perspective
Wen-Jang Jih, Middle Tennessee State University, USA
Su-Fang Lee, Overseas Chinese University, Taiwan
Yuan-Cheng Tsai, Overseas Chinese University, Taiwan
This study examines the impact of major considerations of commercial website design and management, website interactivity, the important performance factor, and customer loyalty. Meaningful interactions with existing and potential customers allow e-commerce firms to enhance customer loyalty by providing satisfactory customer experience. Customer loyalty is a composite construct, yet consists of multiple dimensions that do not necessarily contribute to repeat purchase in the same manner. Guided by the concept of social exchange in social psychology, this study investigates the causal effect of website interactivity on two conceptually distinctive types of website loyalty—transactional loyalty and relational loyalty. This paper finds positive effects of website loyalty on both types of loyalty, while revealing positive effects of transactional loyalty on relational loyalty and overall loyalty. Furthermore, relational loyalty is found to contribute more to overall loyalty than transactional loyalty. E-commerce firms are advised to offer attractive incentives in a systematical manner to gradually convert more temporary transactional loyalty to more long-term relational loyalty. Finally, firms must devise a portfolio of different marketing strategies to cater to the customers located on different points on transactional loyalty.

PAPER TWO
From Virtual Organization to E-Business: Transformational Structuration
James Lee, Seattle University, USA
Bandula Jayatilaka, State University of New York at Binghamton, USA
Ben Kim, Seattle University, USA
Ted Lee, University of Memphis, USA
Pairin Katerattanakul, Western Michigan University, USA
Soongoo Hong, Dong-A University, USA
This article shows how the technical hype of 1990s has been transformed into the e-business organizations at the beginning of the 21st century. The authors took an interpretive stance in this study, grounded theory, and investigated the ontology of virtual organization by the metaphorical analysis. The metaphorical analysis adopted in this study provides the analytical power to conceptualize the social structure of virtual organization in the context of structuration theory with the process of grounded theory. As the e-business structuration indicates in this study, virtualization, the metaphor of virtual organization is interpreted as flexible domination, where the rational relationships in power distribution with other e-business characterized temporal (virtual) bond with low switching costs.

PAPER THREE
Taking a Strategic Alliance Approach to Enhance M-Commerce Development: Challenges and Strategies
Fang Zhao, American University of Sharjah, UAE
Current m-commerce business models show that m-commerce depends on complex networks of business relationships, which often comprise telecommunications service providers, mobile device makers, banking industry, Internet search engine providers, and various third-party value-adding companies. Due to the nature of m-commerce, the key to success in m-commerce lies predominantly in managing a network of alliances. This paper answers research questions, such as why do companies team up for m-commerce? What are the key challenges facing the alliances? How can companies address the challenges? What does the future hold for the study of strategic alliances including m-commerce alliances? This paper extends strategic alliance theories to the study of m-commerce alliances that are formulated in various cultural and national backgrounds. The authors examine both strategic and operational strategies for m-commerce alliances and discuss a wide range of issues in the formulation and implementation of m-commerce alliance strategy.

PAPER FOUR
The Impact of the Internet on Marketing Strategy: Revisiting Early Predictions
Kaan Varnali, Istanbul Bilgi University, Turkey
This conceptual paper revisits and reviews early milestone literature of influential authors, who discuss the impact of the Internet on major forces that shape a company’s marketing strategy to assess whether their futurist predictions and conceptual claims turned out to be true or were later falsified by empirical research or market experience. In particular, the impact of the Internet on customers, design of products/services, pricing, marketing communications, intermediaries, publics, and social/cultural environment is explored. Throughout the paper, related under-researched and unsettled areas are discussed and future research avenues are suggested.

PAPER FIVE
Coping with Manufacturers’ Dilemma in the E-Commerce Era: A Relational Model and a Strategic Framework
Xiaolin Li, Towson University, USA
From a channel conflict perspective, this paper proposes a Relational Model identifying key determinants of manufacturers’ intentions to establish an online direct sales channel (ODSC). The paper also develops a Strategic Framework as a guideline for manufacturers to formulate their Internet channel strategies. Unlike most other studies on channel conflicts that focus on channel management after the manufacturer has already established its ODSC, this study provides a comprehensive strategic analysis of channel conflicts based on a pre-ODSC context, which prevents unnecessary losses from channel conflicts before they occur.

2nd IUI Workshop on
Semantic Models for Adaptive Interactive Systems (SEMAIS 2011)
February 13, 2011, Palo Alto, CA, USA
Abstract submission deadline: November 19, 2010
http://www.semais.org
Proceedings will be published electronically (CEUR-WS)
=========================================================================
WORKSHOP GOALS
Semantic technologies and, in particular, ontologies as formal, shareable
representations of a domain of interest play an increasingly important role
also for the design, development, and execution of user interfaces and more
generally interactive systems. Semantic models can serve a number of
different purposes in this context. They can be used as application or
interface models in model-driven design, generation at design time as well
as at runtime, and integration of user interfaces. Ontologies may enhance
the visualization and interaction capabilities of user interfaces in various
ways, e.g., by providing input assistance, intelligently clustering
information, or adapting the user interface according to the user’s
context.
Especially in the latter case, ontologies can be applied for representing
the various kinds of context information for context-aware and adaptive
systems. In particular, they have promised to provide a technique for
representing external physical context factors such as location, time or
technical parameters and ‘internal’ context such as user interest
profiles or interaction context in a consistent, generalized manner. Owing
to these properties, semantic models can also contribute to bridging gaps,
e.g., between user models, context-aware interfaces and model-driven UI
generation.
There is, therefore, a considerable potential for using semantic models as a
basis for adaptive interactive systems. The range of potential adaptations
is wide comprising, for example, context- and user-dependent
recommendations, interactive assistance when performing application-specific
tasks, adaptation of the application functionality, or adaptive retrieval
support. Furthermore, a variety of reasoning and machine learning techniques
exist, that can be employed to achieve adaptive system behavior.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
Following up the succesfull 1st SEMAIS workshop at IUI 2010, the workshop
will address, among others, the following research issues:
- Improve UI quality by using semantic models.
- Representing user models, systems and their behavior, domain knowledge and
interaction context by means of semantic models.
- Cognitively or neurally founded reasoning techniques such as activation
spreading for semantic user models.
- Context-aware interaction based on semantic models.
- Adaptation strategies and techniques based on semantic models for e.g.
recommender systems, adaptive retrieval, collaboration support systems and
others.
- Generating explanations or visualizations to increase user confidence and
support traceability.
- Scalability and performance of semantic model-based interactive systems.
- Semantic model-driven UI development.
- Generation and evolution of semantic models for interactive systems.
- Suitability of highly formal vs. light-weight semantic representations.
- Consuming linked data in user interfaces.
- Bringing ontologies together with current UI modeling languages, such as
UsiXML.
- Evaluation approaches for adaptive interaction.
SUBMISSIONS AND PARTICIPATION
Prospective participants should submit a 2-page position paper describing
their interests and work in the topic of the workshop. First comments on
(one or more of) the following topics we intend to discuss at the workshop
are also welcome, but not mandatory (additional questions are also welcome):
- What are the major challenges (technical, organizational etc.) for
developing or generating user interfaces based on semantic models?
- For which kinds of systems or applications are semantic models
particularly useful?
- In which ways will semantic technologies affect user interfaces in the
future?
- What kinds of context-adaptivity do you see as particularly promising?
- How can adaptive model driven user interfaces be evaluated?
We will select participants based on the abstract's quality and the
diversity of their backgrounds, aiming at an interdisciplinary group. The
selected presenters will be asked to provide an extended 5-page position
paper one month before the workshop. These position papers will be
circulated in advance for participants to get an understanding of the mutual
views and to provide a starting point for the discussion.
Accepted submissions will be published electronically via CEUR-WS. Please
submit your contributions in PDF format to submissions(a)semais.org.
