(GI) Leipzig, 27.9. bis 2.10.2010 *********************************************************** *** Inhalt *** Ein erfolgreiches Angebot von Dienstleistungen setzt eine hoch produktive Leistungserstellung voraus. Im Allgemeinen steht Produktivität für die Ergiebigkeit der betrieblichen Faktorkombination. Die konstitutiven Merkmale von Dienstleistungen, wie insbesondere die Immaterialität, das Uno-actu-Prinzip, die Nichtlagerfähigkeit und Integrativität, erfordern ein spezielles Vorgehen bei der Messung und Verbesserung der Dienstleistungsproduktivität. Beispielsweise ist eine reine Normierung der Input- und Output-Faktoren, z.B. in Geldeinheiten, nicht möglich, da Faktoren, wie die wahrgenommene Qualität und Zufriedenheit des Kunden, nur schwer monetarisierbar sind. Darüber hinaus ist der Erstellungsprozess einer Dienstleistung nicht in sich geschlossen, sondern es handelt sich um ein offenes System, in dem Kunden als sog. Co-Creator of Value an der Leistungserstellung beteiligt sind. Die Gestaltung von Informationssystemen muss diese Herausforderungen bei der Steigerung der Dienstleistungsproduktivität adäquat adressieren. Mit dem Workshop soll Praktikern und Wissenschaftlern ein Forum bereitet werden, in dem insbesondere die folgenden Themen und ihre Zusammenhänge diskutiert werden: * Business-Engineering-Ansätze für die Verbesserung von Dienstleistungsprozessen (insbesondere Modellierungsmethoden und -sprachen) * Softwarewerkzeuge für das Business Engineering im Dienstleistungsbereich * Gestaltung von Informations- und Kommunikationsstrukturen zur Produktivitätsmessung und -bewertung * Messung und Bewertung der Produktivität am einzelnen Dienstleistungsarbeitsplatz (insbesondere mittels intelligenter Sensorik) * Messung und Bewertung der Produktivität ganzer Dienstleistungsprozesse (insbesondere mittels Workflow-Management-Systemen) * Einsatz von Business Intelligence zur Analyse und zum Vergleich der Dienstleistungsproduktivität * Fachkonzeptionelle Referenzmodelle für Kennzahlensysteme zur Messung der Dienstleistungsproduktivität * Fachkonzeptionelle Referenzmodelle für die Gestaltung von Dienstleistungen hoher Produktivität * Verfahren und Anwendungssysteme zur produktivitätserhöhenden Entscheidungsunterstützung in Dienstleistungsprozessen (z.B. Ressourcenallokation, Reihenfolgeoptimierung und weitere Probleme des Operations Managements) * Steigerung der Produktivität von Dienstleistungen mittels operativer Informationssysteme (z.B. intelligente, mobile Assistenzsysteme) *** Workshopkonzept *** Der Workshop verfolgt das Ziel, eine Forschungslandkarte zu Projekten, die sich mit der Steigerung der Dienstleistungsproduktivität beschäftigen, zu initiieren und die Projektbeteiligten miteinander bekannt zu machen, um die Basis für zukünftige Zusammenarbeiten zu legen bzw. weiter zu festigen. Deshalb wird der Workshop drei inhaltliche Teile umfassen: * Im ersten Teil wird das Konzept und die Intention der Forschungslandkarte vorgestellt. Dabei werden von den Betreibern der "Forschungslandkarte der hybriden Wertschöpfung" (http://www.forschungslandkarte-hybridewertschoepfung.de) gewonnene Erfahrungen zur Diskussion gestellt. Dieser Auftakt bietet die Gewähr, dass parallel zum weiteren Verlauf des Workshops Inhalte der Forschungslandkarte identifiziert werden können. * Der zweite Teil stellt den zeitlich umfangreichsten dar. Hier werden von Autoren aus Wissenschaft und Praxis Beiträge referiert, die zuvor eingereicht und in einem doppelt-blinden Begutachtungsprozess für den Workshop vom Programmkomitee ausgewählt wurden. Die Beiträge werden jeweils rund 20 Minuten vorgestellt und 10 Minuten diskutiert. Die schriftlichen Beiträge werden im Tagungsband der Informatik 2010 veröffentlicht. * Im dritten Teil des Workshops werden - unterstützt durch das Konzept der Forschungslandkarte - zukünftige Forschungsbedarfe erhoben und mögliche projektübergreifende synergetische Zusammenarbeiten identifiziert. PAPER ONE Contrasting IT Capability and Organizational Types: Implications for Firm Performance Terry Byrd (Auburn University, USA) Linda Byrd (Auburn University, USA) The Resource-Based View (RBV) has become one of the most popular ways to examine the impact of IT on firm performance. An increasing number of researchers are using the theoretical underpinning of the RBV to ground their research in investigating this relationship. This paper follows in this tradition by developing multidimensional measures for two dimensions of IT capability, inside-out IT capability and spanning IT capability. In this regard, the authors relate these dimensions to firm performance as profit ratios and cost ratios. Inside-out capability is the IT resources deployed from inside the firm in response to market requirements and opportunities. However, spanning IT capability involves both internal and external analysis and is needed to integrate the firm's inside-out and outside-in IT competences. This study also makes an exploratory comparative assessment of the relative impact of inside-out IT capability and spanning IT capability, while analyzing the differen! ces on the impact of IT capability in diverse types of organizations. Research into knowledge management (KM) in healthcare organizations is a needed research focus, given that differences exist in knowledge and knowledge management processes between healthcare and other organization types. The research presented in this paper examines the effectiveness of communities of practice as a knowledge sharing tool in a large and geographically disparate healthcare organization. Findings suggest that job role affects community members' perceptions of the benefit and impact of communities of practice as well as their participation in such communities. Self-determination theory and structuration theory are used as theoretical lenses to understand the adoption and use of an ICT system. The data were collected using qualitative semi-structured interviews with eleven system users and analyzed using a content analysis approach. The research shows that the self-determined adoption of ICT systems has benefits like user motivation and satisfaction. Problems in such adoption relate to users' experiencing uncertainty regarding the organizational legitimization of the system and support for its use. Employees and organizations are likely to benefit from self-determined adoption because it promotes employees' motivation and initiative-taking. However, a shared understanding of self-determination and organizational support for it are required. Wang (University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, USA) Pratim Datta (Kent State University, USA) Although much research in the IS field has examined IS adoption, less is known about post-adoption behavior among IS users, especially when competing alternatives are available. Incorporating commitment theory from social psychology and management science literature, this paper proposes an IS continuance model that explains why some IS technologies enjoy continued use after adoption and others are often relegated to the basement as shelfware. This paper uses a technology commitment perspective to unravel why adopted technologies experience mixed success. Specifically, the authors argue that IS continuance may be best understood by investigating user commitment toward specific technologies. Three components of technology commitment, that is, affective commitment, calculative commitment, and normative commitment, are used to formulate a research model. The model is empirically tested in the context of instant messaging software. Results show a strong support for the model and ! explicate commitment differentials among users across different brands of instant messaging software. The study ends with a discussion of the results and their implications for research and practice. End-user training may help manage this challenge by getting the users familiar with the system and its functionality. However, end-user training is not easy, nor self-evident, as shown in this paper. This is problematic, particularly when organization-wide standards for how to provide training are missing or when the group of end-users is two-layered, that is, both the customers and the staff must be trained. In this paper, the authors describe a qualitative case study of how the end-user training on an e-Bank was organized, and how the training was delivered to its elderly customers. The training model by Simonsen and Sein (2004) is utilized and extended to cover the systems development cycle. The authors argue that an approach that integrates the end-user training with the systems development improves organizational implementation! . As a result, this paper makes practical suggestions about the issues related to organizing end-user training. Konferenz zu Professionelles Wissensmanagement vom 21. bis 23. Februar 2011 in Innsbruck aufmerksam machen: Knowing 2.0 - Leitet Enterprise 2.0 eine neue Generation des Wissensmanagements ein? Bereits seit über drei Jahren wird das Thema Enterprise 2.0 in Weblogs und Konferenzen intensiv diskutiert. Unter dem Begriff wird die Nutzung von Web 2.0-Technologien bzw. Social Software-Anwendungen (z. B. Wikis, Blogs, Social Networks oder Microblogging) für den unternehmensinternen Einsatz verstanden. Die besonderen Eigenschaften des Enterprise 2.0 werden zusätzlich durch organisationsgestaltende Aspekte wie flache Hierarchien, Selbstbestimmung von Arbeitsgruppen und Dezentralität der Entscheidung geprägt. Mehrere Autoren, z. B. Snowden (2002), Schütt (2003) und North (2005) skizzierten nach den technologiegetriebenen und humanorientierten Generationen schon früh eine dritte Generation des Wissensmanagements. Snowden fordert u. a. ein neues Wissensverständnis in Organisationen, Wissen eher als Fluss statt als managebares Objekt zu betrachten und sich auf die Gestaltung von Kontexten, Beziehungen und Wissenskultur durch ein wissensorientiertes Management zu konzentrieren. Insofern wird auch im Bereich des Wissensmanagements der Begriff Enterprise 2.0 reflektiert. Sowohl die technologischen als auch die organisationskulturellen Aspekte des Enterprise 2.0-Konzepts (Koch and Richter, 2007, McAfee, 2008, Schönefeld, 2009) bieten zahlreiche Potenziale für das Wissensmanagement. Fokus des Workshops ist die Frage, ob die Existenz des Enterprise 2.0 eine neue Generation des Wissensmanagements einleitet. Was ist der Unterschied zwischen dem Enterprise 2.0 und einer wissensorientierten bzw. Lernende Organisation als Ziel des Wissensmanagements? Welche Einflüsse haben die neuen organisatorischen und technischen Merkmale des Enterprise 2.0 auf konkrete Interventionen, Methoden und Instrumente des Wissensmanagements? Neben den Potentialen des Enterprise 2.0-Konzepts für das Wissensmanagement sollen vor allen Dingen seine Grenzen und daraus resultierende neue Herausforderungen für das organisationale Wissens-management auf der Basis praktischer Erfahrungen möglichst interdisziplinär diskutiert werden. Nicht nur die neuen technologischen Ansätze, sondern insbesondere auch die in einem Enterprise 2.0 vorzufindende "Managementphilosophie 2.0" sind zu berücksichtigen. Damit wird dem Motto der Konferenz "Wissen in Aktion" Rechnung getragen. Leitfragen des Workshops: Einzureichende Beiträge sollen eine mehrdimensionale und reflektierte Sicht auf das Wissensmanagement im Enterprise 2.0 aufweisen. Gewünscht sind konkrete Praxiserfahrungen mit Enterprise 2.0-Technologien und -prinzipien in Form von Fallstudien (qualititativ oder quantitativ-empirisch), aus denen Anforderungen oder Rahmenbedingungen an das (neue?) Wissensmanagement abgeleitet werden. Beiträge sollten eine oder mehrere der folgenden Fragestellungen behandeln: - In welchem Verhältnis stehen die Diskussionen zu Wissensmanagement und Enterprise 2.0 zueinander? - Welche grundlegenden Verständnisunterschiede (Menschenbild, Ziele, Rolle von Technologie) unterscheiden die Diskussionen rund um Wissensmanagement und Enterprise 2.0? - Wie lässt sich Wissensmanagement langfristig im Enterprise 2.0 verankern? - Wie wirken sich die geforderten organisatorischen Prinzipien (z.B. Mitarbeiterpartizipation, Selbstverantwortlichkeit, Dezentralität) der Enterprise 2.0-Diskussion auf das Wissensmanagement aus? Welche Erkenntnisse lassen sich daraus ableiten? Ändert sich dadurch das Wissensmanagement im Enterprise 2.0? - Gibt es negative Einflüsse auf das Wissensmanagement in Folge einer Einführung von Enterprise 2.0-Maßnahmen? The management and sharing of information and knowledge is one of a small set of core competencies that has such a direct and profound effect on reaching and sustaining competitive advantage. We live in the "Information Society", where the amount of information and knowledge a firm possesses equals its ability to act on time, dealing thereby with constant changes in the external context in it is embedded. Hence, information and knowledge management bring various issues to the fore, such as how to retrieve the most relevant and trustworthy sources; how to use these sources so as to succeed in the achievement of a firm's strategic plans; how to use them for making decisions, providing individuals with the appropriate modelling techniques (e.g. cognitive mapping) and Information Systems (IS) (e.g. expert and knowledge management systems) for this; and how to use them for personal knowledge enhancement and improvement of one's role as "knowledge worker" in today's information so! ciety (Edwards et al., 2009). The achievement of a firm's strategic plan and competitive advantage is dependent on its ability to respond to challenges occurring in both internal and external environment. In this vein, Operational Research (OR) comes to the fore, inter alia, as an agent and means of securing that 'intervention and change' - which is needed for the achievement of a firm's objectives- is effective and successful (Klein et al., 2007). Successful OR practice involves the successful management of information andknowledge through the design and implementation of various models and IS (e.g. knowledge management and expert systems, artificial intelligence). These models and systems enable, for instance, effective decision making; they bring changes in the knowledge of individuals and groups associated with the change; and they help them to understand highly complex change situations, as well as the interactions between multiple stakeholders with often conflicting and competing views, who discuss, negotiate changes, and use modelling techniques to deal with the complexities of these different interpretations (Edwards et al., 2009). Thus, change and intervention, improved and effective decision making, the delivery of new products and services and the improvement of already existing ones are dependent on OR practice through the effective information and knowledge management, and technological capabilities as suggested by the use of IS and models. However, this poses challenges related to numerous factors (e.g. contextual, cultural) that need to be taken into consideration when designing, implementing, and managing effective models and IS. Research has shown the influence of the aforementioned factors, but, clearly, further research is needed into these topics. The motivation for this Special Issue stems from the unexplored issues regarding the development and implementation of OR based models, IS, and networking in managing information and knowledge in today's complex contexts. The focus is to stimulate discussion and debate on the processes and models for the management of information and knowledge. Submitted papers must be practical/real world cases which emphasise the role of IS (e.g. expert and knowledge management systems), and OR model development and implementation as mechanisms to e.g. store, retrieve, coordinate, share, and control the exchange of knowledge and information, and suggest managerial lessons to be learnt. Potential topics, but not restricted to, include: -IS implementation issues (Social, cultural, contextual, power, politics) for information and knowledge management; -The creation of an enterprise knowledge-driven culture and learning organisation and delivery of value based on customer knowledge; -The emergence of networks and social networking for information and knowledge exchange and sharing; -The role of trust, solidarity, and power in knowledge sharing and exchange; -Knowledge management practices and IS enabled innovation, core competencies and intellectual capital valuation; -The role of knowledge management systems with the form of artificial intelligence, expert and knowledge management systems in avoiding or mitigating risk during strategic planning and problem solving. -The role of knowledge management in modelling decision support and facilitating group decisions by forms of knowledge modelling (e.g. causal maps or values' hierarchies), so as to bring to light knowledge/opinions exchanged in the group, ensure the underlying issues are analysed rigorously, and promote learning (Edwards et al., 2009; Montibeller et al., 2006). -The development and implementation of specific OR- based models and algorithms that underpin many systems and play important role in information and knowledge management. The workshop will focus on Global Sourcing with a specific interest in practices that improve firm*s performance and those that affect communities and societies. This workshop aims to bring together viewpoints from various disciplines, including IB, Strategy, OM, OB and IS on global sourcing of IT, Business and Knowledge Processes and Innovation. We invite research articles, works in progress and *focus on practice* papers that investigate topics relating to global outsourcing and offshoring. In particular, the workshop will endeavour to present the views of managers from both client and vendor perspectives. Some of the specific themes that are of interest in this workshop are: * Sourcing models (e.g. offshoring, offshore-outsourcing, near-shoring, cloud computing and SaaS) * Sourcing decision making * Sourcing settings (multi-sourcing, bundle services, etc.) * Supplier capabilities * Client capabilities * Outsourcing life cycle * Captive centres * Emerging topics and concepts in sourcing We are interested in papers that are both conceptual and empirically-based. Please note that a small conference venue has been reserved with guaranteed attendance restricted to those having papers accepted for presentation.
